  1. So, let’s say that I, already in possession of the powers of Allomantic and Feruchemocal Nicrosil, were then given a steel spike, Hemalurgically charged with Allomantic Pewter. If if I were to place this spike in my ear, and then to store the investiture it endows me with inside a nicrosilmind, would removing the hemalurgic spike then still remove the power to burn pewter from me? If I were to place only a tiny, tiny piece of that pewter investiture within a nicrosilmind, and then to burn that nicrosilmind (lather, rinse, compound), could I then remove that spike from my ear, passing it along to someone else for free pewter, while retaining supernatural levels of pewter burning in myself? Or would this spike prevent me from storing such Investiture? Would it still remove it altogether, seeing that investiture as keyed and attached to the spike? If I were to compound and the remove that spike, and such removal took away my pewter, would the next wielder of my spike have supernaturally strong pewter? I would love to be able to throw people to the moon, but I’m unsure whether I’d like to murder someone on a potentially failed attempt to gain such abilities. Thoughts?

    Copper Compunding -Vividity

Hi, I’m new and have no idea what I’m doing. Throughout the first Mistborn trilogy, we experienced Sazed’s relationship with his copperminds. He used indices and pnemonics to keep track of his memory sets within his metalminds, and we often saw him drawing on the contained memories for their information stores. However, we never saw him experience a memory in such detail as the Sovereign memory Wax experienced through the unkeyed coppermind coin in The Bands of Mourning. Perhaps this is a result of Sazed’s past experience reliving memories, or perhaps simply convenience in writing. Or perhaps the extreme experiential vividity of this memory is a result of compounded copper from the coin’s doubly-endowed creator. Perhaps compounding copper allows for the creation of super-vivid memories, not only never fading as Sazed’s did in his everyday coppermind, but also existing with photorealistic detail. Any copper compounding theory likely has to deal with the Lord Ruler’s purported “perfect memory,” which assuredly was the result of this sort of magihacking. Perhaps these ultra-strong memories are more easily divided among multiple copperminds, or a portion of them is able to be recalled and another portion left for when necessary, within the indexed, magically-enhanced mind palace of a worldbringer, keeper, etc. Anyway, a bit rambly, but there it is. Perhaps Wax’s coin demonstrates the nature of compounded copper.
  3. To my understanding, the way healing works in the Cosmere reverts oneself to their perceived cognitive self. This is why Kaladin's brands don't heal, yet Lopen's arm grows back. With gold feruchemy, it would seem like one would still age. Their stored up health can only heal them so far, and their cognitive self would age. However, if one was able to have an absurd amount of healing, like a gold compounder such as Miles Hundredlives, AND they considered themselves immortal, would they age? I feel it is a reasonable inference to say Miles thinks himself immortal, considering his mentality seen in Mistborn, especially after he mentally moves beyond pain itself. If he imagined himself at a consistent age, believing that his healing prevented him from aging, and he always had copious, near infinite, amounts of healing readily available, I think he would achieve immortality. Plus, I feel like adding hemalurgy into the mix would only increase his already insane healing abilities, especially if he had a Trell spike that had some sort of power along the lines of healing. Thoughts?
  4. So, what, in your opinion, is the strongest Compounder combatively, and why? I personally can't decide between Atium, and Chromium. Either one is practically unkillable, and if they attack you, you have practically no way to fight back. Originally my list of strongest included Gold and Steel, but I decided that Gold was out because it didn't have very good offensive capabilities and I cut Steel because you could easily be killed from behind in an ambush.
  5. Hi guys. I have some really deep mistborn questions and im sure you guys do to si i decided to make a dep mistborn Q&A thread. Feel free to ask questions and answer questions but please only deep good quality questions. Thanks
  6. Per WoB, "Well, the Lord Ruler--don't forget--could compound any Allomancy he wanted." Did Brandon mean to say that TLR could compound Feruchemy, or is it true that TLR could compound alomancy? If so, would that be referring to Feruchemical Nicrosil usage? I'm a bit confused, because as far as I can remember we don't have a known mechanic to traditionally compound allomantic abilities.
  7. What does copper compounding do? I don't think it's actually been mentioned, so if it hasn't feel free to speculate. Since copper stores memories that will then no longer for in your brain, might burning a coppermind permanently engrave them in your mind so you remember them perfectly but don't have to forget them temporarily to preserve them? Would those memories be corruptible by Ruin?
