  1. What would happen if you were to, hypothetically, burn duralumin and aluminium at the same time while also burning another metal?
  2. So I created an account just so I could pose this questions to everyone. Be warned, Oathbringer spoilers here! ---- We now have scenes from Oathbringer (as well as WoB) demonstrating the use of one type of investiture to fuel a different off world sub-type of magic (ex. Szeth using stormlight to fuel Nightblood rather than breath). Now that Hoid is Knight Radiant in addition to a fully powered lerasium mistborn what sort of effect would stormlight have fueling allomancy? We see Kaladain receive a renewing supply of energy flying at the front of the everstorm and Szeth able to unleash the full effects of Nightblood without having to utilize biochromatic breath. Would stormlight act as a "metal supply" for Hoid? And if so, would it also potentially fuel him with an "atium reserve", possibly even a renewing one if he was near the everstorm? Conversely what sort of effect would metal vials have fueling surgebinding?
  3. Aluminum is internal pulling, and removes the user's metal reserves. Duralumin is the internal pushing, and burns the user's metal reserves in a single, super powerful flare. Chromium is the external pushing, and removes the touched target's metal reserves, and Nicrosil is the external pulling and burn's the touched target's metal reserves in a single, super powerful flare. Why are the internal/external pairs so similar? None of the other quadrants are that similar. The internal physical metals enhance strength and senses, but the external physical metals don't enhance other's strength/senses. Copper and bronze are wildly different from zinc and brass. Gold shows you your past or alternate self (personally I think shows a change in Identity, but that's a theory for later); it's not like cadmium shows you another person's past... that's what malatium does... huh. Is there a reason for this? I know Harmony and Preservation changed around Allomancy, is this an artifact for that, or just a weird coincidence?
  4. Ok, friends, I apologize if this has already been discussed before. I searched for a post about it and couldn't find one, so I figured I'd open the discussion if it doesn't already exist. I've been noticing what I feel to be a quiet trend going on in the Cosmere - Silver. I would like your opinions on what this could mean or if i'm just plain crazy. Silver is not always in a meaningful spot within the Cosmere (clothing, decor, etc)... but when it does appear in a meaningful role, it seems to work the same way throughout the Cosmere. Considering how often Silver makes an appearance, it seems apparent that the metal is present on all of the cosmere worlds... some of those worlds seem to have discovered its very special uses and effects. Just to name a few key examples of silver making notable appearances within the Cosmere: Nalthis - Nightblood's sheath. To contain Nightblood's immense powers and abilities, he is kept within a silver sheath. When Nightblood is even slightly released from this sheath, his power is also released and he influences his surroundings. Like taking the cap off of something that kept him "bottled" up. Threnody - Silence Montane's dagger. Silver (weapons/dust) is the only thing on Threnody known to touch/harm/ward against shades... hence Silence's silver dagger. Silver can even heal a whither wound that has recently been caused by a shade. Silver on Threnody is widely known and coveted because of its effectiveness against shades. This is important because shades are, presumably, connected to/from/part of the spiritual realm. And yet silver is the one known defense that can touch/fight/resist them without ill effect. Scadrial - Electrum. I've always wondered why silver itself wasn't technically an allomantic metal... it seems like it should be. It does, however, show up in the Silver+Gold alloy known as Electrum. As near as I can tell, Electrum is the only metal of the 16 metals that is powerful enough to neutralize a God Metal (Atium) in another allomancer. "Thank you, Silver... because without you, Gold alone would only let me see my possible past self. With you, however, I can see all of my future selves - disabling Atium's advantage for its user. Whew!" Silver saves the day again! Roshar - Shardplate, shardblades, (and half-shards?). The shardplate(s) and shardblades of Roshar are repeatedly referred to as silver. Let's start with a few quotes. WoK Prologue mentioned Szeth's honorblade: "Szeth turned and continued on his way, slippered feet falling on the soft red rug. The Shardblade, as always, glistened silver and clean." ... and