  1. I totally think you have a valid point in feeling this way about Jasnah surviving; however, I think Jasnah surviving was so unexpected that it was a nice twist upon a twist (if that makes sense) that she survived. Her death seemed so final that I was completely shocked to find out that she was alive. I think that a main character dying has become a common cliche now used by authors that what really matters is the circumstances surrounding the characters death or survival. Since Jasnah survived, I hope that her survival is driven by a deeper plot/story development to justify it and not just to bring back a favorite character. However, Sanderson has a way of making all of his plot twists matter, so I have faith.
  2. I just finished reading Warbreaker, and I am really glad that I decided to read it, or more that it was written. I have been taking my break between jobs to read Sanderson's novels and they are amazing! While I loved Warbreaker, I could not help but feel that the ending was so abrupt and that more can be done with this world Has anyone heard any more about a sequel being written? Here are some of my thoughts on the book and its characters: Favorite Character: Vivienna. I think this may not be a personal favorite for most, but I loved Vivienna. I think it is partially because I can relate to her since I am the oldest daughter. I really felt that what may be seen as strengths or positive traits in her, such as always being in control and being important, are tragic because these are things that have been forced on her. I cheered when she finally accepted her Awakener self and wore pants. I also liked her final decision to go with Vasher and discover who she really is, rather returning to being a Princess. Favorite Couple: Susebron and Siri. This has to be my favorite romantic couple in the Sanderson's stories that I have read so far (WoK, WoR, Elantris, and Mistborn series). Seb's and Siri's romance just felt so natural and like they were best friends. I think a lot of this came from the fact that Seb's was so innocent that he fell in love with Siri outside of any semblance of lust (or at least that is how I read it.) Magic System: I thought Awakening and Biochromatic Aura as a magic system overall was very unique, and I love uniqueness. I think it fits well into the Cosmere overall. However, Stormlight (etc.) is still my favorite Sanderson magic system. So there are my most prevalent thoughts after reading Warbreaker. I really hope there is a sequel. Sanderson sets us up for one so nicely.
  3. Just Finished WoR...Mind is blown!

  5. Okay. So I just blasted through the last 50% of the book this morning and I take it all back. I love everybody in this book. Even the Lord Ruler! How could I be so blind. It wasn't me. It was the Ruin, he manipulated me into disliking Vin and Elend.
  6. I totally respect your opinion. Thanks for posting. I like seeing how other people perceive/feel about the characters. It gives more dept to the book. I was uber excited about Zane at first, but was put-off by the way his story ended. However, I do like how the voice in his head is tying into Ruin in book 3. Its a nice touch.
  7. Hello! Love the intro b/c I can totally relate. Welcome, I must warn you. Posting can become addictive. Good thing its not bad for you like drugs.
  8. Ok, I am about to post what is likely going to be a very unpopular view, but here goes. I am 50% through book 3 of the Mistborn trilogy and I do not particularly like Vin as a character. (insert: "Are you crazy?!") I started out liking her in book 1, was completely annoyed by her in book 2 and my feelings haven't changed in book 3 so far. I feel almost exactly the same with Elend, except he is growing on me big time in book 2. I have this sinking feeling that Vin is a lost cause for me. I want to like her, but her insecurities about being good enough for Elend even after being the best Mistborn ever just rubs me wrong. So does her love of balls and fluffy dresses. I mean, I get it. It makes her more complicated, but maybe I would like her more if she just owned up to her badThis post has been reported for attempting to skirt the rulesedness and felt that she totally deserved Elend. Doesn't anybody else feel the same or have I just committed a cardinal sin.
  9. I have to admit, the Sadeas POV would be awesome just so I can read the shock. Multiple POV for this one scene would be awesome though.
  10. I just completed re-reading WoK (my first re-read of any book and it was still amazing!). I am starting to read Sanderson's other novels. I just finished Mistborn (amazing) and am on book 2 of the series. I finished that book in four days. I am hoping that I will slow down reading so that I don't run out of books to read before WoR comes out.
  11. I really love this image of Kel. It makes a good reference for when I'm reading.
  12. Thanks for the advice! I am definitely trying to catch any Mistborn spoilers. I highlighted in my Kindle Kel's interaction with Hoid. I remember reading in one of the forums that he was important in the Cosmere universe and loved him in the Way of Kings.
  13. I read for ten hours straight yesterday in order to conclude Mistborn: The Final Empire and let me tell you I was hooked. In the very beginning, I was a bit confused. Now that I finished the book, I can't remember why I was confused, but suffice it to say that I was. Then about page 50 the book took off and I really got into it. Anywho, I have to get it out of my head and onto paper as to why I thought this book was AMAZING. The following is a list of highlights from the book that I noted: **may contain spoilers** Inquisitors: The second man was tall with a strong build. As he turned, Kelsier was able to see that a thick metal spike has been pounded tip-first through each eye socket, the nail-like spikes were long enough that their sharp points jutted out about an inch from the back of the man's clean-shaven skull. The flat spike ends shone like two silvery disks, sticking out of the sockets in the front, where the eyes should have been. These guys are absolutely terrifying! I literally cringed when reading their description and anytime they came into play. I'm curious to learn (if ever) how exactly the Inquisitors are made. Creepy. The Lord Ruler: The lesser of two evils? I really loved the originality behind the The Ruler vs. Hero that played out through the diary excerpts. I was completely stunned when I learned that The Lord Ruler was Rashek (the ultimate Terrisman hater) and had killed the hero (did we even have a name for him?) Man, evil wins sometimes and then the world is plunged into centuries of tyrannical rule (sort of like American Slavery *burn*). What I also found intriguing about the Lord Ruler is that Sanderson hints at him being the lesser of two evils throughout the book. I mean, the guy obviously did some good, he defeated the deepness. Or more likely was keeping it in check. And I quote "You don't know what I do for mankind. I was your god, even if you couldn't see it. By killing me, you have doomed yourselves." Something huge is coming for this world in the following books I am sure. However, I must note that as a skaa if I had to keep living under the Lord Ruler in skaa-like conditions, I think I might rather have the world destroyed. Kelsier: A Self-Made God Another twist in the plot that completely duped me. I was sure that Kelsier was going to turn out to be an egotistical maniac like the Lord Ruler that justified future unjust sadistic behavior. I mean that stunt he pulled pitting the soldiers against one another in the cave hide-out and his self-involved, self-important attitude. His spreading of god-like mythos about himself and visiting the skaa like Jesus Christesque fashion! I was sure we had another tyrant on our hands that knew what was best for the people. Man was I wrong! I loved Kelsier throughout the book. A man that can smile through so much hardship and kick butt. *Swoon*. Hence, my heart broke when he made the ultimate sacrifice. All of his actions made sense. He didn't want to be a god, but he knew that is exactly what the skaa needed to rebel and I loved him for it. Sazed: Refreshing take on Religion A too common theme in books in general is the corruption/evil of religion. I liked how Sanderson presented the good that religion can do through Sazed. Sazed states that he believes in all of the religions that he has collected. When Vin points out that they contradict each other, he replies "Oh, often and frequently they do. But, I respect the truths behind them all--and I believe in the each one to be remembered." We can also see this belief in the importance in the truth behind each religion played out in Kelsier's ultimate plan/sacrifice. I loved Vin and her relationship with Elend, but I feel that neither she or this relationship was fleshed out enough for it to be a highlight of the book. I'm hoping it will be in the following novels.
  14. So it's pretty lucky you signed onto a board with people who probably know the book inside and out, huh? If you get confused, I'd suggest just reading on,mor posting a topic to ask to get things clarified. That's pretty much what I was going to do while trying to avoid spoilers.
