  1. I noticed that the wiki article for Alendi's logbook is missing the section that Vin reads at the beginning of Chapter 22 of Mistborn: The Final Empire (page 363-364). It contains the beginning of that section, which is also the epigraph of Chapter 3, but starting from "We picked up a group of Terris packmen...", it is missing. I would make an account to add it myself, but the "Known Text" section says "please do not alter without permission from the creator" because it is intellectual property. I might make an account anyway, but I don't want to make this edit myself. I only found this missing passage because I happened to be in the middle of looking through The Final Empire specifically for passages of the logbook. If I happen to stumble upon others which the wiki doesn't include, I will mention it in a reply here.
  2. There's a footnote on the Malatium page that says, "Given the only circumstance in which this effect is seen, it may be a result of flaring malatium at the moment of death and transition to the Cognitive Realm, rather than a result of simply flaring the metal in and of itself." The problem with that being the book contradicts it. There's 3 circumstances where it's used, not 1, and the effects are seen each time. The first being when Vin went to Kredik Shaw after Kelsier's death, and found the Lord Ruler is his little hut as an old man. She wasn't near death or being attacked or injured, just being held by 2 inquisitors. Yet burning it let her see the past versions of both inquisitors and the Lord Ruler without a near death situation. The second being in the throne room, burning it to see his past self then trying to attack it, clearly not near death. The third when she burned it and realized who he really was, injured, but not near death. I'm wondering if whoever wrote it got it mixed up with when Vin embraced the mists to kill the Lord Ruler. The only moment she was at the brink of death was after revealing him to be Rashek and he began to actually kill her. The moment it said she was dying, when she actually was "at the moment of death and transition to the Cognitive Realm" was when she was able to embrace the mists. No where in the book is she anywhere near death whenever she burns malatium, just when she embraces the mists.
  3. Hello all! I have recently started editing on the coppermind, and I'm really in awe of how much there is! I love the Cosmere, and have listened to almost all of it through Audiobooks. I think that it could be quite a useful insertion to the pages if the pronunciations were written on the pages according to how Micheal Kramer and Kate Reading pronounce them. I don't know if this is an idea that has been put out before, so I would love some input. Thanks!!
  4. The Frugal Wizard's Handbook for Surviving Medieval England is HERE, and over on the Coppermind Wiki we are back in action! The novel dropped on April 1st for Kickstarter backers and today it is now available for anyone to purchase. We've been hit with two cosmere releases over the last six months, and two more are coming in 2023, so this will continue to be a busy year for the wiki. And we need your help! Veteran editors and newbies are all appreciated! Everybody teamed up for the Tress Cup earlier this year and it was a huge success, with the majority of articles marked as complete. Before we go any further, we want to give a shoutout to everyone who participated! Those amazing people are all listed here, and their awards have been placed on the awards subpage on their user pages. In particular, thanks go to Firesong, Samwalton9, and Leafygeans who earned 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place respectively! Check out their fancy cups--Tress would be proud! So here's the plan for Frugal Wizard: We're kicking off the official Frugal Wiki's Tournament for Surviving the Year of Sanderson, in which we'll be trying to knock out as many Frugal Wizard-related updates as possible. This competition will run for one month--starting today, Tuesday April 11th, and concluding at the end of Wednesday May 10th. You can find the list of objectives here. Put your username in the "Claimed By" column to claim it. We ask that people only claim one article at a time! When you're finished mark it complete in the "Status" column and move on to another objective! Each objective has been assigned a point value based on how difficult we feel it will be. The goal for each article is to bring it fully to completion. Complete the objective and you get the full point value; partial credit may also be granted. The person with the most points at the end of the competition is the winner! All participants will receive a one-time-only Frugal Wiki Wizard Award to show off on their user page, and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will get a special version to mark their accomplishment! And that's to say nothing of the self-satisfaction I can guarantee as well as the undying gratitude of countless Sanderson fans! Never edited Coppermind before? No problem! It's not hard and we've got plenty of resource to get you started. The most important thing you can do is join our Discord server, where you can get personal help at all hours. From there we can also recommend several guides and examples that will get you started. Just let us know that you're new and we'll give you a warm welcome! The tournament begins NOW! Let's do this!
  5. We use the Arcanum for as close to possible verbatim transcriptions which aligns more closely with in universe copperminds and the Coppermind is for encyclopedic analysis which correlates to the in universe Ars Arcanum
  6. Tress of the Emerald Sea is HERE, and over on the Coppermind Wiki we are in crunch mode! The novel dropped on January 1st for Kickstarter backers and today it is available for anyone to purchase. Between The Lost Metal's release in November and several new books coming in 2023, this is going to be a busy year for the wiki. And we need your help! Veteran editors and newbies are all appreciated! Thankfully, a large amount of Tress work is really fairly simple! Though there's certainly a few articles that will require more extensive effort, we've got a long list of newly-created, bite-sized articles to fill in! If you've never had the satisfaction of updating a Coppermind article to completion, you've missed out. And we've got a whole buffet of them just waiting for you! Here's the plan: We're kicking off the first (and only) official Coppermind Tress Cup, in which we'll be trying to knock out as many Tress-related updates as possible. This competition will run for one month--starting today, Tuesday January 10th, and concluding at the end of Thursday February 9th. You can find the list of objectives here. Put your username in the "Claimed By" column to claim it. We ask that people only claim one article at a time! When you're finished make a note in the "Complete?" column and move on to another objective! Each objective has been assigned a point value based on how difficult we feel it will be. The goal for each article is to bring it fully to completion. Complete the objective and you get the full point value; partial credit will earn you one point. And the person with the most points at the end of the competition is the winner! All participants will receive a one-time-only Tress Cup Award to show off on their user page, and the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will get a special version to mark their accomplishment! And that's to say nothing of the self-satisfaction I can guarantee as well as the undying gratitude of countless Cosmere fans! The competition begins NOW! Let's do this!
  7. I don't always have internet access, and I would love to have a complete version of the Coppermind wiki available offline. Does the resource exist, or does anyone know of any way to create one? Thanks.
  8. Hey everyone! The Keepers of the Coppermind have a brief announcement for you! If you haven't heard, this is a particularly special month for the Coppermind: It's NaCoWriMo! It’s the famous, very well known, National Coppermind Writing Month! Well, maybe you know somebody participating in NaNoWriMo (for those of you taking that challenge, our hats are off to you!)... But if writing 50,000 words of a novel isn’t really your thing, but you want to contribute to the wiki, then this is the challenge for you! Contributions on the Coppermind are generally measured in bytes, rather than words, so anyone who contributes 30,000 bytes (roughly three thousand words) in the month of November will get a special, magical NaCoWriMo award, displayed on your user page for all to see! Never helped edit the Coppermind wiki before? Have no fear! Editing the wiki is open to everyone because we are always thankful for any help you can give! And it's easy to get started on! There's a whole team of people on our Discord server who are more than happy to help you find an article you're interested in improving, to fix some tricky bit of formatting, or to answer any other question you may have. Fixing mistakes is easy, so don’t worry about messing anything up. Your contributions are invaluable to us, and the best way to learn is through experience! For large projects, check the Coppermind Claims spreadsheet and make sure the article isn’t already claimed. If it isn’t, then go ahead and add it on there. There are still several items from the June/July Objectives List to work on, as well as many Mistborn-related pages from the TLM Objectives List. But work on whatever pages interest you, whether they be objectives or not! And of course after The Lost Metal is out mid-month there will be a lot of new work to do! As always, we recommend that you stop by our Discord server if you'd like to add something to the list, because coordination goes a long way. Joining Discord is easy, so don't skip it! We’ll be checking the contribution table at the end of the month to find out who gets a shiny new award. Until then, happy editing!