  8. What type of twinborn would you like to be? Personally, I would like to be a chromium compounder, as then I would be able to be really lucky (Jackpot!). earning £10m every time I do the lottery. Lol, that would be so funny... Although gold compounder would be pretty good too... To see the full list of feruchemical and allomantic abilities, see the metal magic quick reference chart I made down below, or go to coppermind.net to find it. Mostly, I'm talking about compounders, but just about anything could be possible. Actually, being a lerasium allomancer and a soulbearer ferring would make your allomancy really strong... But that's just my thoughts. What do you think? Ars Arcanum Metal Magic Quick Reference Chart.docx
  9. The theory is straight forward. An allomancer can burn an unsealed/indentitiless metalmind that corresponds to a metal that they can burn regardless of any feruchemical ability. In support of this, I point out that Vin could sense Sazed's metalminds as if they were another allomatic reserve, but she was unable to burn them. I think that this was because the metalminds were locked to Sazed's identity. However the unsealed metalminds by the south scandrialians can be used by any one with the ability to use them. This, I believe, includes allomancers. This means that Wax would be able to burn steel metalminds filled with physical speed,Wayne would be able to burn bendalloy metalminds filled with nutrition. and Marasi would be able to burn cadmium metalminds filled with breath. This opens up some intriguing possibilities as the medallions and their manufacture spread to the north.
  10. Guys, what, exactly, is the benefit of compounding copper? Memories, unlike something such as strength, are incredibly specific, so compounding them has no real benefit (from what I can see)
  11. This forum is mainly a response to the thread entitled "Compounding Mechanics", posted by 18th Shard. Here is the link: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/4633-compounding-mechanics/#comment-74496 In that post, 18th Shard theorizes about the mechanics of the magic system and proposes the following possible forms of compounding: Allomancy powering Feruchemy Feruchemy powering Allomancy Allomancy powering Hemalurgy Feruchemy powering Hemalurgy Hemalurgy powering Feruchemy Hemalurgy powering Allomancy This post will cover my personal opinions on the mechanics of these systems as well as the mechanics of the possible compounding types. Feel free to make comments on my theories, propose your own ideas, and mention anything that you believe that I missed. Check out the above link for the mechanics proposed by 18th Shard in his post. First, we have Allomancy powering Feruchemy, or what I call AlloFeru compounding. This type of compounding has been directly proven by the novel, and was used by the Lord Ruler in the first Mistborn novel as well as Miles Hundredlives from the Alloy of Law novel to gain feruchemical power 10x that of the amount stored inside a metalmind by burning it allomantically. I am going over this one because there were debates on how it works. Some people argue that allomancy is merely magnifying the feruchemical effect, but I don't think this is the case. I believe that the feruchemical charge is a filter for the investiture typically gained while burning a metal. So burning a metalmind gives you the same amount of power usually gained from allomantically burning a metal, but in the form of feruchemical power. Also, you only gain the feruchemical effect while burning a metalmind, none of the allomantic effects, so the feruchemical charge in essence creates a new allomantic metal that gives a feruchemical attribute. In a way, the steel without feruchemical charges already has a filter for the investiture, simply by being the right alloy to be an allomantic metal. Let's say, for example, that steel has an innate filter of 0.1 allomantic "charge" (steelpushing) per gram of steel. When burned, investiture is taken from the power of Preservation, and because of the end-positive nature of allomancy, the power is used through the filter, resulting in 10x the power of the filter, in this case 1 allomantic charge per gram. If I were to instead feruchemically invest that piece of steel with 1 feruchemical "charge" (speed) per gram, the steel would adopt the new filter instead, overwriting the original allomantic filter. However, allomancy is still end-positive, so when the steel with the feruchemical filter is burned, the investiture output still results in 10x the power of the filter, or 10 "charges" of speed per gram in this case. I believe the filters and charges for the metals has to do with how the metal views itself in the Cognitive Realm, but that gets into Realmatic Theory, and I am not very experienced in that subject. Next, Feruchemy powering Allomancy, or FeruAllo compounding, seems the most likely other than the already existing AlloFeru compounding. This is the type of compounding that I believe that the Lord Ruler used to drastically increase his Allomantic ability. The original idea proposed for FeruAllo compounding in the post is that you can burn an allomantic metal, then somehow store the allomantic ability in a metalmind instead of using it instantly. This would be beneficial so that the allomantic power could be tapped at much higher rates than possible with normal allomancy for greater power. The difficulty with this theory is that there is no known way to store allomantic power. The first theory presented on the forum argued that because AlloFeru compounding only required that a metalborn be a misting and a ferring in the same metal, the same should be true for FeruAllo