  1. Please bear with me on this. I'm not sure this will end up making sense, but lets see where it goes. At the end of AoL, when Miles about to be shot, he yells out "You are fools!” Miles yelled at the firing squad. “One day, the men of gold and red, bearers of the final metal, will come to you. And you will be ruled by them." In the corrections to WoR, BS makes note to change the color of a dress the woman killed with Shallan's mother was wearing to Blue and Gold. I don't have an e-book so I can't search easily search for references, but I believe the color combination of Gold and Red also makes an appearance in Stormlight. Now I think it'll get a little convoluted. With another Shard appearing on Scadrial, (Trell or otherwise) it would have it's own God metal. That metal in theory would be the one that Miles is referring to, and with that metal, the colors Gold and Red are tied to it. I believe it's fair to assume that the "Men of gold and red" are part of a World Hopping Organization, or at least led by a World Hopper who is working for a Shard. Sanderson has gone back and made sure to lay evidence that the Woman killed with Shallan's mother was wearing Blue and Gold. It could be nothing, but if so, why change it? Is it too much of a stretch to conclude that she is part of an organization that goes by B+G colors? Now if G+R is working for a Shard, what Shard is B+G working for? Also are they allies or enemies? And if they're enemies, will B+G make an appearance in BoM or does their story in somewhere on Roshar? Thoughts?...if you've managed to follow my logic
  2. Apologies in advance if this has been brought up before. I searched the forum, wiki and google for any derivative of the word 'Adonals' before posting this, so I am not sure if it has been mentioned. If so, please direct me to the appropriate place/WOBs. Appreciated. Alright, so recently I started reading Warbreaker again because I absolutely love Lightsong. When it got to the section with Hoid, Lightsong and Siri I was of course interested because this is my first re-read after having found the 17th Shard and learned theories of the Cosmere. After Hoid completed his history of Hallandren he said something I had not noticed before in reference to his storytelling/[Lightweaving]. "I learned it many, many years ago from a man who didn't know who he was, your Majesty. It was a distant place where two lands meet and gods have died." I thought about who that friend may have been, and of course my brain jumped to the biggest thing it possibly could, Adonalsium itself. This got me to think something; what if the biggest clue about Adonalsium right there in the name: -ium. Lerasium. Atium. Leras. Ati. Therefore, I believe Adonalsium is actually Adonals This fits right into how so many worlds in the Cosmere worship some other, greater god out there - and how often it does not seem like that would be Adonalsium Itself. So, the pieces of my theory fall thusly: 1) There is a greater power that has existed long before the creation of Adonalsium 2) A living being called Adonals found a way to steal/harvest/merge with energy of this higher power 3) Adonals became a physical embodiment of a portion of this power, taking the suffix '-ium' 4) When Adonalsium was shattered it caused the greater power to lose much of its ability to effect the Cosmere - while maintaining its sentience it can only act in very subtle ways And.... Sorry, don't really know exactly where I was going with this... I just don't recall ever having heard anything along these lines and I wanted to see what y'all have to say. I need to go to my university now for some paperwork, and I will try to flesh out this theory in my head a little better while I am gone. Thanks for listening to my ramblings.
  3. Following is some speculation about the underlying theme of the Cosmere series. I believe MISTER Sanderson tells the story of how magic moves from dictatorship to democracy. As the sole god and source of all the Cosmere’s investiture, Adonalsium “ruled” everywhere by himself, a dictatorship. Adonalsium’s Shattering broke divinity into Sixteen equally powerful parts, each reflecting a single aspect of divinity. Collectively, the Sixteen “ruled” after Adonalsium’s Shattering, an oligarchy of power. Now Odium wants to splinter and diffuse each of the others. What happens if he succeeds? MISTER Sanderson says (in Item 7), “Odium wants to be the only Shard. Odium could pick up other Shards if he wants to, but, he doesn't want to. His Shard is a good match for his personality and he doesn't want to be influenced by another Shard.” Ultimate hatred, however, hates everything, including all existence and, I posit, itself. Self-loathing may be at the core of hating others. If Odium succeeds, he will find himself in a hateful Cosmere, divisive and in constant war with itself. He will be without peers or other worthies to hate and will have no future other than an eternity of loneliness and purposelessness. A Cosmere whose primary emotional focus is hatred will likely destroy itself. And Odium, by himself, cannot build a new Cosmere. Hatred is not a creative force. In this respect, he’s like Ruin, he cannot create by himself. Faced with this, I think Odium will eventually destroy himself, completing Adonalsium’s disintegration. His hatred will turn inward. By splintering each Shard ending with himself, Odium will cause Adonalsium’s original investiture to diffuse throughout the Cosmere rather than be concentrated in the hands of the Sixteen. Odium is thus the Cosmere’s entropic hero, its true Revolutionary, bringing magical democracy to the Cosmere after it has been a dictatorship and an oligarchy.