  9. Hey there, we’re back with another round of Coppermind Objectives! The Lost Metal (Wax & Wayne 4) will be out before too long, and there’s still plenty of work to be done to prepare the Coppermind for it! There are tons of ways to help, so we hope you’ll join in! We’ll happily accept any help we can get, so don’t be shy. If you're new to editing the Coppermind, don't worry; we'll help you out with guides and plenty of assistance. You don't need experience or expertise, just the will to help out! We'll also give you Coppermind awards, because there’s nothing more fun than fake internet points! Without further ado, here are our objectives for The Lost Metal! If you find something you'd like to help with, claim it here, and let us know if you have any questions! If nothing in the list below catches your eye, there are leftover objectives from previous months up for grabs in the claim spreadsheet. If you sign up for something, please say hi on Discord so that we can offer support and touch base with you! Major Objectives 1. Edgard Ladrian As part of Kelsier’s crew, Breeze is one of the key figures of the Mistborn Era 1 books. Despite this, his page is lacking in many areas, especially his History and Relationships sections. 2. Cladent Though often more in the background than other members of Kelsier’s crew, Cladent’s page is also missing a lot of information. His History and Relationships sections need a lot of work. 3. Urteau Urteau is where most of Spook’s plotline takes place during The Hero of Ages, and it is missing a lot of information. It needs to be filled out with details about the policies and laws enacted there after the Lord Ruler’s death, the events that transpired there, and information on the city itself. 4. New Empire The New Empire is currently our only Mistborn Era 1 stub, there’s plenty of work to be done on it. The New Empire is the name for the empire that Elend establishes after the fall of the Final Empire, and we’re given a lot of information about it. The page needs to be filled out with information on the government and policies of the New Empire, as well as its history. 5. Terris The information on the Terris page is currently pretty scattered and brief, and much of it needs expanding. In addition, there’s no information on the page about the post-Catacendre Terris. In addition to expanding on the Era 1 information already there, this page needs to include details from Era 2 as well. Minor Objectives 1. Siege of Fadrex City (citations) Much of Vin and Elend’s plotline in The Hero of Ages takes place at Fadrex City. Fadrex's page needs to be filled out (and organized) with information on the city itself, as well as a brief history of the city. 2. Allik Neverfar Allik doesn’t get a ton of time on-screen since he only appears in The Bands of Mourning, but there’s still some more work to be done on his page. His History section needs expanding, and his whole page is in need of several citations. 3. Originators This page is one of our few Mistborn Era 2 Stubs. This page doesn’t need a ton of information on it, but it’d be good to add more details on how the Originators are regarded in Era 2 Scadrial’s culture, and their influences. If you have any questions on where to go with this page, the Keepers would be happy to point you in the right direction. 4. The Village The Village is the main Terris settlement in Elendel, where Wax lived for a time. This page doesn’t need a whole lot of new info, but it’s still missing some details, especially from The Shadows of Self. 5. The Deepness The Deepness page is pretty complete, except for that it needs several citations. This job should be pretty easy if you have the ebooks, since you can use the word search function. 6. Kelsier’s Relationships section Despite being one of the two main characters in The Final Empire, Kelsier only has a section for Marsh in his Relationships, and nobody else. His Relationships section needs to include other characters as well, such as Vin, Dockson, and others. 7. Marsh’s Relationships section Another key figure in the Era 1 Mistborn books, Marsh is lacking a Relationships section completely. It should at least have details about his relationship with Kelsier, since there's a lot to get into there. 8. Marasi’s Relationships section Marasi is one of the four main characters in Wax and Wayne, so she’s pretty important. Her Relationships section already has Wax and Steris on there, but it would be good to have a section for Wayne, and maybe Allik. In addition, the sections for Wax and Steris need quotes. 9. Wax’s Relationships section Similar to Marasi, Wax already has a Relationships section with a few characters on there, which are all lacking quotes. In addition, it would be good to have sections for Marasi and Edwarn, Wax’s uncle. 10. MeLaan A&A and Relationships section MeLaan’s page has good History and Appearance & Personality sections, but is completely lacking Relationships and Attributes & Abilities sections. These need to be added and filled out with the necessary information. Her Relationships section would likely include Wayne, Marasi, and maybe others. What’s in it for me? We want to motivate people to help, so we will be giving out Coppermind awards for the users in the coming months with the most edits, and we'll also give out awards if you contributed to one of these items. They'll be on your user page for all to see. How do I start? The most important thing is to be bold! Content is hard to write, but we can always format your stuff if it doesn't quite match conventions. MediaWiki notation may appear scary at first, but the best way to learn is through experience. If you're interested, we have lots of guides to help: Help:Contents. It does very much help to have ebooks so you can find instances of a specific word or person. (This is extremely helpful for minor characters). If you have physical books, ask us and we can help you determine this so you don't need to reread the whole text. We can also direct you towards some good articles to use as a go-by. Come join us on the dedicated Coppermind Editing Discord, or come chat in the #coppermind channel on the 17th Shard Discord. We are really happy to help!
  10. After a two-year hiatus, we’re back with another round of Coppermind Objectives! We know that The Lost Metal isn’t too far off, and we’ll be releasing a series of Mistborn objectives when the release gets closer to prepare for that. But for now, there are plenty of other pages that need work, including Cytoverse, Stormlight Archive, and even the Reckoners. There are tons of ways to help, so we hope you’ll join in! We’ll happily accept any assistance we can get, so don’t be shy. If you're new to editing the Coppermind, don't worry; we'll help you out with guides and plenty of assistance. You don't need experience or expertise, just the will to help out! We'll also give you Coppermind awards, because there’s nothing more fun than fake internet points. Without further ado, here are our objectives for June and July. Larger Projects Let's start with some larger projects. These objectives will definitely require some research and a good bit of writing. Anyone is welcome to take them - we just don't want you to feel like you've bitten off more than you can chew. 1. Superiority First up is the Superiority, the giant multi-species nation that governs most of the known universe in the Cytoverse books. This page already has all the information from Skyward and Starsight on it, but needs to be updated with Cytonic and the three Skyward Flight novellas. 2. Detritus The Detritus page barely has any information on it right now, despite all we know about both the planet and its platforms. The page needs info from all the Cytoverse books, including the novellas. If you’re confused about how to organize the information on such a broad topic, we’ll be happy to help! 3. Shallan’s Rhythm of War History Despite being one of the main characters in the Stormlight Archive, Shallan’s History section is very lacking when it comes to info from Rhythm of War. It only has a few short paragraphs, but her actions in the book need to be explained in greater detail. This job is straightforward, but will require a good deal of reading and research. 4. Earth (Reckoners) Reckoners isn’t Brandon’s most popular series, but it still needs plenty of work! There is plenty of information to be unpacked about the world itself, but right now there’s not much on the page besides a list of the different Fractured States. This one will require a good deal of research, but it badly needs some work. 5. Morriumur Morriumur is part of the main crew in Starsight, yet their page is quite lacking. They don’t have a history section or a relationship section at all. They have an Appearance and Personality section and an Attributes and Abilities section, but even those need more filling out. This page needs a bunch of info, but it also has the advantage of Morriumur only appearing in one book so far. 6. Vapor Similar to Morrimur, Vapor is an important character who only appears in Starsight, but needs lots of info. She only has about a paragraph in her history section, and not much else. She’ll need all the various sections filled out with info from Starsight. 7. Trackt The Trackts are a fairly important element in White Sand, serving as the law enforcement in Lossand. Their page barely has any information as of now, but there’s a fair bit to be unpacked from the books. This would include their organization and how they operate, as well as their notable activities. Smaller Tasks These are objectives that won’t take as much heavy research and writing, and won’t take as long to do. Many of these may take some more careful digging, which can be made a lot easier if you have the ebook for the relevant book. 1. Rock’s Relationships Rock is a popular character from the Stormlight Archive, and most of his page is pretty well filled out. However, he doesn’t have a Relationships section, despite having a full family, and close bonds with various members of Bridge Four. This project will require a decent amount of research, but should be fun to do and not take super long. 2. Shu-Korath Shu-Korath is one of the major religions on Sel in Elantris, and already has a decent amount of information on its page. However, it only has one citation on the entire page. The page could use a bit more filling out, particularly about their beliefs, and it needs citations for the whole page. 3. Teshav Khal Brightlady Teshav Khal is the wife of General Khal, and the scribe for both him and Dalinar. She appears several times in Oathbringer, and has a few appearances in Rhythm of War, where she accompanies Dalinar to Emul. Her history section just needs updating from both books, and should be fairly straightforward. If you have Oathbringer or Rhythm of War in ebook form, using the search function will make the job a lot easier. (And if you don’t, many of our staff have the ebooks, and would be happy to help) 4. Stoff Stoff is a Vice Admiral in the DDF, and an important character in Evershore. He currently only has one sentence on his page, despite there being quite a bit to cover about him. He’ll need an Appearance and Personality section and a History section, though likely not Relationships or Attributes and Abilities sections. He only appears in Evershore, which is only a novella, so his page won’t take super long to complete. 5. Peg Peg, a pirate in Cytonic, is an important character for most of the book. She has her early history on her page already, but will need the rest of it filled out, as well as the other usual sections. 6. Rinakin Rinakin doesn’t do a whole lot for most of ReDawn, but is still a fairly important character to the story. He already has well written Appearance and Personality and Attributes and Abilities sections, but is lacking both History and Relationships sections (though the latter will likely just need to include Alanik). This one will be pretty short, and again, having the ebook will likely make the job much easier. 7. Nedd Strong’s History Nedd is one of the original members of Skyward Flight, and still quite active. His other sections are quite good, but his History section needs updating with info from all three Skyward Flight novellas. 8. Arturo Mendez’s History Like Nedd, Arturo is one of the original members of Skyward Flight, and is still quite active. His other sections are fully filled out, but his History section needs updating with info from all three Skyward Flight novellas. 9. Matthew Cobb Last but not least, we have Admiral Cobb, another Cytoverse character. His other sections are fairly good, but his History section needs updating with info from Starsight, as well as all three novellas. Four books is a lot, but he doesn’t do a lot of active things in those books like he does in Skyward, so it shouldn’t be too big of a task. If you're interested, we have lots of guides to help, which you can find here: Help:Contents. It does very much help to have ebooks so you can find instances of a specific word or person (this is extremely helpful for minor characters). If you have physical books, ask us and we can help you pin down chapters so you don't need to reread the whole text. We can also direct you towards some good articles to use as a go-by. Come join us on the dedicated Coppermind Discord, or chat in the #coppermind channel on the 17th Shard Discord. We are really happy to help!
