  1. I made a theme song for the Kholin family: Kholin Alight! Shattered Plains Here it is: https://soundcloud.com/ostrichofevil/kholin-alight This is the main theme. It is not done! I eventually will write themes for Dalinar (maybe with some Kaladin), Adolin, Renarin, and Jasnah (maybe with some Shallan). EDIT - This project is now called Shattered Plains
  2. I have been wondering if a requirement to resurrect a Shardblade if you are not its original bonded knight would be having the matching Shardplate. If the plate has part of the spiritweb of the spren that created the blade, then someone possessing a matched set and living by the right ideals may be able to bootstrap a bond with the dead spren in order to revive it. Which makes me wonder if the style of Adolin's plate matches that of his blade.
  3. What would the hair of a baby born of Adolin and Shallan look like. Would it be black speckled with blonde AND red, or would the red overpower the blonde or vice-versa (As a redhead I think the red would beat our the blonde of course). We haven't seen a description of a mixed Alethi having two alternate hair colors but it really seems that hair breeds true. Would they have 50% red hair then like 45% black and 5% blonde? Also Feather if you're reading this just replace Adolin with Renarin at will.
  4. Ok, in the thread Predictions for Stones Unhallowed I realized that maxal and I, with our theories and ramblings that contained the scenarios for weddings and Adolin's or Kaladin's future children, kind of strayed off the topic So as not to cluster that thread further and let it focus on what can happen in Stones Unhallowed (and not much later or even in the back five), I decided to create this thread - it's a place designed to post ideas and ramblings related to distant future (and the next generation of Kholins and their friends ). I feel obliged to warn you that quite propably some of said ramblings are long and rather useless (but hilarious - always funny to write and often also funny to read). Even the craziest idea can go here, it's healthy to share such things (even if sometimes only because laughing is healthy ). And if someone is ambitious - even some fan-fiction concerning future (I do like to read such things even if I don't feel that my english is good enough to write them myself). Under spoiler tags I'll put the things that I or maxal wrote in the forementioned thread. It goes with a pattern - what's in a quote is maxal's, the rest is mine. If someone else joined in this ramblings I'll mention who said it. Generally it's the story/ramblings of how maxal and I see the future for Adolin&Shallan and Kaladin(&Tarah) and their kids The ramblings on Kaladin and Tarah Ramblings on weddings and future in general So that's about it when it comes to our ramblings... There is also maxal's The Fashion at the Weddings, which I'll repost as well. I'll just remind again that the text about wedding and clothes is maxal's, I only wrote my comment at the bottom and that's the only thing I can claim. And that is all about it until now. Every theory and every amount of ramblings is welcome (following the course of thinking above or completely different).
  5. So I found this interesting gem: Note that this is before Szeth has either met Nin or picked up Nightblood. So a)from Adolin's perspective, Szeth is Commanding objects. b)It sounds awfully like Breath - in particular could command inanimate objects, and we all know how careful Brandon is with his wording. (Or at least, how careful we THINK he is. *ahem* Gibletish ) However a)It could have just been the wind, and generally Adolin freaking out about the Assassin in White. b ) Szeth wouldn't have had time to give a verbal command, even if he could use Stormlight to power and Awakening. c) It seems a bit much to me that on top of Vasher and Nightblood, Brandon would then cross over an entire magic system from Nalthis - especially since we're not supposed to need to have read any particular Cosmere book to understand the others. IF however, Szeth can Awaken, the only way I think he could learn it is from Vasher. 99% chance he's not a worldhopper, since we KNOW he's from Shinovar, plus it would make flashbacks very messy. I'm not sure I can see Vasher teaching him anyway, unless he learned Awakening in his past, before or in his early days of being Truthless. Which is doubtful because flashbacks. So I open the question to the rest of you theorisers and obssessors. What doth 17th Shard think?

    Adolin

This is my first attempt at drawing Adolin Kholin. I am working on a new version of him, which looks way better, but I am still proud of this one.

© Adolin Kholin is property of Brandon Sanderson (character creator) but this drawing is my own.

