  1. As we know, TLR used compounded feruchemical atium to drastically increase his lifespan. As I've come to further understand the nature of compounding, I've begun to wonder whether he would ever have run out of age? Would he not be able to say, wear an atium ring, tap a fair amount of age from his existing atiumminds, fill said age directly into the ring, swallow the ring and burn it multiplying the amount stored, then rinse and repeat? This would theoretically give him unlimited age as long as he still had some age stored somewhere. If I've gotten anything wrong or my understanding of compounding is flawed, then please let me know. Otherwise, I welcome your thoughts.
  2. Time for a speculation thread! Ignore for a moment the financial implications of having that much atium on hand. Let's imagine that there was someone, either a Mistborn or a Seer, who had burned enough atium to warp their spiritual aspect and become a savant. What sorts of things could they do with atium that normal burners could not? I imagine they'd be able to extend the length of the atium shadows they saw far into the future. But presumably prolonged exposure to that much concentrated power of a Shard might have additional unexpected effects. And I'm almost positive that one drawback of atium savantism would be an increased suceptibility to Ruin or another Shard's influence. Are godmetal savants even possible?
  3. For a long time I was wondering why a simple basic metal allows to counter the effects of a godmetal. The short answer: it doesn't. The longer answer: it doesn't, but actually does. The true answer: Here we go. Let's start with everything we know: Atium burners see a single shadow of every object they see. The shadow shows the future of the object, few seconds at best. Somebody burning electrum sees his own multiple shadows Somebody burning electrum is said to be protected from atium Now, how are "vortexes of shadows" created? When another person sees your reaction to their atium shadow. They can act on it, what results in atium shadow splitting. Reference: Vin killing Zane. It's like that: Person 1 will do thing1. Person 2(burning atium) sees this and adjusts their movement. Person 1 sees the adjustment, quickly concludes thing1 and chooses to do thing2. Person 2 sees atium shadows split to thing1 and thing2. Image: When another person also burns atium. You can see their atium shadow, what they want to do and you can adapt your behaviour based on it. But since they also burn atium, they see what you want to do and what you want to do in relation to their behaviour. So they adjust their movement and so on. Since most of it happens subconsciously, it all happens at once. That's how a Feedback Atium Loop is created, resulting in multiple atium shadows. When you burn electrum, you see what you're about to do, so you can adjust what you want to do, this will create another electrum shadow which you will see and also can change your mind... So even without any atium burner nearby electrum creates a vortex of shadows (somehow confirmed at the beginning of HoA). That is Feedback Electrum Loop. Now, since electrum burner has multiple ways he can go, when you burn atium, you will see multiple shadows of electrum burner. For an observer burning atium you will also have multiple atium shadows. Mind you, if you constantly change your intentions, this will result in your atium shadow changing. But what causes them to multiply is acting on the hints from the future.
  4. I've been playing around with ideas as to how to overcome atium, and I've thought that perhaps a feruchemist tapping steel would be able to exploit the fact that atium still relies on your reactions. An allomancer burning atium would see your atium shadow, but if a feruchemist were tapping enough steel then perhaps they would be able to move too fast for even the enhanced mind that atium provides to comprehend. I got this idea when I was reading Sazed's fight with Marsh. There was a point where he was moving too fast for Marsh to react, so perhaps if he were to use that same technique, but tapping more steel, on someone burning atium then perhaps it would work. I welcome your thoughts.
  5. So I'm starting this thread to collect all theories about atium alloys, since no one seems to be talking much about them recently. The only one we know about right now is malatium, which is an atium and gold alloy, which is basically gold's effect on other people. My theories are: Atium + Bronze would enable you to know if a person you are touching has ever burnt metals Atium + Chromium/Nicrosil would basically have the same effect, but in a sphere around you. Also, I think that a Misting of any Allomantic power could burn any godmetal alloys of it. What are you guys's ideas?
  6. I think that Hemalurgic Atium should be much more powerful, because of the resonance between Ruin's godmetals and Ruin's Metallic Art. I mean, stealing anything is neat, but not as amazingly Op as lerasium in Allomancy, which also has a strong resonance (I think?). My theories are: H-Atium spikes do not degrade H-Atium spikes can hold multiple Hemalurgic charges So I think that unless the current version of H-Atium is WoB -proven, we don't know all about it. (though it's probably already been proven because I can't find any mention of it in the series) Any of you WoB-ninjas? Help? Please?