  4. EDIT: THIS IS A JOKE THEORY, JUST MADE FOR MY HUMOR! RECKONERS IS NOT COSMERE IN ANY WAY! What if Kelsier is Calamity? Facts 1. Sazed has an extra bit of Ruin. 2. Brandon has been very sly about where this extra bit of Ruin is, and what is doing. 3. The 17th Shard has largely assumed that this extra bit of Ruin has gone to Kelsier. 4. Brandon has also been evasive about Kelsier's whereabouts, repeatedly referring to him being in a dimension unlike what we've seen before. 5. In Shadows of Self, Sazed (also known as Harmony) makes a comment about Kelsier: AssumptionsA. The Reckoners' version of Earth is in the same Universe as the Cosmere planet systems. Further, I would be interested to know if they are in the same dimension, but that would mostly irrelevant to the endpoint of my theory. B. #5 implies that Kelsier is gone from Sazed, or at least removed enough that they are not in direct contact. The Theory Sazed gives Kelsier the extra bit of Ruin. We know that Shardic levels of power give some level of knowledge about the universe beyond simply the physical. So Kelsier somehow does interdimensional travel to Earth. Alternatively, he could have used normal travel, albeit at speeds much greater than light (and this really depends on whether or not the two series are in the same dimension of the universe or not, but as I said earlier, this does not matter hugely to my theory). Keep in mind that even though Kelsier only has a small portion of Ruin's power, Ruin will still be corrupting (<-- interesting word choice, hmm?) him. So Kelsier will have to find some middle ground between being a hero and wanting to Ruin. When Kelsier reaches Earth, he visibly sets up shop as a red star thing (Note that red is a commonly accepted for evil, or ruin, among other things). Of course, as we already know, his influence is directly felt on earth. Since Kelsier/Calamity has come from an utterly different culture, he doesn't fully understand the governmental systems of the different nations, and resolves to fix them as quickly as possible. What better way to do this than mutating certain people on Earth, and giving them powers that corrupt them, and enable them to take over. This is precisely within Ruin's Intent. Of course, Kelsier is ultimately being tricked by Ruin. Kelsier believes that by empowering the people to take down the government, he is improving their chances of ultimately surviving, because that's what he did, in his previous life. Unfortunately, Ruin's insidious influence is blinding him to the fact that really, the Epics are only encouraging the breakdown of society, and the more they use their powers, the more corrupt and Ruinous they become. That's pretty much the theory. I think it fits with what we know now about the Reckoners/Cosmere. I could speculate about what will happen in Calamity, but I'm sure Brandon will surprise us all anyway. Possible Objections Why didn't Kelsier/Calamity give everyone powers, and not just a few people? Not sure. Isn't a bit far-fetched/too-early to speculate on this, since we don't know what the next books in the respective series will hold in terms of plot details? I don't think it's ever too early to make a theory. Questions I plan to make a list of questions to flesh out my theory a little more, and if I could get some help asking these (Brandon rarely comes to my area), that would bebutterly fantasmic. I'll try to be as specific as possible to avoid the possibility of RAFOs. 1. Is Kelsier Calamity? (Quite direct, and would probably get RAFOd, but 'ey, it's worth a try.) 2. Does Calamity have some Shardic Influence (Note that this has previously been answered as "No" when asked if Calamity is a Shard. Under my theory, Calamity is some of the power of a Shard, not a full Shard. Pretty sneaky, Sanderson!) 3. Is the Reckoner!Earth in the same narrative universe/dimension as he Cosmere? 4. Have we seen Calamity in another series? Again, any and all help in asking these questions would be much appreciated. I think that for right now, we have a high chance of being RAFOd, because honestly, I don't think this connection has been noticed by a lot of people. So consistency and determination will be key. Thanks all for reading.
