  5. Hi everyone. I wanted to share a bit of fan art with you. Enjoy!
  6. Hi, everyone! Had no clue this community existed, so this is neat!
  7. I've recently tried getting back into art after a looong recess where I didn't have time and fell out of the habit of regular drawing. I'm remembering how I struggle with feet. Hands I love. I can draw hands all day. But feet and shoes, no. I love it when characters wear floor length dresses. Or I go super lazy and have them conveniently standing behind a random crate. >_> I also draw people fairly short. I'm only 5'2, so drawing tall people is very, "But why are their legs so long? Is this normal?!" o_o So artsy folk, what's your drawing nemesis? Same for writing folks, you're pretty much doing art in your head. What do you struggle with visually? Character design? Scene setting?
  8. Here is Isaac's rendition of the khakh glyph! It means "determination" and is a glyph that appears in The Way of Kings as a part of a glyphpair on Amaram's banners.
  9. First of all, thanks to the guys on Discord (particularly @Pagerunner and @Windrunner) for pointing out that a small Ghostblood symbol can be seen among Shallan's sketches of Shadesmar spren. You can check it out in the illustration right before Chapter 108. As someone who tried and failed to guess the nature of the symbol twice (here and here), allow me to post a somewhat cleaner version of the actual symbol for everyone's enjoyment: As you can see, it does reflect both the WoK description ("three diamonds in a pattern, overlapping one another") and the WoR description ("triangle"). Apparently Isaac had to do multiple drafts of the symbol, and we even had a detailed description of one of the candidates that looked totally different from how it eventually ended up. Here's a version of the symbol that shows one way to draw it in one stroke, and I colored it in a way I thought was appropriate (Ghost=grey, Blood=red):
  10. Thanks to Barnes and Noble, we've just had this STUNNING artwork from Oathbringer shared with us. I want to say it's Honor and Cultivation, but it could also be Ishar and Vivenna. Let the theorising begin!
  11. Hey, guys, I've been thinking about this idea for a while now, wondering if anyone's interested and would want to help. I've been wanting to create a Cosmere Trading Card Game. If anyone's interested, let me know, and I'll leave a link to the rules ideas I have so far. I'm okay with art, card design, and game design, but I'm not great, and would appreciate any help I can get! Thanks, everyone!
  12. Hello, I'm a recent addition to this cosmere. I've been listening to Brandon Sanderson's books since I left America in March for my Deployment to Iraq. I've made it through 5 books, and I am excited about the 3rd mistborn book I will read this month, and the third Stormlight Archives book I will read in November when it is released. I have also listened to Warbreaker. However, I want the entire Cosmere in my library, Can someone list ALL of the books from Sanderson's collection in the Cosmere? Also, should I read the short novella Edgedancer before reading the Oathbringer? I have not had an opportunity to get any of the short stories. Also, it seems that Mr. Sanderson is quite involved in his community, where is the best place to keep my finger to feel for his pulse In this community barring social media?
  13. "Vin thrust the spear into the Lord Ruler's chest." And thus ended the Final Empire. I just finished yet another re-read of the first Mistborn book last night. (I like to read books on the worlds I am writing about) and I noticed something really cool that had escaped my notice before. As the Lord Ruler passed, three people stood over his corps in the light of the rising sun. Vin the Mistborn, Sazed the Terrisman Keeper, and Marsh the Inquisitor. Here we see the epitome and figureheads of the three metallic arts. These three are literally the most important people in the Final Empire until the end. They seem to stand in for the powers and investitures of Scadrial. I don't know if this was intentional, but it seemed incredibly symbolic that all three of the metallic arts and their wielders stood together as they rejected their false god. I cannot but feel a respect for the Lord Ruler. He was terrible. He was cruel. He was uncaring. Yet he fought for so long against something greater. Of all the villans in the Sanderson books, he was the one who most needed to fall, and yet the one who deserved the most respect. I find that I love this parting scene, and if I could draw this would certainly be a moment I would like to capture. The only thing I wish was different about the scene... it would be even better if a skaa and a nobleman were present, to represent the rest of the world for the passing of Rashek. This is one of the better endings to a Sanderson book. What other moments are your favorites in the Brandon Sanderson books? What times are crystal clear in your mind?
  14. I would love to see some Sanderson related themes for Firefox/Chrome browsers, has anyone made Sanderson themes?
  15. Hey there fellow fans, I posted up a series of portraits and moment paintings to the 17th Shard Gallery featuring the Kholin family a few months back, but failed to ever mention it in the forums. :/ Thought I'd bring it up now for your viewing pleasure. And if you like 'em enough, I'm selling prints on my online store at gmhansen.storenvy.com. Here's the Gallery post. Cheers!
  16. From the album: Way of Kings Short Film

I met Brandon recently and decided to give him this remastered poster as a gift on canvas. This is now ultra HD, with the 'Linil' glyph stylised properly (Thanks to 17th Shard member BlackYeti for pointing that out), with a less distracting sky and several other small improvements. Enjoy!

