I had an orthodontic examination today and I need braces.
I don't want braces.

One of my worst nightmares is coming true: I'm running out of books.
What would you do if there were not any books you wanted to read in your house, because I have only been without books for a day, and my mind is already having a meltdown/I'm getting ridiculously stir-crazy. (I'm pretty sure I am addicted to books)

I am all of those things. I didn’t say the teachers aren’t nice. I love my teachers, I talk to all of them for like half an hour every day. But they make stupid choices sometimes, like have weird grading rules, testing us on stuff we haven’t learned (legitimately, not like I forgot it, it was NEVER TAUGHT), or group punishment. And then they can be unwilling to accept they are in the wrong.

Wow. I can’t believe it’s already been a year.
Instead of mentioning everyone who has been a friend to me, I’m just going to mention a few select people:
@Enter a username, you’re my brother and introduced me to the shard, so thank you.
@Channelknight Fadran, One of the main reasons I wanted to join the Shard was because I wanted to join FotT, which you created. I can’t wait to see where it goes from here!
@Ookla the Theoretical, I don’t know why, but I feel like we’d be best friends if we’d met in real life.
@Robin Hatter, you’re a really cool person- keep it up!
I’d @ more people, but I’m getting tired, so:
To everyone else: You’re all amazing and nice people and you all deserve the best. Thank you all for making it a great year by just existing and being you
To celebrate a year here, I’ve decided to share some art I’ve done~Hope you like it!

I’ve used my debit card twice in the year I’ve had it. Once at cook out, and then two days ago I bought a $2.14 combination lock to use in a homecoming proposal. That night, a series of purchases were made with my debit card. It has now been cancelled and a new one is being sent, but for some reason my account has been locked out.

Something really weird happened. A week ago I had a sickness that seemed to last only two days in its severity. But, yesterday at a youth activity, I stared to feel really weird. I'm not sure if I can describe it, but I'll try. Imagine you're standing on top of a very tall cliff, looking down, there are no guard rails, and you can't back up. A soft breeze picks up and you start swaying, an it feels like you're falling. That is what it felt like, except for the can't move part. That weird feeling spiked whenever I moved my head and I became super unstable. I left early and my mom took me home. Then, I started feeling nauseous, so I laid on the couch and fell asleep for a few minutes. When I woke, I tried to eat some soup my mom made because we think I haven't eaten enough for all the things I did that day and just had low blood sugar or something, because I was running on almost no food for when I did the plank/lunge test in PE, my ballet practice, and then going to the youth activity. I couldn't eat very much because it felt like my stomach just didn't want anything, so I laid back down and tried to get my head to stop spinning. Awhile later, I barfed.
*sigh* I guess there's no school for me today.
I'm starting to feel better and my head doesn't feel weird unless I move it too fast, but I had to stay home because you can't go to school 24 hours after throwing up.
And my sister said I ruined her life and she hates me and I'm no longer her sister and our parents love me more than her and stuff like that.
Yep my life is awesome right now. :[

Today, I was doing my classes online and outside on our porch swing. The neighbor's cat, Rosie, came and walked up to me. This is not an odd occurrence because she often comes up to our back door and meows at us to pet her, but instead of sitting at the back door, she came up next to where my chromebook is and put her front paws on the swing. Then, she jumped. On the chromebook. While I was in class. She was walking on the keyboard and it was adorable, but also annoying and surprising! I tried my best to get her off and eventually I was able to get my chromebook out from under her. Then she just sat down in the middle of the swing like she owned it. I took some pictures of her while on the swing 'cuz she's super cute:

Just finished reading through 5.2 pages of notifications after a ~2 week break from the shard.
-
I had a really busy week when I first dropped off the face of the planet. It went as such:
- Monday: The only actually open day that week. Nothing exciting happened.
- Tuesday: Orthodontics examination, which I already gave the outcome in a previous SU.
- Wednesday: Math Is Cool tournament! It was virtual so we could run around the halls at full speed during the breaks. (10/10, would do again)
- Thursday: Ballet
- Friday: Church game night. My non-member friend came and we had probably too much fun.
- Saturday: Stake get-to-know-you dance/game thing. I reconnected with a girl I met at girls camp and I saw one of my classmates there.
- After that, I just didn't get on here because I knew it would take an hour to read through all my notifications, and I didn't have an hour because of the glorious think known as HOMEWORK.
- Last Friday, I was the front-desk person for my dad's work for two hours after school because the front-desk person had a family emergency.
- Instead of getting paid, I got Minecraft so I could play with my brother because they've been playing pretty much non-stop once they found out how to play on our Microsoft Surface tablets.
- On Saturday, I went to a middle school play/musical my friend was in. It was called "We Will Rock You" because all the songs were from the band QUEEN and yeah. It was pretty good as middle school plays go because it had really good lighting and projections and the lead characters were really talented singers.
- Yesterday we went to our family-friend's house and watched The Maze Runner. It was a good movie- I recommend.
- I think I may actually be a Hallandren, considering neither of my parents actually saw me be born and I dress like this:
- Also I decorated the hat I wore for that picture myself
- It's conference week for school so I only have one full day of school this week. (Monday: No school. Tuesday: Normal school. Wednesday: Early release. Thursday: Late start AND early release. Friday: Early release) Hopefully I'll be able to be active here a lot this week!