  5. So this is going to be brief because frankly, this is pretty insane and most likely wrong. But my theory is that Trell is the force that WoB has confirmed to have been opposing Adonalsium. And why do I think this? Because of this: https://www.reddit.com/r/books/comments/2ytg2h/im_novelist_brandon_sanderson_ama/crwx3j1?context=3 WoB states that there is belief in a God who is not one of the Shards, and implies that that god is real. So how does that relate to Trell?. Well, the people of Scadrial believed in him pre-final empire, and Miles and Lessie seem to believe in him, and surely a third shard's presence on Scadrial would be detected by Ruin or Preservation? (Although, I admit i dont think anything says that there has never been a third shard on Scadrial at any point.) So maybe the presence of a being that was not a shard, and was instead something either powerful enough or different enough that it could go undetected on Scadrial was felt? Well that could easily be the force that opposed Adonalsium. And what do we know for certain about that force? A) It opposed Adonalsium, it had created a weapon to be used against Adonalsium and C) It's still around. So we know that whatever this force was, it really didn't like Adonalsium, and it's still out there somewhere. Which is why I think that it could be seeking to eliminate the shards. Now who else doesn't like the Shards? Lessie. Lessie, who believed in Trell and hated Harmony (a.k.a the biggest/strongest piece of Adonalsium around). So we know that there was something that was totally against Adonalsium, and it is still around, doesn't it make sense that it would set it's sights on what was left of Adonalsium after the Shattering? So maybe it looked around, and found that two of the shards which were diametrically opposed were on the same planet and decided that it would be easy to start off by getting rid of the two that would have the hardest time working together, and best to eliminate the one that embodied destruction itself (Ruin) for safety's sake. Heck, maybe it even looked around and noticed that Odium was going around doing his work for him and decided to steer clear of it's unwitting helper, and chooses Scadrial over somewhere like Nalthis or Roshar. So along to Scadrial comes Trell. He sets up shop, either waiting and watching the shards or subtly turning people against them. But then something totally unexpected happens, the two shards combine, creating Harmony. Suddenly Trell has an even bigger piece of Adonalsium to be rid of, so what does he do? He redoubles his efforts to destroy it. Thus leading to his increased presence on Scadrial as he starts trying to turn people away from Harmony. Which incidentally leads to why Trell might not be another shard as seems to be the most popular idea. Firstly, the timely reveal of Autonomy's existence totally seems like a red herring. Intended to distract people and make them think that Autonomy is Trell. But so far, all we really know is that whoever Trell may be, that someone is fighting against Harmony. But Autonomy has been off, being autonomus forever and Harmony as far as we know, has given Autonomy no reason to think that he might intend to interfere with that, while Adonalsium's Opposition (which has been lying conspicuously low) has just gained its new most powerful enemy. And guess what? as soon as Harmony appears, Trell returns and his followers, scarce though they may be, are starting to turn up. And those followers seem pretty opposed to Harmony. Sorry if this isn't all that coherent. I'm basically grasping at straws here, and im rushing in case someone else thinks of this and posts before me. Please tell me what you think. Tl;Dr: I think Trell is the force that opposed Adonalsium, because it has been confirmed to still be around and it is confirmed that a god that is not a shard exists, and the revealing of Autonomy looks like a red herring, while enemies of Harmony (the biggest piece of Adonalsium right now) seem to follow Trell.
