  1. That sounds exactly like exponential decay to me. The charge would drop very quickly at first, but then lose charge less and less with time. Stormlight seems to work similarly- Kal can hold in a small amount for a very long time, but larger amounts dissipate quickly.
  2. I'd rather that the color dictated the physical properties of the Imprinted objects, rather than what kinds of Imprinting can be done with it (green ink with the physical properties of wood, blue brittle like ice, etc). Of course, that is awfully close to luxin.
  3. It probably would take considerably more of his stored health than a normal bullet wound, however. If you managed to pull this off several times, he might not have enough to heal with, and you'll be in possession of several free spikes.
  4. Judging by Lightsong, I'd say yes.
  5. There are diminishing returns, however: the more you tap at once, the more of that energy is actually lost. Eventually, I imagine, there could be a point where you plateau, with very minimal gains in expressed charge no matter how much you tap. Still, you could circumvent that by compounding in conjunction with Duralumin or a Nicroburst to use it all at once without the threat of diminishing returns. As to the OP's main question, I have no idea. Good question for Brandon.
  6. [lifts up floorboard] I give this theory a 10/10. No, that has nothing to do with the fact I helped develop it. Nope. I'm not convinced the Old Magic is actually a magic system at all. All we've heard about it has been related to Nightwatcher's curses/boons (enlighten me if I'm way off base, my memory is very fuzzy here), and nothing about it actually being practiced by humans or any other physical being. So I don't think the Nightwatcher should be a concern for the theory. Still, that leaves us no closer to the actual third magic. Fabrials, because they seem like a HCO system and we've seen a ton of them? Old style fabrials (or their creation)? Horneater lagers? Magic fish? I agree that it's hard to predict systems with this theory except in the most clear-cut of cases. In general, all intent-based speculation tends to be very subject to interpretation. To me, it seems very natural for Cultivation to meld with both, and for Honor to be opposed with Odium. But I could also see Honor being compatible with Odium as a sort of "Hate those who are dishonourable/evildoers". What we've seen so far of the KR's general mentality doesn't really back that up, but just using the theory of Intent-Meshing alone could very easily go either way. Porridge out. Back to lurking. [/drops floorboard]
  7. Just don't feed any to your livestock/pets, or they might acquire dangerous tastes...
  8. I like this quite a lot. Don't have much to say about it yet, however, so I'll just be a jerk and correct spelling. It's Feruchemy, Hemalurgy, and AonDor, not Ferrochemmy, Hemelurgy, and Anon Dor.
  9. I was thinking more the... Westerosi style of Wedding. With cake. Lots of cake. And tropical fruits. Shoot, he's on to me! What are you talking about? The cake's right here.
  10. Hmm. So the Young Horse has won some battles. Perhaps you would like to come to a Wedding? There will be cake.Mwahaha, my schemes are finally coming together. They shall never suspect this trap!
  11. I imagine artists and musicians would benefit heavily from perfect pitch/color sight. So many artists will have a good amount of breaths, since those without can't really compete.
  12. Crimson Campaign is great. Better than the first, IMO. And wait, Tower Lord is out? What use is having a list of book release dates if you never remember to check them. Gah. Just tore through Skin Game in about two hours. NEED. NEXT. DRESDEN. BOOK.
  13. I don't think he means that at all. If Life Sense is one of the primary ways AOs sense everything (which is very likely IMO) then that's the exact opposite of "mundane human senses". I really like this idea. With all the talk about Spiritwebs, Spiritual connections (which are as varied as that of gravity and that of friendship), as well as Investiture rhythms/wavelengths, I've started to picture the Spiritual Realm as one giant spiderweb. You have all the essential Forms floating around in space, connected by strings all vibrating at their own frequencies. As connections change, the strings detach and reattach, constantly changing the web.
  14. Queen Elsa Steelheart, Featherblades, ladies and gentlemen of the Newcago Court: I adress you all on the gravest of matters. War. The Knave dares to command even the neutral party of the Observer's Guild. He thought we were weak: he was wrong. Let it not be said that the Observers shirked their duty in battle. We stand 10,000 strong, legions of pandas armed to the teeth and hungry for fle- FRESH fruit. We would stand beside you, as you fight to free your lands. Will you stand beside us?
  15. It seems the vote is for war. With three in favor, and one against (or not, hard to tell), it is time to march for battle. We march to slay our equestrian enemies! We march for justice! We march to slay the foul, traitorous Knave! We march for our own amusement! We march for waffles! We march for assorted tropical fruits (Please? I'd really like some)! We march, FOR FAME AND GLORY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UNLEASH THE PANDA ARMY!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. It's not a self Command, just a natural consequence of Returning.Self Commands are weird. There's no color drain, nor Breath use. It seems to be for free, with no consequences. Makes some sense though, if you subscribe to the idea that reactants are consumed in order to move Investiture. Since you're not moving the Breath into anything, there's no color drain.
  17. I imagine proprioception would help with improving hand-eye coordination (or just coordination in general, really). That's not something to sniff at. Balance would be useful too, and storing pain while leaving touch intact is pretty badchull.
