  1. I get what you are saying. A lot of people loved OB but I wasn’t a huge fan on my first read (I’ve grown more fond of it ove4 time) I think there is quite a shift from the first two books where you have a team of likeable characters to cheer for (Bridge 4!) and no matter how uninterested you are in a chapter or two, you always have a Bridge 4 / Kaladin chapter to look forward to (or a Shallan chapter if you are a freak like me). OB is setting the stage for coming books so you go from two action packed books to a much more ponderous pace. I was curious to see how you liked the next Act as it was my least favourite but the next setting and final Act I found very satisfying. if you’re bored someday try speed-reading through the middle bits haha.
  2. My theory is that Shallan has a gemheart and Chana is living inside it at the moment. Furthermore, Radiant is Chana peeking out. This would explain Shallan’s enhanced abilities.
  3. I don’t think Kaladin will be Honor. His whole journey seems to be struggling towards a point where he can finally lay down his burdens and just live a normal life. Picking up a Shard will only Add to his burdens. I don’t think it will be Dalinar either. That’s just too obvious and BS’s writing tends more towards a surprise twist that makes sense in retrospect. I also don’t think that they need new Heralds. The only purpose of the Heralds was the Oathpact and to me the narrative seems to be moving toward unifying the populations of humans and singers, not further dividing them or re-starting the Oathpact cycle of violence. One note of interest from the above BS questions is that he states that dropped power can become Unmade. I’ve been thinking more and more that the Unmade on Roshar are splinters of Ambition.
  4. Bullets have built in gunpowder so a Spren couldn’t be a modern-type bullet They could be an old school musket ball or canon ball but that would still require loading a metal tube with gunpowder
  5. 28. Dig large pits or trenches with a shardblade on a battlefield then make them look like normal terrain. This could make thunderclasts get stuck or fall on their faces. 29. Create strobe lights to blind / disorient large numbers of opponents (Also, I think it’s rather hard to add substance to lightweaving and that it requires a ton of stormlight. I think the only reason Shallan could do it was that there was practically an unlimited amount of stormlight available to her)
  6. I’m going to try to go 3 for 3 with my predictions My other two are: Truthwatcher: Water or River Spren. Makes sense to me with Mistspren and also associating water with life. Willshaper: Anticipation Spren. Music Spren is a good choice thematically but for some reason I always picture Willshapers looking to the horizon, or a new journey, with anticipation.
  7. I picture Nightblood’s cognitive form as looking like a black Mistspren but with thousands.of different faces that continuously change corresponding to the thousands of breaths used in its creation. Or maybe BS is being cheeky and NB looks like a very insane version of Vasher.
  8. Skybreaker armor Spren confirmed as… Gravitationspren Dragonsteel Q&A
  9. Anyone who thinks “come at me trolls!” Was anything but a joke needs to take a step back and ponder that they might take themselves just a tad too seriously. Sorry if I offended anyone. I won’t be returning to these forums. I’ve tried to post theories or participate in discussions but some of the longtime users of this site are bullies and intimidating. It’s a wonder any new users stick around with all the pompous toxicity. I’ll continue loving BS’s work Without the “scholarly” community.
  10. Disagree, but I appreciate your opinion
  11. Jeez people You have one WoB saying shardblades can kill Spren followed by another saying they can’t. You have one book showing a shardblade killing a Spren then the next book stating they can’t. How much more clear does it have to be? As I’ve said, BS is a brilliant writer but not infallible. There is no way he can plan ahead for every little detail. He’s even said in WoBs that he hasn’t decided on certain topics yet. Every detail can’t be mapped out in advance. This isn’t a sin, it’s a fact of life. And I’m well aware that his writing style involves lots of “gotcha” moments where the characters’ preconceptions / viewpoints are shown to be very wrong. You are no less of a fan of BS’s writing if you recognize that RetCons happen from time to time. But a lot of you seem to treat his writing as gospel. Anyway, it’s a pointless topic as it is now canon that a shardblade can’t kill a Spren (and I’m fine with that) P.S. There’s a ton of RetCon in Shallan’s arc (come at me trolls!)
  12. That’s pretty much the definition of a RetCon
  13. I’m not sure you can make a Deadeye without a Nahel bond as they didn’t exist prior to BAM’s imprisonment with the main theory being that this altered the bonds somehow. Syl seems fairly convinced they killed that poor little Spren. BS is a genius writer but isn’t perfect…this is a RetCon
  14. Syl obviously killed that Spren in OB BS is just backpedaling / reverse engineering because they made such a big deal about making a weapon that can kill Spren in RoW that it would seem stupid if any old shardblade could do it.
  15. I think Tien is dead but that there is more to the story. The way Syl describes hearing him call out makes me think that he was a Dawnshard. I don’t remember the exact quote but it was something like a voice of tapped crystal demanding (commanding?) to be heard.