  11. What is the policy for citing suggested WoBs in Coppermind articles? Wait until it is approved / removed as a suggestion and then cite it, or is it ok to cite it while it is a suggestion?
  12. Okay, so I was having a thinky think in the shower and realized that Hoid was storing memories in Breaths like how a Feruchemist would store memories in a Coppermind. Useing one investiture for the use of another, kind of like compounding, using allomancy to get feruchemical traits. The metallic arts have the most crossover of all the magic systems, but they are by no means the only ones, and I think this is a nice example. I'm not sure if Hoid is a feruchemist (The coppermind doesn't say so, and we do not know any other way of getting it after birth. Maybe harmonium would grant it if burned, or Sazed can make people Feruchemist like he can make Spook Mistborn.) but it's still the same principle, instead of using metal to store memories, he is using breaths as its container. Thoughts?
  13. Rhythm of War is OUT! And over on the Coppermind we are moving full steam ahead to get the wiki updated. It's a massive undertaking to update the wiki for a new Stormlight Archive book. By our latest count, we expect that nearly 400 existing articles will need to be updated while at least 150 brand new articles need to be created from scratch. That's over 15% of the wiki that will need to be updated in some way due to a single book! As always, we're happy for any help we can get, so don't be shy. Editing the wiki is open to anybody and easier to do than you may think. No experience required! We've got several guides available, and an active Discord server where you can get help 24/7. If you want to help with these objectives, please join Discord and say hello so that we can coordinate! The Objectives We've got a LONG list of objectives this time, (you saw those numbers above, right?) so I'm not going to list each and every one as usual. They include everything from major characters like Rlain and Lift all the way down to the little guys like Oroden and Savrahalidem! (kudos if you know who that last one even is!) We've got heroes, antagonists, honorspren you want to punch, and at least one Azish scholar whom we're not entirely sure how they got invited. It's not all characters. We've also got some locations (like Hearthstone), groups (like the Diagram), and even an obscure piece of traditional Veden garb. You can view all the objectives, and claim one for yourself, in our Coppermind Claims spreadsheet. Like I said, we're thankful for any help we can get. So if you want to work on something not listed there, don't sweat it! Just visit our Discord server and let us know what you want to work on. If we agree that the article needs work, we'll be happy to add it to the list! You're also welcome to poke through former unclaimed objectives and claim one of those. (Let us know so that we don't miss giving you credit.) If you're sick of Stormlight Archive already, then pick one from another series! There's always another... article to write. What's in it for me? We want to motivate people to help, so we will be giving out Coppermind awards for those who earn the most points in the next two months! Each objective has been assigned a certain point value based on difficulty. Completing an objective will earn you all the points, and for partial completions we'll give you a fair portion based on how much was accomplished. We've got trophies for everyone who completes at least one objective, and special awards for those who earn the most points. The awards themselves will be on your user page for all to see! How do I to start? The most important thing is to be bold! Content is hard to write, but we can always format your stuff if it doesn't quite match conventions. MediaWiki notation may appear scary at first, but the best way to learn is through experience. If you're interested, we have lots of guides to help: Help:Contents. Every change on the wiki is recorded and checked, so don't worry about messing something up (we can fix any mistake with a few clicks) or saying something wrong. (we'll double-check your work!) It does very much help to have ebooks so you can find instances of a specific word or person. If you only have physical books, that's okay; just ask for help on Discord and someone can point you toward the important references. We can also direct you towards some good articles to use as a go-by. Come join us on the dedicated Coppermind Discord, or come chat in the #coppermind channel on the 17th Shard Discord. We are really happy to help!
  14. Hi everyone! I wanted to talk about spoilers on the Coppermind and some things we are doing on the Coppermind to assist here. First, whoa, our servers have had some serious problems keeping up with you all! The server load was really high, so apologies if you were trying to get to the wiki Tuesday and Wednesday and saw various server errors. I've upped the server capacity so we should be good now. Turns out a whole lot of you really would like to refresh your mind on details as you read the book. Now, the Coppermind has always been a site with spoilers, as wikis often do, and so we kind of played this release with our business-as-usual attitude. I'll talk a little bit about why have done things this way historically a bit later in this post. But given the server load, and the amount of comments we've had regarding spoilers, we've made some changes that I think will help everyone a bunch. Coppermind Spoiler Changes and the Time Machine First up: the Time Machine, a new permanent feature to the Coppermind! This allows you to actually set a specific date, and you will see the versions of the Coppermind page that existed at that date. So if you want to refresh yourself on a topic, you can simply set the Time Machine and select "Before Rhythm of War" and you will get the version of the page that exists at that specific date. I am REALLY excited about this, because I think this will really help the vast majority of users. There are a few ways to access the Time Machine: When you go to the Coppermind for the first time, you will get a pop-up saying the wiki can contain spoilers, but it will also have a link to the Time Machine. A link to the Time Machine is in our wiki-wide purple spoiler warning at the top of pages. (This banner won't be permanent, but it'll be up for at least a month.) Lastly, toward the top of the left sidebar, there is a Time Machine link. In the Time Machine, you can simply go in the dropdown menu, which has a few presets, which include: "Before Rhythm of War," "Before Rhythm of War and Dawnshard," "Before Oathbringer," "Before Shadows of Self, Bands, and Secret History," and lastly, "Before Words of Radiance." You can also select whatever date you'd prefer as well. We'll update this list with each big cosmere release. There are a few issues with Time Machine, so it isn't flawless. If you set the Time Machine to a certain date, and you specifically go to a brand-new Rhythm of War topic, there's no "previous" version for the Time Machine to give you, so it will give you a page after 11/17. Also, when looking back on old pages, templates use their current template version. For example, the navigation box at the bottom of Stormlight pages might have additional topics. We'll try to not have glanceable spoilers there. The last issue is that the further back you go, the more sucky the wiki is. The "Before Words of Radiance" one will look really bad and have broken templates. But! For more recent things, especially OB and on, I think this will be really, really nice for most people. Do also note that for whatever you pick, there will be spoilers for other series that existed at that time. Other things we have done beyond our usual spoiler banners at the top of pages to help with this: We now have the spoiler pop-up the first time you go to the wiki, explaining that the wiki does have spoilers. There were lots of reports of Google indexing some spoilers in its text previews for pages, which is not great. This should no longer be happening. So yeah! I hope those things, with the Time Machine, that we can get the majority of users happy. That's the main new thing for the Coppermind. Talking about the Coppermind Spoiler Policy in General Now I'd like to talk about why the Coppermind has operated this way in the past, and hopefully these explanations make sense. So, I realize I am quite biased here, but I generally assume that the internet will spoil everything all the time. This happened Monday prior to release where some jerk joined the Discord, posted a big spoiler, then left that same minute. It's the few jerks on the internet that really ruin it for everyone, right? So, the way we've done things on the Coppermind generally is to put spoiler tags as soon as possible on topics that are in the book. That way there's a big flag on top. That way, if anyone puts a spoiler on a page--which since it is a wiki, it's inevitable--then we are sure that we warned people. We did this for Oathbringer and it worked pretty well, but the fandom is clearly much bigger now. That's why when Rhythm of War came out, I spent about four hours putting spoiler flags on pages that could have Rhythm of War content, so that if in the next day spoilers were posted, they would be flagged. Many have asked why we don't put a moratorium on spoilers right after release. This is a great question. Historically, the first week after release is a huge spike of excitement. There really aren't that many wiki editors (though the last two years have been incredible, compared to 2010-2018), so this is really important excitement to have. Wikis are always perpetually behind, especially since Brandon is so prolific, so we need people's help. You can look at our recent Dawnshard Blitz where people just got a ton done. Let's suppose we did have a moratorium on spoilers, though. There's two ways to do it: we simply make that policy, and remove any spoilery edits. We do this when sample chapters come out. We didn't allow any Rhythm of War Part One content, and we had our purple spoiler banner that spoilers are not allowed until the book comes out. The issue with this was pretty simple: people put spoilers in anyway. We tried to get them removed as quickly as we can, but I can absolutely imagine a situation where after the Rhythm of War rush that there would have been tons of editors adding information regardless of our policy, and we don't catch it fast enough, and people get spoiled. I think there's a big difference in making clear and labeled spoilers rather than surprise spoilers you weren't expecting. (That was of course the problem with the Google snippets, that they were surprises.) The other way we could implement a moratorium on spoilers is by preventing anyone from editing in this period. That definitely gets around the issue of accidental spoilers for sure, but on the other hand, that is an aggressive wall if you finished Rhythm of War and you just helped out. That'd be a pretty big exit point, and we'd lose out on that. And, of course, everyone would feel a moratorium should be different lengths. Should it be one week? Some haven't received their physical copies. Should it be two weeks? A month? The longer it is, the more safe the wiki is, but the more the wiki is behind because we lost potential new editors. That's why in the past we have not done a moratorium, and we continued our spoiler policy that we had since the Coppermind's inception in 2010, to spoiler flag articles ASAP to minimize potential spoilers. I hope our new implementations with the Time Machine, the spoiler pop-up at the start, and preventing spoiler in Google snippets achieve our goals: 1. Letting people look stuff up as they read, which is a big improvement and a capability we have not had before, 2. Educating people about the Coppermind's general spoiler policy, and 3. Not having accidental spoilers. Our standard spoiler banners will exist for nine months after Rhythm of War. Dawnshard spoiler banners will exist for three months. I think we will keep our spoiler pop-up just so people know the Time Machine exists, so different readers can view articles at certain times that they desire. I'm really excited that we can actually offer this for you all. I'm so excited the answer was actually fairly simple to implement, which is typically not the case with MediaWiki. Big thanks to @Paleo, who made the spoiler pop-up and made some enhancements to the Time Machine for our use case. He's the same guy who did the coding for the fancy Roshar Map, so he's basically a wizard. A big apology to anyone who did get spoiled, especially with those Google snippets. That was not good. It definitely sucks majorly. Hopefully now we won't have this problem ever again with these new features, and we are thinking about other ways we can deal with articles that have severe spoilers on them. Nothing's ready yet regarding those, though. Apologies for being rather verbose. I thought you would prefer a full-thought out write-up, but this ended up being... much longer than anticipated. However, I imagine with us being Brandon Sanderson readers, you're not scared of large amounts of text I could obviously blab more, but I'll leave it here for now. If you come across issues, bugs, or you have any other comments or suggestions, we have a dedicated Coppermind board, and we also have a Discord server dedicated to Coppermind Editing here. If you want to help out with the wiki too, you can join us there!
