  1. Ok, this is kind of a crazy theory of mine, without much evidence currently, but here we go. We all know that both aluminum and silver have strange effects. Aluminum is able to negate any form of investiture, and silver is able to do something similar. I believe that silvers actual abilities tie more to the crossing between the three realms. (On threnody where the cognitive shades are held back by silver, in tress where the spores are unable to draw power from the spiritual realm when near silver, etc.) So while aluminum blocks investature, silver functions as a barrier between realms. Aluminum has one other ability though, It can be burned by mistborns/mistings. And now we get the the point. Every shard has a god metal, so I wonder if adonalsium THEMSELVES had a god metal. We know that the metals can still be around after a vessels death, we see this in TLM when both ruin and preservations metals are once again created. So, I believe that silver is adonalsium's god metal. This is a lot of guesses and extrapolation, but think about it. If adonalsium truly is, like, GOD, then it makes sense that they would have created the three realms, and as the sole deity, they would have been spread over the entire cosmere, maybe spreading and diluting their god metal. Its abilities are not tied to all the other metals, including aluminum, as it cannot be burned and has no attachment to any other from of investature, only the fabric of the realms themselves. Now back to Aluminum. It is suggested throughout many books that Hoid was with the 16 when Adonalsium was killed, to the point where this is just a fact. If Hoid helped to kill Adonalsium, then gave up his share of the power, like I believe, then there is another god metal. I think hoid dispersed the actual "17th shard" over the cosmere, and the 17th god metal was similairly dispersed, which is ALUMINUM. sorry if i was rambling, I am excited to see your guys' ideas
  2. I noticed this quote on my third read of TWoK and found it of some note. This sort of touches on the fourth wall which is something that basically never happens in cosmere works-but it seems to happen here. It technically could be something else, and I'd love to hear opinions. What does this mean...? Oh, also this which has a small chance of being a fourth wall break as well (But easily could actually mean what it means when taken at face value.) Hoid just seems like the type of person to sneak in a double meaning of that sort. I don't usually suspect this kind of quote, but this in particular feels like something.
  3. So obviously this is like 80% speculation, but hey that's what makes it fun right? We generally assume that reforming Adonalsium is possible, partly because its been mentioned by Hoid, who is by far the most reliable source of information (at least when he gives it) on the past and the deepest workings of the cosmere. However, even Hoid seems uncertain as to the possibility, as shown in his conversation with Daliner. Personally I think he have yet to see any convincing evidence that the possibility exists. Starting with the most obvious, Sazed is the only example of a combination of the 16 original shards held by one person that we have seen, and I think its fair to say that as an experiment in combining the shards, he has been less than successful. Not only is he incapable of really taking action, but he is actively struggling to hold the two together. I have to assume that no successfully recreated version of Ado would include the vessel working that hard to keep the whole together, and if it did it sounds profoundly dangerous. However, even putting those things aside, describing Harmony as a combination of the two shards of Preservation and Ruin at all is generous. We (and everyone else) have always understood Harmony as two distinct shards that happen to be held by the same vessel. The same is true of Ettemetal, which is immensely unstable and, despite god metals acting like elements, can be split into Atium and Lerasium as if it was an alloy. I actually have made a post before about whether this is a state inherent in holding 2 shards or not, here: Also to consider, is the ongoing question of whether there was a vessel for Adonalsium or whether it was literally just sentient magic goop. If it would need a vessel to recombine Ado then I think there is a significant question of who could serve. Its a question for another thread, but long story short, single shards need people with specific traits that align with the shards to be effective bearers, and the requirements seem to have been even more demanding for Sazed taking up 2 shards. So, would Adonalsium have requirments that are just so absurd that only the perfect person could ever hope to do it, or would the intent of all sixteen shards be a wash and just any old guy could pick up the divine power of all creation? Alternativly, if Adonalsium does not need a vessel then that opens up a whole other can of worms. Vasher says something along the lines of "if you leave magic alone for long enough it becomes sentient" (I dont have the book on hand sorry for the vague quote) in RoW while talking with Kaladin. So, I assume the theory would be that you just kinda drop all 16 shards in one place and wait, but that also leaves a lot of problems. The Dominion and Devotion shards on Sel were dropped after odium did what he does, and now they are kinda just chilling