Perses, with senses bursting through the roof, easily ducked under the rain of bullets. As the crowd rushed to the exit, Perses casually approached the nearest enemy. Good. Feed the chaos. The man shot, as well as a few others in the room. This time, Perses burned steel, and pushed. The bullets ricocheted, with some of the bullets colliding with enemy combatants. “Coinshot! Drop your metal!” Quickly, the enemies dropped anything metal on them. None of them carried much, and what they had on them was easy to remove. Clearly, they had come prepared. Hi all, to reflect both the new era and also the updated character sheet that we have started using we've decided to start a new thread. If you need to reference characters from past eras please view the old thread. We will be asking everyone to resubmit characters from previous eras in the new format for consistency and to hopefully get the best use out of it. Steps to create a character Decide what kind of character you want to play. Starting with the base concept, what was it that made you want to create this character? Was it to make a swashbuckling Radiant? A Nobleman thief? A Selish socialite? Try to keep the concept to a few brief, evocative words. Think about your characters merits and flaws, some of these will be obvious from your core concept but others you may need to think about and workshop. Try to answer the following questions: Where is your character from? What happened to them so far? Do they have family/friends? What motivates them, which subjects catch their attention? While not mandatory we would suggest discussing your character concept in the Character Discussion thread. Especially for new players but even for veterans this can help get other people's input and make sure that characters will fit in with the setting and that the community is involved and invested with new characters. We have a lot of great writers who can help flesh a character out, provide suggestions of where they might fit or even just become excited to interact with them. Fill out a character sheet. You can find an empty template below. Please post the character sheet in this thread for one of our mods to look it over (our currently active mods are @AonEne and @Koloss17) so that they can approve it. You may receive some feedback from a mod in the discussion thread, please try to reply in that thread and only repost here when a mod is able to agree the character is suitable. This is to try to keep this thread clear for the mods so that we can find where exactly sheets were submitted more easily and speed up approval. Your character got approved? Great! You are ready to start! If you're not sure where to post yet you can ask in the Chat Thread from others, or you could try one of our short form channels in our Discord server to get used to a character before beginning to work on longer form RP. Character template The astute among you have noticed that merits and flaws have replaced any investiture, equipment, and skills that your character may have. This is deliberate. We've done away with points, and are instead moving toward a more organic system where you get a certain number of merits and flaws. Merits are anything that might help your character (such as abilities, items, skills, or a position), flaws are anything that might hinder them. Here is the breakdown for what might constitute a major minor and normal strength. Minor: Some trivial assistance / time saving measure (Eg. pull a memory from a coppermind rather than grab a book). This should be something that more or less any character could be capable of, your character just has an easier time of it. Normal: Bread and butter usefulness. Abilities that get you through your day to day (Eg. An experienced scholar or a practiced swordsman). Major: Exceptional ability, something that stands out from the crowd (Eg. A world-famous swordsman, an elite assassin, a Knight Radiant) In terms of how many of each boon each character gets, as of right we are allowing characters 3 minor merits, 2 normal merits and 1 major merit. This currently up for debate however and as with all of this we want feedback. Flaws should ideally play off of other sections in your character sheet. All characters must have at least one flaw, but we generally look for characters to have two or more. The best flaws will give something for your character to overcome and allow them to grow. They may also explain why a character has not achieved their motivations yet, which creates a handy character arc for you to RP (Eg. Kaladin has a goal to help those stuck in the same situation as him, but his social status prevents him from being able to meaningfully influence the orders that are killing his people. Additionally his bouts of depression tempt him to give this goal up entirely unless he can somehow overcome it). We hope to help turn the RP into something a little more than just zany antics by encouraging our RPers to help each other out and develop their writing skills further in the coming eras. Hey Guys, as we go into the next Era, we wanted to get a handle on which guilds were active and around, and provide a consolidated place to submit approval for guilds. While in the past anyone could start a guild just by posting a thread and saying they were, we found that that {a} didn't produce too many long lived guilds and {b} didn't result in active guilds that were really a part of the world. Thats why we've decided to say that in order to create a guild you need to fill out a small application and gather some members before you are official. Here is the application Guild or Organization Name: Members (3 minimum): Purpose/Mission Statement: Description: How to contact: What do you plan to do: The organization name is obvious I hope, if you have an acronym, please give the expanded form as well. For members, because we are aiming to make this collaborative, you need to apply with at least two other people on board (to be clear, that means the applicant and two other people, 3 people minimum). Please try to make sure that all of you are willing and ready to participate in the guild and RP. We don't want a situation where people join guilds to get the membership up, and then never do anything in it. Purpose/Mission statement: This is a place for you to outline what your guild is and what it does. Description: Describe your guild here, everything from vibe and aesthetic to what they are. For example, while the DA's mission statement is to do science and baking, its description would be blood cult crossed with a business. How to contact is to give players the chance to have their characters reach out and join. The final section (what you plan to do) is more for your sake then ours, we want to make sure you dont get all hyped up about a really cool idea and then create it and not have anything to do. To that end, please make sure you have at least a couple things that your characters and guild want to do in the world. To encourage people to hop in guilds, we will be allowing people to gain a normal or major boon that relates to their character arc at the end of the era if they participate actively in the guild throughout the era. Finally, if you would like to advertise your guild in the thread below, feel free! Don't be offended if no one signs up though, just take it as a sign that it wasn't meant to be. Even if its a really cool concept, other folks are often busy and don't have the time to make and write a new character to be in a new guild. For submissions, we ask that people @ a member of the mod team to ensure that your post gets seen, any approved guilds will be added to a list in the OP along with their application. Well, as the era is progressing, I thought it would be smart to make a post summarizing the huge number of pages of RP. This will cover the nitty gritty, the simplified plot thus far, and what a denizen of the Alleyverse would likely know. This post will be updated as the plot continues. What someone that has just entered the Alleyverse would know: What someone who has been in the Alleyverse for a while would know: A meta cheat sheet summary of the current plot: A nitty gritty summary of each of the events in chronological order: There are of course side plots, and things slowly unfurling, but that is all you need to know to get started! Of course, you can choose to completely ignore the current going-ons of Alleycity in pursuit of something completely different for your character. So long as you get at least one person to roleplay with, you are good to go!