  15. Hello all! I am new to the forums, but an avid user of the Coppermind. I apologize in advance if this is posted in the wrong place or if this has already been discussed. I tried searching for this and did not see anything. As I prepared for RoW / read Dawnshard, I realized how difficult it is to avoid spoilers once the Coppermind is updated. The site does a nice job of highlighting when a page contains spoilers, but if you still need info, it is tough to avoid specific "spoilery" sentences without looking at the bibliography/notes mentally blocking out those lines. THE IDEA: In your profile on the Coppermind, you select the books you've read. As you navigate the pages, any sentences attributed to books you haven't read are "blacked out", allowing you to reveal them by clicking. I've built websites before and know this is possible. Not sure what the tech stack is for the Coppermind, but I could see this feature being useful in other Wikis/ fandoms.
  16. Gasp! Coppermind Objectives?! Your eyes do not deceive you! After a 6 month hiatus we're back! The Coppermind is more up-to-date than ever, but there's always more work to be done--especially as we prepare for Rhythm of War's release in 6 months' time. There's many ways that you can help, so we hope you'll join in! As always, we're happy for any help we can get, so don't be shy. If you're new to editing the Coppermind, don't worry; we'll help you out with guides and plenty of assistance. You don't need experience or expertise, just the will to help out! We'll also provide awards, because everyone loves fake internet points! Without further ado, here are our objectives for the summer. Larger Projects Let's start with some larger projects. These objectives will definitely require some research and a good bit of writing. Anyone is welcome to take them--we just don't want you to feel like you've bitten off more than you can chew. 1. Sazed Of all the major characters, you'd think Sazed's would surely be in pretty good shape. Alas! His "Appearance and Personality" and his "Attributes and Abilities" sections are in pretty bad shape, and his History could use some work as well (especially for books 1 and 3). 2. Spensa's History Starsight has been out for some time now, and Spensa's History section is still lagging behind. It barely even covers the events of Skyward! 3. TenSoon TenSoon has a few sections that are missing altogether (Appearance/Personality and Attributes/Abilities), which is the place to start. His Era 1 history could also use some fleshing out. 4. True Desolation This one never got a proper update after Oathbringer! It needs information on the founding and early meetings of the Coalition of Monarchs, plus major events like the Siege of Kholinar and the Battle of Thaylen Field. Many of these things are covered in detail by other articles, so it doesn't need to be exhaustive, but this page should be covering the overall narrative of the True Desolation. 5. Jasnah's History If you're itching to help us prepare for Rhythm of War, this would be a great one to pick up. Jasnah still has a lot of Oathbringer update work to go. Her history section in particular is very lacking! Before moving on to the smaller objectives, I should note that there ARE some other MAJOR Stormlight characters who need Oathbringer updates still. If you're not afraid of a big character update, you're more than welcome to take one of those on! Let us know on Discord and we can talk about what you're interested in doing or what's needed most. Smaller Tasks These are tasks that are much shorter and involve characters or topics that are minor. But, hey, minor things are important to have done too! Many of these articles are so short that they will not require separate sections. Research should be fairly straight forward. For short articles, include as much as you can possibly find about them. 1. Lanna Write Lanna, from Defending Elysium, only has two lines to her article right now! Should be an easy one to bring to completion. Defending Elysium is totally worth the read, especially if you like Skyward, and as a added benefit for Coppermind editors: it's free, short, and electronic (easily searchable!). 2. Rlain Rlain's article is missing both Attributes/Abilities and Relationships sections. Pick one that interests you and finish it off! Or do both! 3. Denth's crew Here's a Warbreaker one for you. Let's flesh out our article on Denth's crew. We'd like to include some more about what they're doing together and why. 4. Outer Estates The Outer Estates form a ring around Elendel. They're only mentioned a handful of times, so this one should be really easy to bring to completion. Just be prepared to dig deep for every scrap of info that can be included! 5. Weathering Wax & Wayne's old stomping grounds in the Roughs. It's only mentioned a dozen times or so, but there's a bit more info that can be squeezed out than what we have right now. What's in it for me? We want to motivate people to help, so we will be giving out Coppermind awards for the users with the most edits, and we'll also give out awards if you contributed to one of these items. They'll be on your user page for all to see. How do I to start? The most important thing is to be bold! Content is hard to write, but we can always format your stuff if it doesn't quite match conventions. MediaWiki notation may appear scary at first, but the best way to learn is through experience. If you're interested, we have lots of guides to help: Help:Contents. It does very much help to have ebooks so you can find instances of a specific word or person. (This is extremely helpful for minor characters). If you have physical books, ask us and we can help you determine this so you don't need to reread the whole text. We can also direct you towards some good articles to use as a go-by. Come join us on the dedicated Coppermind Discord, or come chat in the #coppermind channel on the 17th Shard Discord. We are really happy to help!
