  1. So we know that when a regular person burns lerasium their connection with Preservation is increased drastically and they become a mistborn. However is this the same effect we'd expect to see if an allomancer were to burn lerasium? Presumabely a misting would become a powerful mistborn, or would they instead just become a very powerful misting? This seems unlikely as we know that the difference between becoming a misting or a mistborn is in the strength of your bloodline and thus your connection to preservation. So presumably when their connection to preservation increases they too would become a mistborn. However, what about a mistborn? Would they become a stronger mistborn? Stronger than a regular lerasium mistborn since they already have the basis for their power? Or would they, since they can already burn all metals, be able to experience another effect whih is the true power of lerasium and the connection to preservation is simply a side effect? I welcome your thoughts on the matter.
  2. So i was thinking about some creative ways to use the metallic arts and i came up with a really cool, if what morbid use for aluminium. Because an allomancer can burn any metal in their bloodstream, its reasonable to say that if an aluminium gnat or a mistborn were stabbed by anything metal they could burn aluminium to destroy the object, as it would count as a metal reserve. To be even more ridiculous, if an aluminium gnat held an open wound to a piece of metal and there's still blood flow through the wound, they would probably be able to destroy the 'metal reserve' that the object represents. Pair this use with say feruchemical gold to make the required injuries less life-threatening and you've got yourself a very interesting, if macabre twinborn. This is all assuming that the functionality of allomantic aluminium to burn away the reserves of all metals present is conserved in an aluminium gnat.
  3. As we know, TLR used compounded feruchemical atium to drastically increase his lifespan. As I've come to further understand the nature of compounding, I've begun to wonder whether he would ever have run out of age? Would he not be able to say, wear an atium ring, tap a fair amount of age from his existing atiumminds, fill said age directly into the ring, swallow the ring and burn it multiplying the amount stored, then rinse and repeat? This would theoretically give him unlimited age as long as he still had some age stored somewhere. If I've gotten anything wrong or my understanding of compounding is flawed, then please let me know. Otherwise, I welcome your thoughts.
  4. Could a single mistborn levitate a metal object by pushing and pulling on it at fhe same time? I tried looking on Arcanum but didnt really see anything that helped me. Currently reading Shadows of Self so i’m probably just rushing ahead of myself.
  5. Alright so quick conversation starter: what do we think the emotional metals have to do with the cognitive realm? We know that wearing an aluminum lines hat around your head prevents the effects, as well as burning copper, but what would happen if you tried to sooth or riot szeth? Someone who is partially in the cognitive realm. Can you affect Spren? If both you and your target are in the cognitive realm will there be a visible effect when you sooth? I’d just like to know more about the cognitive side of emotional allomancy. If there is one. Forgive the format and hastyness I am writing this in class on my phone and didn’t want to forget it!
  6. So this started out as a thought experiment and I wanted to get input on it from the Shard. It is only a matter of time (in my opinion) before we see a coinshot or mistborn running around with a shardblade. If my theory is correct, then scadrian shardblades will be keyed to one of the 16 allomantic metals. What would each metal's blades look like? would they act like the Bands of Mourning and grant the powers of that metal? Or would they do something else? Please give me you input.
  7. Time for a speculation thread! Ignore for a moment the financial implications of having that much atium on hand. Let's imagine that there was someone, either a Mistborn or a Seer, who had burned enough atium to warp their spiritual aspect and become a savant. What sorts of things could they do with atium that normal burners could not? I imagine they'd be able to extend the length of the atium shadows they saw far into the future. But presumably prolonged exposure to that much concentrated power of a Shard might have additional unexpected effects. And I'm almost positive that one drawback of atium savantism would be an increased suceptibility to Ruin or another Shard's influence. Are godmetal savants even possible?
  8. A thought recently came to me. It has been mentioned that of all of the current cosmere stuff, Sixth of the Dusk is the latest, chronologically, in-world. The Ones Above are theorized to be spacefaring Scadrians from MB Era 4. They appear connected. Of the Aviar powers we've seen, they seem remarkably similar to Allomantic abilities. Aviar that show your death are similar to both atium and electrum, whilst Aviar that shield your mind are reminiscent of copper. There are predators like nightmaws that have an ability similar to that of bronze. Basically, that parasite over at Patji's eye is animalian Allomancy. You eat it, you gain Allomantic powers that are similar to human ones. This seems plausible, but do you fine folks see any holes in this?