compounding. They believed that a metal can store two things: both its feruchemical and allomantic powers. I do not personally support this theory because I feel that AlloFeru compounding works by using both the mechanics of Allomancy and Feruchemy, not by breaking those rules. In Allomancy, one can burn a specific metal and the investiture of Preservation gives them an ability, they are not burning a specific trait or ability, while in Feruchemy they are storing a trait, not a specific metal. So, AlloFeru compounding works because an allomancer can burn the metal independent of what feruchemical traits are attached to that metal, but FeruAllo compounding does not work this way because a feruchemist can only store the specific trait, they cannot store the allomantic abilities that can come from burning that metal. The second theory was that allomantic abilities could be burned and stored by a feruchemist in a nicrosilmind because nicrosil stores investiture. This seemed the most likely to me at first, but when Sanderson released BoM, nicrosil was used in a different way, though I suppose this method could still be possible using a metal with an unknown feruchemical ability (feruchemical lerasium?). The alternate theory that I came up with, which seems the most reasonable to me, has some BoM spoilers so... It is at this point that we get into the more complicated types of compounding, mostly due to the fact that Hemalurgy comes into play. The idea behind Allomancy powering Hemalurgy (AlloHema) is that an allomancer spikes someone to steal a trait from them, then burns that spike, giving the allomancer the stolen trait with increased power. The downside to this is that because the allomancer burns the spike, they gain the trait only as long as they are burning the spike. This theory is somewhat likely, but I believe that there is a slight problem. Similar to when an allomancer burns a metalmind that isn't theirs, the allomancer in this case may be locked out of the power within the spike because it isn't attuned to their spiritweb. The way I see it, there are two different ways to get around this. First, an allomancer could burn a hemalurgic spike that stole an ability from them. The problems with this are that they most likely died from having that part of their spiritweb ripped from the rest of them (though it is possible that they survived), and their spiritweb may not actually be attuned to the ability because that part of their spiritweb was stolen from them. This would also not be very beneficial to them. By burning that spike, they would get increased power for a short time, but as soon as the metal of the spike was gone, they would have lost that ability forever. The other way I see to bypass this is for an allomancer to steal the trait from another person, then spike themself so that the power in the spike is part of their spiritweb. Sanderson has mentioned before that inquisitors could have theoretically burned their eye spikes, but it would have been extremely painful and would have knocked them unconscious. It would most likely be painful because the inquisitor would be burning away part of their spiritweb, ripping it away from them, similar to the way that traits are stolen during Hemalurgy. However, if one could somehow find a way to get rid of or tolerate the pain, they would be able to access the trait given to them by the spike with increased power, even though it would only last as long as they burned the spike. However, it may be impossible to get over the pain, making this form of compounding basically useless. One interesting interaction I thought about was using this form of compounding with, for example, a steel spike granting allomantic steel. By burning the spike, you increase the allomantic power of your steel, which increases the power with which you burn the steel spike, increasing the power again, repeating over and over again almost instantly giving the user infinitely powerful steel allomancy. If this is possible, it would only be possible with metals that could grant their own allomantic ability, such as steel, bronze, aluminum (inert), atium, and one other unknown allomantic temporal metal (not gold- most likely cadmium). The possibilities with these metals (except aluminum) are all interesting; let me know what you think. Next is Feruchemy powering Hemalurgy (FeruHema), where you steal a hemalurgic attribute, then store the attribute in a metalmind to be able to tap at larger rates for greater power. There is a similar problem with this method of compounding as there was with the previous method, namely that the spike's power is not attuned to the compounder. So, similarly, the spike would have to be a trait that was stolen from you, or you would have to spike yourself with the stolen trait. The main debate for this type of compounding is whether feruchemical and hemalurgic charges can interact with each other. If they do, then a feruchemist should be able to directly tap the spike for the stolen trait. My main problem with this theory is that there is no limit to how much hemalurgic charge one can tap from the spike, and though it would probably be related to how powerful the victim was in the stolen trait, it doesn't seem likely that the charges would interact in this way because they are separate systems. My personal theory has spoilers again... Compounding types powered by Hemalurgy, HemaAllo and HemaFeru compounding, are... well... I think they are simpler than they appear. Actually, I believe that they have been used in the series already. The methods for these types of compounding as they were presented in the other post, I believe, are incorrect. Now, this is just a theory, so don't