in the cognitive realm, apparently making it super dangerous to go there. This raises the question of whether you need to leave the 16 shards alone in a specific way to get adonalsium and not just an apocalypse, or maybe D&D are somehow unable to merge together as Ado would, but either way surely they should have become sentient by now, something we have had no indication of. Also, some of the shards have intent which is directly opposed to reforming Adonalsium, which surely would be an obstacle. Most importantly, Autonomy is deeply opposed to mixing with other shards. I have to assume it is still possible to mix autonomy with other shards but it also must be much more difficult, similar to how Bavadium is repelled by Ettemetal. Would the presence of all the pieces of Adonalsium make a difference there? Odium also does not want to be mixed, but if im honest I have always been unclear on how much of that was Odium and how much of that was Rayse. Finally, the way that Adonalsium was shattered probably matters. If it was just that enough force was applied to separate the shards (however the heck that would even be possible) that sure, but I cant imagine it was that simple, and it seems more likely that it involved a fundamental changing of the way that investiture exists to acomplish Long story short, it seems like one of two things needs to be true for Adonalsium to even be a possibility on the table. 1) The boring answer, that simply the fact that all 16 shards are there and not some combination of a few changes the way they interact with each other, simply bypassing all these problems, or 2) The way in which we understand both how shards combine together, and how investiture acts when it is left alone are deeply flawed. As a final note, at the end of the day I do think Adonalsium being reformed is possible, after all it would kinda be narativly unsatisfying if it was just "sorry about the years of speculation yall, it was never even an option," I just don't see how its possible given our current information

  5. I was wondering if there was the possibility of more Cosmere-aware groups made up of people from different worlds like the Ghostbloods and the Seventeenth Shard that haven't appeared in Canon yet but will? Like a Cosmere interplanetary smuggling group or Cosmere nomads? What role do you imagine they could play in the overall story of the Cosmere?
  6. Hiya! its me Freya So I have been wondering about how the metals (non-godmetals) interact with investure, so I figured we could maybe try and use this thread to theorize a bit and gather up everything we know, because I'm sure there is stuff that I have missed. as far as I'm aware there are 17 metals that interact with ivestiture in the cosmere. Steel Iron Pewter Tin Zinc Brass Copper Bronze Duralumin Aluminum Nicrosil Chromium Gold Electrum Cadmium Bendalloy Silver (I'm gonna ignore this one because it seems to be it's own separate thing from the other metals) The First 16 of these metals are established parts of all 3 metallic arts (allomancy, hemolurgy, and furochemy) I'm gonna try and avoid delving into these because they are their own magic system, and less about the metals themselves and how they interact with the investiture. The 16 Allomantic metals are also established parts in making specific types of fabrials, based on what spren they interact with within a gemstone. We know that alluminum interferes with investiture on the pages in mistborn, warbreaker, stormlight, and Emperors soul. that covers a pretty huge swath of types of investure that we know that this metal interacts with. based on that, you can easily assume that it will probably interact with all other types of investiture, and that the other allomantic metals will interact investiture as well. To put the cherry on top here, I believe we have a couple Words of Brandon confirming this. So working off of this we can assume that all the first 16 metals, (The allomantic metals) interact with all types of investiture in varying ways. but this is doesn't exactly help us understand what the metals actually do. It's like looking to see if the generator is on in a building, but never checking what it is powering. the information is good to know but not very useful on its own. so we need to list everything we know for sure that a metal does to investiture, either via WOB or on the page confirmation. I'm going to write a small group of stuff I remember and that I think is important. I would love to create a list with all confirmed effects metal has on investiture, with each metal. A: Rhythm of War Epigraphs (https://coppermind.net/wiki/Rhythm_of_War/Epigraphs) The important epigraphs here are 6 through 11, giving us a fairly in-your-face piece of the puzzle. Using these I'm gonna make a couple of assumptions. The categories used in the allomantic table (Push, Pull, and possibly the 4 larger categories, Physical, Mental, Enhancement, and Temporal) are still important to how metals interact. while I would be hesitant to say that the 4 larger categories are going to be the same, the metals within them clearly are. Zinc and brass, along with Pewter and Tin, still have paired effects. from what is said we can easily assume that Iron and Steel are still paired as well, although it hasn't been discovered yet. From these tidbits, we can assume that all the metals that have paired effects in the allomantic table will have