  1. What character did I like best? I've thought about this over the past couple days and have wavered between Renarin, Vin, Hammond, Elend, Sarene, and a few others. Ultimately I have to go with gut and say Shallan is my favorite. She wasn't on this list during my first read of WOK, but upon rereads Shallan's character became much more interesting. It took me a while to experience Roshar from her perspective but eventually I found her naivety relatable. It seems like so many of Brandon's characters have been-there-and-done-that. Shallan endeared me through her courage and skill when she really was just reaching for a switch in the dark. Obviously she has talent, but she also has the drive to put her talent to use and the perseverance to overcome her past. Shallon's chapters make Roshar feel so much more alive. I can taste the danger and see the beauty of Roshar a little more clearly from her perspective. My user name is a reference to a song called "Rocking Chair" from The Band. They are one of my favorites and I highly recommend their work.
  2. I've finally taken the plunge and made an account. I've only briefly begun looking up Sanderson related forums, reddits, etc. I started reading his books about 18 months ago and have read everything in the Cosmere multiple times and have just finished Skyward. When searching for new fantasy/sci fi to digest over the past few years, I came across The Way of Kings more than a few times. For a variety of silly reasons, I never gave it a chance. I assume my journey is similar to most: before finishing WoK I ordered WoR. After Words, I read mistborn saga 1 and 2. Elantris and Warbreaker followed. I devoured Oathrbinger at launch. All of the novellas and arcanum were sprinkled in there somewhere. I gave Skyward a chance this past week even though I thought it wouldn't live up to my expectations for a Sanderson novel due to it being YA and because I tend to be more picky about my sci-fi than my fantasy. My advice to anyone on the fence: embrace the Sandernova! Anyway, I'm excited to jump in some Skyward and Stormlight speculative chat!