  16. I think that the reason he used several forms of Investiture but didn’t necessarily do anything with them isn’t because he was agitated but rather that he was taking inventory to make sure all of them still worked. He knew his memory had been altered and wanted to make sure none of his other abilities had been tampered with.
  17. I don’t see a similarity between what SF or the Sibling do and what we’ve seen the Unmade do. I did consider the Nightwatcher and how what they do is similar. I even thought while writing it “is the Nightwatcher an Unmade?” (Dai-gonarthis?) Because the difference I see between the Nahel bonds and Unmade spiritweb changes is that the Nahel bonds fill cracks that are already there (improving the structure or at least stabilizing it) whereas Unmade changes would require the target to give up part of themselves and then they fill that hole (in keeping with how Odium works). The SF and Sibling don’t take away from or drastically alter spiritwebs but we’ve seen Unmade do it. What the NW does though… very similar… plus they do it to people they haven’t bonded. A further thought… The one-word Unmade seem to temporarily alter the web, affecting primarily emotions. The two-word Unmade seem to physically or more substantially alter their targets. And I think BAM can alter all that as well as bonds.
  18. I would theorize that we have already seen many forms of Voidbinding through the actions of the Unmade. The Thrill altering people’s emotions/personality (or at least heightening certain aspects). Same for the Heart of the Revels. Yelig-Nar altering people. Re-Shephir creating midnight essence… do the creations have substance or are they just a manipulation of Fear given substance by those perceiving them? Sja-anat altering Spren. These are all abilities that we have never really asked “How” about and there must be one explanation that covers all of these phenomenon. So if these are all examples of Voidbinding then it would stand to reason that Voidbinding involves a temporary (potentially permanent?) manipulation of the spiritweb. This can happen to Humans, Spren, Parshendi, or anything with a spiritweb. Now I’ll take it a step further. I think that the spiritweb alterations are a corrupt version of the Parshendi connection to Roshar’s rhythms and ability to make different forms. That brings us to BAM. An Unmade who was able to give Parshendi Voidforms. How? By altering the spiritweb of Roshar itself. When BAM was captured, this somehow made the change irreversible until BAM is freed. A little off-topic I know, sorry.
  19. This is a Roshar topic referring to another book and I tagged it as per the guideline you just quoted. “If in a book specific forum or channel, you wish to refer to another series please use spoiler markup or, if appropriate, move to a full spoiler channel. A reference to what the spoiler is related to, should also be included. (eg. OB (SPOILER))” If I am reading that wrong, my apologies.
  20. So we know that prior to the shroud, Yumi was a yoki-hijo, an individual Invested by her world’s Spirits. This allowed her to attract Spirits and ask them to Change. And the result was what looks alarmingly like a conjoined fabrial. Now I know that Roshar is a different world with different rules, but the similarities to Spren being used to create conjoined fabrials is obvious. The only difference is that Yumi doesn’t have to trap them first in a gemstone. We know that Navani wants to continue creating fabrials but that The Sibling does not agree with her methods of trapping Spren. But now we can assume that Spren can be convinced to form fabrials if convinced by an Invested individual. This forms another parallel with Soulcasters who can convince objects to Change. It wouldn’t be too much of a leap now to theorize that Soulcasters can convince Spren to become conjoined fabrials or even fabrials in general. Thoughts?
  21. I was just thinking how oddly well the WoT world could be incorporated into the Cosmere. WoT world would be a 2-shard world with The Creator and The Dark One balancing each other out similar to a certain other Cosmere world. The Creator would provide Investiture in the form of Saidan and Saidar while the Dark One would provide the True Source (and corrupting Saidan). So the magic system is Cosmere-compatible too. The Dragon Reborn would function similarly to other returned Invested people and this would also apply to a lesser extent to the Heroes of the Horn. The Ogier would be World-hoppers when they use the Book of Translation. It just all fits so strangely. Adopt the WoT world into the Cosmere!
  22. But Dalinar can snap a limb or put his hand in a flame and be fine with a little Stormlight. That may be why he debated tapping out. I think his internal debate is more whether he should behave like a wrestler who Can’t heal themself would (trying deliberately to make the match fair in other words).
  23. First assuming that Chana is Shallan’s mother (wild theory number one), Shallan has a gemheart because of the unique process needed for Heralds to have children. Again this is all wild theory but I’m guessing a Herald would have to split off part of their Investiture and grow it … hence the best way would be with a chrysalis which would mean whatever pops out of it has a gemheart. As for degradation, I’d guess that their is a difference between forceable confinement and willing residency, There is also likely a big difference between a living gemheart and any other vessel (come to think of it, this may be the answer / twist to the GBs trying to move things from planet to planet).
  24. Theory: Radiant isn’t a split personality but rather Chanarach hiding in Shallan’s gemheart