before that, the WoK Prelude mentioned shardplate itself: "Juxtaposed between them were others in gleaming plate armor. One group walked past, four men in their ragged tanned skins or shoddy leather joining a powerful figure in beautiful silver plate, amazingly intricate. Such a contrast." Along with many MANY other examples and quotes throughout WoK and WoR that (other than paint and ornamentation) repeatedly refer to Shardplate and shardblades as silver or "silvery metal." Crazy questions: In keeping with this silver theory here, is this what spren become when they transform into shardblades?...do they imitate/become silver? Could this be why shardblades can block/hit other shardblades and yet cut through everything else as if it wasn't even there? When the Vedens manufactured "half-shards," were they made of silver? Shallan encountered a keyhole at the Oathgate (at the end of WoR) that was "made of the same stuff" as a shardblade, as she put it. It doesn't seem implied that a spren had transformed into said keyhole... but rather unlike shardblades, no spren was involved. I theorize that no spren is necessary for this "stuff" (silver?) to exist in the physical realm. Therefore, the keyhole could possibly be made of simple silver. It's possible that the Vedens have managed to create their half-shards simply by discovering the proper metal to use when forging them. 1.) Have some Veden smiths forge shields of silver. 2.) Power the shield with infused gemstones (just like shardplate). 3.) and VIOLA! ...Half-Shard? ... Crazy crazy questions bouncing around my head. At any rate, one thing that seems certain to me is that silver is very special within the cosmere. It's possible that its effects and influence span across all three realms at once! I'm not saying that everything described as "silver" or "silvery" has some profound meaning behind it... but there might just be a bit of a cosmere-sized trend here. To me, if there really is a trend, it seems that silver can "counter" powers within the cosmere. Like shielding nightblood, touching/harming shades, mixing with gold to allow an allomancer to negate the effects of atium, stopping/blocking a shardblade's attack, etc... If anyone in the Cosmere knows what's going on, it's Hoid... and even he keeps a silver sword handy. "Wit picked his way through the groups of attendants, holding a cup of wine in one hand, silver sword belted at his side." "Wit sat on a raised stool at the end of the bridge leading onto the island. Wit actually dressed as a lighteyes should—he wore a stiff black uniform, silver sword at his waist." Seems like Hoid knows something about the benefits and usefulness of silver that we don't. Can you guys think of anymore examples? ...or am I crazy? What does silver mean to the Cosmere?
  5. Okay, how do are Mistborn influenced by power lines? I would imagine on the larger, full metal powerlines it would act like the spike-ways from era 1, except better, because they're everywhere! But could you potentially fly based on the powerlines? Pushing continuously on the middle wire, while using the side wires to balance and control your direction. What do you think?
  6. Hey everyone I'm new to these forums but I had a few questions that I wanted to ask that I got from reading the original Mistborn trilogy as well as the newer Wax and Wayne books. My first question has to do with the way the preservation used the mists in The Hero of Ages to snap allomancers. If my memory serves me correctly, (and please do correct me if I'm wrong cus it's been a while) 1/16th of those who fell ill to the mists became especially sick. Those who became especially sick turned out to be atium mistings. We later learn however that atium is not one of the 16 base metals, but one of the God metals. This means that there are at least 17 possible mistings. Shouldn't 1/17th of those who fell to the mists become atium mistings then? Also, what about malatium, is it possible to have a malatium misting? And finally, what about lerasium, is it possible to have an alloy of lerasium?
  7. On another forum I wanted people to try and guess my avatar. It was the allomantic tin symbol. Someone guessed it. (sorta) he said "Blades and Beasts, tin". I'm like ?? So I search it, and this comes up. http://bladesandbeasts.wikia.com/wiki/Atium#Atium By this point I'm thoroughly confused. please help me understand what I'm seeing. I'm going through looking at the metals, and some look interesting. Like this "Argentum" it seems to store kinetic energy. Also this "Vibranium" feruchemy seems like an interesting idea. Is it like a fan thingy? Side note: I have no idea where to put this thread.
