  1. Very cool, there aren't enough innovative board games out there, in my opinion. Thanks for sharing!
  2. Hello and welcome! I'm curious about this game design bit...I've been doing some solo development myself, a little on Unity, and a lot on Roblox. I've got a game I'm hoping to release in late August. So tell me more! What's your experience like, where does your genius lie...?
  3. I finished it, but it still doesn't make perfect sense. I guess: So it's grey but yeah I get it now.
  4. Yeah I know, you're right, but I thought it was funny anyway. I thought of this during the 'Fungeon' scene where Felix tries to break the cell bars with his hammer, only to thicken them, and exclaim, "Why do I fix everything I touch!" It just reminded me of how they are polar opposites in that way, and how Felix cannot destroy, while Ralph tends to do so unintentionally all the time. So yeah, it's not perfect, but close enough to make me laugh a little. That said, I do think Preservation probably could strengthen or improve something if it meant preserving it, similar to how Ruin can create with the intent of destroying. So maybe the cell bar thing still makes sense. And in any case, Felix can't create so much as restore, which isn't quite the same a preserving but yeah.
  5. Yup, minor spoiler but it's okay. I'm like 2/3 done, and I already know way more than I should.
  6. Wait Hero of Ages is greater than Shard, third only to Adonalsium and God Beyond?? I really need to finish that book, because thus far that makes no sense to me...
  7. Ha lucky, none of my family cares at all to read them I knew someone who had read most of them, but they moved away. I tried to get some of my friends to read some...I got one to read The Final Empire, but that was it. So now I geek out in my room alone when I should probably be sleeping.
  8. Gotcha, I thought the two novellas were adjacent. I'll probably save them for after Era 2 anyway, I still have Warbreaker, SA 2 & 3, Threnody, and Elantris to entertain me once I'm done with Hero of Ages.
  9. Ooh yeah I know just a tiny bit about that. I should read that and The Bands of Mourning between Era 1 and 2, right? Or is it better to finish Era 2 first?
  10. Also, I just read the mid-20 chapters of Hero of Ages last night, so: When you laugh giddily in the middle of the night just because Hoid's name shows up as a little easter egg, and then nearly cry when you realize Vin barely even interacts with him.
  11. When you pull out your change and have an overwhelming desire to swallow the coins. When you forget that Aragorn's sword Anduril isn't some sort of Shardblade or Honorblade. When you find Allomantic Symbols in the margins of your notes and assignments. When you feel exposed when you notice the button on your jeans is metal. When you stumble into the gymnasium after your PE final gasping, "Pewter. I need pewter."
  12. No actually, I've only read what my local library had (digitally, but still). I think it had potential, but the way the GN worked out was underwhelming. So yeah, I can see that being better, I'll check it out, thanks!
  13. I'm a little iffy about the whole thing, TBH. I get really attached to characters as they are. Gender changes in movies are a weird thing, to me it typically just feels like a feminism statement to satisfy those who are pushing for it. I'm not opposed, it's just seems like a cliche, and I would have a hard time accepting a cannon change like that. I like Ham as he is, he really completed the crew. A female Ham wouldn't be too bad, but it might mess up the entertaining vibe between Ham and Breeze. And Shan...well that could be okay, except the whole questionable engagement thing was a good way to show that Elend wasn't conforming to typical Nobility norms. Also changing Dockson would probably make his character feel a lot like Tia from The Reckoners...I don't know, I'm not too worried about it, but reading this post was odd. But in the end, Sanderson did say this was like an alternate Cosmere or something. It's a little bit of a shame that we wouldn't just be getting a film version of the original Mistborn trilogy, but improvements are fine by me so long as they don't spoil the originals...? And in any case, it's literally Brandon Sanderson. I think he'll pull out incredible in the end. (Unless the Mistborn Screenplay turns out anything like White Sand, I wasn't super impressed by that one) I guess I just hope it won't flop as much as the Skywalker Saga, or Artemis Fowl, or Ender's Game. I think the real reason I'm at all concerned is because of how infatuated I am with the Cosmere. Change is good, as long as it's good. And I think I trust that Sanderson will make it great, like he nearly always does.
  14. Yeah...well I live in Washington, so little luck there I'll just place the cute little bumblebee one I made, and keep the Cosmere ones for myself. That one I made was like 3-4 inches, but I definitely could have gone for a little smaller. That would be so fun to have all ten order symbols and all 19 Allomantic symbols on little colorful stones on my dresser.
  15. Haha yup, I think it would be fun to do all ten orders, and maybe even Allomantic symbols. But first I need to get my hands on some Cosmere books for my quarantine/summer binge reading!
