  1. I'd been toying with new Twinborn ideas in my head, and think I have something moderately exciting. Picture this: a Slider (or Pulser) enters a room with a hefty supply of their according metal. They activate a time bubble, then sit down and begin tapping brass. They would do this either for a significant amount of time or at a very large tapping rate, until the Twinborn has reached a significant body temperature (for the sake of this conversation, 500° Fahrenheit, or 260° Celsius). The Twinborn in question will then drop the time bubble. The idea is that the heat generated from the brassmind will transfer from the body of the Twinborn will transfer to the surrounding air. The amount of surrounding air, however, should be limited by the time bubble, and thus the heat should be trapped within the bubble's confines. Dropping the bubble, then, should remove the barrier, and allow the heat to rush into the room. If enough heat is trapped by the Twinborn, the process could be more than mildly violent. I have a few questions on this: Is this theory watertight? Does it actually make sense? If so, would this function with either External Temporal metal, or only one of the two? Which one? How effective would this theoretical attack be? My current thought is that only a Bendalloy bubble would work for this. The way I see it, the bubble wouldn't really stop heat from leaking through, but the rate of transfer should be affected by the temporal manipulation. If the time outside the speed bubble is slowed down significantly, whatever heat escapes the bubble should be trapped right outside of it. We know that when Wayne throws up a speed bubble, everything outside practically freezes, depending on how much he flares the metal. The heat should then collect outside the bubble, also serving to prevent excess heat escaping. After all, the Laws of Thermodynamics determine that heat seeks to make cold matter warm (I have overly simplified it, but that's basically it), so that any heat stopped in time outside the bubble would act as a buffer to the heat inside the bubble. Regardless, any thoughts?
  2. Here's some background information to setup the context for my question. In the context of taking control of Hemalurgic Constructs, emotional Allomancy is additive. There's a threshold where a single Mistborn burning Duralumin can Soothe a Koloss and take control of it, or a group of Soothers can jointly Soothe the Koloss to get the same effect. Strong enough Soothing or Rioting could be considered sufficient trauma to cause an Allomancer to Snap. Ruin's control of Koloss and Inquisitors operates on the same principle as emotional Allomancy. If a stronger force Soothes or Riots a group of Hemalurgists competitively then the stronger one gets control of the Hemalurgists. It's worth noting that Set Hemalurgist determined that the number of spikes they could use to grant powers without opening themselves to Harmony's influence was 3, unless they had a Trellium spike where we saw at least 4. With that information as back drop, for a normal Scadrian what are the limits of their resistance to Emotional Allomancy? Worded differently, if you had one person in a room and added progressively more Soothers Pushing on their emotions, if necessary adding in Nicrobursts to enhance the Soothers, would you ever be able to break and control a regular person the same way Hemalurgists are controlled? If not, what would happen to the person placed under that much pressure? What if the person was insane from a standpoint that they could hear a CS talking to them? Alternate question, when fighting the Set, would it have been possible for a group of powerful Soothers to lower the threshold of the Hemalurgist's resistance and allow Harmony to gain control of them? Thoughts? Imagine if a Scadrian Soothing parlor decided to become terrorists with the help of a Nicroburst, what could they accomplish?
  3. While I was making today’s random twinborn combination, I realized that I haven’t really explored the difference between rioting and soothing, and kind of equated them as different methods of getting the same effect. But that isn’t really true, is it? I mean…is it? Say you want to sneak past guards that are guarding a very important keepsake of a noble. Soothing away their alertness or their sense of fervor might get them to be less ready to stop you if you were to sneak past them. Rioting their sense of tiredness would also do a similar thing, and get pretty much the same result. But would one be more effective than the other? Is there a scenario where one would work where the other would fail? I’m nearly certain there is, yet I can’t quite find a clear scenario where one is clearly better than the other. I suppose if you’re manipulating someone that has extreme emotions already (if they’re really angry or scared, for example), then soothing would be the way to go. But would rioting still do the trick? Well, at what point is calmness not another emotion you can riot, as it is just the more neutral variant of being in fight or flight mode?
  4. So, I was too lazy to go back and look for it myself, but I seem to remember from The Final Empire that zinc soothed and brass rioted. Now, zinc riots, and brass soothes. Did Brandon mix them up, or am I remembering incorrectly?
