  1. I'm unsure how I feel about this one. I think mainly because it felt more YA exalted by Sanderson than Steelheart did which was more Sanderson compacted down into YA. That said I'm glad he's trying new things. Especially Scifi. Overall it mainly just leaves me excited for Mistborn Era 4 more than the sequel. I'll definitely read it day of when it comes out though. And I'm really glad DE is getting followup that was such a good quick read.
  2. The series being called The Stormlight Archive suddenly makes a lot more sense after they found the library.
  3. We finally got the altar! Finished it a bit ago. Alcatraz was my second novel published under Sanderson's name after WoK so I've been anticipating this a bit more worried about how he would end it all. Getting to that last page, it was just so perfect. So very Alcatraz. And then going past the discussion guide just out of pure habit for any last tidbit from a good book and seeing the note. Two perfect endings. I'm running out of shelf space and I'm okay with that.
  4. Just to be clear that's not an exact quote as it completely recapped book two so I cut most of it out. But yes! Read it. My favorite books of his besides WoR.
  5. To quote. Brandon also wrote a lengthy, though enjoyable segment about why he has to do the recaps and the plans for the second Mistborn Trilogy in chapter 5 of book four of Alcatraz
  6. Wit's monologue at the end basically sums it up. It was spectacular. But this is Brandon Sanderson. Spectacular doesn't cut. Chapter Seven... I loved it. I hated it. But it was so completely right. Over a thousand pages into the series (Part way through Return of the King for comparison.) I was invested. I expected more than a cheap fake out at the end that I half knew from the moment it happened was coming. Yet I let myself hope against hope that it wouldn't. Why? Because this was Brandon Sanderson. He doesn't take the Shardblade, he takes the hard, stupid, awesome way instead and meets up with Lopen. And yet it had to be this way. That's how the story goes. So I go on hating it. And loving it. Because Brandon proved once again that he could make me care. In the end it could have been better. A lot was forced, too slow, too rushed. And it was still amazing because he's a freaking genius whose skill in writing is nearly a quarter as awesome as Lift's awesomeness. As long as this isn't setting up a love triangle it was a good book. And this would probably work and sound better if I didn't just stay up till five am reading it...
  7. Why don't the Parshendi just set the bridges on fire instead of going for the bridgemen??
  8. I'm looking to pick up my copy of Words of Radiance soon. Where does Brandon make the most money off the purchase?
  9. Hey all. After finishing a reread of WoK today I decided to stop my lurking and join. And as is traditional I have a question. (Plural of course, but one to start.) In the Acknowledgements of WoK Brandon Sanderson says referring to his writing group/Alpha/Beta readers. What does this mean in context with Syl's disgust for the blades?
