  1. I read this chapter last night and all I’ve been able to think about think morning is that Kaladin REALLY needs a hug. It’s a double edged sword though, it’s that inability to accept that someone can’t be saved that has lead him to save so many. If he had accepted he couldn’t save the all bridgemen many of them, including Leyten, would be dead. Or what if he’d accepted he couldn’t save Elhokar when Kal was bleeding out and being pursued by Moash in WoR? Ya, the kid does needs to learn to forgive himself but his weakness of not letting go has lead to many great things.
  2. Let’s face is, Kaladin was a character written for greatness. He has depression, PTSD....but he does pull himself up to challenges and conquers them. He has many difficult struggles but those don’t solely define him. He is an amazing soldier and leader. He is extremely intelligent. Sanderson killed Jezrien for a reason and though Kaladin was dismissed from his position by Dalinar he will pull himself out and land somewhere far greater and more comfortable to him than high marshal. I think Patron of the windrunners would be a very fitting place for him.
  3. Couldn’t agree more. We haven’t read of Adolin having anyone close to him except maybe Renarin. I wonder how lonely he feels bc being married, everything Shallan experiences, he does to, in his was. I hope he’s getting support somewhere too.
  4. YES!!!! Shallon already has plate. She had a shard since childhood and “forgot” about that. I think she may have had plate but put that onto Radiant. shallon has other personalities she has denied and kept hidden since childhood. They tried to climb out at the battle in Othbringer but she pushed them back down.
  5. I’m not saying it does or doesn’t match Laral. I just don’t like the girl. It more about me than her, she probably is a great, amazing person. I just don’t like her. That really is the base of my reasoning for it not being her. That, and she’s boring.
  6. My husband is an infantry officer and has deployed a couple times, he has PTSD and depression. We have a great relationship and a big part of why it works is me NOT trying to fix him and just supporting him and accepting his brokenness. In a lot of ways it’s hard for him but in more ways his issues have made him a stronger, better man. Surgebinder or not, we all break, and that’s the beauty of being human. I think Kal could do a relationship but it would have to be with someone greatly independent who didn’t try to fix him but just loved him as his is, broken and everything. Storms, I hope that’s not Laral.
  7. I didn’t see it mentioned in the books but does Laral have kids? It seems a bit odd that she wouldn’t have had one or two in those 6(ish?) years she was married. Kaladin isn’t ready to be a father, if that’s even the case. I mean, he kinda has to save the world first. Not to mention the how PTSD and depression would effect that transition. I wouldn’t mind some flirting or even some kissing between Laral and Kal but in the end I’d like to see Kaladin reject Laral. However great she is or isn’t, she’s boring and Kaladin would get board. All these girls, Laral and Lyn, I really think Kal would just get board with them eventually. I’m still thinking there is a way for him and Syl to be together. She is a great balance of interesting and stable for him.
  8. Oh my goodness, that’s hilarious.
  9. I’d like to preface this with saying I’m probably completely wrong but why can’t I find any discussions on this? Here goes: Shallan is Odiums champion. I think Odiums champion will be one of the main characters (not a supporting one like Moash). It would be a waste of our heart string to have it NOT be someone we know so well. Shallan seems to just go along with wherever she lands. She hasn’t decided any moral left and right limits, let alone Moral foundation for herself. She has had no one in her life teach her any. She has always just done what she was told and was who she was expected to be. With her father, Jasnah, crazy wilderness thievery lady (can’t remember the name) and even as a radiant. Anything she does that she actually wants to do for herself, she is ashamed of and hides. From Drawing servants as a child to doing investigations as a radiant. The shame cycle strong in that one. I could easily see Odium’s preparations in her back story. Shallon only does what is best for Shallan. Her other personalities as well, they were created to protect Shallan. Killing her parents, killing wilderness lady, and I’m sure a few others, were all to protect Shallan. I think she Would side with Odium if it somehow kept Shallan safe. Kaladin killed her brother. We have yet to see any of that fallout but I think we will, with her other brother on their way. This may be the beginning of Shallan splintering off from the Radiants. Shallan also has a very intimate understanding of who Kaladin, Adolin, and Jasnah are, making her a great choice for Odium. Many people may make the argument that Shalladin isn’t a warrior and maybe she isn’t in the traditional sense but she could drum up some major mental warfare. She can create an army to look like anyone. Could Kaladin strike down a soldier who had the face of Tien? Or Cenn? Could Adolin strike down his wife? Could she bring Dalinar to his knees by recreating his dead wife’s crying face? With an army of void bringers behind her, that girl could do some serious warlording. I have two more thoughts, Kaladin, Adolin, Dalinar, And some others (maybe Taln?) will return to Brazie maybe as Herolds, maybe not as herolds, to fight the Fuzed there as a delay tactic and allow those staying on Roshar to get ready for the return in a predetermined 15 years. I include Adolin because I think for some reason Lift will need to go as the Edgedancer and Adolin (with his wife gone to the dark side) will volunteer to take Lift’s place. This act of sacrifice, not just to die in place of the kid but be tortured in place of the kid, will resurrect Maya and make hima radiant. The last thing I’m wondering about (because we all like to predict Kal’s love life) is that after returning from Brazie, he and Lift (assuming she ages) will be around the same age and they get together. Honestly Lift is the only character as smart-a and stubborn as him. I could see it working. I haven’t read any of these exact ideas before, I have seen similar ones, but not exact. And I’m wondering why? I’m sure I’m wrong in my theories and I would love to know why. Thanks!