get upset, but compounding is the method of using one of the metallic arts to boost another, and the ideas for those two types of compounding in the post are only used to share investitures with others. For HemaFeru compounding, I believe that feruchemically storing an attribute into a spike would provide a filter, similar to how the feruchemical charge in AlloFeru compounding provided a filter for the power supplied through Allomancy. However, in this case the filter restricts what can be stored and gained during the hemalurgic process. So if I stored feruchemical speed in a spike, I would only be able to steal not only just feruchemical steel, but only my feruchemical steel because the feruchemical charge is attuned to my spiritweb. And, unless I stole my own feruchemical speed through Hemalurgy, I would not be able to steal an attribute from another person because of the filter. Either this is the case, or feruchemical and hemalurgic charges have no interaction with each other, in which case the spike would simply act as it normally would, stealing an attribute, not granting the other person feruchemical charges. For HemaAllo compounding, there is simply no way to store allomantic power in the spike. However, if there was a way, I believe that it would act in a similar way, creating a filter as the feruchemical charge did and having the same result. My theory is that these types of compounding are where you already have an investiture, for example allomantic bronze, and you spike someone and steal their allomantic bronze in order to boost your own allomantic bronze. Sound familiar? If this is the correct way to compound, then Vin was a compounder the entire time. The same goes with HemaFeru compounding, boosting feruchemical power by stealing the same attribute from another person. Its boring, I know, but I believe that it makes the most sense. I wanted to add a little note at the bottom here to suggest the idea that multiple forms of compounding could be used in conjunction with one another, for example AlloFeruAllo compounding, where one stores allomantic investiture, then burns the metalmind for even greater power (or AlloFeruAlloFeruAllo... compounding). There are other combinations that include hemalurgic compounding as well, but I will let you guys look into those on your own. I realize that some of the methods of compounding in this chapter did not follow the compounding rules presented on the forum, but I do not feel that renders these forms of compounding particularly impossible or unlikely. If you feel I have broken fundamental rule of a metallic art, let me know. Edit: If you stored Allomantic Nicrosil investiture in a nicrosilmind and compounded it, it may result in unlimited nicrosil power, and one could compound other nicrosilminds of other investitures to have unlimited power in those Investitures.
  12. Hello! This is my first post (other than my introductory one), so i hope it's alright. I did find the answers to quite a few of my questions already, so i only have a few of them left. I still haven't fully searched the wiki and the forums, so some of these questions may already have threads/answers, so feel free to link me the page as well as answer it again, and i apologise in advance. So, without further ado: MISTBORN 1) I looked up about compounding. It said you store a feruchemical attribute, then burn the metalmind allomantically to release a multiplied amount of the same attribute. After some searching, I found you can also apparently restore some of that same attribute after receiving it from the burn, answering my questions about Miles 100Lives. My question therefore, is this: If you have to burn the metal Allomantically to receive the attribute, why is that when Vin removes the Lord Ruler's EX-ternal Metalminds in TFE, he then turns old? Shouldn't he be burning a metalmind to achieve youthfulness, e.g. it should be in his stomach? 2)I found out that the Lord Ruler knew about all the Allomantic metals, and therefore could make Metalminds out of them all. Given this, he should be able to store his Identity in one of them (i forget which metal). I'm not sure, but wouldn't this allow him to utilise other people's metalminds? And therefore, he could have had teams of Feruchemists storing up age for him and then using them to stay young via compounding. ( I also found out that The Lord Ruler would have died eventually anyhow even if Vin didn't kill him) 3) I noticed there are a few koloss blooded humans in the Wax/Wayne books. Does this mean someone did the deed with a koloss? I'm all for each to their own, but dang. Or is it due to the third part of pillaging and plundering? 4) I'm currently halfway through Shadows of Self (but i have read it before and i have read BoM as well), but after the collapse of House Tekiel in AoL, what happens to Tekiel Tower, or doesn't it tell you? Warbreaker Just the one question here: I know it's either all or nothing with giving away breaths, but I'm sure I remember Vasher giving a few breaths to the Priests daughter that he and Vivienna rescue. I thought that this may be due to Vasher's experience, or due to storing most breaths in an object, giving away the few left, then restoring the rest after, but any official reason/better reason than mine? Stormlight Archive 1) When Syl turns into Kaladin's Shardblade/spear/weapons, and she gets hit by another weapon, does she feel pain? I think that is it for now, if i remember an urgent one I'll add it in an edit. From now on I will be summing up some of the notes I have lying around and try to get them post-ready for the theories forum. Also, just spotted Hoid again - coachdriver this time (SoS, for Wax). Thanks!