paired effects on how they interact with investiture. The effect the metals have, at least on some types of investiture, is a passive effect. the metals in the fabrials don't need to be invested or capital C connected to anything to have an effect, they simply change the investiture that is within close proximity to them, in this case, being pressed up against a gemstone filled with the said investiture. the metal simply has to exist, and it will have an effect. I think this is an important thing to note. The metals will have similar effects across types of investiture, most of the time. the attractor fabrial, made using iron, is incredibly similar to the effect iron has in allomancy. The theorized repelling fabrial, assuming it does use steel, would also have an incredibly similar effect to how it functions in allomancy. Brass and zinc strengthen and weaken a sprens presence, very similar to strengthening or weakening the presence of a specific emotion. B: Aluminum Aluminum is seen across the cosmere as a sort of catch-all block to investiture at this point. it's used in fabrials to direct investiture signals by blocking certain connections, and is completely resistant to forgery. aluminum is completely immune to allomantic manipulation from steel and iron, and burning it as an allomancer is essentially the same as pressing ctrl + alt + delete on all the metals, or possibly all investiture, you had inside you (is there a WOB on if burning aluminum would get rid of stormlight or biochromatic breath in your body?). it is possible that aluminum, if thick enough, could block a shardblade. aluminum cannot be lashed or soulcast. nightblood, possibly the most invested object in all of the cosmere, is almost completely contained with just and aluminum sheath, only able to send his thoughts out to those around him. this is another huge point in favor of the third assumption I made with the Rhythm of War Epigraphs. Tress of The Emerald Sea Spoilers (not major to plotline but still spoilers) That's all I remember without too much digging, however I am certain there is more. Is there any big things that I missed? I have a couple of theories on how certain things like how making an aon out of a certain metal might change how it works, but I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on this stuff.
  7. MISTBORN SPOILER Hey everyone, I was wondering about Sazed's (allignment?). Im sure it's a common topic if Sazed is really Harmony or Discord. We know Lyras used up / killed / lost part of Preservation when he created the humans of Scadrial / broke the contract so technically Preservation is lesser than Ruin? However, both powers have been described as basically infinite so I am not sure this even matters. I was questioning if we have any evidence or solid ideas if he ever sneakily changed some scripts or other stuff, like Ati used to do. We know he allowed spook's book to be "known" but that might be a completely rewritten version. I am just sus of Sazed because both Kel and Hoid avoid him like the plague. [ ]
  8. Question for you all from a friend: Certain excerpts (quoted below) indicate that Preservation sacrificed a part of his consciousness to give humans on Scadrial sentience. Given that sentient humans existed on Yolen and currently exist on other Comere planets, what do we think this means for the story of human arrival on Scadrial--did something go terribly wrong? Or is it possible I am misinterpreting? I don't think it can be a throwaway line, because the sacrifice is what allowed Ruin to overcome Preservation near the end of era 1. I am happy to provide more excerpts if they could be helpful. This question comes from a friend who has read only era 1; if possible, try to refrain from era 2 spoilers--thanks so much!
  9. On today's episode, we are finally finishing up WoBs, except for the Tress stream from yesterday. We talk about Navani's past, Jasnah and Hoid, storms blowing leeward, intense ship names discussion (I didn't expect this today!), and cosmere hell. This episode we have Eric (Chaos), Evgeni (Argent), Marvin (Paleo), and Kadie (Aon Ene)! 10. alr i have recently stumbled apon this and have decided that it is now the best way to rate any superpower or magic system. it goes like this: Can the power/magic system allow me to win a fight from a random guy with a shotgun? if not it fails. bad power not useful for combat. if yes, how many random guys would it be able to let me take on? post your assesments :b Edit: sorry, i wasn't aware that the word I was using was a slur spoiler for context here
  11. Hoid. The man, the myth, the guy who will insult you so you punch out his teeth so he can spy on someone. We know this man has connections to the original shards. I saw a theory that he is trying to rebuild andolism and is collecting the power of the Invested arts so he can Connect to the shard in order to hold it. So is he trying to connect to all the shards and then wait for a large event to arise where he then takes them all up to become Adolism. I also want to point out a phrase Hoid says in ToTES "I am guilty of saying that phrase to someone, sixteen people actually" How do you quote something in a dropdown? I fear I misquoted. Also, Rysn(?) (Odium) has extreme feelings of hate toward Hoid but this could just be the influence of the shard itself. Please help my thoughts are tangled up and I'm really curios about this.