Hey @TheFrugalWizard: what is your character doing right now?Me and Sonyr are currently at the Dancing with Death Diner in the Corridor, and are bickering about Sonyr’s secret library in the Mistwarrens that was burned a couple of days ago by Corbeau, but where the fire was pinned on Perses. For context, I recommend you read my plot summary, as well as take a gander at the post formatting in the Alleyverse guide, as there’s a few formatting errors in your post. If you really want to get into the weeds of the library burning, it can be found starting on page 4 of Era 7 episode 2. There’s also a brief description of the secret library under specific locations in the guide.

Hey folks! I’m thinking of making a new Episode in Era 7. This will not have any sort of time skip (unless you want to), and is purely just going to be a new thread to RP in. The reason for this is threefold: 1) The arcs of episode 2 are pretty much done, and so everyone is kind of in between interactions at the moment. A new thread could invite people to coordinate and start up that interaction 2) it provides a golden opportunity for newcomers to join in if they have been eying the Alleyverse! 3) The current thread has gotten quite long, and if someone wants to go back and read what happened, it would be nice to know that more will not be added on to that thread while they are reading it. Again, this will not force any sort of time skip, though you are more than welcome to do a time skip of a few days or so. The only thing that this will entail is starting up a new thread. Will that work with you folks? I’m specifically talking to @TheRavenHasLanded, @Scars of Hathsin, @RoyalBeeMage, @Lunamor, and @Stormlightsong, as they seem to be the currently active folks.

Hello and welcome to the Alleyverse! This is an extensive guide to the Alleyverse RP, and is mostly a collaboration from me and AonEne, with stuff being taken from other older threads. With the RP being active again and there being a lot of people newer to the written FFRP (freeform roleplay) scene, we're putting out this thread on rules and guidelines for roleplaying. We've taken and updated some content from previous guide threads, in particular this one - many thanks to the mods and members who have written or contributed to these over the years! Over the Eras of the RP, the format and rules of the Alleyverse have often changed - for example, if you read old guide threads, the duel format has been removed and character creation has been revamped several times. This should be the most up-to-date source of guidelines and worldbuilding and older ones may include outdated information (as may the Alleyverse Wiki on Fandom). This thread is meant to be fairly extensive, and hopefully of use to those currently RPing or those interested in RPing. If you have any questions, suggestions on what to add, or rules and guidelines that you are unsure or confused about, please let us know! The most active Alleymods are @Koloss17 and @AonEne, but questions can also be addressed to @Voidus and @ZincAboutIt, or to the Alleyverse community server on Discord. The Alleyverse Recent History There's actually a pinned thread about this, which I recommend checking out! It'll be constantly updated as the plot progresses. Character Creation Roleplaying- The Format Other Rules All normal rules for the 17th Shard apply; for an extensive list please see the general Code of Conduct. The Alleyverse also adheres to the 17th Shard's RPG rating. If you're ever unsure if something is appropriate or allowed, just ask! We're always happy to address any questions or concerns. If you notice something that may be a breach of the site rules please use the report option on the post so that someone in the staff can look into it. The primary goal of this and any other RP is the enjoyment of the players. Don't be afraid to speak up if another player's actions are stopping you from enjoying the game, but keep in mind that the other players need to enjoy the game as well. Try not to railroad the entire story and make yourself the only hero or derail the story threads of other players. Communication is key here, make sure you talk to people if you're not sure about a major decision! No Godmodding Be Patient Canon Compliance Guilds Further Worldbuilding These are the present-day city districts and some of the locations that have been established in Alleycity. Many other locations have existed or still exist but are not listed here. City Districts Keep in mind that these district descriptions have been pasted over from a much older thread, so the descriptions of the areas aren't necessarily accurate. For the time being, I will allow some alterations to the districts, and I will update them when larger events occur within them. Specific Locations Here I am going to include some of the newer locations to mark a newer era. Something to keep in mind is that you can almost always set up a new building, as things can change drastically era to era. In fact, worldbuilding is greatly encouraged! Interacting With Others Now, all of this formatting and such is nice, but it really doesn't mean anything unless you have someone to roleplay with. The Chat Thread, Collaboration Thread, or any of the guild threads are great places to talk about and set up roleplaying opportunities. When you've gotten in touch with someone, communicate closely with them, as you don't want to write up something that would be difficult for the person you are roleplaying with to add on to, or put in information that the other person (or people) would disapprove of. This is especially important for making major plot developments such as starting up a fight or moving locations. Now that you know the gist, get out there and make a character! Find a person or group to roleplay with! Discover the wacky world of the Alleyverse! And again, feel free to ask questions! I sincerely hope that you come to love the Allyverse and its world just as much as we do.

