  1. Elendian sounds the best in my opinion. Don't have to use the whole word, and sometimes nations even have a different name completely. New Zealanders (from New Zealand) are also Kiwis. Elendian rolls nicer to me than Elendelian Plus, it's closer to Elend <3
  2. lol. That's cool that we figure it's damnation. But why, as heralds of the almighty, would they be sent to some crap hole instead of somewhere sweet?
  3. Awesome WeiryWriter, that's exactly the kind of answer I was after! Thank you Practical purpose...movie...hmm. It would be so hard to pull off. I'd love a series, you could happily make the first book into 20 episodes or so. Would be better than a 2-3 hour movie anyway. But yes the design, I can see how it's needed now, for future-proofing. Although They could just use CGI like Iron Man suit. The other point of saying that the warriors themselves add the skirts on and stuff is cool; leaves that open to interpretation as well.
  4. Hey guys, don't know if this has popped up in a thread somewhere (did a quick search under shardplate skirts), but I'm really curious about this. All the illustrations show Sharplate as having skirts attached. Why would they need a skirt? Generally, this was for protection around the groin area as it was impossible to fit plate right up your inner thighs and around your precious areas. Argument 1: The design is built this way to fit the same design model as current armour; "it just looks right" to the warriors of the time. OR against this Argument 2: Because of the form-fitting nature of Shardplate, all these precious areas are well protected by the Shardplate itself. Thus, having a skirt is extra encumbering. Argument 2 makes much more sense to me: Radiants of the time were far above regular individuals; I don't see them designing their gear to fit in. Standing out was no problem. Why would they need skirts then, if the armor fits their bodies so well? I get conflicted when reading which way to visualise this. I like to stick with the idea of no skirts, as it makes more sense for Shardplate design to me. Your guys thoughts? If you have any evidence from the books, that'd be awesome.
  5. Is anyone else pissed off at the end of the kip/T arc? Also, can anyone with the knowledge please explain the lore a bit more regarding Orholam, Lightbringer and Broken eye? What exactly does the eye do again, and why is the Lightbringer celebrated to return? Just finished Broken eye and lore is confusing me quite a bit. Had a break halfway through book for uni work, and haven't read the 2nd book since it came out, which is probably why
  6. Oh my storm, a family portrait would be beautiful. I would definitely print it and frame, I'm not even joking! Would break my heart but be so awesome too.
  7. Oh duuuuude that is soooo cool!!! Love the ending haha that's epic. Got a good laugh from Kal's supplies. All that Chouta ready to go! haha
  8. My guess from the prologue was that someone had to trust SH to kill him; so along the same lines you guys are saying about believing he is the hero.
  9. Cool, what's the hook thing just under the spear head? Syl? That's the style I pictured the spear too!
  10. My theory is that Laral has had Roshone's child, and will be another problem for Kal to come to grips with. Most likely Kal will spend a decent chunk of time in Hearthstone, most likely preparing them for the everstorm: protecting as is due. Part of this will end up killing Roshone at the end of a story arc, potentially with something also happening to Kals parents. With Roshone gone, Kal will have to deal with the fact that one his childhood friends (potential relationship) now has this 'spawn'. Kal will have to decide what to do. In my opinion he will intially reject the kid, hurting Laral And causing more problems. At the end I hope he would accept the kid and decide to help him/her become an honourable person. Get the feeling it will be a boy, would suit the whole Roshone 2.0 a bit more.

  12. I agree completely. When I saw this it made me think the same thing. I expect us to see someone else coming along to lead, someone we don't expect (not a Kholin). Unless Elhokar role reverses, but I doubt that happening.