  8. Don't know if this is already common knowledge or whatever, so here goes nothing: We know that in Allomancy and Feruchemy, getting powers are an all or nothing thing. You're a misting or Mistborn, a ferring or Keeper (what's the proper term for full Feruchemist?). My question is this: is it possible to be a Mistborn and a ferring, or a Keeper and a misting? Thanks.
  9. Does anyone have anything to add to any of these? Perhaps Hemalurgical differences? They can be used to pass both Feruchemy and Allomancy correct? I distinctly remember them Only able to take one power at a time, which is why they prefer to take Mistings instead of Mistborn to create Steel Inquisitors. So does that mean that in theory someone out there? Possibly Marsh? Has All possible combinations? Is this answered in Era 2? I'm halfway through the second book. Which means there is still quite a lot of explanation to go I'm sure. Does anyone have any insight to offer that doesn't spoil Era 2? Haha! Please just give me a Rafo if there is a further in depth explanation further on. Again please leave all spoilers out for Mistborn Era 2. As I'm just not quite there yet. Is there anyone who can perhaps link to some kind of Infographic "If there is one" or a Table of some kind that explains more and perhaps possible Twin Born Combinations? I'm sure there are quite a few, Even a few that can no longer be identified "Currently", because to my knowledge Atium is all gone. lol. LIST OF METALS ALUMINUM: A Mistborn who burns aluminum instantly metabolizes all of his or her metals without giving any other effect, wiping all Allomantic reserves. Mistings who can burn aluminum are called Aluminum Gnats due to the ineffectiveness of this ability by itself. Trueself Ferrings can store their spiritual sense of identity in an aluminum metalmind. This is an art rarely spoken of outside of Terris communities, and even among them, it is not yet well understood. Aluminum itself and a few of its alloys are Allomantically inert; they cannot be Pushed or Pulled and can be used to shield an individual from emotional Allomancy. BENDALLOY: Slider Mistings burn bendalloy to compress time in a bubble around themselves, making it pass more quickly within the bubble. This causes events outside the bubble to move at a glacial pace from the point of view of the Slider. Subsumer Ferrings can store nutrition and calories in a bendalloy metalmind; they can eat large amounts of food during active storage without feeling full or gaining weight, and then can go without the need to eat while tapping the metalmind. A separate bendalloy metalmind can be used to similarly regulate fluids intake. BRASS: Soother Mistings burn brass the soothe (dampen) the emotions of nearby individuals. This can be directed at a single individual or directed across a general area, and the Soother can focus on specific emotions. Firesoul Ferrings can store warmth in a brass metalmind, cooling themselves off while actively storing. They can tap the metalmind at a later time to warm themselves. BRONZE: Seeker Mistings burn brass to "hear" pulses given off by other Allomancers who are burning metals. Different metals produce different pulses. Sentry Ferrings can store wakefulness in a bronze metalmind, making themselves drowsy while actively storing. They can tap the metalmind at a later time to reduce drowsiness or to heighten their awareness. CADMIUM: Pulser Mistings burn cadmium to stretch time in a bubble around themselves, making it pass more slowly inside the bubble. This causes events outside the bubble to move at blurring speed from the point of view of the Pulser. Gasper Ferrings can store breath inside a cadmium metalmind; during active storage they must hyperventilate in order for their bodies to get enough air. The breath can be retrieved at a later time, eliminating or reducing the need to breathe using the lungs while tapping the metalmind. They can also highly oxygenate their blood. CHROMIUM: Leecher Mistings who burn chromium while touching another Allomancer will wipe that Allomancer's metal reserves. Spinner Ferrings can store fortune in a chromium metalmind, making themselves unlucky during active storage, and can tap it at a later time to increase their luck. COPPER: Coppercloud Mistings (also known as Smokers) burn copper to create an invisible cloud around themselves, which hides nearby Allomancers from being detected by a Seeker and which shields nearby individuals from the effects of emotional Allomancy. Archivist Ferrings can store memories in a copper metalmind (coppermind); the memory is gone from their head while in storage, and can be