  12. Twin born ability is plus 4 spikes of your choice. Your opponent is a 4th ideal knight radiant What will you choose.
  13. So ima just dig right in with my theory and yall can give your thoughts. I might be grasping a little or clinging onto vague ideas but I like the theory so I might as well post it. Base allomancy comes in a set of 16 with subsets; Push, Pull, Internal, External, physical, mental, temporal, and enhancement. pretty basic allomancy knowledge, right? but we also know that every god metal can make their OWN allomantic sets, with atium alloys as our proof. the 11th metal (gold and atium) and the atium mistborn burn (atium and electrum). now usually there wouldn't be much for me to build off after that. each god metal is another set of 16, how could we possibly figure out what each power will do without knowing something like the subject of the powers, like physical in the base set. except we DO know one of the subsets for ruin's set of allomancy. and its the same as the base set. in fact the powers are nearly identical, except for one key difference. they have switched from internal, to external. gold is an internal metal, so is electrum. but their atium alloy counterparts aren't. the 11th metal lets you see other peoples past(or potential future still not sure) selves. but gold lets you see your own past/potential futrue self. nearly identical powers, except for the fact that the subset has flipped. so here is the theory. are ALL the allomantic powers in ruin's allomancy, simply the same power with a subset flipped? how would that translate into powers like tin, or pewter? or duralumin? we already have a power that essentialy works the same as duralumin, except it is focused externally. its already a thing in base allomancy. is it simply a fluke? a coincidence? or, does this perhaps work like the power overlaps in the knight's Radiant orders? they share power types across certain orders. are we maybe just seeing something similar to that? do ruin and preservation simply share an allomantic subset, changed slightly to fit them? or is it even less than that, just sharing these two powers, used in separate ways, because i cannot fathom how you can use time bubbles internally. or is it something else yet again? does ruin have external powers, and then a different subset, that isnt internal at all? Sorry, I know thats a lot more question than theory, but Its been scratching in my head for a while.

  16. As the title says, I am planning a short story set on Monody, first planet in the Threnodite system. Is this something you guys would want to see posted, or should I keep it to myself? Also I am not sure about Dragonsteel's stance on unapproved derivative works, does anyone know if they would have a problem with me posting a story set in their IP? I've got some pretty decent brainstorming done and I think I came up with very interesting ideas. I wanted to hear your opinions on this before I started though.

Here's a lil' closeup for your viewing pleasure =) more on my website!
  18. Hello I just wanted a place to collect my Sanderson sketches.
  19. Lets face it. Setting up a tabletop RPG takes a long time. You need to write out a character, build a campaign, and get people interested. And, if you're playing with new people, you basically have to go through all that twice because you need to explain everything to them first, and then help them out with everything else. Not that I don't love RPG games. They're probably one of my favorite kinds of games in the world. However, it's just so much easier to throw a board on the table, deal out some cards, and get playing; not to mention that you only have to explain everything once before somebody gets it. So is anyone interested on making some Cosmere games? How does a Stormlight Archive board game sound? A Mistborn trading card game? We don't have to stick with the cosmere: we could try and make a battle-royal style Reckoners game, or an X-Wing style Skyward game. I think that the possiblities are endless. So, that being said, who's in?