  7. So I just finished re-listening to The Alloy of Law on audiobook and I have a question regarding Marsh. Obviously, he has found some way to stay alive. I feel like the most obvious way he did this is with a combination of Allomancy and Feruchemy, just like the Lord Ruler used. However, I see a potential problem. In Feruchemy, atium is used to store physical age. However, in Era 2, atium is merely a thing of legend. I thought I remembered via WOB that the power of Harmony that would have coalesced into atium is instead being used elsewhere for some other, as of yet, unknown purpose. If this is the case, how is Marsh staying alive? Did Harmony merely allow enough atium to form that would let Marsh survive 300 years, or is there another reason?
  8. Hi everyone, I was reading through the list of Aons at the back of Elantris, and I realized something: the Aon for “hope” is “Ati.” Ati, as in the man who was the host for Ruin? Who Atium was named for? Unfortnunately, as I was reading through, I could not find anything for Leras in the Aons... Is this just a coincidence? Or is there a connection through this (rather ironic) name? Maybe Ruin and whoever hosted Dominion or Dominion, the two Shards on Sel, had some sort of connection before the Shattering.
  9. In the Bands of Mourning, we hear the legends of the Lord Ruler’s bracers, endowing anyone bearing them with Mistborn and Feruchemist powers. A single pair of bracers. Obviously, we eventually find that the Bands are a real creation of Sovereign-Kelsier, a single, long, tapered piece of metal composed of carefully mixed metals. But I would like to talk about the Lord Ruler’s /actual/ bracers. Not all of them, as he wore many. His atium bracers. The special ones. Those bracers served as both a feruchemical storage and hemalurgic spikes. There are three things I find very interesting about them. First, Brandon had to know that any astute reader would doubt the Sovereign’s identity as the Lord Ruler, given that we know what Bracers he bore, and we know that his special ones, the atium bracers, would be unable to store other feruchemical traits, even given what we learned in the book early on re: F-Aluminum and F-Nicrosil. We know what his bracers were, and we know they don’t match the legends. Second, Vin and Elend sold the Lord Ruler’s atium bracers. Atium bracers that could only have ended up in the hands of Ruin’s inquisitors or burned by some Mistborn (barring somehow a Kandra contract or a Seer getting ahold of them.) And we don’t know what /burning/ a hemalurgic spike does, but that the results of such a thing, of effectively combining with someone else’s spiritual DNA could have crazy results. And these bracers were either repurposed by Ruin or burned by someone, more than likely. Third, we still don’t know what the Lord Ruler stored in those bracers. He had all 16 allomantic and feruchemical powers already, and he could have used either the well of ascension or nicrosil compounding to give himself such strength in allomancy as to need no hemalurgic boost, unless he was perhaps seeking a slight skill boost. Was he seeking the powers similar to a Kandra Blessing? Or something else entirely? in other words, there’s still some more to wonder about. I’ve tried to link this to Marsh’s feruchemical atium spike in the few minutes I’ve taken to write this, but I can’t see how he’d have made use of Rashek’s bracers, without any access to Rashek’s identity. Anyway, that about wraps up my ramblings.
  10. What would happen if you flared gold? Or atium? I am asking for a friend. He also asked what would happen if you flared copper, so I told him that it would just extend the coppercloud. Any thoughts, insoght, anything?
  11. I was wondering what happens to atium once it has been burned? As far as I am aware atium is the body of ruin/ati and is physical form of Investiture. I understand that "Investiture works in a similar fashion to energy in that it follows its own laws of thermodynamics and that it is not possible to destroy Investiture; it can only be redistributed." Preservation had the mists snap people to become atium mistings so that they could burn away the atium cache so that ruin couldn't get a hold of it. But, where does that physical Investiture go to (e.g., the cognitive or spiritual realm?) and why can't ruin access it after it has been "redistributed"?
  12. From my understanding to stay ageless you need to compound Atium, but as far as I know there isn't anymore Atium in Era 2? Where is marsh getting his Atium?