  6. Hello, all. So, I'm new to posting here, but I've read just about EVERYTHING I can get my hands on about realmatic theory, WoB, the Cosmere, etc. As I was going through some things on Hoid recently, something hit me: Why is the Seventeenth Shard after him, really? I mean, it's apparent that they don't like/agree with him on the way he does things, but why is a group of our heroes (assuming Vao is as heroic as both Demoux and Galladon) chasing this man? He doesn't seem evil. He certainly has an agenda, sure, but he's not a bad guy, I think. (He's going to have his own series, for pete's sake.) Here's what I think: the answer to our question is in the two epigraph letters from TWoK and WoR and in the name of the organization chasing him--the Seventeenth Shard. We all know that he witnessed the shattering of Adonalsium. The recipient of the first letter makes it sound like Hoid's presence at the shattering of Adonalsium wasn't just as a bystander--he had a hand in it. In fact, in the second letter we read: "Is not the destruction we have wrought enough? The worlds you now tread bear the touch and design of Adonalsium. Our interference so far has brought nothing but pain." and (speaking of Rayse), "He bears the weight of God’s own divine hatred, separated from the virtues that gave it context. He is what we made him to be, old friend." Hoid, then, is likely to have caused the shattering of Adonalsium alongside--perhaps--the recipient of the first letter. But that alone is not why they are seeking him, I think. The answer, as I said, lies in their name. In causing the shattering, I think Hoid became the only vessel capable of containing all the shards' power again--in effect, he is the seventeenth shard. They need him. And that's why they're after him. He's their liege and their plans require him. Hoid, however, has his own plans and finds them to be useless or, at the very least, unhelpful. Another theory would be that Hoid was originally a piece of Adonalsium himself and now is the only remaining physical aspect of the god left. This one feels unlikely due to what we know of his likely past. I think we have a few evidences of this all being feasible: 1. Hoid is Spiritually Blind. In the shattering, he could have lost this ability. All of the shards are filled to the brim with investiture (which we know comes from this realm). It could have something to do with it. 2. Hoid is unable to kill (or unwilling to). Maybe during the shattering when he became the vessel for deity (or became... infected with deity) he became unable to destroy Adonalsium's greatest creation: mankind. 3. According to WoB, Hoid is really, really, really hard to kill. I think this would account for that. There are likely others. I think its a sound theory. But... I want to hear what you guys think. Be brutal. I'd like to see what the consensus on this would be. Let me summarize in closing: Hoid is not a shardholder, but the required vessel for recreating Adonalsium in all of its/his glory because he caused/took part in the shattering or because he was originally a part of the divine. The Seventeenth Shard (group) has so named themselves because they seek him (Hoid) in order to rebuild their sundered God. Edited for clarity.
  7. After finding that that dastardly Vasher made it into The Stormlight Archive, I wondered if other godlike characters can world hop such as Sazed. Is it likely Brandon Sanderson will make them all come together in some epic battle for the Cosmere?
  8. This will be an updating list of music I've written based on the Cosmere. Some pieces will have their own topic if necessary (i.e. a timeline of events). Please give me feedback on the pieces, I need to be motivated to write more, especially to move WIP pieces to Finished Works. Finished Works: 4 (*new) Works In Progress: 4 Are any of these pieces worth finishing? In order from most finished to least finished. (All these tracks are private)
  9. Hello all! Happy holidays! I printed some Cosmere-themed postcards, using some of my fan art pieces, and I think it'll be nice to send some of them to Sharders. So I decided to give away 5-10 pieces here =) If you are interested and are willing to share your address, please send me the number of the card you want most and what you’d love to see on the back (For example, I can do additional art sketch for you.), via message inside the forum. Then I’ll contact you for further details. So be quick! (If there's anyone.) First come, first serve! (Once I receive enough requests, I’ll close the giveaway.) Note that card #8 is out of supply now.