  7. This is a piece I commissioned from my younger sister- I needed some wall art for the new apartment and I convinced my wife that it would be a great idea. My sister and I are both diehard Sanderfans, so it seemed perfect. I asked for "something from the Stormlight Archive" and the attached painting is what she sent back. Can't wait to get it on my wall! The glyph is a stylized version of the Kholin family glyph and the mark on the shardblade is my sister's signature. I would have attached the .png but it was slightly too large... so .jpg it is.
  8. Hopefully you read the title. Anyways this is more of a statement than a theory. At the end of WoR, Adolin stabs Sadeas (quite gruesomely) with a knife. And with this WoB we know that Hemalurgy can be used to steal Shardblades. Link It might happen that someone will try to assassinate Adolin and when they try they will be disarmed and have to use Adolin’s knife against him. I’m not saying that the knife has to be a Hemalurgic spike but it would be cool if it was. Thoughts/ideas?
  9. Okay, this will be a bare-bones theory. I've only read WoK twice and WoR once, I don't have either book with me, and I'm at work. Oh, and I'm also not crazy-genius-into-this like you all are (compliment!). I did a quick search but didn't see this covered. So feel free to flesh out or dismiss. I theorize that Adolin will be Dalinar's squire for several reasons: 1. I can't stomach him being a Radiant at this point. There are already too many Kholin Radiants. I also think that his story arc needs him to deal with suddenly NOT being the best, most powerful, and most desireable for the first time in his life, and it needs to deal with that fully. 2. He may have already used Stormlight. In the duel, he admits that taking on two Shardbearers is possible but difficult, and yet he ALMOST defeats four on his own before he starts losing and Renarin and Kaladin jump in. 3. If anyone were a squire to Dalinar, it would be Adolin. I think it would flow nicely from their relationship in WoK as Adolin learns to understand and respect Dalinar's views more and begins to see the strength his father has. 4. The only REAL evidence: he doesn't feel the Thrill when fighting Eshonai. The lack of the Thrill was a big part of Dalinar's arc in WoK, and I don't think it's just happenstance that Sanderson specifically mentions Adolin not feeling the Thrill. Being a squire to Dalinar would explain it. So yeah, thoughts?

i kinda of wish i could shove all these pics 2gether cause they are pretty small... w/e heres adolin
  11. Lots of predictions about these two on other threads covering all aspects of their individual and joint lives. I’ll just add a few ideas to the general discussion: Adolin Will Not Become a KR In WoR, Sadeas observes how much Adolin has grown to be like Dalinar in his younger days (unfortunately for Sadeas). I think this foreshadows how Adolin will at some point become the leader of the Alethi army, the new Blackthorn, and the Kholin Highprince. Being a KR is superfluous to these roles. If something happens to Elhokar and his son, then Adolin in the future may even become the Alethi King. Friction Between Adolin and Shallan As mentioned in Part 1 of this series of posts (about Kaladin), I believe Kaladin will be blamed for Sadeas’ murder. Reasons: (1) People will assume that someone connected with Dalinar did the deed; (2) everyone knows that Kaladin passionately hates Sadeas; (3) Kaladin is Dalinar’s Captain of the Guard; (4) Kaladin disappears the day after the murder; (5) Kaladin is known for using his side knife on an opponent’s eye (not just Helaran, but he also threatened Jakhamav during the duel the same way); (6) for reasons expressed in Part 1, Amaram will point people in Kaladin’s direction, and (7) people will assume that if Adolin wanted to kill Sadeas, he would have confronted Sadeas openly rather than murder him secretly. Adolin at first will not confess his crime, but I do think he will confide in Shallan. She will be appalled – not because he murdered Sadeas (glass houses and all that) – but because he is willing to let Kaladin take the rap. Until Adolin makes his public confession, there will be serious difficulties between the two. Plus, absence makes the heart grow fonder. Kaladin will rise in her estimation simply because he is not there. Adolin will suffer from the comparison with a phantom. (I know many on this Forum think Shallan will discover that Kaladin killed Helaran, damaging her relationship with him. Kaladin may tell her himself. But that may not happen in this book, and by the time it does, Shallan may be over her grief.) At some point in the book, Adolin