  1. Remember, "shardbeaders can't hold ground." Kaladin hears the adage and is very confused. When Adolin explains it, Kal realizes he is much less knowledgeable about war than he thinks he is. He understands combat and squad tactics, but he is NOT a battlefield general. His understanding of large scale war tactics is limited by lack of training. And he isn't a soldier anymore. He took his retirement.
  2. I don't like the idea of a "War" shard. The other shards are more abstract concepts (Harmony, devotion, Mercy, etc). If someone combined Odium with Honor, the combination sounds like it would create Indignation, Vengeance, or Retribution. Conveniently, all attributes that would fit Szeth.
  3. Was listening to the Ba-Ado-Mishram Shardcast where they discussed the timeline of the Recreance and abandonment of Urithiru, and a question came to mind. Prior to BAM being captured, the Radiants were unaware of the ability to trap spren in gemhearts. Around the same time of the capture, the tower was abandoned, because the Sibling's abilities began to fail. The Recreance, theoretically, occured shortly after. In OB, the Midnight Mother is residing in the tower, near what I assume is the central control pillar. In fact, she had essentially wrapped herself around it. The Midnight Mother was captured by a Lightweaver in the past. The Coppermind says she escaped and chose to remain hidden in the tower until Shallan scared her away. How did they imprison her if it was before BAM being placed in a gemheart? If it was after they discovered it was possible, how did she escape? How would the Sibling feel about having an Unmade in Urithiru (both captured and living there freely) since I don't believe it was brought up in RoW? I know the timeline for the exodus and the Recreance is muddled, but it's a detail that I haven't seen discussed (though i haven't gone through the forum completely)
  4. Just went through this chapter during my reread. It's commonly accepted that this is an allegory for humans being the original voidbringers, but there may be more. Shallan summarizes the end of the story by explaining the girl stealing light and bringing it back to her people, allowing them to get past the wall. How did humans find their way to Roshar? Could someone (let's say Ash) have, as a young child, accidentally world hopped to Roshar, found stormlight, and returned with it, leading to humans travelling there?
  5. There is a conversation between them when Syl reveals she's watched other people "being intimate" and when Kaladin tries to think about being with a woman and Syl watching (and I think he imagines her offering suggestions and encouragement), he is thoroughly uncomfortable. Just her being present is unthinkable to him, let alone being involved.
  6. I enjoy the Kaladin/Jasnah ship not for the relationship, but for the in world characters trying to make it happen. I want Lift and Syl to meet, and decide Mr. And Ms. Cranky pants (Lifts names for them) should be Mr. And Mrs. Cranky couple. And Syl, trying to do everything to make Kal happy, working with Lift to make it happen.
  7. Voice acting is never a requirement. There are a lot of DMs that do it, but never assume you HAVE to. If you decide you want to do a little bit, save it for important characters as a way to draw your players attention. Having an NPC who "knows people" is a good way to direct and pace the story, as you can reveal important information at an ideal point in the narrative. If you want to have someone working as a hindrance to the party, they should have a reason why, maybe personal (they know a character in the party) professional (on a similar job at the same time) or simply convenient (it's their job). Unless it's Hoid, people aren't going to do things just because they can.
  8. Finished my reread of tWoK today, and I had forgotten that Taln is described as having dark brown eyes when he arrives at Alethkar. Sometime between his travel between Alethkar and his arrival at the Shattered Plains, someone switches his honorblade with a different shardblade. After the switch, his eyes are....dark brown. When a dark eyes bonds a shardblade, their eyes slowly lighten, as we see with Moash. If Taln's sword was switched with a regular shardblade, why didn't his eyes change?
  9. Could you compound nicrosil to make a massive amount of stored investiture, then convert that investiture to stored youth, so you don't need to burn atium because you are storing pure investiture into an atium metalmind?
  10. Truthwatcher, though Edgedancer and Elsecaller were extremely close on the test
  11. I stand corrected. I didn't see anything about being an avatar on coppermind, so I wasn't sure
  12. Im working on something similar, more in line with a monk/paladin hybrid, and the surges are unique class features instead, since some orders use their surges differently.
  13. We currently know the location of 10/16 shards. We know there a "survival" shard and a shard not on a planet. We don't know for sure Trell is or isn't a shard. It is possible, of the unidentified shards, an additional one is on Roshar. Maybe that explains the purelake.
  14. When someone irritates/insults you and you start holding your hand to the side and counting heartbeats
