"Nope. lets go, we can come back later."

    "Alrighty!"

As they leave the building, the lady at the desk gives Sharp'i another weird look. She moves to pick up the phone and make a call.

    . . .

The building they're looking for is located on a fairly wealthy street, lined on both sides by clean white houses all completely identical. The only thing differentiating the one in front of them is that the garden has red flowers, instead of blue.

The man looked at Sharpo’s ankle and frowned. “Of what?”

    The girl giggled.

"N-nevermined," Sharpo muttered, mind racing. "You wouldn't happen to have the keys would you? I'd like to retrieve a few of them for a study."

Plain and toasted with cream cheese because I'm secretly lame and boring.

I'm kidding. It's not a secret. But bagels make me think of breakfast, my favorite meal of the day, and now I'm craving some homemade biscuits and sausage gravy.

I agree that it is too long for what is actually happening in the story. There was a lot of potential for political intrigue around Sarene but it all felt very glossed over. I did like the beginning. Having the story immediately throw us into Raoden's transformation was an amazingly fast-paced set-up that came to a screeching halt by the rest of the story's slow pace and I'm someone who enjoys a slow burn. Just a case of where I enjoyed the premise more than I did the execution which was how I felt about Reckoners.

That's not boring, sometimes the simple option is the best one!
As for Elantris I agree that it had a more interesting premise, but I did really like how the romance played out. I think if we ever get in adaptation of this book specifically (like a movie or Tv-show) It'll be able to build on the story and refine it a little bit.

“Of course, Sir,” the man said, gesturing to the cells. “We are here to punish the children of those who rebel against us, as well as testing new treatments and other, ah…techniques on subjects we needn’t be gentle with.”

"Very good," Sharpo said, trying to sound refined. He gestured to the chain at his ankle. "And what is the meaning of this?"

  5. 18 hours ago, Edema Rue said:

One of the adults looked at him. Or rather, looked in his direction, but about a foot above his head. “Ah, the inspector,” he said. “Welcome.”

Sharpo thought for a moment. He put on an authoritative tone. "Would you remind me of our mission here?"

  6. 23 hours ago, Edema Rue said:

“You killed us,” the girl repeats, and suddenly the corridor lights up with a strange and powerful blue light, every cell easily visible…and there are more ghosts. Each cell holds between half a dozen and a dozen children…there have to be hundreds in total. In the space between them there are adults who stare at the children cruelly.

    "I didn't." He insisted.

Sharpo then turned to one of the adults. "I suppose your capitol then?"

The girl giggled, walking forward and through the bars. “You already killed us,” she says, smiling even as her eyes are blank and dead.

    "No I didn't . . . I haven't killed anyone!"

  8. Just now, Edema Rue said:

The children look at each other, then back up further…all but one of them. The same girl from before. She’s holding the end of the chain.

"Oh! Will you let me go please? If I can explore this place I might find a way to help you!"

  9. Just now, Edema Rue said:

“We are district,” the boy repeated, the others nodding emphatically.

"So you put in here because of that? That sucks." He looks around. "Do you have any idea how to get rid of this?" He points to his ankle.

  10. Just now, Edema Rue said:

The children look at each other. One of them cocks his head. “We are district,” he says, as if this explains everything.

"Are you from before the rebellion? The grown ups say that the district people had it hard in the past."

  11. 7 minutes ago, Edema Rue said:

About half a dozen children between the ages of 2 and 6 were stood there. They were all faintly transparent blue, and painfully thin. Most had a single bandage around their left arms. One of the younger ones was crying. The ones closer to the bars started to back up. “Sorry,” tiny voices echoed. “Sorry sorry sorry.”

"It's okay . . . how did you get in there?"

    Is Sharpo still chained up?

  12. 2 minutes ago, Edema Rue said:

Abruptly, the released him. “Don’t hurt us,” a tiny voice whimpered.

"Of course not." He stumbled a little, but found his footing. He studied the inside of the cell. "Who are you?"

  13. 7 minutes ago, Edema Rue said:

The ghost didn’t respond. Several more tiny hands reached through the bars, pulling at him, his clothes, everything.

  14. 2 minutes ago, TheRavenHasLanded said:

Kaza trys to settle in... and falls out. "Yeah, I appreciate it, but why are you being so nice? You should be beating me with Dad's belt with glee, not picking me up to go to lunch. Im the bastard son, why should you love me?"

"KAZA IT'S NOT YOUR MOM SHE'S GONNA EAT YOU OR SOMETHING."

Po was not panicked, instead he just seemed really, really pissed.

  15. Just now, Edema Rue said:

The woman—ghost—picks him up as if he’s a small child. “I have your lunch all ready for you, honey.” She begins to carry him away, not even looking at Sharpo.

"STOP BEING CREEPY YOUR NOT HIS MOM."

1 minute ago, Edema Rue said:

A tiny, cool hand reached from the cell and grabbed his arm.

"Hands to yourself please." He struggles against the chains trying to get free.

  16. 4 minutes ago, TheRavenHasLanded said:

He does his honest best, but he's still panicked.

3 minutes ago, Edema Rue said:

“Friend?” There’s a laugh. “Oh, my dear, you don’t have any friends! Only your mother. Come along, my sweet.” In comforting but firm arms he’s pulled backwards, away from Sharpo.

Sharpo is pulled towards the cell until he’s pressed against the bars.

"I'm really sorry for yelling and I don't usually get angry but YOU IDIOT STUPID LADY I AM HIS FRIEND BECAUSE HE SAID I MAKE HIM HAPPY DONT YOU DARE SAY OTHERWISE."

Then he hit the bars with an "oooof"

    2 minutes ago, TheRavenHasLanded said:

Kaza stops. "Im sorry, what? You, my mother? I WISH-" he feels himself losing control, but kept himself in check, barely.

"Okay maybe we should panic now," He said.
