  1. But I don't think we have it confirmed anywhere that it's possible outside of Sazed's circumstances. I think it's possible that some (or even the majority) of Shards would be incompatible with each other. Or that, after a period of time, any Shardbearer would be too molded by its Intent to pick up another.
  2. Would this be possible? My understanding is that Sazed was only able to pick up two Shards because he picked them up at the same time. This might be me speculating wildly, but existent Shards would not be able to pick up a second Shard. We know for sure Odium hasn't, but that might be because of his Intent and not an inherent restriction.
  3. I agree with the others re: humor feeling forced, but it becomes pretty clear that Brandon is in on the joke here. Wax was a dumb, cocky kid. So fun
  4. It's so good! Wow. So good. I would like a novel's worth of young Wax plz.
  5. That sounds very likely to me. Nightwatcher just wrapped the curse and the boon all into one.
  6. That's the thing - we know from the intel she's gathering that Nazh is also on Roshar. And we know for a fact that they disagree on the topic of interference. That's why I think it's far more likely that he's referencing her and not Cultivation. Note: We have WoB that Nazh knows about as much as Hoid about the cosmere, with only "Khryss" knowing more. That's why I assume she is the same age. And good to know about the Blade. That one really tripped me up. Kept expecting Dalinar to manifest abilities, then he bonded the Stormfather at the end and I just gave up trying to figure it all out.
  7. Two things! Both spoilery. Don't know why you're here if you dont want spoilers. First thing: Dalinar has Taln's blade, yes? Is it not an Honorblade? I'm very confused about this Second thing: When Hoid makes the joke about women his age, he's almost definitely referring to Nazh or Khryss (whichever of them is female, I think Nazh), not Cultivation. We see their disagreement in several chapter headers.
  8. Aha! I figured that we'd find one or both of these people in the unpublished stuff. And I'm 200 pages into WoR now, and seeing that several of the pictures are signed by Nazh...it's super cool :3 Have we seen the name before now, though?
  9. I believe Brandon referred to Khriss as a "he" - could be wrong. Also, thank you Peter for the spelling <3. I wasn't expecting to get such juicy info. I basically chose that questions at random from my thread. I'm impressed that there was so little overlap between the Sharders.
  10. I got there late and my number was later than I expected, so sorry I didn't get around to meeting any Sharders! We got some good answers though go team! Crys (sp?) is definitely more knowledgeable than Hoid, and maybe Naz. I would assume those are characters from Dragonsteel - Chaos has read that, hasn't he? We need info o.o
  11. Very impressive! The "Is Hoid the most knowledgeable?" question was mine - the answer really caught me off guard. I guess I should've been expecting names we wouldn't recognize . Chris (Kris?) and Naz...very interesting.
  12. Oooh, I like that Hoid question. Will definitely try that one if my nerves don't get the best of me. Also the Adonalsium one, but I don't want to take too much of his time. Interesting. Not sure how Hemalurgy would apply there. But I'm behind on my theorycrafting. Not really sure what the bond is supposed to be made of in the first place. Cognitive primarily, I guess?
  13. Hey guys! I'm going to my very first book signing on Tuesday -- going to meet Brandon at Murder by the Book. I'm really excited, but I have a problem: I really don't know what to ask him. It'd be fun to ask for a Cosmere clue, but I'm drawing a blank. Any suggestions?
  14. Sell. It would break the beautiful symmetry of Allomancy. Although it would be great fun. A character (not Shai) from The Emperor's Soul will appear in the Elantris sequel, even if it's just a brief cameo.
  15. Shard of Frustration. It gives you opportunities and then sets you up to fail. Could also be called the Shard of Passive-Aggressiveness.
  16. It's a super unnatural position. First thing I noticed, and I can't get over it. For the foot to be flat on the ground while the leg is extended so far - I guess Kal has been practicing his gymnastics. The face is distracting as well. He looks like he's 40. It reminds me of a Darrell K. Sweet cover, basically, except that Whelan picked an important and visually attractive scene as opposed to something random. I know I'm being really critical, but art is important to me. Reading the story of the cover, it's clear that getting this done was a struggle for Whelan. To his credit, it's gorgeous, just with some distracting quirks.
  17. I'm somewhat confused. Natanatan is both the city and the nation, yes? And we don't know exactly where it was, unless I'm mis-remembering a fairly major plot point. NO WAIT. Urithiru. That's what I'm thinking of. Move along, nothing to see here...
  18. There aren't a ton of direct parallels as far as characters go - is Dalinar Rand, or is it Kaladin? Would Szeth be Mat, or Dalinar's son with the perfectly forgettable name -- so I'm not sure where to start. Turns out everyone from Shinovar is the direct descendant of the Knights Radiant, warriors extraordinaire, forcing them to decide as a people if they are all slaves or if perhaps fighting is not so dishonorable. (Oh, that turned out nicely.)
  19. A drab God...it's an interesting turn of phrase. Let's look at definitions here. Drab - someone who does not have their Biochromatic breath, in essence missing a piece of their soul. God - someone who is heavily invested. I'd say the God King fits this definition as well as the Returned. The only way for those terms to describe the same human is if the Divine Breath is just totally different from a regular one. There's lots of evidence pointing to that already. Becoming a drab doesn't kill you. These two kinds of Breath just work differently. So, I think I'm going to agree with the OP - the Divine Breath normally fuses with a complete soul, so that when the Divine Breath is used, the soul is released from the body. If a Lifeless were made into a Returned, the soul would returning to a body already inhabited by a piece of a soul. I assume that breath would be pushed out. And the drab God would be...um. Hmm. I'm losing track of my theory here. Claim: A drab God is a Divine Breath fused with an incomplete soul. Actually, I'm not sure why this would be any different with a lifeless. Seems like this would happen if a drab was Returned as well. Unless it's typically that person's own Breath which animates the body? I don't remember. Hmmm.
  20. I forget exactly how Shai explains Forgery, but what she's really doing is changing how the object views itself, right? Essentially changing the Physical via the Cognitive. But even if she was to convince an object that it was Invested, the power would still have to come from somewhere. Unless there were Aons involved, I don't see how that could happen.
  21. It gets very, very cheesy in the final few books. The answer is love! A big letdown for me. Don't get started if you're expecting to come away with something really rewarding and satisfying. The characters and world and magic and writing are fantastic, of course. There's just no way it could have ended well with all the diversions RJ indulged in the middle books. Also, Perrin's arc is much like Daenerys' arc in that they travel the same arc over and over. Weeeeee.
  22. I think Odium would need to attack all the aspects of a Shard in order to splinter it. I would love to speculate more, but we know so little It could be that a true, permanent Splintering requires the undermining of the Spiritual through the kind of negative feedback loop like has been mentioned, the destruction of the Cognitive through Shadesmar somehow, and the killing of the Physical through the battle of Champions or some such. Anyway, nothing we've seen a Shard doing up to now has had any long-term affect on the Shard. When Vin threw herself against Ruin, the Physical (and Cognitive? I'm not sure what all the Shardholder represents) aspect was destroyed, but the Spiritual power was completely intact. And on Sel, there were *two* shards, who would not have stood by and let the other be destroyed (well, at least Devotion wouldn't have. Not sure about the other). And I don't know where this theory is going. Clearly Odium did something we haven't seen before.
  23. I've always taken that to be Hoid referencing the origin of his name - not his own origin. Breaking the fourth wall is pretty unlikely.