and Shallan will work things out. In saying this, I’m not suggesting one way or the other who will ultimately “get the girl” in this plot. I just think there will be friction between Adolin and Shallan for a time. Shallan Will Become Dalinar’s “Right Hand Person” I think she already is. But because she is further along in her development as a KR than anyone we’ve seen so far other than Jasnah (with whom Dalinar has compared her), and because she is a scholar who will have closely read Words of Radiance, among other things, Dalinar will come to depend on her greatly. (She is, after all, his future daughter-in-law – at least in his mind.) It will also be interesting to see how her relationship with Sebarial and Palona will develop. Everyone will physically be much closer to one another in Urithiru, and we all suspect that these two are much more than they seem. I can see them growing into a Godparents role for Shallan (not in the Francis Ford Coppola sense…well, maybe.) Shallan Will Accept Her Role with the Ghostbloods Shallan’s need to discover the truth about her family will lead her to join the Ghostbloods. She will want assurances, as Mraize seemed to provide at the end of WoR, that her activities for the Ghostbloods will not run counter to her duties as a KR and her help in the defense of humankind. She will also want assurances that the Ghostbloods will not hurt anyone else she loves or cares for. While Mraize views her as his replacement soulcaster, Shallan will do much more than that. It will be easy within the relatively small confines of Urithiru to discover all sorts of secrets from Urithiru’s archives and its current occupants. I suspect that at some point Sebarial and/or Palona will discover her activities. I’m curious what their advice will be then. And Shallan will learn how to soulcast...
  12. I recently finished some character designs just in time for Words of Radiance. I posted them to the gallery and would really love to hear some feedback from you guys. Here is a link to my Behance portfolio for higher res images: https://www.behance.net/gallery/WoK-Character-Concepts/15065047
  13. Just a little bookmark I made for reading WoK and WoR. There are a few inaccuracies, but it does the job and is kind of cute

  14. This is more for a meta-narrative question than a strictly literal one; obviously the narrative itself offers a reason for Dalinar not to go meet Eshonai (security, et. all). However, this seems like a peculiar excuse. Dalinar goes out on the the plateaus without much concern in every other situation; now, those situations do involve having an army with him, but it's not like you can hide an army on the Plains; there's no cover for anything. The situation seems rather contrived. Dalinar has to communicate using a spanreed, so it's not strictly Dalinar's words or Eshonai's words that are being interrupted; it's just Dalinar never meets Eshonai. Eshonai also implies that she's met Dalinar before (though this might have been a reference to the feast, and it's also implied Eshonai might have been part of the first contact group). It's worth noting that only Adolin (of the main protagonists) meets Eshonai during the final battle of WoR, as well (in particular Dalinar does not see her). So, from a meta-narrative perspective, what could be being hidden by Dalinar not meeting with Eshonai? Of course, he dueled her during TWoK and didn't recognize anything special (though he was pretty dazed at the time). One possibility is that it's not Dalinar, but Kaladin that's being 'hidden' (Kaladin explicitly stays behind to protect Dalinar). I'm not sure how valid this is, because it seems like Kaladin could have been left behind even if Dalinar went onto the plateaus (covered by Skar or Moash and team). Shen/Rlain is part of Adolin's bodyguard team (specifically noted) but it's unclear that that has any bearing here. I'm not completely convinced that there is something hidden here, but when I read the scene it felt very peculiar; re-reading it still seems contrived why Dalinar can't go meet with Eshonai. Something related to his gift/curse from the Nightwatcher? It seems quite possible that Dalinar visited the Nightwatcher shortly after first contact with the Parshendi, as he has an interesting hesitation when he talks to Kaladin about why he wasn't around for the Roshone affair:
  15. Spoilered for length. TL;DR version is that Dalinars biases are causing him to interpret the visions incorrectly, and this is making Bad Things happen. Also Alodin killing Sadeas was a really good idea, And Kaladins Wangst could have been avoided if he had gone in a slightly different direction. Here is an excerpt...