  20. Hi everyone! First of all, I hope this is the right sub-forum… I am currently visualizing the environments of The Emperor’s Soul, as a base for my next portfolio project. More specifically, I am starting with Shai’s Room(s), Shai’s Wing of the Palace, and the Emperor’s quarters/wing (more to come!). Also vases/urns and other artifacts that are mentioned in the novella. Here’s my problem. I found a visual style to work with (heavily inspired by Asian architecture of course), but the details are giving me problems. I am working of descriptions like these: I have pretty good references what reliefs and inlays in Temples/Palaces can look like (see attachments), but I do not want to just take images of Chinese patterns, dragon reliefs and folklore and put them on the hallways and urns for TES. I would really like the designs to fit the world. But I am also at a loss what kind of imagery would be used in the Rose Empire (except for a phoenix headbord bed), as the novella doesn’t mention too many (visual) things other than the main plotline. So that’s where I would really appreciate your help! It has been a long time since I read Elantris, but if I understand it correctly, Elantris and Rose Empire don’t really share much other than being on the same world. Would the Anchient Lamio / Rose Empire people integrate Aons in their art and designs? There are hills in the city, and (I think) mountains nearby. That’s a starting point for what people might base their decorations on. But it’s also not really unique to Sanderson’s worlds. I’m a bit at a loss here, and if I can find nothing else, I’ll make up something myself to make it look more than a real world mashup of Chinese Architecture. But if you can help me brainstorm something that would fit the Cosmere, I would appreciate it a lot. What do you imagine the reliefs, inlays, and artifacts/urns and other decorations would depict in the setting of TES?
  21. Hey everyone! I need your help to figure out some things about Inquisitors. I've come up against a bit of a wall trying to decide how to represent a few key things, namely: What exactly do the spikes look like? And what clothes do inquisitors wear? To break this down further, I have a few questions about the spikes. As traditionally depicted, the spikes are so thick that when trying to fit them into the eye socket, most of the surrounding flesh would basically have to be destroyed, which seems like it would wreck havoc on the structure of the face. This made me think that maybe the spikes are thinner than we normally think of them. It would certainly make it easier to drive them through the body quickly and keep freedom of movement. That brings me into the next thing: Do the spikes come in varying shapes? If all the spikes are the same length (and we know that the eye spikes span the length of the head and then some as they stick out the back) then spikes in the arms would stick out so far that the bearer might easily impale himself again. Some spikes might also rub against each other inside the body if they are too long (assuming they are placed symmetrically). Lastly, is the type of metal each spike is made out of apparent? Does a pewter spike look different than a bronze spike? Is the Allomantic symbol stamped onto the front? Are these spikes purely utilitarian or are they more like ceremonial objects, carefully crafted? Do the inquisitors polish their spikes? There are a lot of details that don't come up in bare bones descriptions that I feel should be taken into consideration. Next is clothing. I've seen depictions of inquisitors wearing concealing robes and revealing clothes. It seems like no one knew about any spikes besides the eye spikes outside of the inquisitors themselves, so canonically they probably covered up. But design wise showing the spikes and the musculature would be much more imposing. Moreover, what style of clothing do they wear? They were fighters but also figures in a religious institution so both elements should come to bear. This is the base mesh as it stands right now. I don't know how much of the upper body will be shown so I've basically modeled all of it. Spike placements were taken from Ben McSweeney's (Inkthinker) illustration. This is what I mean with the spike thickness thing. I've seen illustrations that show the eyelids stretched around it, but that might look strange in 3D. And here's a quick moc up of some clothes I made. It looks more jedi ish than I'd like. Quick note/edit: I'm not just looking for textual evidence. WoB, or even straight up speculation or just cool ideas would be awesome. Oh also, feedback on the model in general is appreciated too. Update: Alright It's been a little while and I haven't had too much time to work on it, but here's something I threw together for fun just to get an idea of what the finished product will be like. The detailed sculpt is underway, and this is a quick test render with some textures and added color thrown in. The eye tattoos are pretty bad, so that tells me I need to figure out a better look for those.
  22. So guys, I wasn't sure where to ask this so I'll just put it here. I'd really like to hang a few Cosmere related posters up in my bedroom. The thing is, I cant find any store or site that sell them. Sure there are a handful of posters on Brandon's site and I've checked them out but does anyone know any sites with more variety? Thanks for your time guys
  23. So, I know there's a gallery, but it only allows you to post one picture at a time, and I thought it would be a cool idea to share fanart illustrations I've done. SA is really colourful and reads like a graphic novel in my head sometimes, and I like creating character designs after finishing a book. Inspired by many many years of watching cartoons, as you can probably tell. Feel free to ask questions, give feedback, or whatever. This is just my take on SA, so artistic license disclaimer. Click to open spoilers, click picture to open up full size. Illustrated scenes "Visions from God" "Honor is Dead" "Lashed to the Ceiling" "Blossoms and Cake" "The Chasms are Mine" Character portraits "Kaladin" "Dalinar" "Navani" "Jasnah" "Shallan" "Adolin" "Renarin" Character designs "The Kholins" "Shardplate Proportions" "Dalinar and Navani" "Eshonai and Szeth" "PoV Portraits" "Frenemies" Shallan's sketchbook pages "AK + SD" "Stormfather" "Unconscious Brother" "Oathgate" "Adolin" "More Adolin" Silly stuff "Arena Groupies" "Eshonai the Explorer" "Mornings" "Kaladin Valentine" "Adolin Valentine" The end!
  24. Sooo... I tried to find some nice pictures of Cosmere-equivalents of banhammers... And was terrified to find there were none! No solid blocks of black steel on a long handle Awakened to "Destroy spoilers". No glowing Shardhammers of the Knights Admin. No stylized Aon Reo or Aon Kii. Is somebody interested in creating such things? I can pay in upvotes and gratitude.