  13. Apologies if a thread of similar nature has been made. What do you guys think of Gavilar having had the potential to be a Bondsmith? He already united Alethkar (partially) and was on his way to uniting them even more, and perhaps the rest of Roshar too. We know he was onto something revolving Radiants and Voidbringers, and seeing that he seemingly knew everyone (I joke, I mean he knew so many people through the factions; Mr T, Sons of Honor (Amaram), etc) he must have been involved in some pretty heavy stuff. Thoughts? Would Gavilar have been benevolent? OR would he have followed suit with Taravangian? Seemingly good if he was to become a Radiant, but of course not if he was to become a survivalist Tyrant. Life before Death, after all. If he was to become a Radiant I would have seen him uniting the world forcibly to combat the Voidbringers (which he would most likely be to blame for the return of anyway?).
  14. I'm throwing my vote in for Dustbringers for two reasons. 1) So far all the radiants have acted around their proposed Radiant traits. Kal with protecting people (both wanting to protect and also having conflict with the notion of protecting everyone (Elhokar incident). Shallan with Truth and Lies, both ways there too. Dalinar; wanting to unite but also having a conflicting past of dominance and tyranny. This relates to Adolin through the Dustbringers attributes of Brave and Obedient. Adolin for the most part was the shining example of both being Brave (fearless in arena, self-sacrifice, standing up for prostitute, fighting at end of WoK, Chasemfiend scene, etc) and Obedient (listening to Dalinar and obeying even when he doesn't agree). The conflict with these attributes comes at the end, when Adolin snaps! This conflict I theorise is necessary for all Radiants to undertake so they can better learn the lessons of being who they need to be for their respective order. I mean this to be different from the 'broken' requirement, although these both walk hand in hand. It seems to me that each radiant both represents their main ideals, but also have internal problems with them too. 2) Adolin is described as one the best duelists, and of course he wins the Arena bout (lets be honest, 1v1 or 1v2 he would have SMASHED Relis and Orange man if they teamed on him). Throughout WoK and WoR his ability is clearly defined as a badass on the field. To me he will always be one the men with the highest hit count, or the biggest (thunderclasts!). It is my opinion here that Adolin is being primed by Brandon to fit the role of kick-chull fighter, which, in my opinion, is what the Releasers will represent. Seems to me their surges (+ the prelude to WoK, reference of Dustbringers) indicate they are going to **** some baddies up! Division and Gravitation...oh boy, some fun stuff is going to come from this! Anyway, the point is Adolin is being prepped to fit snug into this role of 'amazing fighter', so when the announcement is made of Adolin becoming the first Releaser and revealing his epic fighting destruction melting super blast powers, everyone will go "Wow! he fits this so well, of course he is a Releaser, it's so natural, this makes sense! How epic!" So those are my two points He's got the mentality and he's got the physical prowess to fit right in as (I assume all the first will most likely be) the Order's respective leaders.
  15. I made a sound effect when that last line went off. Something along the lines of yelling "BOOOF!"
  16. Dalinar almost exploding into a mush of goodness. When it describes Szeth lashing Dalinar up...OH STORMS. I had a mini fit, especially since Adolin has to watch, useless, as his FATHER is cast into the sky to die... Oh man the feels. This brought me so much pain. I almost got to the point of whimpering 'Dalinar..no!' Who am I kidding I did whimper that lol
  17. Definitely agree with your view on Adolin; both growing into an amazing character but also disturbing that at the very end. I'm pooping in my shardplate over this, very concerned! Lopen regrowing his arm is just stormlight mojo, like Kal restoring his arm; not related to a certain order. UNLESS Ahesion was used (pressure, vacuum) to really PUSH the stormlight through. Venli is definitely an evil something! She may end up becoming a pivotal baddy character harnessing some odium juice. Will be exciting and terrifying to see. Dalinar tricking Amaram was both honourable and epic! Showed he had Kals back and also sassed the crap outa Amaram!
  18. Hahaha I like it! I seriously hope Kal ends up with Laral. Would be pathetically cute but never happen. Something bad will probably just happen instead. Imagine if he won Laral's affection, takes her with him to Kholinar, then she gets caught up in some hostage situation and dies! Holy Stormfather that would destroy part of my soul.