  18. At the moment, the vote ratio is 2:1 for war. (Geoffray and I for, TSS against (?)). Fellow Observers, I would ask that ye offer your opinions by tonight, or forever hold your peace. The Feathered Ones, the Laughing Fool, and the vassals of the Ice Queen have joined forces: they will not wait long for us to join them. The time for watching and waiting is past: the ponies would make servants and slaves of us all. Do not trust the Knave's words: he has been proven twice a liar, and we shall not be made fools of thrice.
  19. I invoke Rule 2 of the Observer's Guild handbook. I now hereby call a vote of the Observer's Guild, to expell the invading equine horde. All in favor say Ay. All against say Neigh, and be forever known as turncloaks.
  20. Except that, to almost all readers, it actually wasn't that clear. We only know it because we're so obsessive. Having him come back again would be totally out of the blue for most people. I'd love seeing him interfere in small ways, like Harmony does, but anything more shouldn't happen.
  21. I'm pretty sure the humans on the Tranquelline Halls were made/ruled over by H&C. After all, doesn't Kal get called Son of Honor or something along those lines? My order would be more like this. 1. Adonalsium makes Roshar, the Parshendi, all the rest of Roshar's wildlife, and then sends enormous death-dealing hypercanes of mass destruction to sweep periodically over the continent. Adonalsium is a jerk. 2. Adonalsium waltzes over to Yolen, makes humans, and gets himself Shattered. Adonalsium is also not very smart. 3. H&C go on their honeymoon together on Braize, creating humans, and bunnies, and flowers, and rainbows. *cue idyllic forest music* 4. Odium crashes the party. *cue slaughtering and bloodshed* 5. The newcomers steal the Parshendi's best lands in Shinovar. Then they steal their spren, too. Parshendi collectively decide to go all Darth Vader. *cue more bloodshed* 6. 4500 years before present, Heralds win Desolation. Nothing bad happened on Roshar ever again. Absolutely nothing.
  22. Splinters are of multiple realms, and spren are splinters. Spren are of multiple realms.I can't quite find the quote for spren having Investiture, but I'm pretty positive they do. After all, Shardblades are spren in physical form, and Shardblades are very heavily Invested objects. Besides, isn't the definition of a Splinter Investiture that has gained sentience?
  23. Why not both? Spren are both Spiritual and Cognitive: they've got their mind, their essential concept in the Cognitive Realm, and they've got the Investiture (and probably other stuff– do they have Spiritwebs?) in the Spiritual. Humans are of all three realms: their Spiritwebs, their minds in the Cognitive, their bodies in the Physical. And so AOs (Awakened Objects) are mainly of two, just like spren: in the Cognitive, they have the Command, and in the Spiritual they have the Investiture animating them, the Breath. Re: Vivenna not concentrating too hard: That's not an example of Cognitivity being bad. Remember, in WoR Jasnah describes the Cognitive Realm as the realm of inspiration, the realm of deeper thoughts, the subconscious. So Vivenna, by letting her instincts do the work, is actually opening herself up to the Cognitive more.
  24. Here's a quote dump I made about this earlier. All I meant there is that Awakened objects, Seons/Skaze, and Spren, which were termed by the Ars Arcanum as "Transformative Cognitive Entities" iirc, share lots of attributes. They can bond with humans, resulting in benefits to both. They can take the forms of Shardblades. They all have some strong Cognitive aspect behind them– the Fire in firespren, the Destroy Evil in Nightblood, the Aon in Seons. They can exhibit sentience. They can be bound to objects (fabrials, the object that you Awaken, idk about Seons). And yes, I'm aware that the quotes are talking specifically about Nightblood-class Awakened things, but I think that Type IIIs and spren are still pretty analogous. After all, the spren have the same divisions: you've got the intelligent nahel spren, and the less invested, non-sentient spren that simply swim through the currents. With Awakening, you've got the low-Investiture, low-sentience Type III's, and the uber-Invested Nightblood-class Type IV's. And about Type III intelligence- isn't there something in the annotations about how Vasher thanks his creations because he wonders how aware they really are? Anyways, back on topic. I think Nightblood is using some of his mind reading (Cognitive?) senses there. When Vasher sees the sunset, his mind contains thoughts, concepts like "red", "beautiful", etc. Nightblood senses all those thoughts, and pieces together the images from that, so that he feels the sunset indirectly from Vasher's perception of it. What's interesting is that that confirms that Nightblood actually lacks Physical senses entirely, and just uses the magic, Cognitive/Spiritual senses to perceive the world. It also probably disconfirms the "Awakened Objects can only have the senses you can visualize" hypothesis. I really hope Type III's see the world this way too, since it's a pretty cool way to perceive things.
  25. I think an important question here is how do spren see. We know already that there's lots of parallels between Awakened objects and other Transformative Cognitive Entities, so it's quite possible that how they see the world is shared too. While they often take forms that have no sensory organs (like Syl as falling leaves), they are quite capable of sensing the world without them. These senses seem to be like ours: Pattern's eavesdropping relies on proximity, and seems pretty sound based. But they still have some other Spiritual/Cognitive sense(s), since Syl can tell when a certain hateful being is coming without any Physical cues. My bet is on Cognitive, since Transformative Cognitive Entities, are, well, Cognitive. Also, does anyone remember how Nightblood perceived things? That's probably very important here.