  17. Hope you enjoyed your Fall break, because we're back with a new set of Coppermind objectives for November! First we need to say a big thank you to everyone who helped out with the last round of objectives. It was a quiet two months (well, accept for Rasarr who doubled down on her previous work and clocked in at over a quarter million added bytes--wow!), but we're pressing onward. The Coppermind has NEVER been in such a good state! We've got less than 5% of articles as stubs and over 2/3 of our articles are marked as complete! So thanks again to everyone for getting us here. With the release of White Sand Volume 3 and Starsight on the horizon, there will be plenty to do in the coming months, so we hope you'll join in! As always, we're happy for any help we can get, so don't be shy. If you're new to editing the Coppermind, don't worry; we'll help you out with guides and plenty of assistance. You don't need experience, just the will to help out! We'll also provide awards, because everyone loves fake internet points. Without further ado, here are our objectives for November. If you find something you'd like to help with, claim it here, and let us know if you have any questions! If you sign up for something, please say hi on Discord so that we can offer support and touch base with you! Larger Projects Let's start with some larger projects. These objectives will definitely require some research and a good bit of writing. Anyone is welcome to take them--we just don't want you to feel like you've bitten off more than you can chew. 1. Sazed Can I just stop for a moment to say how embarasing it is that SAZED's article on COPPERMIND needs a lot of work. Yeesh. Seriously though... And this is Major Mistborn Era 1 Spoilers folks... so if you haven't read Hero of Ages then stop reading this and go read Mistborn!... Seriously. This guy is one of THE most important characters in the cosmere. He's the Hero of Ages. He holds not just one, but TWO of the Shards of Adonalsium. But his "Appearance and Personality" section is a mere two sentences and we his "Attributes and Abilities" section is missing entirely. This needs some attention, I think. 2. Spensa's History With Starsight coming out in just three weeks, we'd like to do our best to get some Skyward articles up to date... And it turns out our conquering hero, Spensa herself, needs some work. Her "History" section in particular. We're not expecting an essay the size of Oathbringer... We just think Spin deserves more than a single paragraph to explain her life history! Anybody want to rise to the challenge? 3. Rodge McCaffrey Spensa's not the only major Skyward character who needs more attention. Spensa probably wouldn't be where she is without her good friend Rig. She definitely wouldn't be flying around in an operational M-Bot. Rigmarole's article needs work all around. Let's start by filling it in with some of our typical character sections and then see about fleshing the "History" section out. Smaller Tasks These are tasks that are much shorter and involve characters or topics that are minor. But, hey, minor things are important to have done too! Many of these articles are so short that they will not require separate sections. Research should be fairly straight forward. For short articles, include as much as you can possibly find about them. 1. Kabsal We've still got at least another year before we can expect more Stormlight Archive material, but that doesn't mean there's nothing to do. Kabsal is an old article that should have LONG been completed. He's got a big personality that gets glossed over and his relationship with Shallan deserves some exploration. Beyond that, simply updating his "History" section would be a big help. 2. Mr. and Mrs. Nightshade That's right, it's Zeen Nightshade! And his remarkable wife, Unnamed Mother. The trick with these two is finding information about them buried in the text... Feel free to reach out to us on Discord for some guidance on fishing this information out--we're happy to help. Beyond that, there's no reason we can't bring these two articles to completion. Feel free to take one or both. 3. White Sand Two objectives in one isn't crazy enough for you? How about an indefinite number? I'll level with you. We've avoided White Sand objectives for a while because working with graphic novels, without easy searching, is hard work. But maybe you're sitting there, glowing in the hype of Volume 3, and you just don't know what to do with yourself? Awesome! Help us help you--what are you interested in? We've got some major White Sand articles that are very out of date: Kenton, Khriss, Ais, Baon... We've got a chapter summary page that's totally blank. We've even got brand new, baby pages that need to be written from scratch! (many of which can probably be completed in a single sitting) So just tell us what you're interested in and let's make it happen! Even if you can only add a few lines, anything is a big help. What's in it for me? We want to motivate people to help, so we will be giving out Coppermind awards for the users with the most edits, and we'll also give out awards if you contributed to one of these items. They'll be on your user page for all to see. Don't forget that it's November now, which means NaCoWriMo has begun! That's National Coppermind Writing Month, and--trust me--it's a thing. Those who contribute 25,000 bytes in November will get our prestigious NaCoWriMo award! Here's a look at our top editors from the last two months! Most Contributions 1. Rebeca - 12,553 bytes 2. MistBlessed - 4,254 bytes 3. Alicila - 2,167 bytes 4. Jewishicequeen - 1,766 bytes 5. Reinhartmax - 1,604 bytes Objective Completions 1. Rebeca - 2 Major, 0 Minor 2. Preventer Wind - 0 Major, 1 Minor 3. Kalak - 0 Major, 1 Minor How do I to start? The most important thing is to be bold! Content is hard to write, but we can always format your stuff if it doesn't quite match conventions. MediaWiki notation may appear scary at first, but the best way to learn is through experience. 18. Time for another round of Coppermind objectives! First we need to say a big thank you to everyone who helped out in June and July. We weren't able to get around to several objectives, but we DID have a lot of contributions nonetheless. I wanted to give a special shoutout to Rasarr in particular, who made over 125,000 bytes of contributions! Lots of good work all around, so thank you to everyone who helped. I'm pleased to announce that we've officially crossed the 1 year anniversary for these objectives! We started these in July of last year. The amount of help we have received and the number of new people contributing to the wiki has been so encouraging, so I can't say enough how thankful we are for everyone who has participated so far! We've got some exciting news about the state of the wiki as well... We're only 22 articles away from being 2/3 complete! In other words, if we can get just 22 more articles to a "complete" status, the "complete" articles on the Coppermind will outnumber partials and stubs 2 to 1! This is a HUGE milestone that we're excited to hit in the very near future! We'd love to have your help getting there! As always, we're happy for any help we can get, so don't be shy. If you're new to editing the Coppermind, don't worry; we'll help you out with guides and plenty of assistance. You don't need experience, just the will to help out! We'll also provide awards, because everyone loves fake internet points. Without further ado, here are our objectives for the next two months. Larger Projects Let's start with some larger projects. These objectives will definitely require some research and a good bit of writing. Anyone is welcome to take them--we just don't want you to feel like you've bitten off more than you can chew. 1. Stormseat First up this round is the legendary city of Stormseat...or Narak if you prefer. This ancient city, a capital of one of the Silver Kingdoms, is barely more than a stub. We don't know a lot about the city, so this is going to take a good bit of digging even if the final article won't be particularly massive. Just channel your inner Shallan! 2. Tyn And here's another unfortunate one that's basically a stub. Shallan's tutor only appears in a handful of chapters... But there's certainly a lot more that could be said, and her influence on our Shallan in that short time was tremendous. At the very least we'd like to fill out some basic character sections, like her appearance & personality, history, attributes & abilities, and relationships 3. Fjorden Fjorden might be one of the largest and most powerful nations on one of the most massive planets in the cosmere... Its article, however, might be on the list of the shortest and weakest. I have it on good authority that Wyrn is displeased. Help us appease Jaddeth, or suffer the consequences! 4. Zeen Nightshade Okay, I get it. When you die in the prologue, your article is not going to be in the running for longest character article. But Chaser deserves more than three sentences folks! Let's give Spensa's father the honor and respect he deserves! 5. The Battle of Alta Another major Skyward objective, yep. With Starsight coming out later this year, we'd like to get our Skyward articles cleaned up and ready for more! So far, Battle of Alta mostly just consists of a list of participating pilots. The battle was certainly shrouded in mystery, so it's going to take some work dig in and help clear up what happened! Smaller Tasks These are tasks that are much shorter and involve characters or topics that are minor. But, hey, minor things are important to have done too! Many of these articles are so short that they will not require separate sections. Research should be fairly straight forward. For short articles, include as much as you can possibly find about them. 1. Elend's Attributes & Abilities Time to give some love to MIstborn! Elend's article isn't terrible, but his Attributes & Abilities section needs a lot of help. One of the most powerful Mistborn ever deserves more from us. Let's clear up Elend's talents as well as the extent of his newfound Allomancy. 2. Alonoe Technically another Mistborn opportunity, but this one is really for those of you who eat Cosmere lore for breakfast. Alonoe doesn't get a whole lot of screen time in her Secret History stint, but as a powerful figure in one of the cosmere's most mysterious organizations, we really need to dig deep and get this one in shape. 