I need help!!!
I’m participating in my school’s slam poetry competition and the poem is due tomorrow and I haven’t finished writing it yet! If anyone has any revisions, ideas, thoughts, or suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated!
Here’s the poem, so far:
———
One friend is sad
The other hates life
Another is mad
And more are in strife
Then why am I happy?
I’m living on a cloud
I’m always so peppy
And have reasons to be proud
When my friends need rescue
I’m a sympathetic soul
But how can I feel cut in two
When I’ve always been whole?
How am I supposed to empathize
With what I’ve never felt?
Should I maybe deemphasize
The feelings with which I’ve always dwelt?
Do I change nothing
Staying blind to what they feel,
Or do I love nothing
And let gloom take the wheel?
Should I only let darkness in my sight
So I can feel like my friend?
Or to them should I be a light
So they know it’s not the end?
Thus my inner turmoil sings
With pleads to understand
And with which my soul does ring
With yearning to take their hand
I want to say “it’ll all be okay”
But would my friends believe me?
To me, it’s always been this way
So how will I set them free?
This is all so confusing
But maybe I don’t need to revise
Maybe I’m doing enough and improving
So my happiness I won’t need to compromise
———After that, I’m planning on making like a list of actions that good friends take to help friends in need, in a format of like “When my friends ask, I’ll answer // When they talk, I’ll listen // When they cry, I’ll comfort” etc. so if you have any ideas for more verbs I can use, that would be great.

I joined tennis and so I have like zero time after school so that’s fun.
I had my first match on Tuesday. I was #6 Varsity singles and I lost. But it was really fun and it reminded my why tennis is awesome.
I had a 6-day streak of reading one book every day. But then school happened.
I read the Divergent series in four days (1 book a day, including the short story collection Four) and HOLY COW If you haven’t read it yet, go read it. It’s amazing. Though the ending is a bit… controversial. But it’s so worth it. I think it’s one of my favorite serieses now.
I also watched the first Divergent movie and it is nothing like I imagined the book to be. But it was pretty good.
I need to write an essay by Tuesday without any help whatsoever from ANYONE and I’m stressed out about it because my brain feels like a black hole made of oatmeal whenever I try to work on it.
I also read the Matched trilogy and it was pretty predictable. But it was good.
I made a ceramic cup-thing. Half of it is pink, the other half is blue with a grey Allomantic steel symbol.
Math is fun.
I wrote an essay about how school start times suck.
I like to look at memes and fanart about books I read right after I read them and I have wasted countless hours on doing just that.
I am a big procrastinator. I am also very tired.
I should probably go do my homework now…

Ah, Divergent. I remember reading that series; I also remember it being good. Looking back on it now… yeah, uh, I have some problems with the worldbuilding, but eh. If you enjoyed it, that’s all that matters.