  16. We were painting rocks and I gave this a shot. Turned out okay! I might add he surge symbols or ideals above it. I was he only one painting who had read SA, so I had several over-my-shoulder comments, “what is that?” EDIT: Not sure why it came out sideways, sorry.
  17. Gotcha, thanks. The rest of my questions can wait for WoR and beyond
  18. Oh, can a shard still be picked up after the Vessel has been killed? I thought that killing the Vessel shattered the shard and rendered it--but not the Shardworld or previously established investiture systems--sterile and unusable. But I guess not? I know I'm really getting into material for books I haven't read yet, but that's okay at a minor level.
  19. Makes sense. But things like when Vin drawing power directly from the mists would no longer be possible if Preservation was shattered, correct? Since that is feeding off of the Shardbearer's power itself.
  20. I've only read a couple books (tWoK is the only SA book I've read thus far) so I'm a little early still, but can someone help me understand why Honor's magic system is still intact if he is dead? Like, what happens when a shard is shattered? Does it still sort of function but is unable to be picked up? I'm okay with a couple spoilers theory-wise, but if you are unable to answer this question without giving plot spoilers just say so, I can just read and find out like everyone else Thanks.
  21. I thought this had to do with the energy being consumed by the phase change from the liquid in the cartridge to the gas that is released...but it would still make sense I think that a gas becoming less concentrated would consume heat as well, just to a much smaller degree (unless the Stormlight is really concentrated when stored, which, come to think of it, it probably is). So yes, I think this makes sense. Now I want to hear what Sanderson has to say about this, because his response to the question about frosting sounds like there might be more to it. Maybe along with light the Stormlight radiates heat energy...? Which must be overruled by the use of heat when the Stormlight is used and thus depressurized. Either way I think chill from use of a pristine, radiant magical energy source that can be stored in gemstones and changes the fabric of multiple realms is pretty epic. Honor's magic system is very elegant. Thank you for gathering examples Moridin, that was helpful.
  22. Yeah I WISH we could just do experiments like that
  23. This still doesn't explain why, for example, Szeth's clothing frosts over when he uses Stormlight. Honestly this sort of looks like Sanderson might need to review his facts... Let me think Shardblades form water droplets because the apparent chill condenses water vapor. This chill (I think) could either come from investiture (innate investiture??) or from the spren. Either way it probably has something to do with the spren bond, which I honestly am yet to read much about. But the fact that both the blade and the droplets remain solid and liquid rather than returning to a gas indicates that something is maintaining the chill AND/OR something is buffing the pressure. My guess, again, is spren or investiture (since we decided investiture is a third essence like matter or energy, and I wouldn't be surprised if spren somehow had control over phases.) But...Adhesion??? I've only read WoK, but I don't remember if frost forms when Kaladin uses Windrunner Surgebinding, so if not then maybe the frost has to do with the Honorblade being the source of Szeth's Windrunner abilities... Okay, I was just looking at the Arcanum and this was all I got: Questioner When Szeth Surgebinds, frost forms on his clothing. Why? Brandon Sanderson Ehhh, I’ll get around to talking about that eventually. Figment chat (Jan. 19, 2015) And I found this in a forum here: "Brandon has RAFO'd the question, saying he'll get around to it eventually. It's possible that it involves the unusual thermodynamic properties of Investiture, where there's a fourth law that Brandon doesn't want to talk about yet. We know for example that there are reactions in allomancy where energy that should be present goes 'somewhere' and it's going to play a role in future books. Something similar could be at work and it's seen around Windrunners because of the nature of their powers. I only remember seeing it around Kaladin (and later the Lopen) when he swears a new ideal and it's affecting Szeth during normal surgebinding for... some reason. I can't remember, does it not happen at all in WoR? Because if it does happen in both books, it's probably related somehow to the 'dangerous amounts of stormlight' thing and the relatively shallow bond the Honorblades have." The part I highlighted in green reminds me of the inexplicable lack of heat that should have been emitted from the deposition, so either Brandon needs to refresh his knowledge of phase changing or he is being remarkably clever in implementing this disappearing of energy. Also Brandon not wanting to talk about Szeth's frost yet might have to do with the unknown fourth law of 'Investodynamics'. Okay (I'm totally improvising this response, so it's all over the place), so now I'm thinking that this probably has to do with Investiture, considering that we don't fully understand it yet. My house is too noisy to think up a solid conclusion...I'll come back later to see if anyone can help me straiten things out or point out if I missed anything. P.S. I just found confirmation that investiture is a third essence in the universe
  24. Awesomesauce, this is all perfectly plausible and it's always fun to geek out But I personally think that Calderis is right in saying that Stormlight is Honor's Investiture manifested in the physical realm, so it isn't actually matter or energy. Investiture is it's own essence.