  10. I improvised a piece about all the (published) books in the cosmere, in chronological order. Listen to it here: https://youtu.be/9E-qNmhsZ5s No sheet music, unless you have perfect pitch and feel like writing it out for everyone. Hope you enjoy. -JP
  11. Many of the more dedicated comsmerologists will have heard of the Mistborn Llama. Those of you who follow Brandon on twitter or reddit will see it as his profile pic. But no-one has ever sought to ask the question, what is the Mistborn Llama? Clearly, it is a creature of much secrecy. There has not been even the smallest whisper of it in the cosmere. But what form of dark force is so powerful, that it can keep even the 17th Shard from discovering it's true nature? I bring to you a revelation. The Mistborn Llama is, in fact, one of the most important hidden powers in the cosmere. It is even suspected that The Mistborn Llama may have been the holder of Adonalsium prior to it's shattering. In fact, new news has even suggested that the Mistborn Llama, resorting to desperate measures, has formed an alliance with another, almost as powerful as the Mistborn Llama itself. It is a name spoken fearfully throughout the cosmere. The name of Stick. Together, it is suspected that the Mistborn Llama and the Stick may have plans for revenge. The Mistborn Llama, for the distance it has fallen. And the Stick has a pathological desire to destroy the Cosmere to show his supreme stickliness. Their plan, if unwatched, will be an even greater threat to the cosmere than Odium himself, drowning out the entire universe in nuclear Llamageddon. Join me in this fight, and save the cosmere! We must fight against the odds, face much grave peril, to fight this foe. We may not survive this journey. We have only this picture of our foe to help us. Our plan, as it stands, is this. It is believed that the Mistborn Llama will release the Llamastorm, turning every llama into an ultra powerful weapon of death: the Llamabringer. Once this happens, the Mistborn Llama and the Stick will have us at their mercy. I intend to launch a pre-emptive strike, obliterating all llamas before Llamageddon. Who's with me?
  12. So my friend told me Brandon Sanderson has gone on record saying how hemalurgy is the most important mist born metal art, and i didn't believe him. Honestly, the hemalurgy table is sort of bland except for stealing feruchimal and allomantic powers. even figuring out what spikes the Kandra have (blessing of potency-Steel, blessing of one ness, zinc, etc) got old. UNTIL he said that hemalurgy could steal more than just mist born magic. We could use it with breath and awakened metal, or one of the knight radiant surges essences, etc. etc. Ive heard that it is based on blood, as is one of the essences in WoR so if another splintered shard picked up ruins/harmonys hemalurgy tricks, that could explain the honor blades and such. The fact that brandon sanderson actually said this is really the only leg this has to stand on but i want to see what you guys think. BTW what metal is in Waxilliums earing when he speaks to harmony? And who did he kill to get it through harmony? Can harmony change the laws of hemalurgy now that he is a double shard? Btw also excuse my spelling
  13. Finally finished SoS, so I can post this question now. In Chapter 13, when Wayne goes to visit the "temple of the common man" (bar), is this the first time the Cosmere is mentioned by name in a book (not WoB's but in actual canonized text)? It's in the 7th paragraph of Chapter 13. Then, at the end of the 10th paragraph of the same chapter "the God Beyond" is mentioned. Is this Adonalsium, the One, the unknown god, etc...?
  14. So, I was reading the annotations for one Cosmere book or another, it's not important, but I came upon something that was. Sanderson said that the abilities of the different magic systems don't matter, but the Shard does determine how the use of Investiture is unlocked. So, I have theories about how, exactly, the different magic systems are used, depending on the Shard. Allomancy: We refer commonly to Snapping, without detailing exactly what it does. Such intense pain makes the person want to preserve their lives more than almost anything else in the world, giving them power. Feruchemistry: We don't know how Feruchemists unlock their powers. Hopefully we'll find out in Bands of Mourning. Hemalurgy: The foundation of Hemalurgy is that anyone can use it. However, in order to practice the art, you need to have the intention of destroying life, basically of ruining. Surgebinding: Specifically the Knights Radiant. They go through a situation similar to Snapping, but they hold fast to one aspect of Honor's intent throughout the experience, keeping it as their compass, structuring everything they do around that one ideal. Sorry for the philosophy/poetry, Voidbinding: We don't know enough to be able to make any conclusions. AonDor and Forging: With these, they both are unlocked by a lot of devotion on the part of the recipient. Galladon and his father were both focused on agricultural methods, Raoden on his people, etc. Other Elantrians were painters, sculptors, or other devoted members of society. Forging is unlocked by first intense dedication (devotion) in learning every other kind of Forgery. Dakhor: it seems that this is unlocked by the dominion of others, getting them to sacrifice their lives in order to grant you supernatural powers. I'm actually quite hesitant about the Selish powers, since they are apparently one magic system. Returning: This is apparently granted by valuing the wellbeing of others above your own life, demonstrated by the known back stories of Returned, as well as their motivations for giving up their Divine Breath. That's all I can think of at the moment. If anyone has any information on any of these, including magic systems I forgot, input would be nice.