3. Nightstorm Flight Interested in helping with the Skyward push but don't have time for one of those larger projects? Nightstorm Flight should fit the bill--they only make a few appearances. Great article to get your feet wet with! 4. Spensa's Mother Brandon might have a thing against moms, but we here at the Coppermind don't! She might never be named. She might not play a major role in the book. But there's definitely more that could be said on this mother's page. 5. Tarson How about another Mistborn option? We did Era 1 and Secret History, so let's try an Era 2 option. The koloss-blooded Tarson should have enough content out there for us to fill out some basic character sections. Let's at least give him proper personality & appearance and history sections. What's in it for me? We want to motivate people to help, so we will be giving out Coppermind awards for the users with the most edits, and we'll also give out awards if you contributed to one of these items. They'll be on your user page for all to see. Here's a look at our top editors from the last two months! Most Contributions 1. Rasarr - 127,446 bytes 2. Talenel - 57,199 bytes 3. Stargazer - 21,266 bytes 4. Alicila - 16,540 bytes 5. Thurin - 16,078 bytes Objective Completions 1. Rebeca - 1 Major, 0 Minor 2. Talenel - 0 Major, 3 Minor 3. Rasarr - 0 Major, 2 Minor How do I to start? The most important thing is to be bold! Content is hard to write, but we can always format your stuff if it doesn't quite match conventions. MediaWiki notation may appear scary at first, but the best way to learn is through experience. If you're interested, we have lots of guides to help: Help:Contents. 19. Time for another round of Coppermind objectives! First we need to say a big thank you to everyone who helped out in April and May. We got a lot done, with help from long-time users and new editors alike. I wanted to give a special shoutout to Stargazer in particular, who showed up in mid-April and ended up in the top of the pack on both objective completions and total contributions! Lots of good work all around, so thank you to everyone who helped. In other news, we've officially reached the lowest stub count in the history of the wiki! This is a huge milestone for us, and we're ecstatic! Thanks for the hard work, folks. Let's keep it up! One more round to go and we'll be hitting our one year anniversary for these objectives! As always, we're happy for any help we can get, so don't be shy. If you're new to editing the Coppermind, don't worry; we'll help you out with guides and plenty of assistance. You don't need experience, just the will to help out! We'll also provide awards, because everyone loves fake internet points. Without further ado, here are our objectives for June and July. Larger Projects Let's start with some larger projects. These objectives will definitely require some research and a good bit of writing. Anyone is welcome to take them--we just don't want you to feel like you've bitten off more than you can chew. 1. Vin's Relationships First up this round is our beloved Vin. We like to have a "Relationships" section on our character pages, which covers their relationships with the significant people in their lives. Vin's article has a gaping hole where this section belongs! We would like to cover her relationships with Elend, Kelsier, and Sazed, though you're welcome to add more! Let us know if you need help getting started on this. 2. Steris Here's another Mistborn favorite, though you wouldn't know it from her article. We've been neglecting her worse than Wax apparently. We could use your help fleshing out Steris's History section. It would also be good to start a Relationships section that covers Wax and Marasi. 3. Syl's History Stormlight Archive time! Syl is one of the most loveable and important spren on Roshar. Her history section, however, hasn't been touched since Kaladin swore his second Ideal in The Way of Kings... What more is there to say? We don't need a history book written about her, but we need something! 4. Lukel So I'm flipping through some Elantris articles and started to think Raoden/Sarene's group of conspirators might collectively make for a fantastic objective. Then I opened up Lukel's page and found little more than a bullet point outline of this major Elantris character. Anyone want to flesh this article out? 5. Allik Neverfar One more Mistborn character to choose from! The Southern Scadrians might mostly be an enigma still, but this delightful character is a familiar facce. Or a familiar mask, at least. This article needs a bit of work all around. Smaller Tasks These are tasks that are much shorter and involve characters or topics that are minor. But, hey, minor things are important to have done too! Many of these articles are so short that they will not require separate sections. Research should be fairly straight forward. For short articles, include as much as you can possibly find about them. 1. Lift's Oathbringer History Here's a pretty Awesome objective that should be straightforward. Lift doesn't play a tremendous role in Oathbringer, but she definitely did more than the single sentence in her history section tells of! She still hasn't been updated for Oathbringer! Let's fix that. 2. Susebron Susebron is one of the most Invested individuals in the cosmere, but his Attributes and Abilities section is nonexistant. If that doesn't make you see red I don't know what will. See the equivalent section on Vasher's page as a starting point. It would also be nice to add a section about his relationship with Siri. Double credit if you can do both, but either would be a big help. 3. Eshonai's Relationships With Eshonai's flashbacks being written now (like seriously, maybe at this very moment!) it's important for us to make sure this Shardbearer's article is ready to go for the next book. She needs a Relationships section, that covers (at least) her relationships with Venli and her mother. 4. Dusk In honor of the recent news about progress on the Sixth of the Dusk sequel, this seems like a good time to polish up the Eelakin trapper's own article. He's got a pretty solid history section, but the rest of the article could use some love still. While he has no magic of his own, Dusk has plenty of abilities worth noting. His appearance and his relationship with Vathi could also use some attention. 5. M-Bot's History Let's wrap up with a non-Cosmere favorite? M-Bot's history is off to a good start, but it could use some fleshing out. And most of the information presently there is uncited. We'd love some help cleaning this up! What's in it for me? We want to motivate people to help, so we will be giving out Coppermind awards for the users in the coming months with the most edits, and we'll also give out awards if you contributed to one of these items. They'll be on your user page for all to see. Here's a look at our top editors from the last month! Most Contributions 1. Ammcclain15 - 37,053 bytes 2. Thurin - 33,465 bytes 3. Stargazer - 25,400 bytes 4. Alicila - 22,190 bytes 5. Ladymxdnight - 7,615 bytes Objective Completions 1. Stargazer - 1 Major, 2 Minor 2. Rebeca - 1 Major, 1 Minor 3. Rasarr - 1 Major, 0 Minor How do I to start? The most important thing is to be bold! Content is hard to write, but we can always format your stuff if it doesn't quite match conventions. MediaWiki notation may appear scary at first, but the best way to learn is through experience. If you're interested, we have lots of guides to help: Help:Contents. It does very much help to have ebooks so you can find instances of a specific word or person. (This is extremely helpful for minor characters). If you have physical books, ask us and we can help you determine this so you don't need to reread the whole text. We can also direct you towards some good articles to use as a go-by. 20. It's that time again! Objective time! First we need to say a bit thank you to everyone who helped out in February and March. We completed almost ALL of our objectives the last round, and the work done was first class. Seriously guys, have you seen this new Tindwyl page updated by Ladymxdnight? And solid objective completions aren't the only big news. You may not check out the Editor's Corner very often, but we hit a new milestone on our "Complete to Stub Ratio." We now have 3 fully complete articles for every lowly stub on the Coppermind! In fact, with just a few more stubs updated we will officially have the lowest stub count in the history of the wiki! Thanks for the hard work, folks! As always, we're happy for any help we can get, so don't be shy. If you're new to editing the Coppermind, don't worry; we'll help you out with guides and plenty of assistance. You don't need experience, just the will to help out! We'll also provide awards, because everyone loves fake internet points. Without further ado, here are our objectives for April and May. Larger Projects Let's start with some larger projects. These objectives will definitely require some research and a good bit of writing. Anyone is welcome to take them--we just don't want you to feel like you've bitten off more than you can chew. 1. Edwarn Ladrian First up this round is Mister Suit! Edwarn's personality and appearance section is currently non-existent, and his history could use some expansion. Can't have Mr. Ladrian serving in another realm without a good Coppermind article behind him. 2. Allrianne's History More Mistborn? Sure! More Ladrians? Why not! Wax's great great great-something grandmother is completely lacking a history section. We'd love to have your help filling in what her role was. 3. Jah Keved In the words of @thegatorgirl00 "Jah Keved is absolute trash." Here I am thinking she's talking about the state of the nation after their war. That was before I opened the article and realized it has been edited maybe a dozen times since Words of Radiance was released... Oof. Can we blame the state of this article on Nergaoul as well? This one needs some serious love folks. 4. T'Telir The capital city of Hallandren currently has no structural organization whatsoever. Check out some other good city articles for a breath of inspiration (heh). Let's work out a better structure and then see if we can fill in some gaps. 5. Judy Ivans Need a little break from the Cosmere? Ironsides' article only has a single sentence at the moment. Let's at least give her a Personality/Appearance and a History section. Smaller Tasks These are tasks that are much shorter and involve characters or topics that are minor. But, hey, minor things are important to have done too! Many of these articles are so short that they will not require separate sections. Research should be fairly straight forward. For short articles, include as much as you can possibly find about them. 1. Mercystar A few months back we checked off most of the minor Returned articles. Mercystar was a bit too complicated to be included at the time, but she shouldn't be too hard to finish off. Any help would be appreciated! 2. Chickens Yes, chickens. You read that right! The Rosharan variety of course. Or, well, varieties. These beautiful (and tasty) creatures have their very own page! But it needs some more attention. 3. Stephen Leeds' Aspects With Lies of the Beholder out, the Legion articles are ripe for completion! Several of Stephen Leeds' aspects are still "stubs" unfortunately, and we could use some help getting those polished off. They include: Audrey, Armando, Kalyani, and Turquoise. 4. Queen Tsa Who doesn't enjoy a good myth as told by Hoid? He gave us a briliant new story in Oathbringer which you can find on Tsa's page... Or, well, that's where it should be. We'd appreciate if you could help us update this page with what we know about the Nathan queen and myth surrounding her. 5. Becca Nightshade (Gran-Gran) Hoid isn't the only one with a good story! Spensa's Gran-Gran had some good tales of her own, but right now her article is a lowly stub that could really use some work. Ladymxdnight - 112,756 bytes 2. Big Smooth - 60,244 bytes 3. Thurin - 28,076 bytes 4. Ammcclain15 - 18,762 bytes 5. Rebeca - 17,468 bytes Objective Completions 1. Rebeca - 2 Major, 1 Minor 2. Ladymxdnight - 1 Major, 1 Minor 3. Dantlee, Da.mammoth, and Big Smooth - 1 Major, 0 Minor How do I to start? The most important thing is to be bold! Content is hard to write, but we can always format your stuff if it doesn't quite match conventions. MediaWiki notation may appear scary at first, but the best way to learn is through experience. If you're interested, we have lots of guides to help: Help:Contents. It does very much help to have ebooks so you can find instances of a specific word or person. 