retrieved with perfect recall at a later time. DURALUMIN: A Mistborn who burns duralumin instantly burns away any other metals being burned at the same time, releasing an enormous bursts of those metals' power. Mistings who can burn Duralumin are called Duralumin Gnats due to the ineffectiveness of this ability by itself. Connector Ferrings can store spiritual connection in a duralumin metalmind, reducing other people's awareness and friendship with them during active storage, and can tap it at a later time in order to speedily form trust relationships with others. ELECTRUM: Oracle Mistings burn electrum to see a vision of possible paths their future could take. This is usually limited to a few seconds. Pinnacle Ferrings can store determination in an electrum metalmind, entering a depressed state during active storage, and can tap it at a later time to enter a manic phase. GOLD: Auger Mistings burn gold to see a vision of a past self or how they would have turned out having made different choices in the past. Bloodmaker Ferrings can store health in a gold metalmind, reducing their health while actively storing, and can tap it at a later time in order to heal quickly or to heal beyond the body's usual abilities. IRON: Lurcher Mistings who burn iron can Pull on nearby sources of metal. Pulls must be directly toward the Lurcher's center of gravity. Skimmer Ferrings can store physical weight in an iron metalmind., reducing their effective weight while actively storing, and can tap it at a later time to increase their effective weight. NICROSIL: Nicroburst Misitings who burn nicrosil while touching another Allomancer will instantly burn away any metals being burned by that Allomancer, releasing an enormous (and perhaps unexpected) burst of those metals' power within that Allomancer. Soulbearer Ferrings can store Investiture in a nicrosil metalmind. This is a power that very few know anything about; indeed, I'm certain the people of Terris don't truly know what they are doing when they use these powers. PEWTER: Pewterarm Mistings (also known as Thugs) burn pewter to increase their physical strength, speed, and durability, also enhancing their bodies' ability to heal. Brute Ferrings can store physical strength in a pewter metalmind, reducing their strength while actively storing, and can tap it at a later time to increase their strength. STEEL: Coinshot Mistings who burn steel can Push on nearby sources of metal. Pushes must be directly away from the Coinshot's center of gravity. Steelrunner Ferrings can store physical speed in a steel metalmind, slowing them while actively storing, and can tap it at later time to increase their speed. TIN: Tineye Mistings who burn tin increase the sensitivity of their five senses. All are increased at the same time. Windwhisperer Ferrings can store the sensitivity of one of the five sense in a tin metalmind; a different tin metalmind must be used for each sense. While storing, their sensitivity in that sense is reduced, and when the metalmind is tapped that sense is enhanced. ZINC: Rioter Mistings burn zinc to riot (enflame) the emotions of nearby individuals. This can be directed at a single individual or directed across a general area, and the Rioter can focus on specific emotions. Sparker Ferrings can store mental speed in a zinc metalmind, dulling their ability to think and reason while actively storing, and can tap it at a later time to think and reason more quickly.
  10. I can never tell if what I'm thinking has already been thought, posted, or if it's just plain stupid on my part. I seem to remember reading a WoB that said that, as you can enhance Feruchemy with Allomancy, i.e. compounding, you can also enhance your Allomancy with Feruchemy. What I'm wondering if it is possible to, as the title suggests, store Allomantic power into Feruchemy. For instance, could you burn pewter and store the A-Pewter's balance and strength into a metalmind? Could you tap it while burning more pewter? Could you eat that metalmind and then compound A-Pewter instead of F-Pewter? Now, Feruchemy works by storing internal attributes. A-Pewter enhances internal attributes, so that would make sense for you to be able to mix those a little bit. I doubt what I say next is possible, but I might as well put it out there. Could you, assuming everything else I've said is true and possible, store an external metal like A-Steel or A-Iron in the same way you would do with the A-Pewter? I want to hear your guys's(?"guys's"?) thoughts on this since I, like I believe most avid Sanderfans are, am slightly (or not so slightly) insane. Thanks for your feedback beforehand!