  5. Just what it says on the tin, there. I play brass instruments, even in cold Canadian Remembrance Day (Veterans day for you Americans) weather. So I thought that if I was a Firesoul or a compounder it'd be very convenient to keep toasty warm. Brass instruments get cold FAST when it's chilly outside, and that can numb the fingers well. I wondered if Brandon had said anywhere just how hot a Brass ferring could get while tapping their metalminds. If, like an Iron Ferring becoming 20 times heavier for a time without crushing themselves, they can give themselves a big increase in personal temperature without burning themselves. Brass has a melting point of around 900-940 degrees Celsius. The human body is normally in the 36 degree range. If a Ferring or compounder can make themselves 30 times hotter for long enough their metalminds would begun to melt. Long before that point, though, their metalminds would have to become hot enough to burn at least anyone other than the ferring themselves since Brass is a good thermally conductive metal. I guess it's also all dependant on how much your temperature changes when you fill or tap the metalmind. Just two degrees Celsius is a BIG change in your body temperature without Feruchemy being involved. Any info you've got will be useful! (Note, I haven't read the bands of mourning yet, but I do understand that brass metalminds play a role in the book. Technical knowledge like how warm people get is okay to fill me in on!)
  6. I'm not entirely sure how brass feruchemy works. Does it store internal heat, or external heat? If a brass ferring were to walk into a raging fire, could they simply store all the heat that the fire provides and avoid burning themselves?
  7. Does anybody know what would happen if Brass was compounded? Soothing and Heat don't seem to go together.
  8. At some point in the books, it says that allomantic snapping can be caused by intense emotion, but it doesn't need to be a bad one, like someone could snap from joy. Why not get emotional allomancers to snap people, easily and painlessly.
  9. I suspect that Sigzil might be a Allomancer. In WoR ch.71, Teft along with Sigzil was doing nightwatch and waiting for Kaladin to make a comeback from chasms. And Teft kept talking about Envisagers and his past. But it's... kinda strange. Quote two paragraphs here: Sigzil seems to let Teft tell a lot unknowingly... is it just my overthinking, or he's actually burning Brass to let Teft speak? He was asking Teft something in the beginning of the chapter, so he does have a motivation---but that's not the topic here. We all know his mentor was Hoid. What if Hoid, accidentally or deliberately, made him become a Allomancer? Extra: We also recognized Nahel Bond. But have anyone thought about Who the hell Nahel is? What do you think?
  10. So, can Lurchers Pull objects hidden in buildings. For example, I'm standing on a street and there's a huge chunk of metal inside a building. Can I Pull on it? I finished the first three Mistborn books, but I forgot about this.
  11. Decided to get my first fandom tattoo (all of my other previous ink has been related to my family and family history). Went for allomantic brass because I am very similar in temperment to Breeze (and also Sebarial, but that's a tattoo for down the road, maybe). I went for the Era 1 version of the symbol, since 1: That is when Breeze lived and 2: I miss the dot in the Era 2 version. Seriously, how come Brass is the only metal to lose the dot? So unfair.
  12. Assuming that it was not just an impressive mess-up in my version, it seems that Brass has been given new symbol, though I have no idea why this is. Brass now seems to be the only symbol to not have a dot in it. At first I wondered if it was some sort of misprint, but the line is clear and steady, not blurred at all, and it's not like there was some OTHER symbol that they accidentally inserted, as might happen with a typo. New art has to be specifically made, and we know that an artist created at least one other new Metallurgic symbol for that last chapter heading. So, any theories as to why Brass has changed?

    Brass

This is one of the metals that I created with Adobe Photoshop. I took a bunch of .png files and put them into Photoshop, then used a lot of different techniques, blurs, noise, and such to create these. I hope you all like them. I am not sure if I need a disclaimer, but I don't own anything.
  14. The books give us very little in the way of information on Allomantic Savants, but ever since first reading the second book years ago, i've been fascinated by the implications. Does anyone know if Sanderson has given any hints about Savants other than tineyes? Could a misting reach duralumin boosted levels with their allomancy? Could an Atium misting with a mountain of atium theoretically gain true future sight from atium as Elend did via duralumin There's so much unexplored territory with the savants.
