Hey Everyone! 2020 was an insane chapter in my life to say the least. On top of working remotely since March and feeling extremely isolated, it was also a very tough year for me personally. 2020 was filled with uncertainty, loss, and a lot of heartache. But with that being said, the year also gave me more free time than I've ever had in my adult life. I picked up a couple of new hobbies and was able to catch up on about a dozen video games and movies I had in my personal "what to play/watch next" queue. Then next thing you know, September rolls around and my buddy and I are at a brewery catching up. We talked about our years and the struggles we've faced, as well as more positive things like how we've grown and how we've been spending all of our downtime. Eventually my friend got on the topic of a series he just finished reading and how it absolutely blew his mind. The series he was talking about was Mistborn. I thought the premise sounded very interesting and unlike anything I had ever heard before. I grew up reading a lot of the Big 2, Vertigo, and Image series, so I never ventured too far away from comics and graphic novels when it came to my past experience as a reader. Epic fantasy novels were definitely out of my wheel house so I was a bit hesitant to dive in with a series that sounded so obscure to me. He insisted that it was beginner friendly and told me to at least try book one. I tried book one on my kindle and was immediately hooked. I try to never double dip when it comes to buying books but I immediately went to amazon after finishing The Final Empire and ordered it as well as books 2 and 3 in paperback. The series absolutely blew my mind. While some of the concepts were difficult at first to wrap my head around (this is the first time I've ever had to take notes while reading a book for pleasure) the payoff at the ending was so worth it. After I finished era 1 I went a bit crazy with the credit card and ordered Era 2, Elantris, Warbreaker, and Arcanum Unbounded for what I guess you could call my first Sanderson haul. I absolutely burned through these books finishing them all in about 5 weeks. Being a huge fan of connected universes the Cosmere quickly became an obsession of mine. I discovered 17th shard and the coppermind back in November and while I was extremely excited to find this community I stayed off of the sites to avoid spoilers. I just finished The Way of Kings last night and have Words of Radiance in the mail as we speak. As much as I wanted to avoid spoilers I also feel like I just need to immerse myself in this world and this community that is so passionate about it. I'm super excited to make new friends and dive into the Stormlight lore full force. I'm making 2021 all about catching up on as much Cosmere as I can and I can't wait to get caught up and discuss these crazy stories with some cool new peeps.