  11. Intro A new WoB was just recenly posted on the forums and I wanted to write up my thoughts on it, including a theory that has been in my head for a while. Let me know what you guys think! New WoB A sharder ( @Bugsy6912) recently posted on the 17th Shard Discord a WoB that he had gotten. Read it below: Analysis+Theory This is a super interesting Realmatics question. We dont really have much information on how time works in the Spiritual Realm or the Cognitive realm, so this answer was unexpected. One magic system that I believe does touch on how time works in other Realms is Allomancy. Obviously metals like Electrum and Atium interact with time on different realms, but so does Gold and Malatium. The passages we've seen with allomancers burning gold have been very interesting. I've started seeing interesting patterns between these scenes with some characters in Stormlight. Read the below Miles quote: Now compare that to the below Shallan and Kaladin passages: In the first two you can notice a distinct similarity in the prose and syntax used in both quotes. There is a kind of "self labeling" going on between both people, but one is burning gold and the other isnt. I think that this is because the fundamentals of gold may function based on the fundamentals that the above WoB hints at, time interacting with investiture, and that this is why we see Kaladin, an invested being, having his Cognitive filter possibly being distorted by investiture. Gold also definitely seems to work this way. My theoy is that the Connections that are snapped into one's Spiritual aspect allow for a kind of meshing, caused by the extra investiture, between one's Spiritual aspect, Cogntive aspect, and how the two are affected by this dilation from the investiture. End This is super heavy crackpot, and not very edited as this WoB was posted just ealier today, but I think it Connects some of my ideas on how the Cosmere works. Let me know what holes you guy see in it and what your opinions are!
  12. Are Godmetal powers chosen (or influenced) by the Vessel or is it something else? E.g. Could Ati/Ruin have chosen for Atium to do something other than show glimpses of the future? Could Leras/Preservation have chosen for Lerasium to have different properties? What about new Shards that invest? Are they able to influence how their Godmetal acts?
  13. So, I've seen a few ideas crop up involving how certain Allomantic, Feruchemical and Twinborn power mixes basically mimic comic superheroes. So here is a thread for them! The ones I've seen: @Steeldancer I believe you were the one who realized that a combination of Feruchemical steel and Feruchemical brass basically allows someone to be the Flash. To this I'll add Allomantic pewter, and note that the lower speed limit would make this closer to Quicksilver. Someone - if you see this let me know, and I'll tag you - suggested that a blind Tin savant would be Daredevil. @King Cole Suggested that a Lurcher would basically be Spider-Man. My thoughts: Feruchemical zinc to mimic the reflexes? Pewter medallion for the strength? My offering is an Allomantic pewter and Feruchemical steel twinborn with a steel medallion, because that would be the original Superman. And on a totally random note, am I the only one who wants to see Alex Power read SA and do Windrunner stuff as a result? Because his power set should let him do that!
  14. Specifically, since they're so similar could they be used by each others magical systems without using magical hacks?
  15. Decided to get my first fandom tattoo (all of my other previous ink has been related to my family and family history). Went for allomantic brass because I am very similar in temperment to Breeze (and also Sebarial, but that's a tattoo for down the road, maybe). I went for the Era 1 version of the symbol, since 1: That is when Breeze lived and 2: I miss the dot in the Era 2 version. Seriously, how come Brass is the only metal to lose the dot? So unfair.
