  1. It seems like Hoid treats magic systems like they are Pokemon, so it would greatly surprise me if he didn't try taking the Honorblade. I'm not even sure if he has an endgame for all that or if he's just a hoarder. Like maybe Hoid sees a magic system and he's like "Oh boy, that's neat. I'm taking this baby home!"
  2. The thing I'm most afraid yet secretly hoping it happens is Kaladin falling in love with Shallan's darkeyed alterego one night. Like he's going "I'd never fall for a lighteyes, and I would never make a move on a friend's girlfriend. I have honour and--WHY HELLO THERE MYSTERIOUS BEAUTIFUL PERSON." Then a sitcom would ensure. I have no idea if the result would end up being funny or tragic, but I'd laugh either way.
  3. I learned that if those interludes are leading up to the next batch of characters in the second half of the story, I'll love it just as much as I'm loving the current cast. Rysn was really fun to read, she was the perfect balance of "What in the world was that" and "I'm rolling with it. Axies just sort of chilling there was hilarious too. As far as world building goes, my one hope is that those turtles end up fighting a giant monster at one point. I don't care how, I don't care why. It's just that the mental image would make me smile like a little kid. But on a more serious note, I'm interested to know what kind of spren Axies was studying.
  4. While that makes Kaladin's actions justifiable, on an emotional level, I doubt Shallan(or anyone in her position, really) would be able to just ignore that. Like I don't think she would swear revenge on him or anything, because it's hard to blame him for it. But I don't think she's just going to go "Oh, whatever, not your fault, accidents happen" and start making out with him anyway. It's probably the kind of thing that's hard to shake off your head.
  5. I don't think Kaladin's slight obsession with protection will be a problem. He sworn an oath to protect those who cannot protect themselves. Shallan...really, really doesn't have much trouble protecting herself, which is why they worked as a team in the chasms. The whole "murdered her brother" thing is a bit more of an issue.
  6. I know that there is a lot of plot stuff to discuss, mysteries to unravel and things to theorize on--but can I just take a minute to say how fun the Kaladin and Adolin bromance was to read? I just loved how it was basically the perfect 80s movie. First they hated each other, then they both slowly came to respect each other. It's especially nice because for all their achievements, both had no real close friends up until they met each other. Adolin has that moment when he realizes his one supposed friend wasn't as close as he thought, and Jakamav ends up betraying him pretty badly. Then Kaladin makes a point that the Bridge Four crew idolizes him more than treats him as a friend, aside from Moash. Then Moash betrayed him too. For all the pretty words from the people surrounding the two, the only ones that they could trust were, ironically, the guy who they kept fighting with. I know, I know, they'll likely end up fighting and having a fallout due to either Adolin's Punisher tendencies or Shallan--but until then, let's appreciate the bromance. By the end of the book, I could almost hear the Top Gun theme playing in my head. And then my playlist just happened to coincide with "Highway to the danger zone" when Kaladin had his final duel with Szeth, but that's beside the point! Point is, it was great to see it, and damnation, Kaladin needed a friend.
  7. I don't think they convinced themselves that he was cheating, but I do agree with the topic having probably died down by that time. That, and Kaladin is kind of a jerk sometimes, so I think even the people impressed with him(save Bridge Four and Adolin) wouldn't be too keen to talk about his insane "literally kicked open a shardplate" deal. I do think it was odd we never got to see Shallan's reaction to that though. She seems like the type who would be like "Excuse me, guys, but are we just going to ignore that?"
  8. Thank you, I think I completely missed that! Must have been one of the parts I read at 5 in the morning haha.
  9. I think that Adolin and Shallan make for a much more mature, healthy relationship between two people who clearly get along with each other and like each other's company without the need to yell at each other. Adolin can learn much from Shallan's intelligence and bravery, just as she can learn much about his honor, optimism and another kind of bravery. Together, they can grow as human beings. However Kaladin and Shallan are much funnier to read about, so I'm sticking with that one. Speaking of which, are there any times that Shallan thinks about Kaladin in a positive light? I remember Kaladin thinking a lot about her, but not so much the other way around. In all honesty though, I hope there isn't a love triangle because Kaladin is pretty much Adolin's first friend since he realizes halfway through the book that he doesn't have any real friends outside of people that sort of know him. That, and Kaladin is much on the same boat as far as friends go. His most trusted friend sort of tried to kill the king. And him. And he mentions how his bridge four friends sort of worship him instead of being friends with him, save for Rock. Would suck if they lost their "best friend by default" because of this. I mean it would be realistic and I'm not implying it would be bad writing, just...I hope it doesn't happen.
  10. Hello! I'm a huge Sanderson fan, and now that I just finished Words of Radiance and successfully destroyed my sleep schedule, I feel like I have to discuss the series with someone. I'm a big murder mystery fan(like the golden age classics, John Dickson Carr, Agatha Christie and co) and used to not like fantasy all that much until I read Mistborn. The book was just so damnation fun I had to read everything I could by the author, and now I'm a huge fantasy geek too. My favorite book is probably...hm, going to go with Words of Radiance. It might be the post-marathon talking, but I really had a lot of fun with the book. After that, it would probably be Way of Kings.
