  1. While browsing another topic, I came across this WoB: Either I'm not understanding the WoB correctly, or isn't this in conflict to Wax and Wayne taking the spikes from not-Wax (and/or not Wayne) near the end of TLM to give themselves a-duralumin and a-steel? Or is the question related to having an a-duralumin granting spike and then using it as a a-iron granting spike? Thanks for the clarification in advance!
  2. Sorry for the rant in this post, but, come on. It's amazing how some people don't care for the rest of us that want to avoid spoilers for Secret Projects. Read the spoiler policies. There's dedicated forums for that. All over different forums I have been spoiled about stuff from SPs.
  3. Isn't this Vindication a Vindication 2.0 gun? I do not have the book at hand, but didn't Ranette build Wax new guns and those are the ones Steris packs for the mission?
  4. I'm currently rereading RoW and I'm in the chapter from Navani's POV where Dalinar and Shallan combine their powers to Lightweave Roshar's map for the Mink. In this, chapter, Navani thinks while the map appears that "The Stormfather implied that Dalinar - as a Bondsmith - could do similar marvels with other orders, but so far their experiments have been fruitless." It left me wondering, what would Dalinar's power combined with other surges do? I'm thinking for example: - could Dalinar Connect better a willshaper to the spren of stones and (maybe) create something like Kolinar's windblades? - Can he provide a boost to soulcasting by connecting them to whatever they are trying to soulcast? What do you all think would other combinations do?
  5. Using the following quote from Syl about honorblades: "This sword gave the assassin power to use lashings, but it also fed upon his Stormlight. A person who uses this will need far, far more Light than you will. Dangerous levels of it." From what I understand, this would mean that the honorblade is consuming the stormlight, same as Nightblood, to do what they do, in Honorblades case: grant the surges to the wielder. This led me to a couple of questions: Can the honorblades be feed any kind of investiture, or are they tied to stormlight? (ex. Can a fused use voidlight to fuel an honorblade?) If Breaths can be used to power an Honorblade, could Returned kill themselves using one? And the additional, but maybe it's more related to the nature of Heralds, how did the Heralds get access to stormlight to continuously power their blades, did they really depend on gems? Or can Heralds produce stormlight as part of their perks package? (If I remember correctly Lift mentions that Nale starts glowing suddenly in one of her Interludes)
  6. I have questions regarding Shallan's Mother being a herald: Can a herald permadie with a shardblade? Has any other herald died by a shardblade before? Shardblades affect the soul too, can the heraldness (?) make them immune to soul damage by a shardblade? If I remember correctly, her mother's corpse eyes are burned, so she did die by the shardblade.
  7. @mathiau @Experience thanks for the replies. He did mention the 3 cosmere were from a character we know but that has no viewpoints until now. As only 1 character. Would be weird if they were standalones, with that character in random stories with no interconnection. Guess we'll find out in the coming weeks.
  8. As I was watching the video the first character that came into mind was Nazh for the 3 cosmere books. Did he mention they were a trilogy or stand-alones?
  9. I wouldn't say this points to múltiple Ascensions before Rashek. The quote mentions 2 orbits, which is the original orbit (pre-Raskek and the one Sazed returned the planet to), and the orbit Rashek moved it to.
  10. It's heavily implied that 10 is significant to Honor only, as well as 9 is to Odium. 16 to Scadrial (and bigger picture to the Cosmere in general). I would bet cultivation's number is different to Odium's and Honor's.
  11. I think we see an example of this in the epilogue, when Todium is able to modify/remove breaths from Hoid. He says something along the lines (and bear in mind this is from memory) of "I don't think this would hurt you". Complying with the previous Shards'/Vessels' agreement of not hurting Hoid.
  12. Is this canon? Shardblades I could understand because the spren still exists in the CR. Honorblades are pure Honor God metal, and were given to the Heralds by Honor himself.
  13. There's a point in Warbreaker where Llarimar is explaining to Lightsong their religion and states that: This is exactly what happens to spren, where crossing to the physical realm leaves their mind fragmented and after some time (and finding the right person) they start healing. However, this does not happen to those who have the surge of Transformation, as we can clearly see with Shallan/Jasnah goin to the CR. The only difference I can find between the spren/Returned to the KR with transformation is that the later are alive (have a physical aspect in the physical realm) while moving through realms. And here is where a theory popped up in my head. Spren/Returned being just investiture at the point they cross to the Physical Realm, their mind gets scrambled. The why I have not yet figured out, but I think it happens cosmere-wise and not shard dependent (Why would Endowment do this in purpose? If she returns people so that they can do something about what they see via Futuresight before passing to the Beyond, why scramble their brains?) I don't think we have seen someone from Scadrial return to the PR after being "Preserved", I do have to concede that eventually at the correct time, Lightsong did remember his purpose and the spren eventually get their memories back. But I do think that the mind scrambling happens cosmere-wise and would not be localized to Roshar and Nalthis. I would like to know what everyone else thinks. Thanks!