  13. So I created an account just so I could pose this questions to everyone. Be warned, Oathbringer spoilers here! ---- We now have scenes from Oathbringer (as well as WoB) demonstrating the use of one type of investiture to fuel a different off world sub-type of magic (ex. Szeth using stormlight to fuel Nightblood rather than breath). Now that Hoid is Knight Radiant in addition to a fully powered lerasium mistborn what sort of effect would stormlight have fueling allomancy? We see Kaladain receive a renewing supply of energy flying at the front of the everstorm and Szeth able to unleash the full effects of Nightblood without having to utilize biochromatic breath. Would stormlight act as a "metal supply" for Hoid? And if so, would it also potentially fuel him with an "atium reserve", possibly even a renewing one if he was near the everstorm? Conversely what sort of effect would metal vials have fueling surgebinding?
  14. When Elend used duralumin and Atium together at the end of HoA he saw Preservation's great plan and what it would accomplish. He was only able to comprehend this because Atium speeds up your thoughts or comprehension so you can understand or react quicker to what you see. So, If a Mistborn burned duralumin and atium and saw far in the future, I'm wondering if when they stopped burning Atium they would forget most of what they have seen because they no longer have increased comprehension or faster thinking. Elend probably didn't have time to forget what he saw because he was killed immediately after using the Atum and Duralumin, but would anyone else just forget the vast amount of knowledge they have just gained about the future?
  15. I have a few theories on this front, but the floor is open. The problem with any theories made, of course, is that we know so little about Spinning. First, and least interesting, is simply somehow managing to get them in a situation with no variables, allowing them to be killed. This of course assumes that they would not be lucky enough to avoid the situation. Second, somehow manage to use a combination of a Leecher and a Lurcher (sounds like a bad children's book) to remove their metal and metalminds. Once again though, we fall into the trap of them simply being lucky enough to avoid this scenario in the first place. Third, highly speculative, is to do with aluminium. As far as I understand it (correct me if I'm wrong), an Aluminium Gnat, far from having no effect whatsoever as is said in-universe, has the ability to completely negate all Investiture in the Misting's body. If this extends as far as Feruchemy, a Purger, as I would call them if I was right, would be able to walk straight up to the Spinner, completely ignoring their luck, and kill them. Perhaps, like copper, it might create a cloud with lessened effects on other people, but I'm just speculating now. Anywho, what think?
  16. We've been led to believe since the very beginning that feruchemy is completely end-neutral, meaning that you always get out the same power that you put in. (Excluding compounding) Something that I noticed while rereading the Mistborn era one books, however, seems to not match the pattern! Atium! Atium is not end neutral! The trait that it stores is age, which means that as soon as you store it, you've lost the time that you spent being old to store it in the first place! Let me explain better: if you were to store age in an Atium metalmind, even only for a few seconds, then use it to become equally younger for the same amount of time, you would be OLDER by a few seconds at the end, then when you started! Someone needs to ask Brandon if this is a quirk of storing an atribute that naturally decays over time (people age constantly), or if the feruchemical use of Atium is end-negative on purpose, because it is of Ruins power. If it isn't just a quirk, or I'm not a crazy person, this could mean that lerasium should be able to store something end-positive, which people gain over time rather than loose, (wild speculation ahead) such as wisdom or experience. Stormfather! I think I might have found something! Thoughts and criticisms?
  17. Hey everyone I'm new to these forums but I had a few questions that I wanted to ask that I got from reading the original Mistborn trilogy as well as the newer Wax and Wayne books. My first question has to do with the way the preservation used the mists in The Hero of Ages to snap allomancers. If my memory serves me correctly, (and please do correct me if I'm wrong cus it's been a while) 1/16th of those who fell ill to the mists became especially sick. Those who became especially sick turned out to be atium mistings. We later learn however that atium is not one of the 16 base metals, but one of the God metals. This means that there are at least 17 possible mistings. Shouldn't 1/17th of those who fell to the mists become atium mistings then? Also, what about malatium, is it possible to have a malatium misting? And finally, what about lerasium, is it possible to have an alloy of lerasium?