My essay, for those who’d like to read it:
SpoilerDid you know that school administrators are inadvertently killing their students? Early school times have a massive impact on the lives of adolescents ranging from life-or-death situations to decreased mental and physical health, lower success rates in adolescents, and the detriment of the future of our nation as a whole. According to “How Would Later School Start Times Affect Sleep?” by Eric Suni, high schools in the US have an average start time of 8:00 am- much earlier than the average teen naturally wakes up due to their brain chemistry. School start times should be pushed back for the well-being of our students.
One of the leading causes of death among youth is car wrecks. There is a strong correlation between auto accidents and school start times. Additionally, according to “Lack of sleep can turn teens into ‘Zombies’” by Stephen Ornes, most reasons teens don’t get enough sleep at night is because they have to wake up early to be to school on time. Sleep loss is also shown to cause higher risk of depression. Severe cases of depression can lead to suicide that could be avoided by later start times. Lack of sleep can also cause people to make unwise decisions, many of which could have life-threatening consequences. If students partake in drugs or alcohol, it may cause their still-growing brains to be affected in negative ways such as choosing to drive while intoxicated. Also, while under the influence, students may do things that can risk their life that their drug-addled brain classifies as safe. School’s inability to start later is causing fatal results, but early start times can’t just shorten lives, they can also decrease the quality of life as well.
Many teens experience mental health issues and physical health problems, though they could be less severe if teens got more sleep. The article I mentioned above says that “Sleep-deprived teens… are more likely… to suffer from anxiety, depression, and mood disorders.” In that same article. It also says that sleep deprivation correlates with obesity. These two points illustrate the benefits of sleep, but there’s more. Often, when teens are tired, they drink energy drinks or other caffeinated drinks. This keeps them awake during the day but also disrupts their sleep at night. This causes them to be more sleepy the next day, and the cycle continues. Schools are causing students to lose sleep, meaning that they may be a major factor in many students having depression, obesity, and caffeine addictions.
In addition to better health, more sleep can result in better grades. One former teacher (now a sleep scientist) says that most of her students (presumably in the morning) were half-asleep, not participating or asking questions. This meant that the students weren’t fully processing the information, which led them to get worse grades. This is reinforced by a graph titled “Student Academic Performance” where a strong correlation between later school start times and higher average grades. The informational study/article “Later School Start Times Promote Adolescent Well-Being” by the American Psychological Association has a list of benefits gained from sleep. Some of the points include improved memory, learning, attention, information retention and cognition, and student behavior in the classroom. It’s common sense that all these things would help improve grades, meaning that more sleep can lead to success.
Some people may think, even after seeing these arguments, that it is still not a good idea to push back school start times because of the cost. In the article “Study: Later School Start Time Would Benefit Economy” by Kealey Bultena, it states that it would cost around $150 per student to make the changes required to push back start times. I would ask you this: How much is a life worth? I’d say that human lives are priceless, meaning that it’s worth any price to ensure the quality of the education of the students whose lives may rely on it. Speaking of the student's future, the kids of today grow up to be the adults of tomorrow. If we want our country’s - and maybe even our planet’s - future to be in good hands, we must educate the people who will be our future - and properly. They must get enough sleep so they can be educated citizens. Additionally, a study from the RAND company shows that moving start times back can add billions of dollars to the economy, offsetting the initial cost of moving back start times. Yes, it would cost a bit up-front, but it is worth it if moving back start times helps benefit youth’s lives, solidifying the future for students and improving our economy.
I ask the students, current or past, when did your school start? Did you ever feel like you got enough sleep at night? If you didn’t, you’re not alone. We can change school start times for the future generations by sharing with school officials the facts about sleep and later start times: It reduces death in students. It increases both mental and physical health. It helps students succeed, and it can positively affect our economy and future. School start times need to be pushed back, and you, the reader, can help achieve that.
Now go get some sleep.
:p

Wow. I can't believe I've been on here for two years.
All of you have been amazing friends and have definitely made a positive impact on my life. It certainly doesn't feel like I've been on here for long, but I definitely hope to be on here longer.
It kind of feels weird- when I joined, a lot of the people I interacted with were only on here for a year or less, sometimes two years. Now I'm one of the people who have been on here a long time.
A lot has happened since I joined, and it just makes me wonder how much more will happen in the future.
Also normal status update:
I only got 4.5 hours of sleep last night because our oven broke so we couldn't make dinner so we went out to eat. When we asked for the check, the waiter said that another person paid for our meal entirely (And we're a family of 6 so it was not cheap). That good samaritan also gave us a gift card for that restaurant with $200 bucks on it. I'm honestly still in shock. By the time we got home, it was after midnight so by the time I fell asleep, it was around 1 am. And I have to get up at 5:40 AM, so I almost fell asleep several times during school. Fun.

This is weird.
I just got back from the dentist where I got my first filling.
Rewind a few weeks where I went to the dentist and found out I got a cavity! Whoop-de-freak'n-do. I felt around in my teeth and found a small hole I could feel with my tongue. It was on the bottom right side of my mouth.
Now back to now.
I was listening to the dental assistant and she said they were filling in a cavity on my upper right, not lower. I asked her about it, and turns out I had five cavities, not just one.
...yeah. Not a pleasant surprise.
The assistant numbed the area and I got the shot to numb the nerve (didn't hurt as much as I thought is would- thanks, numbing cream!). A movie was turned on and the cavity was filled as normal. When I was done, I was amazed at how weird numbness feels. My upper right teeth felt like rocks and my gums just felt like... nothing.
On our way home, we got some Chipotle and I tried some of my soda. And I'll tell you now, it is so. weird. You cannot feel the carbonation of the soda on the numbed area, so there's just this area that seems to just not exist.
As I said, this is weird.

To be fair, these are my first cavities ever. (Probably because we moved three years ago and never got around to finding a new dentist until recently.)