  20. A few days ago, I was looking at Cosmere memes when I found this: I shared the image with my friend and we started coming up with a bunch of other roles for characters not mentioned, and then did the same thing but for high school. What we came up with: Dalinar: The ex-army PE teacher who everybody is scared of. The school forced him to teach history as well, and now it's growing on him, especially teaching the mongol empire thing. Other teachers are scared of him, but he goes to all of the staff meetings. Practically adopted Kaladin. "Give me twenty push-ups! Then do your homework!" Sorta vibes. Kaladin: That one senior who is super good at BioMed and PE and is Dalinar's favorite student. The councilor is super worried for him but he never goes to actually see the councilor. Gets in fights occasionally to protect the person being bullied. Bridge four is his friend group, and all of the popular kids are scared of him and whenever the suicide PSA comes around everybody tries not to make eye contact with him. Bridge Four: The basketball team: not as popular as the football team, but still has that camaraderie. Syl: Kaladin's younger elementary school age sister who he brings to all the school events and everyone knows and adores. Adolin: The most popular football jock, but is super nice to everyone. Everyone is shocked when he starts hanging out with Kaladin, who is decidedly not popular. Every girl is drooling over him in the halls. Gets good grades cause Dalinar forces him to and acts out in Dalinar's class cause he has that same period with Shallan and wants to impress her. Also amazing in PE and takes a fashion design class. Shallan: Moved schools halfway through the year. Adolin instantly took a liking to her, so she became one of the popular group. Kaladin initially doesn't like her or any popular person because popular kids bullied his little brother Tien, but he grows to like her and Adolin. She is taking two art classes and it the go-to person whenever anyone is making a poster. Every-so-often she hangs out with the kids who eat lunch under the stairs who everyone thinks are probably drug dealers. Lift: Lift is that one freshman who seems like she still should be in middle school. Her favorite class is Home Ec, especially on the days where they make food. Her teachers like her, but she doesn't have the best grades. Her BFF is that one quiet kid who nobody notices who gets all As. Lift always takes extra in the lunch line and eats lunch in the biology section of the library, and because Kaladin occasionally stays in the library to study, he'll just be eating his lunch and checking out a book on anatomy and he will just hear a crunching noise from Lift sitting on a bookshelf and eating 3 day old nachos. Navani: The super intimidating PTA mom who gets everything done and is singlehandedly responsible for keeping the school going. Drags all the vapers in the bathrooms out by their ears. Szeth: The weird, quiet kid, who everybody is kinda worried about, but Dalinar has taken under his wing and tutors during lunch. Nightblood: Szeth's weird little sibling who shows up during baseball and soccer games because Vivenna used to do soccer and Vasher likes watching baseball. Vivenna: The senior who turned emo but everyone thought she would be valedictorian when she was a sophomore/junior. Siri: The freshman who secretly wears bright, colorful, and fashionable clothes but hides them in her gym locker because she has to wear drab clothes at home. Lightsong: The class clown, who is the economics teacher (Llarimir)'s worst nightmare. Elend: A junior, and is the biggest book nerd who hosts DND club and chess club and book club and debate club and philosophy club. His dad is known for donating to the school. He's not exactly popular, but everyone likes him because he's rich. He was elected student body president for next year. Vin: The quiet, introverted sophomore who everyone is at least a bit concerned about. But, whenever there's a school dance, she goes all out. To everyone's surprise, she and Elend are dating. That's all we came up with, but I'd love to hear all your ideas for other characters in the Cosmere (or even in any of Sanderson's other works), or alternate ideas for already listed characters!

She grew brighter, and awareness of her blossomed in his mind. They were not whole, either one, without the other. Ah, that's one of my favorite lines in Rhythm of War! The fourth book has a lot of cool moments with Kaladin and Syl which I really love. This art piece is focused on holding hand, Syl's head on Kaladin shoulder, Urithiru (well, sort of) in the background, and a bit of Roshar flora on the right. And I still love experimenting with the dresses of my favorite girl :3
  22. Hey everyone! As the title says, I have a music project called The Lost Radiants which makes music inspired by the Cosmere. In 2023, I decided to do my own Year of Sanderson by writing and releasing an original Cosmere song each month of the year. My January song, "Seven Swords", released today on all streaming platforms! This project is only a couple of months old, but was originally conceived after I wrote a song called "Bridge Four" back in 2017 while anxiously awaiting the publication of Oathbringer. You can also listen to that song on Spotify, Apple Music, etc! Outside of my original music, I've also gotten in the habit of releasing Cosmere "parody" covers on my Instagram and TikTok. So far, these include a reimagined version of "Teenage Dirtbag" by Wheatus called "Broken Bridgeboy" and a version of "Wonderwall" by Oasis called "Stormwall". In the next week or so, I'll also be releasing a version of Olivia Rodrigo's "Traitor" about Moash. Here's a link to my Spotify page with Seven Swords: https://open.spotify.com/artist/27E7LH6I6rJH8I7y2rpB6T?si=m-1XYLk-TeyTWV9yCIjm_g My Instagram where you can find my cover songs: https://www.instagram.com/thelostradiants/
  23. (New to the cosmere here). When determining the terms of the contest of champions, Odium says Hoid (Cephandrius) could’ve been a god but chose otherwise. Did 16 mortals kill Adolnasium to become the vessels of the shards we know today? Not specifically humans, but mortals, as Cultivation is a dragon. Then again, if dragons are mortal, why is Frost considered functionally immortal? Is it because he’s just really old?