  15. So I was browsing the Coppermind when I came across the page for Trelagism, the religion of the worshippers of Trell. Some background: Trelagists believed that there were two gods, Trell and his healous brother Nalt. They thought that the night was sacred, as they could see the thousand eyes of Trell, the stars. They believed that in the day, Nalt shined his single eye (the sun) on the world, blocking the trelagists from seeing Trell's eyes, as he was jealous of their worship. Now, this strikes me as very similar to the religion described by Ishikk in the Stormlight Archive. They worship Nu Ralik, but they pretend to worship Vun Makak, his jealous brother, the source of all of their misfortunes, to appease him. I think that this is intentional, and that we will see something about this in some of the later Cross-Cosmere books. Thoughts? TL:DR - Religious conspiracy. Purelakian religion is very similar to one of the Scadrian Religions. Expect to see explanation later in the cosmere.
  16. I am not familiar with what the writing tropes in literature actually are and i was wondering to what extent does Brandon, and other authors, use them? What are common Fantasy writing tropes? Does Brandon ever make a mockery of the use of them? I felt like that is what he was doing in The Stormlight Archive with Rosharan society having such strict Gender specific roles. To me it made me look at the whole idea of Gender specific roles as ridiculous. Did he ever do something like that with other writing tropes that i never noticed? Finally, is there a trope that Brandon consistently uses across most of his books?
  17. Greetings from the Tardis. And Camelot. And the back of the Impala that suspiciously has wifi. And from the Argo ll. Yeah... So! As you can see, I come from all over the interweb. Places wide and far, mostly tv shows of course. Then one day at Barnes and Noble, I saw a giant book. This huge paperback. It was the start of summer so I figured I should read something big, a challenge. So I picked it up, read the back. Was instantly slightly confused. Read the prologue, still confused. So I put it back, thinking to find another book. A few seconds after that, my mom tells me that time's up, we have to go, you better have a book by now. I, of course, had no book.I ran back, grabbed the huge paperback, and brought it up, having conveniently forgotten the five dollar limit. I still manage to get it. Somehow, the paperback ends up on the shelf, left unread until school when I need to read. Three weeks later, I finish it, and I'm begging my mom to go back for the sequel. Three days after that, I get the sequel. Two days after that, I'm done with it and scouring the interweb for any trace of Stormlight Archive. And here I am. So, hello. I have a question though, do we have a fan name?
  18. Before I get into the main topic, I want to clarify that this is not about the civilization Raoden created inside the fallen Elantris. I apologize for the title, but it seems appropriate. So, I was reading the Elantris annotations, and I was reading the part where Aons were not very powerful in Teod. Sanderson explains that the Aons are about as strong as they were before Raoden fixed Elantris. Perhaps AonDor is not the stationary magic we thought it was, unable to be used on other Shardworlds like Allomancy is. Perhaps Elantrians could construct other cities based on Aon Ado (I think it's the one) and get the powers proximity to Elantris grants, but in other countries. Perhaps these cities could also be built on, say, Skadrial. Whole cities of Worldhopping, powerful Elantrians? Oh, yes I did. Besides, we really don't know everything about any of the magic systems except maybe Allomancy. Who knows?
  19. I know I heard Brandon talk about the Cosmere movie rights as an entire unit in one of his signings but I can't find it now. It was in the context of how Marvel/DC/etc are connected universes and how that's big in Hollywood right now and he mentioned that he sold the entire Cosmere tv/movie rights (minus one series I believe) to someone but he couldn't say who specifically. I just want to know if anyone has a source on that because I want to hear the wording again. It would have been on a Shadows of Self tour I believe. Definitely recent. And yes I've done my best to look for myself for mention of this on here and outside of the forums but I came up dry. Thanks guys.
