  1. Hello! I am Alex Mulham, also known as Rapier. I am a superhuman, a relatively new phenomon in 1903. I work as a private eye in a shadier district of London. I do investigation, and can fight if needed, 'cause my powers are best suited for combat. I charge a opening fee of 15 pounds, then 7 pounds a day. All travel expenses in a job are paid for by the client. A bit about myself. I am English/French, grew up in Chamonix, moved to London, and here I am. Powers..... I can take objects and increase their size and strength, while retaining previous weight. I do this to my rapier. As a side bonus, increased agility and reflexes is on the plate as well. Well? Lets have some Q's!
  2. Given that the opportunity arised might as well give other people the chance to ask anything they might want to know about little unimportant old me.
  3. I guess I have been on here long enough to start of of these now. So ask me anything.
  4. Figured I should get around to doing one of these. The title's kind of self-explanatory, so just ask me anything!
  5. It's the most wonderful time of year again, Brandon has just released a book and the fandom is buzzing. That's right, today Shadows of Self and the 10th Anniversary Edition of Elantris have finally released! Not only that but they are pretty storming awesome. I'm still reeling from a marathon reading session of Shadows of Self (that ending, oh Harmony). If you are still on the fence on whether you want to get either of them check out our spoiler free review of Shadows of Self and our coverage on the Anniversary Edition and its beautiful new maps. Really though, just go and get them now. Once you've read the books you can join in on the discussion in our reaction threads for Shadows of Self and Elantris. In other news Ben McSweeney is doing a reddit AMA over in /r/fantasy today, the question thread is already up here. Ben is a fantastic artist who has worked on a lot of Brandon-related projects. He's done the Shallan's Sketchbook pages for Stormlight, illustrations and covers for the Mistborn Adventure Game, and illustrations for the Rithmatist. Not to mention he worked on the broadsheets in Alloy of Law and Shadows of Self. Please go and give him some love by doing what we Brandon fans do best, ask questions. Brandon is also currently in the midst of a twitter chat with iBooks about Shadows of Self, check out his profile feed for his responses. Check out our forum topics here to discuss Ben's AMA, and here for the iBook twitter chat.
  6. I have been somewhat tentative about starting an AMA because it seems rather self-centered and I wanted to ask you all questions as well. However, I came up with an idea that seems to mitigate this effect. If you ask me a question, I will answer it and, in return, make sure that I ask you a question. If you have an AMA, I'll probably do it there, if not, this thread should work. I'll still try to ask questions of my own volition, but this can be a dialogue thread. Disclaimer:
  7. Shadows of Self is officially less than a month away! (Check our post here to see Brandon's tour schedule.) With the hype starting to tick up Tor.com has posted Chapter 3 (following their release of the prologue and Chapters 1 and 2 a couple months ago). Check the preview out here! (Do note that a version of this was posted as part of 2013's Steelhunt, but this does cover the last of the Steelhunt excerpt. So if anymore previews are posted it will be entirely new material.) In other news Ben McSweeney, cosmere artist extraordinaire, will be doing an AMA over on reddit at /r/fantasy on October 6 (i.e. the release day for Shadows of Self). Ben is the artist responsible for Shallan's Sketchbook pages in The Stormlight Archive, the broadsheets in The Alloy of Law (and Shadows of Self), artwork for Crafty Games' Mistborn Adventure Game, as well as being the illustrator for The Rithmatist. Check out our forum topics here to discuss the chapter preview, or here to discuss Ben's AMA!