  19. Syl wasn't quite in the same state as the other spren that have been trapped. She never was trapped, rather, she was booted back to the cognitive realm (pushed more towards her natural state as we see happening over chapters when Kal starts going against his oaths). She screams because she knows she is losing her conscioussness and her connection to Kal. We can assume this could be emotional pain, not physical? Maybe both. Either way, she lost a part of herself and returned to a semi-dormant state until Kal started to believe in his oaths again. Having been such a small time period, and the fact they bonded, this most likely enabled Syl to remember everything, as proved by her coming back and their conversation after Szeth which shows she remembers everything. So, she never died, she just lost a part of herself and 'faded' until Kal believed in his oaths again. The shardblades must be spren who's oaths were broken simultaneously during the recreance. Remember somewhere we are told of an item Taravangian must hold onto or something, which holds the key to destroying the radiants if need be. This must have been the item that intitally was used at the recreance and caused all the spren to become trapped/killed.
  20. What exactly is a shardpool? And where have we seen evidence of these? They are a portal of some sort?
  21. I agree with this last statement; it seems too easy right now for the things to head the way we are thinking. Something weird is definitely going to be happening with Laral; she's either dead, she's some bat-crazy light-eyes that's done something horrible to the town, or she's the victim of filthy Roshone! With Tarah..Brandon has hidden so much, so it's going to be genuine surprise who/whatever she turns out to be. I wasn't aware of this time skip around book 5? Do we know how long this is? In the long run I see Renarin ending up with some other Truthwatcher or something along those lines; I feel Shallan is going to continue to grow in weird and wonderful ways, with her joining the ghostbloods, taking on multiple identities through her lightweaving, etc. I see a lot of emotional rust hitting the fan for Shallan, which is sad. In the long run with Kal..I reckon he'll end up with some love of epic proportions, something really cool. He may get involved with Shallan for a while, but that's not where I see him ending. All aside, Lopen is the next Alethi King. Long live The Lopen, and may all the ladies swoon over his flying and man-sticking abilities!
  22. I find myself agreeing. However, after the Adolin downfall, I definitely see him rising back up from broken man status (our seemingly pre-requisite for becoming a KR) to KR himself at the end of the book. Another path is him joining another faction, although I see this as less likely. Either way, I hope he wins Shallan back.
  23. I understand and agree, although I really thought Shallan and Renarin would be the couple! If we do get the love triangle, it's going to be frustratingly predictable. I really hope we get surprised with someone else. Along these lines, what of Laral?
  24. Was anyone else surprised when Jasnah announced Shallan's causal to Adolin? I yelled! I thought "grrr sneaky Brandon, you're winding everyone up, making a love triangle between Renarin, Adolin and Shallan!". Did anyone else think this was following the lines of Navani's relationship with Gavilar (the older brother, as Adolin) and Dalinar (the younger, as Renarin)? It made too much of a coincidence to me. I had it planned out in my head. Adolin would see Shallan as a sexy foreigner, they would get semi close, but Shallan's real interest would be in nerdy and deep Renarin, who aligned so much better with Shallan (which of course drastically changes, hence why this would never work). Navani would eventually tell Shallan to follow her heart and not make the same mistake she did (although in hindsight, that would mean she wouldn't have her children..hmm lol). After the whole book, Shallan would finally choose Renarin and wahoo! happily ever after. This being said, I LOVED Shallan and Adolin together, and I definitely changed my views on both of these characters, including Renarin, who I initially had high hopes for, then he went and had an emo streak instead (understandably, given his order; he now sees the ugly future?) Anyway; for all those Pre-WoR Shallan/Renarin shippers, what do you think?? Do you like Adolin/Shallan together now? Were you as initially shocked as I was at the causal for Adolin and Shallan? Did you feel betrayed? I did!
  25. I drowned in WoR and I loved it.