The Forgery was the overarching plot of Era 5 the era directly before this one. Broad strokes the Stranger forged the entire planet effectively creating an alternate timeline where no knew of the DA's existence, erasing their overt involvement in previous eras and made it so Voidus was just a simple professor with no knowledge of the demigod he once was. Era 5 ended with Voidus regaining his memories and ripping apart the Forgery. Leaving almost the entire population of the planet grapple with what was essentially a near year long A-gold burn.

I’d go ahead and stick it in the Era 6 Characters Thread, unless you’d want to craft your character specifically to a plot (which can be done, but is more a preference thing). Might be good to find some of the older Era 6 plans - none of them got off the ground so much, but they should give a sense of what ideas were around, and how Era 5 ended. (The Alleyverse is… weird, to put it mildly.) Otherwise, the main thing needed is people and characters. A plan would be helpful, too, but since when has anything here gone to plan?

Historically, in the Alleyverse, guilds were very important. We’re not really doing anything with them for era seven, especially since many of us are newer members. In Corbeau’s search for Perses, though (and his longer-term quest to become mayor) he will likely want to meet with the guild leaders to get their support. Any idea of how I should do that?

Yes!! The “lore” of the Alleyverse is that there are some sort of gateways (it’s intentionally quite vague) that appear all throughout space and time in all of the Brando Sando worlds that lead to the Alleyverse. So Era 1 Mistborn characters can very much interact with Era 2 Mistborn characters, for example.

@Ookla the Prehistoric and @Ookla the Believer, a quick note: we often try to discourage such a brief message in era threads, as it leads to an oversaturation of posts. I completely understand the need for a conversation to be held between characters, but it is often useful to add more than just a single line of dialogue to your post. Give some inner monologue of your character, or what they see as they interact with this character. Additionally, unlike regular conversation, you can easily ask multiple questions or lines of dialogue before the other person responds. An excellent example is me and Ookla of Whimsy’s conversation, where we tackled a lot in a single exchange. I dove into my character’s current mood, a bit of characterization, a hint of their madness, and how they interact with the world, on top of their initial thoughts on Asylum. @Ookla of whimsy, on the other hand, dove heavily into their character’s backstory, along with giving a taste of what their character is like, so that the rest of us know what to expect when interacting with them. Keep in mind: as @Ookla the Glossy said, this is much more like collaborative fan fiction than a standard TTRPG. Though a simple back and forth conversation would be quite normal in a game like Dungeons & Dragons, or even the Mistborn RPG, things are different here. There is not dungeon master to give a taste for the scenery or ambiance; that’s our collective mission. We form the story together, without a clear leader. That’s the core of what makes the Alleyverse so cool. It’s a challenge for sure, but I think it is a fun one. You two haven’t done anything per se, it’s just not the norm for this type of Roleplay. If you want more than just me and Ookla of Whimsy’s conversation, go check out the Era 6 threads. There are absolutely shining examples there, made by so many Sharders. best of luck, and most importantly, have fun!

Hmmmmm. I would say that it’s realistic that there would be some sort of organization of Radiant Orders in the Sphere, but I don’t know if they would have constructed a gigantic tower. However, I frankly don’t see why not! My main thought is that since the city is so prone to change, anything is possible, but the likelihood of a large tower lasting long is low. Though in the end, the world is your oyster. It’s presumably been about a year since something truly chaotic happened, and our Era is unlikely to morph things much.

