  1. Love love love Words of Radiance! I'm sad that I have to wait over two years until book 3. Oh well. At least it's not another 4 years!

  2. Re-read The Emperor's Soul. Definitely Sanderson's best work yet! I'm delighted that he won a Hugo for it :D

  3. I also love the series because it shows Brandon's versatility as an author. My favorite authors are those that can write for different ages and create beautiful stories in different genres. Yes, he mostly stays in fiction, but I love that he's starting to do more science fiction, I think it might be interesting to see if he does any regular fiction someday...
  4. I bought Steelheart on Tuesday when it came out and I expected to finish it that day or the next. But I've been drawing it out--not wanting the story to end :D

  5. Thank you so much for sharing the archive link! I invested in seasons 1-5, but I'm almost done listening to them and I've been wondering where I could hear seasons 6 and 7. Does anyone know when season 8 will appear in the archive?
  6. I thought the point of this thread was to come up with a new Talent that applies to you--not necessarily from the books...
  7. I love the look of it. It's a lot more organized. I had a hard time finding certain pages on the old site, but I haven't had any trouble with the new one
  8. About a year and a half ago, I started reading The Wheel of Time series just so that I could read more Brandon books. I got around a third of the way through The Eye of the World when life became too busy with school, work, and a bunch of junk in my life. A few months ago, I tried to pick up where I left off (shortly after everyone is separated from each other), but I just couldn't get back into it. Last night, I decided to start over again and read from the beginning. We'll see how l...

  9. I like the tab idea. It's right out there in the open.
  10. I like having a link to Brandon's Website. Might I also add that there should be a link to Writing Excuses? I'm sure there are plenty of other Brandon-related links that could be put on the 17S website, too...
  11. I was skeptical at first, but I really enjoyed them. Yes, they are Middle Grade, but I loved the quirkiness of all four. Mostly, the Alcatraz books are different because: they are full of humor, are written in first-person, and are much shorter than his epic fantasy novels. The writing is still brilliant, the characters are unique and interesting, and the story is amazing. I highly recommend reading them. They got me through these past few months when Brandon wasn't releasing anything new! EDIT: Oh, I forgot to add the ONE criticism that I heard. Some people--not me--don't like how the Alcatraz books talk about how an author writes. Brandon mentioned this in one of the Writing Excuses podcasts (season 4). For example, he talks about how some authors start books with cliff hangers, just like he starts Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians. As a writer, I think it's genius and I wonder why no one else has thought of doing that. Of course, he does it in a way that is satirical and absolutely hilarious.
  12. Both are my two favorite. I don't think I have an opinion about which to read first. I read Elantris first just because Way of Kings wasn't out yet I think someone mentioned that either are his best work, but I think now people are saying that The Emperor's Soul is his best. I guess it depends on who the reader is...
  13. I'm like you--I rarely re-read books. But in the instances that I do, I usually try to hone in on the terminology that I don't remember from the first read-through. With the epic fantasy stories, there are always soooooo many names and I can never keep track of them all. But in re-reads, I don't have to spend as much time worrying about keeping track of the plots since I already know what's going to happen. I also enjoy discovering all the foreshadowing throughout the story that I didn't think was anything special during the first read.
  14. If I read just one book at a time, I get bored very easily. Not in the sense that the story is boring, but more that I don't like to do just one thing or live in one "world" for long periods. So I have a shelf of books that I've started reading. Depending on what I feel like reading, I'll pick up a certain book. This week, I've finished Schlock volume 5, Infinity Blade: Awakening (for the second time), and Infinity Blade: Redemption. At the moment, I'm reading: -Schlock volume 6 -Elantris (for a second time) -The Princess Bride -The Maze Runner -the second Hitchhiker book -Clash of Kings (book 2 of Song of Ice and Fire) -And Then There Were None -Mr. Monster Books I want to read next: -Steelheart (can't wait for it to come out!) -Way of Kings and the rest of Brandon's works (for a second time) -Schlock volume 7-9 -the rest of the Song of Ice and Fire book -the rest of the Hitchhiker book -Glamour in Glass -I Don't Want to Kill You -The Hollow City -the Percy Jackson books -Fahrenheit 451 -and so many others!
  15. lordofsoup, it was pretty amazing--just like all other Brandon Sanderson writings. However, it has a slightly different feel to it than Awakening.
  16. Re-read Infinity Blade: Awakening yesterday to refresh my memory on the story. Hoping to finish Infinity Blade: Redemption some time today.

  17. Even though Brandon is a "fantasy" author, it was wonderful to read a sci-fi story that he'd written. I'd like to see more sci-fi in the future
  18. I've never played the games; I didn't own an i-product when the novella came out. But now I have one, so perhaps I should go purchase and play them. With that said, I didn't find it at all difficult to read the novella (Awakening). I still have plenty of questions about some off the terminology, but that's just Brandon's way of telling stories. He's good at keeping somethings mysterious while also portraying them in a way that we can mostly understand. Can't wait to read Infinity Blade: Redemption!
  19. I assumed that it'd be released as an ebook as well, but I guess it hasn't quite gotten there yet. I've spent the morning re-reading Awakening in hopes to jump into Redemption. I suppose I now have to wait a little longer Oh, wait. I just found out that it's only being released through i-tunes...
  20. Just to clarify one of my earlier posts, I wasn't trying to get people to give me rep points. I was trying to figure out what kinds of posts make rep points. I've tried to post consistently, but I guess I haven't said anything particularly interesting yet. Honestly, I get lost in some of the forums for the Cosmere novels; it's been awhile since I've read some of them. I'm working on re-reading some of his earlier novels. Maybe then I'll have something significant to add to the discussions...
  21. Oh, that's such a difficult question to answer! On my first read through, it was definitely Sarene. But I'm reading it now for the second time and I'm remembering just how amazing all the other characters are. My favorite probably still is Sarene, though.
  22. Aw, thanks so much everybody! You're too sweet
  23. If only I had enough time on my hands to post enough to get over a thousand rep points! I can't even figure out how to get more than three!
