“Why?” Such a simple question. What need could she, this wonderful, beautiful girl, have for him? He was a failure, coward. He was useless. No matter what she said about it, he was more of a drag on people than a helpful person. And he could see it in Jenny too.

“You make me feel like someone who deserves to be loved after years of me thinking that I was a monster who should be hated. You make me feel like I’m not alone anymore. You’re someone I know that I can always trust and will try to keep me safe.”

Jenny shifted so that she was looking at Ed’s face directly.

”You make me happy. I could probably survive without you, but I couldn’t truly live without you either.”

  2. Just now, Weaver of Lights said:

“It’s really fine.” He twisted a hand through her hair, playing with it. He realized he still questioned something, and he needed it answered. “Do you need me?”

    “I do.”

Jenny looked into his eyes, serious. She needed Ed. He was why she felt like a person who was worthy of love again. He made her feel that she was no longer alone in this world. He was someone who she could trust with all of her being and know that he would try to keep her safe. She supposed that she could technically survive without him, but the Jenny she had become would probably die.

Would that really be such a bad thing?

  3. Just now, Weaver of Lights said:

He jumped up in alarm at the sudden motion, hands raised, Gift raised. He lowered it as he realized they weren’t in danger. “It’s fine.”

    “Sorry.”

Jenny apologized again, feeling awful. She’d scared Ed. Moving like that when he was probably already on edge had been stupid. She settled back down, but didn’t rest her head on his again. She didn’t want to accidentally startle him again. Jenny had always been horrible at containing her excitement. Her inability to control her impulsiveness was embarrassing at times.

  4. 4 minutes ago, Weaver of Lights said:

He snuggled even closer, right up next to her. “I love you, you know that, right?”

He hid the fact that he still felt useless. She didn’t need to know.

Jenny smiled and rested her head against his. She sometimes still found it hard to believe that someone like him could love someone like her, but it wasn’t impossible to believe anymore.

“I do, and I love you too.”

She perked up, jostling Ed slightly.

”Oh my gosh, there’s a llama!”

She excitedly watched as they passed by it, then realized that she’d jostled Ed. She apologized sheepishly.

    ”Oh, sorry.”

  5. Just now, Weaver of Lights said:

He smiled faintly at her, but it wasn’t a true smile. “It was a small cyclops, and it was already hurt. I didn’t even get the spoils, Roy did. But I will protect you.”

He put his head on her shoulder. “Thank you.”

Jenny wanted to argue, note that Roy had stolen the skull from Ed, but she didn’t want to accidentally make things worse. He was smiling, at least. She didn’t want to risk making that go away. So she just tightened her arm around him instead.

    “Thank you.”

She decided that she would get that skull back from Roy. She needed Ed to be happy again. Plus, she felt like she needed to give him a present. So far, all she had gifted him was flowers and flower ash.

  6. 21 minutes ago, Weaver of Lights said:

    That’s true.

He shrunk down, curling up next to Jenny. No one really needed him. @Lunamor

Ed was shrinking. That was probably bad. Roy’s comment was the only thing she could think of that would’ve caused this, so she shot him another glare. She wrapped an arm around him.

”We do need you. We’re needing you more and more. You took down a freaking cyclops nearly single-handedly today!”

    She switched to a whisper.

”Plus, you’re probably the only other person on this quest besides me who really understands the truth about Roy. Everyone else has to be protected from him too, and I can’t do that alone. I can’t protect myself alone, either.”

"Yes, but have you seen him do anything" Aaron hisses "We do not know if he has a gift, it could be the best one here. Aside from mine of course." he says smugly

"Some priestess decided it" Aaron yells across the carriage, over the din.

Were Roy and Aaron arguing or just talking normally? Jenny couldn’t tell. It was weird that they were whispering about something. Were they trying to keep whatever they were talking about a secret? Maybe Aaron was trying to defend Ed but didn’t want him to know. He’d tried to secretly heal her before. She was looking at the duo kinda funny as she strained to try and hear their conversation.

  8. 3 minutes ago, Scars of Hathsin said:

"You do not know that" Aaron hisses, "All he said was one of the people on the quest" he says, rolling his eyes.