  13. So I recently realized that two things I believed about Compounding are not necessarily true: Metalmind is burned all at once, resulting in huge burst of power (probably coming from all that talk about bursts of power) What's released is Feruchemical power I am not sure about #2. I mean, now I'm thinking it results in release of the attribute, making the body heavier/faster/whatever and then that unusual state of heightened attribute is stored as Feruchemical power. Is there even any difference? Can somebody explain #2 to me and/or prove #1 false?
  14. Hey Sharders! Just something fun. If you could have any Twinborn combination--including Compounding--what would it be? Allomantic iron and Feruchemical pewter, or maybe Allomantic tin and Feruchemical gold. So many combinations! I think it would be cool to have steel on steel. Edit: I'm sorry if there are already things like this. Man, sometimes it's hard to be original!
  15. This is my first topic... (hooray!) So if I'm overlooking something completely obvious, feel free to point it out. I think it would also be fun to add ideas from everyone. Stormlight Archive 1) Shardblade drop Shardblades have been summoned over extremely large distances with little or no effort. You think the command, and the shardblade appears. It presumably comes through shadesmar, based on how other things have been doing that and the fact that it's a (dead) spren. Now, what if you were to go to a VERY high place and summon your shardblade? The energy output would be greater than the input. You could even power a generator by repeatedly dropping a shardblade on it! Could this be draining some sort of energy resevoir from the cognitive realm... or is it draining power from the gemstones? If it needs stormlight, then the gemstones or the radiant could easily feed it that. 2) Antigravity lashing This has the same concept as #1; an object comes back down with more energy than it went up with. Say you were to do a reverse lashing of half an object's weight upwards. You then launched it somehow with a ton of energy. The object would go much higher than it normally would with the same amount of energy. However, when the stormlight ran out, the object would come plummeting back to the ground with more energy than it was sent up with. Yes, this uses stormlight, a type of investiture. However, if stormlight consumption is based on time, you could still have a higher energy output with a large enough force sending it upwards. This implies that there's a complex formula for how fast stormlight is consumed. 3) Spren = mass? Spren supposedly come from a thought. If a thought allows spren to be CREATED, and that said spren bonds with a radiant, and that spren takes a form of something, wouldn't it add mass to the world from a thought? You could generate mass (and therefore energy) by thinking! Granted, the thought takes some level of energy... but you could theoretically have a higher output. However, it's more likely that there's a very complicated process to spren and bonding that we just don't know about yet. Mistborn 1) Compounding You simply come out with more energy than you put in. That's very simple... Store the heat of a fireplace, turn it into the heat of a supernova! I've read another topic talking about how it can draw power from shards, so that's resolved. Warbreaker 1) Awakened breath consumption Awakening an object lets it run for a long time on a single breath. Awakening can convert breaths to kinetic energy. Apparently, awakened objects stop working eventually. Could this be using up the breath or the objects energy? Either way, would a harder task demand more of that energy source? If not, (which is less likely) you could make a monkey rapidly turn a crank for a very, very long time and convert very little breath into A LOT of energy. In that case, awakened objects probably use up breath or their stored energy based on how hard what they're doing is. 2) Color=Energy... Color is either pigment or the wavelength of light. It's almost garunteed to be pigment, as there are a bunch of problems with light. There's bound to be some problem with converting pigment to energy, but I don't know enough formulas to think of something. I want to know what you think! I need someone who knows what they're doing!