  16. Not that this is anything for sure, but I found it very interesting that Part Three -- the part with the epigraphs from in-world Words of Radiance -- had chapter titles that didn't exactly refer to the epigraphs, but rather to the actions within each chapter ... but there was one exception that jumped out at me right away. Chapter 50 is called "Uncut Gems" -- which is a bit odd. It's a direct reference to the epigraph as well as a minor action in the chapter (Sadeas shows off a few uncut emeralds on his clothing). The epigraph associated with this chapter describes the Willshapers, an Order of the Knights Radiant, as an "uncut gem" among the Radiants. I just find it a bit interesting that this Adolin-focused chapter, which does a lot to set up / bookend what's arguably Adolin's most important act in the book (you know, that bit at the end with Sadeas), has such a strong through-line with the epigraph, title, etc. In addition, the Willshapers are described with these words: "erratic," "capricious," "frustrating," "unreliable," and the phrase "general love of adventure, novelty, or oddity." Adolin does resemble an uncut gem to me at this point ... he hasn't fully come into his own yet. Though I'm not certain this would've described Adolin before the release of Words of Radiance, his actions during the book kind of lead me to think that if he does find a place as a Radiant, perhaps it will be as a Willshaper. Considering Adolin's dating habits (erratic, at best), his love of adventure (dueling, etc.), the way he's fascinated by Shallan (an absolute oddity) ... I'm inclined to think that as he stands right now, he pretty well fits the category. It's certainly possible that this is an example of someone reading JUST A BIT TOO MUCH into the book, but hey, it's a theory, right?
  17. Hey guys I haven't seen (yet) a discussion about the words of radiance relationships so I will start one here, I am just wondering as to how the relationships between the major characters will turn out, since Adolin our lonely bachelor had just been engaged to our charming sharp witted Shallan, through Jasnah. I am wondering how it will turn out, will Brandon Sanderson try to make a love triangle between Adolin, Shallan, and Kaladin. Since from my readings of WOK seem to indicate that Kaladin's mother had quite the sharp tongue, so maybe Shallan might attract the eyes of Kaladin. IDK so i hope everyone can help enlighten me with their thoughts Thanks!!
  18. Hello all. Long time stalker, new poster. I was listening to the beginning of chapter 14, the second time through, and a theory formed. Knowing what shardblades are, this scene seemed to be rich with foreshadowing. Adolin may be bonding with, and eventually reawaken, the dead spren that is his shardblade. The scene is of Adolin kneeling, with his summoned weapon, before his first duel to win shards. He shares a quiet moment with his "spren" and confides in it. He seems to honor and respect his blade. He knows a Radiant once held it, understands it once had a name. He doesn't know it's a spren, but still seems to have a bond with his weapon. He just doesn't know his bond may be reciprocal. Adolin confides in his shard. He personifies it and imparts an identity to it. Adolin could have been pouring life into his blade for years, growing the Nahel Bond with this spren trapped in it's tortured state of unending non-sentient pain. Maybe one day, very soon.... BOOM! Adolin has powers. Just a thought that I wanted to share. Thanks.
  19. So here is why i think this. -he kill Sadeas (i agree with action) but now i can see him not sleeping in night feling bad when someone mention him and so on.... -he is not becoming radiant becouse he kiled Sadeas (all family are radiant now even a bridge boy and renarin) and before u say it blackthorn kiled to unite kindom kaladin to protect his frends and shallan to protect herself and her brothers its not the same as Sadeas -he will maybe get honor blade but that is power without limit he maybe go kiling around more Sadeas at later books and syl sed they need dangerous lvl of stormling so who know what will that do to him we all know and love zeth -and meybe Shallan new position above him and maybe kaladin in picture with Shallan teaching her to fight with stormlight adolin jealous etc. what do u think?
  20. So this might be a silly question but whatever happened to danlan she was still officially courting Adolin by the end of wok but up and disappeared in wor....?
  21. ***Book 3 spoilers!*** (After Kaladin has said the 4th oath) Kaladin: hey Adolin, check out the new feature in my shardplate... Syl, activate the Butt Flap™ Adolin: why are you showing me this...? Kaladin: no reason... Shallan: *snickers* Adolin: you!!!!!
