  1. Say that somebody with braces was a mistborn or mistling, if it was the right metal could you burn it for the abilities?
  2. So, I know that it's possible for a Mistborn to burn a shardblade, but this is my question. If you were a Mistborn and a Knight Radiant, (like Hoid) could you burn a shardblade without summoning the blade into the physical realm? Would this only work for shard-bearers that aren't Knights? Would this harm your spren?
  3. Can stormlight be used to fill a metal mind or fuel allomancy? Can burning metal or tapping a metal mind be used to fuel surges? If either is true can they be used to fuel other forms of investiture in the cosmere such as Chromatic Breaths or be fueled by other forms of Investiture? I saw it stated somewhere that Chromatic Breaths can fuel surges.
  4. What would be the effect of a mistborn burning a piece of metal with hemalurgic charge? I have a few thoughts on what may happen and welcome some more. My theories are as of yet: 1. Nothing new will happen as you have too conflicting magic system interacting. The metal would still be able to produce it's allomantic effects, but the hemalurgic charge would not add anything as the two systems are diametrically opposed. Perhaps the hemalurgic charge could even interfere with the allomancy in some way and lessen it's effectiveness? 2. Burning metal with a hemalurgic charge will recieve an increase of the power stored, similar to compounding. This could take several forms I suppose. The allomancer's allomancy could become more potent (although I doubt that because of point one). It could somehow amplify the hemalurgic charge, fuelling the hemalurgy with allomancy, again as seen in compounding. (I don't like this one as much because I don't really see it working.) 3. The hemalurgic charge is applied to the allomancer. This one is weird but I thought that perhaps burning the charged metal kind of exposed your spirit web and allowed the patch of someone elses spirit web to latch onto yours. This one is really weird and I'm not sure if it would even work. But if it does then that'd be an interesting way to get around stabbing spikes into your body. You would of course still experience the effect of hemalurgy, just without the metal spikes. This may also face issues when it comes to where it attaches to your soul, because it may attach randomly and result in incorrect placement. 4. When burning the hemalurgically charged metal, the fragment of the spirit web stored is released to return to the rest of the soul wherever that may be (likely beyond). So they're my thoughts, I am curious to see what you guys think.
  5. What would happen if a mistborn burnt shard-material? iron that was messed with by a forger and turned into steel?
  6. In The Well of Ascension we see Lerasium burned by Elend so that he becomes a Mistborn of extremely powerful Investiture. However, Brandon has said in his notes that this is simply a side effect of burning Lerasium, not the main effect. Now, I'm not sure if someone else made a topic on this already (I tried looking but couldn't find anything), but it seems fairly obvious to me what that function is. When burned, Lerasium should be able to be used in place of any allomantic metal reserve (i.e. I could burn Lerasium as a mistborn and, if I chose, get extra strength, speed, and balance as if I were burning very pure allomantic pewter). Here is my evidence... Lerasium is related to Preservation and is thus linked to Allomancy. Its opposite, Atium, is related to Ruin and Hemalurgy. So, if we see how Atium acts in Hemalurgy, it may give us a clue about how Lerasium acts in Allomancy. As a Hemalurgic spike, Atium steals any attribute/Investiture, so Lerasium in my mind should at likewise. Throughout the original Mistborn trilogy, Vin draws in the mists, the gaseous form of Lerasium, and burns them for super heightened Allomantic strength, such as when her Allomantic steel power can see the Lord Rulers bands even though they are heavily invested (and maybe pierce his skin? I don't remember...). However, toward the end of Hero of Ages, Vin draws the mists in her fight against Marsh and burns Lerasium in this way, gaining other allomantic powers by only burning the mists. I don't have a physical copy of the novel, so I can't quote directly from the book, but that is how I remember that scene happening. However, this brings up another question. If Atium and Lerasium both perform all functions within their respective systems, can Harmonium do the same within Feruchemy, storing and tapping any attribute (that can be stored and tapped through other metals)? Harmonium is ettmetal, so it may be difficult to keep a Harmonium metalmind from exploding, making this theory unlikely, but I believe it needed to be discussed. Again, I don't know if someone else came to this conclusion already, I assumed this was common knowledge until I could not find anything on it.
  7. Hey all, Vice, nice to meet you all. I have a couple of character ideas based on the infrastructure Mr. Sanderson created with the twinborn addition to Scadrial. A group of talented mistings and ferrings split from the familiar lands under the influence of the Lord Mistborn. They journeyed to the lands furthest from civilization to start a new way of life based on the philosophy of perfecting the art of allomancy and ferruchemy. Over time the masters developed their ideas and created a synthesis between burning allomantic fuel and perfection of movement. This combination of mastery generated the primary component of this new art, "pulsing (vs. "burning")" Pulsing is a consistent consumption of allomantic fuel cycled and maintained by a misting. Average consumption is likened more to an automobile engine, revving the output with a pedal-push modality. Pulsing regulates the output to a wave or a frequency. The high and low cycles maximizes fuel consumption and promotes precision control of output. Enter our first character, Locke Smythe, iron compounder: lifelong practice with tai chi chuan has given him absolute control of his core movement. Combining iron pulling with perfect spatial positioning allows him to influence the trajectory of a yanked object, hulahooping an object around himself to launch at opponents, very much like chained weapons. As a child, Locke was made to practice orbiting a dripping paintbrush around himself while standing on parchment. His masters used his "paintings" as a measure of his control. Locke had to maintain the initial speed and momentum by modulating his pull. Rhythmic timing, giving just enough pull to alter its trajectory and momentum, can create extremely controlled figure eight patterns which intuitive proficiency can weaponize. Once Locke proved his mastery over his "pulse" weapon he began training his control over accessing and storing his weight to and from his ironmind. His masters would position needles above and below him while having him maintain his perfect weight to hold position between them (while tethered so the wind wouldn't blow him away). Once he developed intuitive control over his weight modulation he had to practice jumping "light"(with reduced weight) and falling"heavy" to light soft landing, in sequence with spinning studded boards offset to give him safety only as he continues to jump and land unerringly. Locke soon found that by launching his weapon skyward and then lightening himself enough to be yanked by his pull on his airborne weapon he could weapon toss himself as far up and as far away as he wanted. To land he adds weight enough to descend at a comfortable speed and around twenty to ten feet above landing he sends the weapon skyward again pulse-pulling himself to a controlled touchdown. Further training experimentation has turned Locke into a competent airborne opponent capable of chasing down escaping coinshots. Currently he is developing an bow-launched gauntlet that can fire serrated pins, shuriken and bolts that dig deep in opponent flesh and create metal anchors he can use to control the victim's position. Once captured, Locke can then parabola-whip his enemies around himself and launch them at their allies or merely distort their positioning in melee combat destroying their balance and dropping them negative space or placing them inside his range. Opponents can be kicked away and yanked back for more destruction all while the anchor is moving inside their flesh. Some success has been had in launched clawed chains that dig into armor and become sturdy anchors for Locke's manipulation. In a pinch, bullets or leadshot become reliable tools for manipulation. I invite thoughts, criticisms, witticisms and the like -Vice