  20. We know that feruchemy was formed as a result of 2 shards with opposite intent both choosing the same planet to stay and cultivate. Could a magic system similar to feruchemy be formed on other planets with shards of opposite intent but with a different focus? (instead of metal)
  21. Is there a better thing in the world than the look of dawning realization in the face of someone who has just fully GOTTEN the full impact of the Cosmere and all of its implications for the first time? I was in church this morning and had brought both of my Stormlight hardcovers to loan to a friend (I started her on Warbreaker, then quickly graduated her through Elantris and the Final Empire Mistborn trilogy. She read The Emperor's Soul this afternoon). As we stood dicussing Hoid, Harmony and all things Cosmeric, a man I'd never met before came up all excited pointing at the books and said "I love those books! Have you read them?" Now there are not a lot of Sanderson fans here in Pennsylvania (I'm working on rectifying that), so I was really excited and asked him if he was a fan of the Cosmere. He said "No, I've read those and the Mistborn trilogy and Elantris, but I haven't read the Cosmere series yet." The look of astonishment and excitement on his face when I told him that was extremely satisfying. I told him that he'd have to read Warbreaker next, and he asked me where that fit in. I thought for a second, and then said His eyes got wide and he turned and called to his wife across the room: "Honey, we're stopping at the bookstore on the way home!" Another one for team Pennsylvania. Someday, I'm going to see this state have the biggest Cosmere fandom in the country, even if I have make every single convert myself.
  22. There are many ways to get the investiture needed for the various magic systems. There is directly consuming it from an outside source, like Stormlight, there is harnessing the innate investiture of others, like Awakening, there is channeling the investiture, never actually taking it in but instead acting more like a water faucet for the power, like AonDor, and then there is Skadrial's Allomancy. Where does the Investiture come from? Is it harnessing the innate Investiture? Or is the Investiture simply stored inside the metal like gemstones on Roshar? Or is the investiture burning through the metal, using it as a pipeline like the faucet? Or is the Investiture accessed in a way we haven't seen before, and every Shardworld has a different method to access Investiture? Edit: Typos
  23. So, I'm pretty sure a ton of people here dressed up in Brandon Sanderson costumes for Halloween, so here's the place to show them off! I'll start: I was Wayne! What were your costumes?
  24. Hoid is both an Allomancer and a Ferrochemist. But please note these few things about him. 1. He didn't necessarily use the bead of Lerasium to become a Allomancer unless there was an interview that I didn't read. Regardless of whether he is a Mistborn or just a Misting, and similarly with Ferruchemy. It's still possible that he is compounding much like the Lord Ruler did in order to stay young. Brandon said "He did steal a bead of Lerasium off of Scadrial. If he were to make use of that bead, certain powers would have been gained." 2. He would likely be from Scadrial given he could gain BioChromatic Breath. Despite this many people think he is from Yolen. I will admit that I haven't read ever book in the Cosmere yet, but I'm almost done, and my theory makes sense; at least to me. 3. None of his powers are gained from Hemalurgy So little is known about the ability LightWeaving on Yolen, so to assume that he's from there and that it is heredity it foolish, so let's assume that like BioChromatic Breath, LightWeaving can be gained, or like Forging, it can at least be taught. The ability to visit Shadesmar can be gain in many ways, and the ability to manipulate it comes from practice. He uses Feruchemy to gain limited foresight, so he can know where he should be. This leads to my believing that he has lived through ages, maybe even since the shattering, though we know he isn't a Shard. It's quite possible though. As far as we know, Ferruchemy is strictly genetic, but being the oldest form of magic on Scadrial, it makes sense that he is from there, likely before the Rise of the Lord Ruler. His ability to heal and "bend time" could also come of Terris heritage. I don't think that he is a MistBorn, but rather a twin born of multiple abilities. NOT a full MistBorn and Ferrochemist though. Comment below with objections or support of this theory, I'd enjoy hearing what you guys think about it. -Java
  25. On Scadrial, Bronze Mistings can, with practice, determine what metal is being burned by the wavelength of the pulse. On Roshar, Lightweaving can apparently influence sound and light waves, and the Listeners Rhytms seem to play an important role in their society. On Sel, Raoden tries to understand some books that discuss something about measuring the wavelength of the Aons, or some such. Basically, waves play a large role in Invesiture, particularly in the different uses of Investiture in one magic system. Any thoughts? Any additions to this rough theory of the Cosmere would be invaluable.