Would this conversation be audible to Jenny if she’s actively trying to listen?

There was a girl named Kylee who they were both good friends with. She and Edgar went on a secret quest to save the camp from monsters, and Edgar was unable to save her from being killed by hellhounds. Roy thinks that he was a coward who could’ve saved her but abandoned her instead.

  10. 13 minutes ago, RoyalBeeMage said:

"we need her not him!" roy said pointing towards jenny and edgar.

    @Weaver of Lights @Lunamor

Jenny glared at him angrily. Roy thought that Ed was useless, expendable.

    He’s not wrong.

He’d taken down a cyclops near single-handedly. He was getting better at fighting, at protecting them. Not that it was the only reason he deserved to be there, of course, but it was something even Roy should see as logical. But he just wanted Ed dead, and it probably would never matter how vital Ed was to the quest.

  11. 1 minute ago, Weaver of Lights said:

He wrapped his other arm around her, turning so he was facing  her completely. “It wasn’t, it was voice’s. And even if you played a part in it affecting me, I don’t care, ok? It just means we have a better chance at figuring it out together.”

Jenny nodded. He wanted to help her. To be honest, if she were trying to help Ed get rid of a voice in his head, she’d want to be exposed to it too. That didn’t make her feel any less guilty, though it was nice to hear that he wasn’t too bothered by it for now.

    ”Thanks.”

She spoke softly but genuinely. She really did appreciate his willingness to put up with this for her. It helped confirm that he really did love her, although she had already known that.

  12. 3 minutes ago, Weaver of Lights said:

He tilted her chin up towards him, looking into her eyes. “It isn’t your fault, ok?”

An old lady’s chihuahua began growling somewhere on the train.

    “Quiet down, my child.”

Jenny’s eyes looked like they were filled with sadness. She trusted that Ed believed what he said, but he was wrong. It was her fault that he’d been exposed to the voice.

    ”It is.”

The growling briefly distracted her. It sounded like it might be a dog. She looked around, trying to spot it. Maybe she could pet it. That would help make her feel better.

  13. Just now, Weaver of Lights said:

    “Yeah, of course.”

He was silent for a second, then, “It was the voice. It was laughing, and I knew something bad was coming. That was it.”

     He shrugged.

”I don’t think anything bad is on this train though.”

    “Oh.”

So it had been her fault. Jenny paused for a moment awkwardly, feeling too guilty to make eye contact.

    ”I’m really sorry.”

Something bad was coming. Did that mean the voice was going to hurt Ed? She had to stop it. But that might require drastic measures. He wouldn’t like it. Was it worth destroying his happiness because of something that admittedly might not end up happening?

I don’t remember the chimera too well so I’m probably not very helpful with running it.

  14. 1 minute ago, Weaver of Lights said:

“Yeah.” He relaxed even more, putting an arm around her again.

Ed was relaxing more, that was good.

“Is it ok if I ask what it was about?”

Jenny wasn’t sure if she was prying too much, but she was concerned. Maybe she could help him if she knew what the nightmare was. She hoped that it wasn’t her fault. She kept on messing everything up for him and her guilt about it was weighing on her.

  15. 1 minute ago, Weaver of Lights said:

He blinked his eyes open, afraid. He saw Jenny and slowly started to relax, sinking against her.

    “Bad dream?”

Jenny couldn’t read Ed’s expression to figure out how he was feeling. She did notice that he had been tensed up, however. That wasn’t a very good sign. She pulled him a bit closer, trying to comfort him in case he needed it.

  16. 12 minutes ago, Weaver of Lights said:

Eventually, his exhaustion caught up to him and he fell asleep.

He dreamed, as demigods usually did. All he heard was laughter, the same laughter of the voice.

Edgar began twitching in his sleep.

Jenny felt Ed twitching and turned to look at him.

    “Are you ok?”

She then realized that he was asleep. Maybe he was having a nightmare. She shook his shoulder gently, trying to wake him up. He might be fine, but she didn’t want to risk it. Nightmares had the potential to be especially bad for demigods. Particularly when she’d already been reckless enough to allow the voice to invade his dream.