21. A little late, but we're finally back with another set of Coppermind objectives! What better way to spend a cold winter day than snuggled up with a blanket, hot cocoa, and an article to write? We had some awesome editors chugging away over the holidays, and got a lot done. We got a good start on Skyward while continuing to chip away at some Cosmere articles that have long needed attention. We'll be continuing that through March! Before getting into the new objectives, let's give a big hand to Rebeca, Big Smooth, and Rasarr, who helped knock out some of our major objectives over the last two months, such as Ialai Sadeas, the Horneater Peaks, and Jorgen. Others who contributed a lot are credited below. Without further ado, here are our objectives for February and March. Larger Projects Let's start with some larger projects. These objectives will definitely require some research and a good bit of writing. Anyone is welcome to take them--we just don't want you to feel like you've bitten off more than you can chew. 1. Cobb's History Captain Cobb is one of the most important figures in Brandon's latest book, but his article is still a stub. Let's flesh out Mongrel's history this month--both his backstory and his role during the events of Skyward. 2. Coup of Urteau The Coup of Urteau was a major focus of Hero of Ages, and yet the page currently consists of a single paragraph. Our coverage of Mistborn Era 1 is spotty, but this one is a particularly sad oversight. Anything you can do to help fill out what happened in Urteau would be a big help! 3. Eventeo Sarene's father, King Eventeo, is another article that's much shorter than it ought to be. He made a limited number of appearances in Elantris, which should make the research on this one relatively straightforward. 4. Terris History and Culture The Terris people played a significant role in the story of Mistborn before and after the Ascension of the Lord Ruler. Their history and culture in particular are very rich, but the article is far too brief. Let's try to at least cover the history and culture sections of these interesting people. 5. Natanatan Details on Natanatan are sparse, but we definitely know a lot more about these people than the article currently reveals. We could use your help updating this article for Oathbringer, as well as making sure it has captured everything we know from the previous Stormlight Archive books. 6. Palona And here's another important article that still hasn't even been updated for Oathbringer. It's clearly missing some info from Words of Radiance as well. Let's at least get that Appearance and Personality section filled out, along with a more thorough and updated History. Smaller Tasks These are tasks that are much shorter and involve characters or topics that are minor. But, hey, minor things are important to have done too! Many of these articles are so short that they will not require separate sections. Research should be fairly straight forward. For short articles, include as much as you can possibly find about them. 1. Gemmel Aside from a few mentions here or there, this will mainly take you into Eleventh Metal. As important as Kelsier is to the Mistborn story, his teacher deserves a bit more attention than he's received so far! 2. Khlennium Home of Alendi, this classical Scadrian nation was incredibly influential. Let's dig all of the details up and get this article completed! 3. Order of Talenelat No, there's not an 11th order of Knights Radiant. This is one of the Vorin devotaries--Dalinar's own, in fact. This one should be relatively easy to mark complete. 4. Sela Tales And here's another ancient kingdom--this time on Roshar. The Purelake may not seem like much these days, but it was once ruled by a Silver Kingdom if you can believe it. We could use your help getting this article updated for Oathbringer. 5. Sheler This nominee for "Most Random Oathbringer Interlude" could use a bit of fleshing out. After his encounter with the hog, it seems unlikely that we'll be seeing him again. It always feels good to mark an article complete knowing that it will probably stay that way! 6. Tenasi Agreement Got an itch to help with something non-cosmere? Couldn't get enough Skyward? Take a moment to read Defending Elysium and help us elaborate on the Tenasi Agreement! I'll be honest--I have no clue what it is... And the article is only slightly more helpful than the title itself! Let's change that. Norlick27 - 50,727 bytes 2. Big Smooth - 45,779 bytes 3. Reinhartmax - 34,023 bytes 4. Rasarr - 32,463 bytes 5. Ammcclain15 - 18,128 bytes Objective Completions 1. Rebeca - 1 Major, 1 Minor 2. Big Smooth & Rasarr - 1 Major, 0 Minor 3. Messydesk, Ladymxdnight , and MountainKing- 0 Major, 1 Minor How do I to start? The most important thing is to be bold! Content is hard to write, but we can always format your stuff if it doesn't quite match conventions. MediaWiki notation may appear scary at first, but the best way to learn is through experience. 22. I was trying to add a note that the current highprince of the Sadeas pricedom (Amaram) is dead. When I saved the changes, the note was there, but 1/2 of the page disappeared. Is there a way to undo this? If not, can I see what used to be there? It also is not appearing the the long list of pages (the one you see after you click Stormlight Archive on the front page), but it does appear in the "Subcategories" area (above the page list). The link though, does not appear in the Highprinces subcategory. Other links like that on the Alethkar page are there and work.
  23. Happy holidays! We're back with another set of Coppermind objectives! What better way to enjoy the holidays than to complete a Coppermind objective or two?! We've seen a lot of great work done since we began posting these objectives. Now that we're off to a good start, we're going to slow that pace down just a bit. So if you didn't read the title for some reason, we're going to keep these objectives up for two months before putting up a new batch. Take your time and enjoy yourself! Before getting into the new objectives, let's give a big hand to Ammcclain15, LadyLameness, Norlick, and Big Smooth for making over 25,000 bytes of edits in November. They've all earned a special award for their participation in National Novel Coppermind Writing Month! A shoutout is also deserved for Messydesk's good work on VenDell and Rebeca's great update on Vasher! Thanks for the hard work, folks! We're continuing the initiative this month, with a brand new set of objectives. As always, we're happy for any help we can get, so don't be shy. If you're new to editing the Coppermind, don't worry; we'll help you out with guides and plenty of assistance. You don't need experience, just the will to help out! We'll also provide awards, because everyone loves fake internet points. Without further ado, here are our objectives for December and January. November brought with it the release of Skyward. A number of awesome editors have helped get these articles moving, but we're going to put an emphasis on these for this set of objectives to keep it moving. If you're more of a cosmere person, have no fear! We've also got several wintery, holiday-themed cosmere articles that need attention! Larger Projects Let's start with some larger projects. These objectives will definitely require some research and a good bit of writing. Anyone is welcome to take them--we just don't want you to feel like you've bitten off more than you can chew. 1. Skyward Flight members Most of the members of Skyward Flight need more work still. Some of them like, Spensa or Jorgen, just need a section or two beefed up, while others are mere stubs. Note that you don't have to claim ALL of these, if you're interested. Skyward Flight members include: Spensa, Jorgen, Nedd, Kimmalyn, FM, Bim, Rig, Hurl, Arturo, and Morningtide 2. M-Bot Humans aren't the only one who deserve attention. M-Bot's article is off to a good start, but it could use a History section at the least. 3. DDF Flight School Want to try something other than a character? We've got you covered. We spend most of a book following a bunch of students in Flight School, but this article is still a stub. We'd like to see it filled in with everything involved--acceptance, schooling, training, and graduation. 4. Vorinism Not particularly interested in Skyward? Have no fear, we've got plenty more cosmere work that needs to be done. Vorinism still hasn't been properly updated since the Oathbringer release. We wouldn't want to leave out the Vorins this holiday season, right? This one will take a lot of research, so be sure to drop by on Discord if you need help digging up relevant info. 5. Ialai Sadeas Not interested in Skyward AND think the holiday theme is dumb? You might be a Grinch, which means we've got just the article for you! She loves crushing dreams and complaining, and her heart is clearly two sizes too small. You should enjoy reading up on Ialai and giving her a significant update. The article right now is barely more than a stub, and primarily needs a History section. Smaller Tasks These are tasks that are much shorter and involve characters or topics that are minor. But, hey, minor things are important to have done too! Many of these articles are so short that they will not require separate sections. Research should be fairly straight forward. For short articles, include as much as you can possibly find about them. 1. Ranette She's probably not full of Christmas spirit, but if you're a Scadrian lawman one of her inventions is probably at the top of your wish list. Ranette's article could use a bit of attention, particularly with regard to a proper History section. We have relatively limited information on her, so the research shouldn't be too tricky on this one. 2. The Sovereign's temple So it's not exactly Santa's workshop, but it is covered in snow and it did hide a very special gift. Too much of a stretch? Well, regardless, we would appreciate if someone could dig into the final chapters of Bands of Mourning and flesh out what we know of this temple. 3. Horneater Peaks Know what else is covered in snow? The Horneater Peaks! What could be more in-season than making snow forts? There's not a lot of new information here, but this article could use an Oathbringer update. 4. Lifebuster Back to a few more Skyward things? (No, you definitely shouldn't gift anybody with a lifebuster this year.) Here's a fun little stub that shouldn't be hard for someone to carry to completion! 