  9. We know that Kelsier was able to defeat a Steel Inquisitor at the top of his game, and that Vin + Elland were able to do it reliably. But say you had a unit of normal soldiers that were trained to, working together, defeat a Steel Inquisitor. How many of them would it take to kill a Steel Inquisitor? Also, we need a name for them so we can make it sound like a 'screwing in a light bulb' joke.
  10. What is the distinguishing feature (if any) that determines if a metal has an allomantic use or not? Is there a patterns or system that determines which metals/alloys work? Or is it just the will of Brandon and what he likes? I haven't heard or seen this addressed before although I'm sure it's come up in the past. Thanks
  11. So it's made very clear that Allomancers can be either Mistborn or Mistings - no inbetween. You either get one power, or you get all of them. However, it's also been stated that burning an alloy of lerasium and a metal makes you into a misting of that metal. So what would happen if you were to burn multiple, different alloys of lerasium - would all the investiture you burn compound and enhance one ability? Would they override each other, "wasting" the lerasium you previously burned? Would they merge and form a new allomantic ability entirely? Or would they have the intended effect and make you a "polymisting" of the metals that were chosen? Or, is it something else entirely?
  12. Okay, so we know that Ferrings come from the mixing of allomancy genes and feruchemist genes, which result in the possibility of a single feruchemical power instead of the full set, just like you can the full allomantic suite, or just one power. What I don't know is the full effects of that mixing--if someone was a full mistborn, by inheritance and not Lerasium, and they also inherited feruchemical genes, would they necessarily be fullborn, because they didn't have the gene set for one allomantic ability to affect the feruchemical inheritance, or would it possible for someone just to be a mistborn and a gold feruchemist, for instance? Or vice versa--could someone be a full feruchemist and a misting, or would their being a misting prevent them from being a full feruchemist and they would just end up twinborn? I presume if someone was just a ferring, or just a twinborn, and then consumed Lersasium, they would become mistborn, and would keep their one feruchemical ability, but wouldn't become fullborn, but maybe they would? And/or maybe the one allomantic ability they already had would be supercharged like vin with bronze, albeit in a different way?
  13. Does a copper cloud protect the user from other applications of investiture? A copper cloud prevents a seeker from sensing the use of investiture in it's area. Burning copper protects the allomancer from emotional allomancy. Does a copper cloud provide protection against other uses of investiture? For example, does burning copper protect the allomancer from being soulcast? Does burning copper protect the allomancer from a leacher? Does burning copper interfere with a blood sealer's ability to track you?
  14. wiresegal Could someone burn an Allomantically inert metal that was Invested, like Invested silver or Invested lead? Brandon Sanderson I'm gonna give you a no on this one. I rarely give straight up "no"s, but you've got to remember that the Allomantic metal is the key, and the power behind it is gonna be inaccessible without the key. Now, there are more things that are Allomantically viable than have been discovered or talked about. But that's the problem right there. If it's not the right metal, if it doesn't provide the right... I'll just stop at key. If it isn't the right key. We'll get more into this as the Cosmere progresses. That's a very rare no for me. Usually you're gonna get a "well, it depends." source This new WOB jumped out at me a little. We know that you can burn feruchemically charged metal, god-metal alloys, and hemalurgical spikes for different allomantic effects. Knowledge about burning a metalmind is now widespread. There is at least one instance in-universe of burning a god-metal alloy. And at this point, there isn't any in-universe mention of burning hemalurgic spikes. Do you think that when Brandon says, "there are more things that are Allomantically viable than have been discovered or talked about" that these are the only things that he is referring to, or are there even more things that might be allomantically viable? I haven't give it much thought yet, but here are a couple of off the cuff thoughts. Folowing the example of burning metalminds and hemalugic spikes, I'm thinking about what other magic systems might have an effect. -People have already talked about burning shard blades (and shard plate?) -People have talked about burning god metals of other shards -What about awakened metal? You would have to start with an allomantic metal, but what happens if you try to burn an allomantic metal that has been awakened? This seems somewhat similar to burning a hemalurgic spike since in both cases you are burning a metal invested with parts os a person's spirit web. -What about metal that has had an Aon inscribed? Does it matter if you are near Elantris, or if the allomancer is an Elantrian? -What about a metal that doesn't merely have an Ion inscribed, but has an active Aon on it?