  16. It recently struck me: More detailed analysis: Is there any WoB on such things? What are your thoughts?
  17. While trying to get my over caffeinated mind to sleep last night, I found myself pondering the cosmere (as usual). Something occurred to me that I don't remember ever seeing addressed. What would happen if someone tried to swallow and burn a piece of metal that had a hemalurgic charge instead of a feruchemical one? Now, there are obvious reasons why this would be hard to attempt in the first place. Following the rules, an allomancer can't take just any old metalmind and burn it...it is keyed to the feruchemist's identity...so the only people who can compound are people who, for whatever reason, can use the same metal for both feruchemy and allomancy...twinborn, hemalurgist, etc. Assuming that this remains constant with the theoretical situation I'm positing, you would have to either: A: Take a shaving off of a spike already in your body B: Spike yourself, survive, and still have access to the ability to burn the type of metal the spike is made of. Method A sounds a lot easier to pull off...method B...almost impossible... I could easily accept that this is just not something that works...which is why it has never been addressed. But just for fun, what do you guys think would be the result of hemalurgic compounding?
  18. Rashek's Allomancy was incredibly powerful. Far more so then even Elend, a full Lerasium Mistborn. His latent Allomancy appeared more powerful than a Mistborn flaring duralumin, orders of magnitude stronger than Elend. It is likely that he gave himself a more powerful form of Allomancy at the well, but it seems most likely that this would simply be a scaled up version of a Lerasium Mistborn. But from how he's portrayed, he's orders of magnitude more powerful. Why is this? Is he flaring Duralumin the whole time? This is unlikely, as it would burn out his metals too quickly. So my theory? Rashek was compounding Investiture. I suspect that he was storing investiture in Nicrosil, burning it then storing vast amounts of Investiture from compounding. He would then be able to keep his investiture (like his age and his health) at a steady burn all the time he was out in public. Thoughts? (And if this was posted before, I'm sorry!)
  19. Some kinds of feruchemy when compounded seem really easy to get addicted to, when compounding of course. Stuff like cadmium (which I think when burning a metal mind, you feel more alive, or more oxgenated, but like extreme amounts of it), bronze, Gold, Tin if you're a masochist like Spook, brass, chromium (?), and bend alloy. Then you have the stuff that'd be weird to compound regularly like weight. Would there be other types of investiture that are addicting?
  20. Hoid is both an Allomancer and a Ferrochemist. But please note these few things about him. 1. He didn't necessarily use the bead of Lerasium to become a Allomancer unless there was an interview that I didn't read. Regardless of whether he is a Mistborn or just a Misting, and similarly with Ferruchemy. It's still possible that he is compounding much like the Lord Ruler did in order to stay young. Brandon said "He did steal a bead of Lerasium off of Scadrial. If he were to make use of that bead, certain powers would have been gained." 2. He would likely be from Scadrial given he could gain BioChromatic Breath. Despite this many people think he is from Yolen. I will admit that I haven't read ever book in the Cosmere yet, but I'm almost done, and my theory makes sense; at least to me. 3. None of his powers are gained from Hemalurgy So little is known about the ability LightWeaving on Yolen, so to assume that he's from there and that it is heredity it foolish, so let's assume that like BioChromatic Breath, LightWeaving can be gained, or like Forging, it can at least be taught. The ability to visit Shadesmar can be gain in many ways, and the ability to manipulate it comes from practice. He uses Feruchemy to gain limited foresight, so he can know where he should be. This leads to my believing that he has lived through ages, maybe even since the shattering, though we know he isn't a Shard. It's quite possible though. As far as we know, Ferruchemy is strictly genetic, but being the oldest form of magic on Scadrial, it makes sense that he is from there, likely before the Rise of the Lord Ruler. His ability to heal and "bend time" could also come of Terris heritage. I don't think that he is a MistBorn, but rather a twin born of multiple abilities. NOT a full MistBorn and Ferrochemist though. Comment below with objections or support of this theory, I'd enjoy hearing what you guys think about it. -Java
  21. When person is both feruchemist and allomancer he/she can burn his metalmind and get an extra burst of characteristic that stored in it. This happen because this person access this power via allomancy, so extra burst go from Preservation. This multiplying effect looks normal for all feruchemical storages, except one. Coppermind. Feruchemist store memories in copper. If you compound copper, what will happen? It will stupid, if it just duplicate some of the information on coppermind. I have an idea, that when person compound his coppermind memories on it become more detailed. I mean that Preservation get necessary extra information from Cognitive or Spritual realms and give it to compounder.