  18. I can't remember if this has been answered before (i don't seem to recall any WoBs directly stating so) but has it been answered what would happen if a Scadrian (unsnapped) eats a piece of Atium? Given we know Lerasium increases your Connection to Preservation, making you a Mistborn as a byproduct, I was curious if eating its counterpart would also produce an effect
  19. So I've seen a lot of people here saying that the reason the tables of metals are so different in Era 1 and Era 2 is because Atium is a godmetal and doesn't count as one of the regular sixteen. But in HoA, 1/16 of the people with mist-sickness become Atium mistings. If Atium really counted differently, then either none of them should have been Atium mistings, or 1/18 of them should have been, for regular metlas + both godmetals. Because if Atium was one of the original sixteen, then so should have Lerasium. (I can't believe I signed up here mostly because this was nagging at me, then remembered to post all my Cosmere questions except this one).
  20. I'm sure most people know this or have already read a post about this, but Vin almost did manage to steal the Lord Ruler's Atium in the first book of the Mistborn series. In fact, she was closer to learning on of the Final Empire's greatest secrets within the first few chapters of FE. But that was before Kelsier swept her away. This is just a small thing, but I find it so ironic how circular the Mistborn Trilogy is. If you recall, Camon's crew was planning a large heist that involved intercepting a shipment of ministry funds that was to be hidden on barges of new obligator acolytes. This was to be a big score, one of the biggest Vin had ever seen up to that time. However, there was far more at stake than anyone realized. In HoA, Sazed learns from the First Generation of Kandra that the Lord Ruler was very careful with the little amounts of Atium that was allowed to leave the Pitts. In order to hide the movements of Ruin's body the Lord ruler snuck the beads of Atium inside the shipments of ministry funds sent into Luthadell on the barges of new obligator acolytes in order to hide the movement from the eyes of the destructive shard. If Camen had stuck to his original plan and had succeeded, they not only would have acquired a large amount of gold, but they would have discovered the Atium being smuggled from the pits into Luthadel. Unfortunately, the result of this would certainly have been the swift and brutal massacre of the skaa who found and attempted to sell this massive treasure. All in all, it's probably best that the plan fell apart before it could happen. But it's ironic how close Vin was to stealing the Atium right from the start. Even more so to think that Marsh traveled on those very barges filled with Atium. The strange reality is that Camon was far better at stealing the Lord Ruler's Atium cache than Kelsier, albeit unintentionally.
  21. I think I have figured something out, although this is in no way confirmed. I was re-reading HoA and I was pondering hemalurgic spikes in Kandra. Now we know that Kandra Blessings are two spikes which together grant sentience and a power of some kind. In SoS Bleeder uses unknown methods to not only grant herself Feruchemy speed while only using one spike. However, I always thought it was odd that she also manifested a power we have only seen Ruin and Harmony use up to this point. She takes moments to speak to Wax in his mind. At the time I just kinda went with it, it was an exciting time in the story. However, I realized that this should have sent up several red flags. I mean, not only does she use the metallic arts which we thought was impossible, but then she invades Wax's mind like that. That's not even a power we have observed a mortal being using before! Here is where I will delve into the interviews with Brandon. There was a question about ReLuur, and if one of his spikes is Atium. TLDR: RAFO http://www.theoryland.com/intvsresults.php?kwt='reluur' Now, this is obviously about a different Kandra but we know they know more than they are telling Wax and Wayne at the moment. It seems likely that Atium in some form is still accessible to some Kandra. This is what really holds my theory out. You see, I was contemplating the fact that Brandon has written sayuing that you could make alloys with both Larasium and Atium and produce 16 alloys. We know that the Laraseium alloys make Mistings, and it's been hinted that Atium alloys would have various temporal effects. So here is the long and short of it all: Bleeder's single spike might steal the possible abilites of the Atium-Brass Alloy Now the spike itself might not actually be made of that material since it's hemaleric in nature. But I believe it steals the powers of burning Atium-Zinc or Atium-Brass allomancers. This is a stretch but let me walk you through what we know: 1. Bleeder can somehow talk in the minds of thoses spiked with Hemalergy. 2. Bleeder cannot be using more than one spike while she does this. 3. Bleeder has knowledge of Hemalergy that is far beyond the current understanding of Harmony's people (as far as we know). 4. Bleeder's spike was made of an unknown metallic alloy. Now the power of speaking in minds is a bit of a stretch, but it certainly seems like a possibility of a twisted external mental allomantic ability. It also feels more like a pushing rather than a pulling ability. I mean, that is the most realistic explanation for this strange and invasive ability. *Edit: Thanks to some awesome readers, I have seen references that clarify that Bleeder's spike is made from a metal that Harmony doesn't know. However, this doesn't change the foundation of the theory. Thanks to those who took the time to source the quotes!* As my final point of support in this theory, I will need to delve into Secret History here: So there it is, I have no idea how viable this is, or where exactly the atium came from. It either has reappeared or it was salvaged from an older stash. But I am happy I finally got this out there. It's such a cool concept to think about. I wonder how this could be applied in combat, and if there is a limited range that this communication is restricted to. *Edit: Changed my wording for clarification.