  22. Okay I've stared this thread to see what people think of the character developments so far by the end of Wor. So Kaladin wow I'll admit I was a little frustrated by him in parts but looking back in wor his journey was a necessary one. He had a alot of pent up frustration and unresolved issues eating away at him by the end of wok and I think we can safely say that he really needed to figure out and grasp his role and place in the grand scheme of things that's not to say he's done growing as a person not by a long shot but he's getting there. I think we can safely say that his going home in the next book will be an intriguing development especially when it comes to the place and people of his childhood and seeing there reactions especially that of his parents who I'm guessing probably think he's dead. Now for Shallan gotta say wasn't to rapped up in her character in wok but boy did wor bring out the inner deemed child lol. She went from meek to evil genius and that tongue and sparky humorous later on was just awesome. The flash backs where a little predictable but I got the feeling they where less about explaining her character and more about setting up and laying a foundation for future events dun dun duhhhhhhh. By the end of the book she was definitely more capable as a person however I got the feeling that she was still uncertain about who she was but I get the feeling that that well be worked out in the next instalment soon enough. Adolin hmmmmm wasn't to thrilled with his development I thought was a decent enough character in the last book if a little closeminded. I noticed that with the duels and increasing danger and ever increasing odds that his chapter has turned into a real adrenalin junky the arena and his decision to continue in the four on one bout demonstraighted this. I thought his questioning his place in his relationship with Shallan just before he went postal on Sadias was a little showing and worrying but I guess we will just have to wait and watch to see how he deals with his actions. Okay so Im curious as to your opinions of there developments so far and how you think it may impact there relationships in the future.... Thoughs??????
  23. I finally decided to make an account after reading this site for a few months and being thoroughly impressed by the intelligence and politeness on these forums. Here are three questions I asked Brandon today in Seattle as he signed my books (I am shocked he didn't RAFO me): Question 1: Shardblades vs Hoed (Major WoR + Elantris Spoilers): Question 2: Function of the Skybreakers (Minor WoR Spoiler): Question 3: Adolin and the Knights Radiant (Major WoR Spoiler): My thoughts and Interpretations (Major WoR Spoiler): Thanks for Reading! Jerich P.S. It was nice to meet several of the 17th Sharders like Trickonometry and a charming Superfan who gave me her name which I promptly forgot... I will add it here if she posts to this thread:))
  24. Does anyone else find it a bit odd that nobody seems to have noticed just how incredibly well Kaladin fought in the duel ? He's in an arena with 4 opposing shard bearers and all he has is a normal spear. He also takes a flying leap, smashing into the back-plate of a set of shard plate with just his legs and cracks the plate. The impact is huge and he breaks his legs which may or may not be obvious, but he heals them with storm light and gets up and continues to fight. He then performs the known but fabled "kiss of death" in catching a shard blade between his hands to stop it. The audience must surely be absolutely amazed by this, light and dark eyes regardless. That he is immediately arrested afterwards for his faux-pas about Amaram may be a temporary hiatus, but storms, that fight should have generated a huge story about Kaladin and his feats. Surely people noticed how he jumped and cracked shard plate, I bet nothing like that has ever been seen before, and yet he comes out of it uninjured (after healing that people don't know about). How is this not news of the utmost interest ? It just strikes me that it gets passed over too easily. But I liked the scene itself and absolutely loved Adolin's last trick of locking himself around Jakamav, brilliant improvisation.
  25. I think the duel excerpt shows us Adolin's evolution and challenge. It is theorized that a form of the Thrill is of Odium. I imagine the fight for Adolin's soul going on in the duel. He is being tempted by Odium's influence, but is starting to see another way. In tWoK Dalinar moves from feeling an unholy Thrill to fighting while regretting the necessity. Is Adolin going through the same evolution? Dalinar at the Tower: Adolin in the duel: What do people think? Is Adolin's behavior in the duel influenced by Odium? Is he being tempted? Is the sudden fading of the Thrill due to another, more Honorable influence? What does he mean when he says that "he'd never before felt like this"?