  16. Just a fun question: Which would be more helpful for avoiding danger: A-tin or A-electrum?
  17. Can allomancers (Iron and steel mistings or mistborn) push or pull on a shardblade or shardplate?
  18. Q1) When you burn a Lerasium + Metal Alloy it creates a misting. Why not just purify the bead to pure Lerasium and make a full Mistborn? Q2) Does the size of the Lerasium bead denote how strong they will be e.g. 5g Bead creates a Mistborn and 10g Bead creates a Mistborn twice as powerful? Q3) If you are a misting and burn a Lerasium + Metal Alloy do you gain a second power or can you not burn the metal? If anyone has any answers or theories or even just wild speculation it would be much appreciated, this has been bugging me for a while.
  19. I admit that I have yet to read the Era 2 books or the short stories, so perhaps this is revealed in one of those books. Still, worth asking if it hasn't. I've done quite a bit of browsing over on the Coppermind wiki, about the magic systems of Scadrial. I don't mind spoilers, since they only make me want to experience the source material firsthand, so I pumped myself up for reading Era 2 by reading about Allomancy and Feruchemy. Compounding was right up my alley, as someone who likes to figure out how things would mix. After a while, a thought occurred to me. What would happen if an Allomancer burned a charged Hemalurgic spike? Would it Compound, like Feruchemy? Would the Hemalurgic charge simply disappear? Would the Allomancer gain the Hemalurgic power permanently, as if... for lack of a better word, spot welding the Spiritual DNA of the Allomancer? Or would it be something else entirely.
  20. Hi guys. I have some really deep mistborn questions and im sure you guys do to si i decided to make a dep mistborn Q&A thread. Feel free to ask questions and answer questions but please only deep good quality questions. Thanks
  21. Hi, I was just wondering how the power of Fullborns would scale with regards to Heralds. In particular, how would Kelsier or Spook (who are similarly powerful) match up against a Herald? Assume that both Fullborns have access to all 16 Metals (in unlimited quantities), but no God Metals, and that Herald has access to unlimited Stormlight and is one with offensive capabilities. Furthermore, how would The Lord Ruler have matched up against a Herald? All 10 Heralds? Thanks
  22. Mod Note: Split off at Oversleep's request from this thread. Recent discussion inspired me to make a thread about Inquisitor builds. So, what do we know about spikes of Inquisitors? Keep in mind we're talking about Final Empire Era Inquisitors, not rampaging Ruin Inquisitors. They are said to be stronger in Allomantic steel and Allomantic iron than regular Allomancers. I assume they have at least two spikes for each. They do not really need spikes for Allomantic gold and they are said to usually have between 9 and 11 spikes. Assuming they are Allomancers to begin with (and no reason to turn non-Allomancer into Inquisitor): Feruchemical gold (not all of them had that due to trouble with finding Feruchemists) Allomantic: pewter tin double bronze double steel double iron atium (not all of them had that though) That's 9 spikes (one power the Allomancer was born with). We have still two spikes to spare (if we're doing the upper limit of 11 spikes and assume they have Feruchemical gold and Allomantic atium). What else? The Inquisitor Kelsier fought had access to emotional Allomancy.
  23. Does burned aluminum work in a flash, burning out itself superfast? That's the assumption I have been working with so far and I'm not sure it's right. We know it destroys other metals and duraluminum does burn out with other metals, so WRONG! Duraluminum does not burn out with other metals!: There's this WoB but it's paraphrased: Is it mentioned in the books?
  24. Hey, I don't know if this has already been asked, I tries searchimg for this but came up with nothing, so I'll just ask it. Near the end of WoA, when Sazed fights Marsh, Marsh pushes the pouch containing Sazed's metalminds into his stomach, thus giving him the opportunity to use them. How was Marsh able push the metalminds? I thought you can't push an invested metal, and those rings obviously were...
  25. Hi All! I'm new to the forum, but a long time Brandon Sanderson fan. I love the Mistborn trilogy, and thought it would be fun to create a Lego Ideas project based on it! For those that don't know, Lego Ideas is a platform where users can submit their creations, and if they get enough supporters it could become a real Lego set! Check out the details and such on the official site. https://ideas.lego.com/projects/f33f22fb-ca30-43b5-a46a-6f17bede06ed