  14. There's a chapter in which Lightsong is listening to petitions and becomes angry after listening to a woman with a dying child. He them proceeds to storm out and we get the following: We have seen similar reactions to an uncontrolled biochroma: Is this similar to when a Misting/Mistborn is flaring a metal? Could an angered or emotionally stressed Awakener awaken better/easier because of the stronger biochromas? And is this inherent of Returned Breath or can this happen to any person with Breath? Does all magic in the cosmere react to emotion like this ? (I cannot remember an example from other books)
  15. So many, so I'll restrict myself to one a couple: Stormlight Archive -> Jasnah and Lopen Mistborn Era 1 -> Kelsier, Vin Mistborn Era 2 -> Wayne and Steris White Sand -> Khriss Cosmere -> Hoid How about you? Which characters would you like to meet?
  16. Nightblood is soo likable because it's really naive of the world around, and it just barely understands stuff and makes for a great comedic relief. My favorite sentient non-animated object in the Cosmere haha
  17. It's a difficult question, Lightsong is a brilliant character I find it amazing that he just doesn't care about being "god-like". But I think Vivenna is my favorite, she has amazing character growth through the book and her inquisitive nature is incredible. Hopefully, we can see more of her in RoW, but I'm not keeping my hopes up. Thanks! Thanks! And I thought the first one was a tough question. Haha. Coming from reading Mistborn, where the magic system was thoroughly explained (at least in the first book, and I know the knowledge the characters had of the system was flawed but we had Kelsier explaining everything to Vin) at least on my first Warberaker read I remember it was frustrating not having a good explanation from Vasher to Vivenna about what she could do with her Breath.
  18. Hi all, It's been a while since I joined the 17th shard, but never introduced myself. I think I originally joined to get access to the prose version of White Sand and never left I'm originally from Mexico, but been living in the Netherlands for 5 years now. I did my masters here and stayed to work. I started reading the Cosmere a couple of years before Sanderson was announced to finish the Wheel of Time. The first novel I read was Mistborn and have read almost everything canon-wise of the Cosmere. I'm just missing out on the graphic novels of White Sand. Non-canon I have read the prose version of White Sand, Aether of Night and couplemof chapter here and there of Way ok King's prime. My favorite novel is Warbreaker (so you can imagine I was really happy when several characters popped up in Roshar). Looking forward to continuing discussing crazy theories and the books. *Bridge 4 Salute * Javier
  19. Yeah, you're right. I totally forgot that the honorblade was stolen from Bridge 4. I tend to lean towards the theory that the knife killed Jezrien, not captured him, but this idea is good and ould have big consequences.
  20. I would say that if it was Jezrien's spiritweb that was captured, it would give whoever manages to do something with that stone the powers of a Herald, but not of a Windrunner. As I understand (and could be wrong) the ability to control the surges come from the Honorblade, the surges are not innate abilities from the Heralds.
  21. I don't think the amount of investiture needed would be significant for a shard.
  22. I'll tag part of my reply as a spoiler as we're in the Stormight Archive forum and I'll include some Mistborn and Mistborn Secret History stuff too. I'm not sure at this point there is something that can break the connection of a Shard with the Spiritual Realm, as there is where their power resides And Shards don't die in a traditional sense, when mortally wounded, because of their power, they take a long time to die, but do start losing their minds. The stormfather tells Dalinar that in the end, Honor was rambling about oaths. When he finally dies, Tanavasts Cognitive Shadow was the one that merged with the Stormfather. A cognitive shadow is the Cognitive representation of the person, while the body is its physical representation. The higher a person is invested, the longer the CS remains in the cognitive realm before passing to the Beyond. Dominion and Devotion's vessels were killed by Odium and to prevent someone else from becoming their vessel, he trapped their power in the cognitive realm, making what we know as the Dor. No one holds these shards, so no physical aspect of them, only what is pushed through the Aons drawn.
  23. This is interesting, but Nale also doubts of his own sanity if I recall correctly, even with his blade. We also see on screen other Heralds that, without their honorblade, are functional. Maybe the blade helps, but Taln is probably that way because of the amount of time he was tortured continuously. I don't think I've read anything that suggests this, and a lot that points that he is very dead. The Cognitive Shadow of Honor's vessel was the one that merged with the storms spren, the Stormfather. Which made the stormfather more aware. To be a cognitive shadow, the vessels physical body had to die. And during our time in Shadesmar, the spren are not surprised on the strength of the highstorm, I think it's weak in the CR because it's a reflection of the physical realm. We very clearly see Cultivation in the Physical Realm talking to Dalinar. We have also a WoB that says Taravaningan (probably spelled wrong) met cultivation too, as well as Lift. Dominion and Devotion are splintered and Odium pushed the investiture to the Cognitive. Cultivation is very much whole.
  24. "But... I can't-- I dunno if I've told people whether or not he at one point had the sword... But he does not have the sword now." i took his answer of "he does not have the sword now" as he had the honorblade at one point, not now.
  25. There's a WoB (I would quote it, but I'm super bad at finding WoB's) that states that Hoid at one point had the honorblade, but it's not in his possession anymore.