5. DDF Starships One more set of Skyward articles that need attention. These don't even have articles yet! Let's at least get some basic information in on the three basic DDF ships: the Poco, the Largo, and the Scout. If you've never started an article from scratch, just ask for some help on Discord and we'll set you up. Ammcclain15 - 53,849 bytes 2. Norlick27 - 32,974 bytes 3. Big Smooth - 28,703 bytes 4. Reinhartmax - 13,785 bytes 5. Rebeca - 7,466 bytes Objective Completions 1. Rebeca & Messydesk - 1 Major, 0 Minor 2. Big Smooth & Thurin - 0 Major, 1 Minor How do I to start? The most important thing is to be bold! Content is hard to write, but we can always format your stuff if it doesn't quite match conventions. MediaWiki notation may appear scary at first, but the best way to learn is through experience. If you're interested, we have lots of guides to help: Help:Contents. 24. We're back with another set of Coppermind objectives! We've made some terrific progress on all things Stormlight Archive since Oathbringer released nearly one year ago, and much of the thanks for this goes to all of you who chipped in on objectives--both big and small--over the last few months. Some highlights from the last batch includes an update on all of Shallan's guards, the magnificent Queen Fen, continued updates to Kaladin and Bridge Four, and a few of the more notable spren. There were many people who deserve a shout out, but we especially want to recognize those who completed the most objectives. These include Rebeca (too many things to list), SpaceGodPerson (several of Shallan's guards), Amanda (Kaladin and Bridge Four), and Ladymxdnight (for a few spren). If you haven't heard, this is a particularly special month: it's NaCoWriMo! You heard me, it's National Novel Coppermind Writing Month! That's a thing, right? Well, maybe you've got a friend participating in NaNoWriMo, but writing a 50 thousand word novel in a month isn't your thing. We're here for you! We think more in terms of bytes rather than words of course, so anyone who contributes 50 thousand bytes (roughly 5 thousand words) in the month of November will get a super special NaCoWriMo award! Without further ado, here are our objectives for November. If you find something you'd like to help with, claim it here, and let us know if you have any questions! If nothing in the list below catches your eye, there are leftover objectives from previous months up for grabs in the claim spreadsheet. If you sign up for something, please say hi on Discord so that we can offer support and touch base with you! Larger Projects Let's start with some larger projects. These objectives will definitely require some research and a good bit of writing. Anyone is welcome to take them--we just don't want you to feel like you've bitten off more than you can chew. 1. Vasher Vasher is one of the most interesting figures in the cosmere, and so there's naturally a LOT to say about him. His article particularly needs work done on the History section, though the whole thing needs a general facelift. This will require a lot of research! 2. Spook What better way to cap off your Halloween festivities than to work on the article for Spook?! His history section is short and the other major sections on his page are practically non-existent. Don't make the mistake of ignoring this guy! Spook deserves better! 3. Yeden If you thought Spook was the most overlooked member of Kelsier's crew, then you're probably forgetting about Yeden. Yeah, that guy was technically part of the crew too! Comes as no surprise that his article is mostly forgotten as well! The research on Yeden should be fairly straight forward, so this will mostly be a matter of fleshing out what's there. 4. Tindwyl This remarkable Terriswoman played a key role in Well of Ascension, and she deserves more credit for it than we're giving her. If you're a Tindwyl fan we could definitely use your help expanding her article. 5. VenDell This notable kandra doesn't make many appearances, but he plays an important role in Bands of Mourning and there's much more that needs to be said about him. If Era 2 Mistborn is more your speed then this character is a great option. 6. Pahn Kahl rebellion Let's change gears from Mistborn back to Warbreaker. The Pahn Kahl rebellion refers to the secret rebellion at the heart of Warbreaker's plot, and the article is… rough. We would really like to see a Bold individual Return to this article and write out the full narrative events of the rebellion. Smaller Tasks These are tasks that are much shorter and involve characters or topics that are minor. But, hey, minor things are important to have done too! Many of these articles are so short that they will not require separate sections. Research should be fairly straight forward. For short articles, include as much as you can possibly find about them. 1. Leshwi Sad to see so few Stormlight objectives? Here's your moment! Leshwi appears to be one of the more important Fused, especially for the ways she intersects with Moash, but she hasn't received much attention. We'd like to flesh her article out a bit more and get it out of stub status. 2. Gavinor This poor kid lost both of his parents and his throne in Oathbringer. Least we could do is give him a proper article, right? If you're the kind of person who feels like swears directed at Moash aren't good enough, this might be your next step. 3. Ien Ien didn't play a major role in Elantris, but there's more to say than the few lines we have. Raoden's faithful Seon deserves some more love. 4. Mare Mare is another Mistborn Era 1 character who hasn't seen much attention in far too long. We don't know a lot about her, but the article could definitely use some expansion. What's in it for me? We want to motivate people to help, so we will be giving out Coppermind awards for the users in November with the most edits, and we'll also give out awards if you contributed to one of these items. They'll be on your user page for all to see. This month there's also the esteemed NaCoWriMo award up for grabs! Here's a look at our top editors from the last two months! Most Contributions 1. LadyLameness - 37,592 bytes 2. Big Smooth - 34,905 bytes 3. Rebeca - 24,535 bytes 4. SpaceGodPerson - 20,961 bytes 5. Reinhartmax - 17,353 bytes And a shoutout to Ammcclain15 and Xnkvbo, who both contributed extensively and just missed the top 5 cut-off. Objective Completions 1. Rebeca - 1 Major, 5 Minor 2. SpaceGodPerson - 1 Major, 1 Minor 3. Ammcclain15 & Ladymxdnight - 0 Major, 2 Minor How do I to start?
  25. Between moves, job changes, new universities, and a baby, the Coppermind staff had a pretty busy August… And yet it was a month full of terrific progress thanks to all of you! The hard work you've put in to help us reach our objectives is much appreciated! Some highlights from August include the completion of Navani, a group effort to update the Diagram and several of its members, and a wrap-up of several minor Returned. There were many people who deserve a shout out, but we especially want to recognize those who completed the most objectives. These include Rebeca (Navani's history, among others), NotAStick (several of the Returned, and Lizbusby (for the Diagram and Graves). So, here are our objectives for September. If you find something you'd like to help with, claim it here, and let us know if you have any questions! If you sign up for something, please say hi on Discord so that we can offer support and touch base with you later this month! Larger Projects Let's start with some larger projects. These objectives will definitely require some research and a good bit of writing. Anyone is welcome to take them--we just don't want you to feel like you've bitten off more than you can chew. 1. Shattered Plains Featuring prominently in the first two Stormlight Archive books, this remarkable setting could use quite a bit of work. It will need some big changes, both in structure and content. On the bright side, the new content from Oathbringer isn't overwhelming, and when we get this updated it should be relatively easy to maintain from here on out. 2. Queen Fen This fiery monarch is one of the key political figures on Roshar these days, with an important position in the coalition. Her article is, unfortunately, merely a stub. We'd really appreciate some help getting more content in, particularly for her Appearance & Personality and her History. 3. Urithiru The Urithiru article was primarily written when it was nothing more to us than a mythical city of unknown location. With Oathbringer behind us, there's so much more to tell. We've got a living, breathing city on our hands (seriously, the thing has veins) that's only going to be more important moving forward. Let's get this one in shape. 4. Stormlight It's in the very name of the series we're dealing with her, and it (unsurprisingly) plays a very important role in both the world and the story. The article, however, is barely more than a stub. We could really use your help fleshing out what Stormlight is and how it works. 5. Shallan's guards They might not be Bridge Four, but this band of misfits aren't out of the story yet. These all vary in how much work needs to be done: from Vathah, our new Lightweaver squire with lots of OB screen time, to the barely mentioned Glurv. These include: Vathah, Red, Gaz, Shob, and Glurv. Smaller Tasks These are tasks that are much shorter and involve characters or topics that are minor. But, hey, minor things are important to have done too! Many of these articles are so short that they will not require separate sections. Research should be fairly straight forward. For short articles, include as much as you can possibly find about them. 1. Jasnah's pen pals These two scholars don't get a lot of screen time, but they're interesting people with loads of personality. How can you not be, if you hang out with Jasnah? They are: Jochi and Ethid. 2. Sons of Honor This important secret society is pulling all kinds of strings on Roshar. Though they're mostly still a mystery, we did get a few tidbits from Oathbringer. We'd love your help making sure these insights have been incorporated. 3. Yanagawn (Gawx) We admittedly don't know a whole lot about this young ruler, but he's basically emperor over one third of the continent. Short of Dalinar (who's cheating big time), this kid is arguably the most influential and important person on Roshar. Shouldn't take too much to get him up to date. 4. Leshwi Leshwi appears to be one of the more important Fused, especially for the ways she intersects with Moash, but she hasn't received much attention. We'd like to flesh her article out a bit more and get it out of stub status. 5. Kiin's children Getting tired of Stormlight Archive? Here's something from another part of the cosmere. The Elantris sequel will be here before we know it, and Brandon has said that it will feature this pair. Their articles right now could use a bit of love, so let's go ahead and polish them off. They are: Kaise and Daorn. Awards We want to motivate people to help, so we will be giving out Coppermind awards for the users this month with the most edits, and we'll also give out awards if you contributed to one of these items. They'll be on your user page for all to see! Here's a look at our top editors from last month! Most Contributions 1. LadyLameness - 63,601 bytes 2. Ammcclain15 - 19,784 bytes 3. Lizbusby - 1 Major, 1 Minor How do I to start?