  15. I'll keep this simple. You can spike out allomancy from someone soulstamped to be an allomancer. But there were reservations about how viable that is. But a delicious new WoB indicates stamping someone to temporarily be an allomancer is easier than we thought because fooling the magic via Connection and Identity is not so hard. Manufacturing allomancers has moved into the realm of reasonable. Long live Forgery, the Cosmere's most delicious low-investiture magic. Long live Shai's unstoppable army of allomancers.
  16. I've been playing around with ideas as to how to overcome atium, and I've thought that perhaps a feruchemist tapping steel would be able to exploit the fact that atium still relies on your reactions. An allomancer burning atium would see your atium shadow, but if a feruchemist were tapping enough steel then perhaps they would be able to move too fast for even the enhanced mind that atium provides to comprehend. I got this idea when I was reading Sazed's fight with Marsh. There was a point where he was moving too fast for Marsh to react, so perhaps if he were to use that same technique, but tapping more steel, on someone burning atium then perhaps it would work. I welcome your thoughts.
  17. How exactly did Rashek become as powerful as he did? Yes, his feruchemy was enhanced via compounding but that doesn't explain his immense strength as a mistborn. Nor was the fact that he became mistborn from lerasium because even Elend wasn't as strong as he. Was his power a result of a strong connection to preservation after ascending? If that's the case then why wasn't Vin uber strong after ascension? Or was he simply a savant in all metals, using feruchemy to heal the negative effects of his savantism? I welcome your input.
  18. So my question is, what causes a person to be born as a mistborn as opposed to a misting? Is it simply random chance that you are a mistborn and not a misting? Is it influenced by the strength and purity of your noble bloodline or lineage? The potency of the bloodline has some credit since Kar makes a mention of Vin having to have very pure bloodlines to be as strong as she is (that is paraphrased from memory so I may be mistaken). And it could be possible that Kelsier had a pure bloodline on his noble side. However, this is challenged by the fact that there are many pure blood nobles who aren't mistborn. So perhaps it's a combination of the two? Or a factor I haven't considered. Anyway, I welcome your thoughts.
  19. Cost aside, what would an Aluminum Misting having burnt enough aluminum to become a savant do? Does aluminum even stick around instead of vanishing like all the other metals if you burn it? Would you somehow become more resistant to all forms of Investiture? That would be pretty funny. Stormlight spoilers:
  20. Hey,so,I'm going as a Mistborn for the Dublin Comic-con and I was wondering. What Noble Houses have enough Allomantic genes to get a Mistborn. You know, besides the Mistborn we already know about?
  21. I've been thinking about mechanical engineering on Scadrial and was hoping someone could set me straight so that I can daydream accurately: First, and more simply, would it be reasonable to assume that a Lurcher could potentially learn to use an "Iron Bubble" a la Wax's "Steel Bubble", whereby they Pull on all metals around them generically? Second, when Allomancers use Iron and Steel could a sheet of aluminum effectively block other metals from the iron/steel sight by "line of sight" (from the chest, of course ) alone or would the aluminum have to completely encapsulate the other metal to hide it from iron/steel sight? Clarifying questions to second, assuming answer is "line of sight" as I suspect: Would the thickness of the aluminum be a factor in the ability to detect metal on the other side of it?

    Seeking on Roshar

I was up late last night and an interesting question popped into my head. I know we probably don't have enough information to actually answer it, but would a Bronze misting on Roshar hear the Rhythms?
  23. Saikyk

    Quick Question

Ok so I'm not sure if this was addressed in the books and I'm just dumb, but I have a quick thing to ask about iron and steel allomancy: When Allomancers push or pull metals, do they push/pull toward the center of their body always, or are they able to decide which part of their body the metal is pushing/pulling towards(i.e. like a lurcher can pull a coin to either hand)
  24. If someone was a full Feruchemist and Allomancer and put up either a bendalloy or cadmium bubble and tried to fill a metalmind with speed, what would happen? Would it fill to your own personal time speed, the world around you, or not at all? Hope no one’s asked this yet.