  22. So where is the Atium in the wax and Wayne books. Is it simply crazy rare because the pits of whatever were destroyed/lost or is it no longer being produced?
  23. Hi people! Kell here. I need to work on a new intro. Anyways, I'm here to discuss weird metal effects (WMFX/E). Post your opinions down below. Alright. Here we go! •What happens when you burn Atium and Malatium at the same time against an opponent who is using the same metals? Will the Atium shadows have shadows too? Will you see all the possible paths of the past Malatium shadows? What happens with Gold in the mix? •What does Atium/Lerasium/Malatium/Gold/Electrum do in tandem with Duralumin? Duralumin and the metal as a Savant? •When burning Bendalloy or Cadmium, what does Atium do? The others? •Since the human body has trace amounts of iron, can we Push/Pull/Sense it with Duralumin/Harmony messing with your body/Lerasium? •If some Allomantic Metals are toxic, do Gold Metalminds (Bloodmakers) burn them away? Only Rashek would have this problem, tho. •If Harmonium could store any attribute, could it store non-Feruchemical attributes? •What the rust happens when you Hemalurgically Spike someone and Spike yourself and the stored Identity and you tapped the Metalmind? Would you BECOME THEM?!?!?! Thazzit for now, Having the want of seeing the you tomorrow!!
  24. So I was wondering if there's a direct correlation between Ruin and seeing into the future. Why does burning Atium specifically give you the ability to see into the future?
  25. In The Well of Ascension we see Lerasium burned by Elend so that he becomes a Mistborn of extremely powerful Investiture. However, Brandon has said in his notes that this is simply a side effect of burning Lerasium, not the main effect. Now, I'm not sure if someone else made a topic on this already (I tried looking but couldn't find anything), but it seems fairly obvious to me what that function is. When burned, Lerasium should be able to be used in place of any allomantic metal reserve (i.e. I could burn Lerasium as a mistborn and, if I chose, get extra strength, speed, and balance as if I were burning very pure allomantic pewter). Here is my evidence... Lerasium is related to Preservation and is thus linked to Allomancy. Its opposite, Atium, is related to Ruin and Hemalurgy. So, if we see how Atium acts in Hemalurgy, it may give us a clue about how Lerasium acts in Allomancy. As a Hemalurgic spike, Atium steals any attribute/Investiture, so Lerasium in my mind should at likewise. Throughout the original Mistborn trilogy, Vin draws in the mists, the gaseous form of Lerasium, and burns them for super heightened Allomantic strength, such as when her Allomantic steel power can see the Lord Rulers bands even though they are heavily invested (and maybe pierce his skin? I don't remember...). However, toward the end of Hero of Ages, Vin draws the mists in her fight against Marsh and burns Lerasium in this way, gaining other allomantic powers by only burning the mists. I don't have a physical copy of the novel, so I can't quote directly from the book, but that is how I remember that scene happening. However, this brings up another question. If Atium and Lerasium both perform all functions within their respective systems, can Harmonium do the same within Feruchemy, storing and tapping any attribute (that can be stored and tapped through other metals)? Harmonium is ettmetal, so it may be difficult to keep a Harmonium metalmind from exploding, making this theory unlikely, but I believe it needed to be discussed. Again, I don't know if someone else came to this conclusion already, I assumed this was common knowledge until I could not find anything on it.