  17. 2 minutes ago, Weaver of Lights said:

He smiled widely. He’d almost been asleep, but he was glad he hadn’t taken asleep quite yet. He kissed the top of her head. “I love you too.”

Jenny smiled and snuggled a little closer. She wasn’t sure what to say, but she felt like she didn’t need to say anything. She was perfectly content to sit with Ed and point out the occasional animal they passed by. Everything felt safe again, and she managed to actually relax.

  18. 8 minutes ago, Weaver of Lights said:

“Yeah, they are.” He squeezed her side gently, knowing what she must be thinking about. He kissed her cheek again, then leaned his head against hers.

Jenny leaned against him too. She used this as an opportunity to look out the window again, as she couldn’t see his face from the angle they were sitting at. She still continued to point out the animals they passed, but she was quieter now. While she was still incredibly tired, she didn’t want to sleep at all. She turned her head to look at him again.

    ”I love you.”

This was a bit unprompted, but she wanted to say it. He was making her so happy and he needed to know that.

  19. 2 minutes ago, Weaver of Lights said:

“My dog…” he grew a little sad, thinking about him. He hadn’t seen the little sheepdog for a while, and when he did it was always quick visits.

“What’s your favorite kind of animal?”

Jenny wasn’t too familiar with dogs, but from what she had seen and heard she assumed that she would like them. She’d have to pet Ed’s dog too.

    “Cats. They’re really cute.”

She smiled softly, thinking of her old cat Johnathan. She managed to block out the traumatic memories associated with him. She wouldn’t let them ruin her train ride.

  20. Just now, Weaver of Lights said:

“Yeah, they would. Just don’t try to pet the goats. And watch out for snakes.”

She seemed very excited about sheep. They weren’t that special, were they? Maybe she just liked unimportant, uninteresting things. Like him.

Jenny nodded, relieved that the sheep were friendly. She’d heard about goats being mean and head butting people before, so maybe she’d just admire them from a distance. She wasn’t too worried about the snakes. Regular ones were practically harmless when compared with basilisks.

She kept switching her attention between the window and Ed, wishing that she could look at them both at the same time.

”What’s your favorite animal that you have?”

Don’t say that last part aloud to Jenny

  21. Just now, Weaver of Lights said:

“A couple horses, some pigs, some cows, some sheep, a cat and a couple dogs.”

Jenny’s eyes lit up when he mentioned the sheep. Her brand new dream could be fulfilled!

”That’s so cool! Do you think the sheep would let me pet them?”

She was gonna try regardless, but wanted to be prepared. She didn’t want to lose a finger. Sheep seemed like they were pretty docile, though.

  22. 1 minute ago, Weaver of Lights said:

“Yeah, we do. A lot, actually.” He kissed her cheek. “I like seeing you this excited about things.

Jenny finally turned to look at Ed and smiled. He was so sweet.

”What all do you guys have?”

She had already wanted to visit his home, but now she was doubly excited about it. Did he live on a farm, maybe? Hopefully he had sheep she could pet.

  23. 9 minutes ago, Weaver of Lights said:

He laughed. “You’re going to like my house if you ever come by.” He snuggled a little closer to her, just as  fascinated by her as she was by the animals.

    “Do you have animals?”

Before Ed could respond, she saw a sheep. It looked very, very fluffy. She now desperately wanted to pet one.

    ”Oh, a sheep! That’s new!”

She hadn’t made eye contact with Ed yet, still completely engrossed by the view outside. This train was even better than she had expected.

  24. 4 hours ago, Weaver of Lights said:

Edgar wrapped his arm around Jenny. He had given her a window seat, as he assumed she’d want the seat. He smiled at Roy.

    @Lunamor

Ed had assumed correctly. Jenny had her face pressed against the glass, watching the scenery zoom by. She was absolutely fascinated by the train, happy that she had seen the white puffs of smoke and heard the whistle a few times. It was noisier than she had expected, but she was too excited for that to bother her.

    ”Look, there’s a cow! And a horse!”

She was particularly thrilled to see the farm animals standing in fields. You didn’t tend to see things like cows back at camp. This excitement was evidenced by her pointing out every single one she saw.