Well, feel free to either submit a character draft to the Era 7 thread, or send a draft to my DMs. That way I’ll be able to get better advice.

So the biggest thing to consider when building a character is how powerful they are. Right now, we have -a person with a Smedry talent -a Cytonic with only the ability to teleport and cause illusions -an iron misting -an obligator with no powers other than being smart and charismatic -a chromium compounder with the downside of being allergic to chromium -A forger -A bronze compounder -A midnight essence spore-eater with a dead shardblade, with heavy trauma and in an abusive relationship -The main villain of the era, who is an A-bronze F-Tin Twinborn, who is completely blind. He has recently acquired fifth heightening and A-steel and A-iron spikes. He is also slightly insane. Generally speaking, make a character with the base power level without any significant flaws be around the strength of a mid-tier Twinborn. You can definitely have a full Mistborn, but the more powerful the character is, the bigger the flaws should be. Additionally, the more you develop the character, making them more interesting and 3-dimensional, the more you can get away with having a stronger character. Since this is a storytelling RP over a gameplay RP, the more interesting and well developed your character is, the happier everyone will be. As you can see from our current roster, the strongest character is a pseudo inquisitor who is still getting a hang of their powers. However, they are also the main villain, which means that people will naturally gang up on them. The whole idea of power level in this case is to make it so that you find that sweet spot between fun to RP and not encroaching on other people’s ability to be useful in the plot. Besides powers, what do you have in mind personality-wise?

There are two character threads, one for asking for advice and discussion based on your character, and one for submitting characters to be approved by the moderators (and @Ookla the Windwhisperer, with their temporary power). It is advised but not mandatory to post on the former of the threads (I, along with several other newer members did not and still got approved). After that, I suggest reading through our current era seven thread to see what’s been happening, and then you can start RPing based on that.

Okay so basically, it’s a universe, ruled by an all-powerful entity named voidus, which has various rifts torn throughout the multiverse. These rifts can be in any place or time in any of Brandon Sanderson’s worlds. Characters come from anywhere, and they interact. Alleycity is the main hub of this world, with many different areas and guilds. The two main ones are the DA (The Dark Alleys) and TUBA (The Underground Bakers Association). The more ominous sounding one is the bad one, and the friendlier sounding one is the one that was set up to stop the bad one (and promote peace in general). A whole lot of history happened, and right now we are in Era 7, which is meant to be a soft reset, so folks don’t have to keep track of all that much. Heck, you don’t even need to care about the current guilds! Our current plot is based around the going ons of my character, Perses, and his rise to power in the city. Actually, I’m thinking od starting up a new episode, as our first scene is pretty much wrapped up. I’ll inquire with others, but now is a pretty solid time to join, if you’re interested. At its heart, this is a collaborative storytelling forum roleplay. There’s no DM, and you are encouraged do let out your inner writer. It’s a lot of fun, and if you like either roleplay or writing, I strongly recommend trying it out! I’m the main”moderator” at the moment (I don’t actually have moderator privileges, I was just approved by other mods to kinda run things for the time being), and if you have any questions, please feel free to ask em! There’s a lot of info across many threads, and so if you need something, you can totally ask here, and I’ll try to give you the knowledge you seek.

Seems fair to me! I’ll begin a brewing. First though, the Era 7 thread shall be formed. for those with interest in investigating Perses’ ahem…incidents, I’d say it’s safe to say that the most recent event was not his first hit.

Okay, so do I put my character in the era 6 character thread?

Well, characters have not yet been approved, but if we assume that a good portion of them will be okayed, how do we want to do this? @Stormlightsong has a spy that wishes to be redeemed for his dishonorable past You have a nerdy forger, who doesn’t seem to have much in the way of current direction I have a power hungry semi inquisitor that has *trauma* and anger issues @Ravenclawjedi42 has a character which it think might get knocked down for having a character related to a book that has not yet breached quarantine aaand then no one else has submitted a character to the era 6 character thread. So once more people have characters, and everyone that has a character has a good idea of what is keeping their character going in the Alleyverse and why they haven’t just left, then we can bring formulating plot. I apologize if I sound harsh. That’s not really my intention. Just…if we want to revive the Alleyverse RP, we need solid 3 dimensional characters that have a reason to be here and some sort of goal or mission that we can play off of. How about this? Once we have 5 characters that are at least submitted to the board that each have their own interests, motives, and goals in Alleycity, we can start discussing how they will be overlapping to create a plot.

The era 6 character thread should be used for any character submissions, that thread also includes the character sheet template for people to fill in and some guidance for creation.