  8. Welcome to the Sanderson Elimination AMA! We (Gamma Fiend, Little Wilson, and Metacognition) are the Mods of the Sanderson Elimination games on the forum. We’ve been running, maintaining, and keeping things amazingly civil considering this is a game where we all wind up trying to kill each other for over a year already and we look forward to many more years of fun and mayhem! Since the AMA’s have become so popular, we thought this would be a good way to explain what our games are and how you can get involved; as well as a wonderful resource for newer players to get their specific questions answered by the Sanderson Elimination Mods. Or if you just want to get to know us better! That said, this is also really for anyone that is curious about the Sanderson Elimination games and to ask those burning questions you might have for us as officiators of the games or individually as people. If you’re unfamiliar with the games, our General Rules thread answers a lot of those questions, but we’re happy to answer questions in here as well. We’re open to almost* any kind of question. To give you some idea of the questions that we’re typically asked that we would love to answer: What are the games and how do I join? Are there expectations for new players? What is a meta-game and how does it work? What’s the deal with these threat levels and some player’s reputations? Which of Brandon’s books is your favorite? What is the dichotomy between good and evil? What is that weird looking mark on my back? What’s your favorite Pokemon? Be Creative! Really, ask us anything!* *Well, almost anything…. While we are completely fine answering a wide range of questions on almost any topic there is, there are, of course, a few that we either can’t answer or won’t be able to comment on: We can’t discuss anything happening within a game that is currently being played. Sorry. Even with as careful as we will try to be not to give anything away, we still could slip up and we don’t want to ruin the integrity of the games by giving people an unfair advantage. Those questions should be directed at the GM of that particular game or to the Impartial Mod for that game. Anything that’s too personal (for example, asking us our bank account numbers and such) will either be answered with maximum snark or not at all; though most likely answered with snark. We’re evil like that. That’s pretty much it. Thanks in advance for your participation in this. We look forward to answering any questions any of you may have. And don’t worry so much! We only brutally murder people in the games. We’re actually quite nice, so ask away! (For the record, I’ll only be accepting questions based off of the First Generation of Pokemon. And the answer is Jolteon.)
  9. I think there's a lot of misinformation (and unknown cool stuff) about Australia, so if you have any burning questions about the land down under, fire away (Other Aussies feel free to jump in.) If you feel like asking me stuff unrelated to Australia that's fine too.
  10. But we are not in Urteau. Hello, inquisitive Steel Inquisitors. Inquire away in a steely manner. Seriously, feel free to ask me about my views on speculative fiction, Computer Science, math, cosmology, Pokemon, linguistics, food, religion, the Philippines, music, and general geek culture. Or better yet, just ask me anything. I'll try to answer serious questions as honestly and as completely as I can. Oh, and joke questions may or may not get bizarre/surreal answers, depending on my mood and your Hindu horoscope for the day.
  11. So it seems that in my brief time away from 17S, AMAs have become a thing. Just in case anyone was curious about anything, I'll go ahead and throw my empty hat into the ring. Anyone interested in asking some questions? Let's do this, sounds fun!
  12. My AMA. Ask me about food, LDS-ism, my college major, movies, my exalted opinions on everything. I will answer. (This is just in case anybody's interested)
  13. I guess I'll start one of these too. I go through periods of inactivity though, so if I don't answer right away, I'm not ignoring you.
  14. Jumping on the bandwagon here and though I'm sure everyone wants to ask me about my secret cookie recipe I thought an AMA for the RPers of the What happened in Oregon roleplay might be of more interest. So, ask us anything. What's with the ponies, why are there so many pugs, how did you all seemingly lose your minds at the same exact time? Or you could ask us what our favorite Epic is or something boring like that.
  15. I mean anything. I love answering questions. I think. I don't expect a lot...I'm not that popular...but it appears to be all the rage to do an AMA now.
  16. Apparently this is a thing. So I'll do one as well. Ask me things so that I can blatantly lie and/or mock you. Or occasionally, I'll even tell the truth.
  17. My AMA. As anything, I'll answer. Marvel, religion, and Star Wars are greatly appreciated. Any questions?
  18. As the title indicates, this is a little different than most AMAs. Ask me anything, and then the next person answers as if they were me. If I like it, I'll add it to the "about me" portion of my profile. Ever wanted to make random crap up about someone? Now's your chance.
  19. Here is a quote from the pretty recent AMA on reddit. "Boy, I do get this one a lot. I'm wary of saying anything until Calamity is out, not because Regalia's weakness is specifically relevant, but because I've found that even the most innocent of things I say can sometimes lead to spoilers. The nature of the weaknesses is a big part of the three book arc of the Reckoners, so I don't want to hurt anything. That said, as I mentioned, Regalia's weakness is not actually relevant. I've just been avoiding the question for reasons stated above. Regalia's weakness was being proven wrong. If you could figure out something she'd done incorrectly, and prove it to her so she couldn't avoid the truth, she'd briefly lose local control of her powers. But I didn't want that book to be about figuring out/using her weakness, in order to distinguish it from books one and three, which use that as the major plot. So I avoided bringing up the idea, or really even using it in the story at all." Pretty interesting, eh? My theory is that Regalia(Edit: who was a judge) would not want to sentence an innocent or pardon a guilty person, and thus she was extremely scared of being wrong. But I think that isn't all. Sourcefield wasn't just scared or Kool-Aid, they almost died because of it. Perhaps Regalia helped free a serial killer?