  22. Spoilers for TFE, mild spoilers for AoL. The Lord Ruler routinely spent time being an old man in his little hut, presumably spinning cheerfully on his swivel chair or something. He did this to store youth, and chances are that he didn't continuously compound atium because it burns insanely fast. What I was wondering was, why couldn't this just be replaced with gold compounding, for more-or-less the same effect? Gold burns much more slowly, so he could keep it up pretty much continuously. (The way Miles is discussed in AoL - and the way gold compounding seems to work, in generating more health that you can then continuously store away - it suggests that he doesn't need to spend time being sickly in order to store health.) His need for it also wouldn't increase as he got older, which would be a really big plus. I'm pretty sure that being in permanent good health would be enough to make Rashek look like a young man forever. Healthy skin does not wrinkle. Healthy bones do not bow under the weight of your body. Healthy hair follicles do not produce white hair. In fact, healthy teeth probably don't even yellow. Everything beyond that is down to his mannerisms and style of dress, so he could easily present himself as a twenty-something-year-old. He wouldn't die of any age-related illnesses, either. Shouldn't that make him sufficiently immortal? The best explanations I can think of are: - Gold compounding does not reduce signs of aging, because wrinkles and stuff aren't considered health problems. (Which would be weird, because they're caused by organs functioning less and less well.) - On Scadrial, "old age" is an actual literal thing that you can die of. (Which would make it a type of illness, which would mean that gold compounding should heal it from you?) - Age is some kind of spiritweb thing (not clear on the details) that somehow inherently affects you on a plane where gold compounding can't fix the problems that it causes. (Which would need to be worked out in further detail before it can really be used to explain anything.) - The Lord Ruler actually made a big mistake in starting to compound atium, and he kept it up because stopping compounding is an even worse idea. (Probably the most plausible explanation on this list, IMO.) What do you all think?
  23. How exactly did the Lord Ruler's compounding system work? I didn't fully understand it after reading Sazed's explanation at the end of The Final Empire. Supposedly his atium compounding was stopped after Vin removed his bracers, but doesn't he have to burn Feruchemically charged atium for it to work? Wouldn't that mean he would be perfectly fine without the bracers, so long as he didn't run out of his metal reserve? If that is the case, do the bracers only serve the function of storing age, then being filed into ingestible metal to be burned? Perhaps I just don't understand the logistics of compounding well enough. Please, relieve me of my ignorance.
  24. Let's come up with some good uses for Compounding Chromium (basically, infinite luck)! Here is the list so far: Close your eyes, reach down, and pick up a conveniently located Lerasium nugget. - Me The windshield wipers and/or turn signal happens to be in time with the music. - Snoopy You don't run into trees, a la Intacto. - ThirdGen Keep my eyes and ears closed all day and just rely on random whims to guide me, then see where I wind up. - Observer Compound all night to get lucky. - Frosted Flakes In a fist fight, tap to have your opponent miss all punches. Tap more to possibly make them miss and knock themself out. Close your eyes, tap and pick stocks. Skydiving parachute malfunction. Tap and keep trying the cord. High speed car chase. Tap to survive without any crashes, while every police car following does crash. Bank robbery. Tap and guess at the safe combination. - kaladamSB When people post, I'll add their ideas to my list.
  25. So as I'm looking at a quote from Brandon: Now, as we've understood it, this means that whatever power Allomancy taps into, Feruchemy can siphon it off. Taking it into a larger context however, you can realise that this means that an End-Neutral System can effectively be powered by a End-Positive System. Imagine a Feruchemist Worldhopping the Cosmere, only to return to Elantris after an exciting day - as they arrive, they activate the Aons they have inscribed on their MetalMinds, and instantly they are fully recharged. That's only where the possibilities begin! (I've just realised that using Stormlight to fuel Awakening is essentially Compounding - good on you, Vasher). Sorry if this has been realised before, but I just had my mind blown and needed an outlet. I've also very curious to see how this relates to End-Negative Systems, or even Reverse-Compounding (as I believe we have WoB that the Lord Ruler enhanced his Allomancy with Feruchemy). On another note, I'm going to begin compiling notes on how to make the most overpowered being in the Cosmere. Examples of this would be abusing this version of Feruchemical Compounding, an Awakened Mistcloak, Nahel Bond Spren, Awakened sword, Honourblade, etc,. I would be most delighted to see if anyone else can come up with some overpowered combinations.
