I don't know why, and I might have completely made this up out of nothing, but I created a theory in my head where you could steal someone's identity and then start using their metalminds if they were a feruchamist. Somewhere along the line, I just started assuming you could steal identity... I think I need some sleep!

So I was thinking about the lashings and I started thinking about the nitty gritty details behind how they actually work, specifically the reverse and basic lashings. Let's start with the reverse lashing. I don’t have my book right now so I’m just going to quote the wiki instead: Gravity is associated with the windrunners but I don’t think it can be the same gravity that we’re used to here on Earth that they’re manipulating. It doesn’t feel right to me (gut instinct, no proof whatsoever) that a reverse lashing is just increasing the gravity of a particular object. It would basically amount to massively increasing the mass of that object which from the books just isn’t true e.g. kaladin can still carry his bridge despite inadvertantly using a reverse lashing on it to attract arrows. And now the basic lashing: In this case, using a basic lashing completely negates the "normal" gravity we're used to and instead creates a new direction for "gravity" for the object you're lashing. I think Brandon would have put more thought into it than that. Here is what I propose: The key is that they are both described in terms of a gravitational spiritual bond. What if on Roshar (and maybe the cosmere at large?), gravity of the kind we know doesn't exist at all. Instead, forces of attraction depend on how strong your spiritual aspect is or to coin a phrase, your "spiritual mass". If I left it that, there would be all kinds of problems. Things with a lot of spiritual mass e.g. shardblades would attract to each other which we haven't seen any evidence of. So to fix this, I propose that you need a spiritual gravitational bond for the attraction to have any effect. This way, you could have all the spiritual mass you wanted but you wouldn't attract anything unless the bond was there as well. Implications of this are that Roshar must have a massive spiritual component to keep everything attracted to it. A problem with this theory is that things with a large spiritual component would feel heavier which doesn't seem quite right. To be honest, I think this theory is full of holes but that there might also be a tiny slither of something to it. I find it interesting at any rate and am curious for other opinions!

Bearing in mind that I haven't read Allow of Law yet (yes, I know, I'm a bad fan...) so I don't quite know how this works but... according to the wiki, aluminum is used to store "spiritual sense of identity." I would hazard a guess that a spike exists to steal this spiritual sense of identity and that a shardblade is attatched to its owner via their identity so by stealing their identity, you could steal their blade. Which I think might be what windrunner was saying above now that I think about it.

Weird how we interpreted allomancy differently The way I see it is like this. Allomancy/Awakening requires metal/breath to act as a gateway to the relevent fuel i.e. the well of power that allomancers feel/colour. Without the metal/breath, you can't access the well of power/colour. Now that I think about it, it's not perfect as you have pointed out that with allomancy, the metal is used up but in awakening it's the colour that's used up. ....I dunno.....*head desk*

Hmmm, not so sure on this one myself. My main issue is that stormlight seems to be the fuel of Rosharian magics while's breath seems to be the gateway (as opposed to colour which I feel is the fuel) for Nalthian magics though I am aware that that is still a matter of some debate...

This would be cool but I think that the evidence points against unfortunately. It's explained in Warbreaker that Vasher and his wife (can't rememebr name right now) created nightblood by infusing steel with a ton of breaths and that when she wanted to releases the knowledge of how to create sentient swords...well, let's say she met with an untimely end. Unless Vasher some how travelled to Roshar and became a herald, I don't see how Nightblood could be a Honor/Dawn/Whatever-shard. What's the cronology of TWoK and Warbreaker anyway? Also, Nightblood is the only sword of it's type in existence (as far as we are aware) and there is more than one herald with more than one honorshard. Interesting to think how a sword like Nightblood would be used on Roshar though.

She wasn't a major character but Kaise always bought a smile to my face with her little quips. Especially in scenes involving her and Sarene

Well the short answer is no. Depending on exactly how much weight you "lost" while you were storing it, you might be able to float but any kind of walking motion would be pretty difficult. I think it'd be impossible to balance with the water moving around below you. It'd probably be a bit like trying to walk on jelly (if that could hold your weight), only so much worse.

Introducing the Huuuuuman Hammer!: *Steel pushes a nail into a piece of wood...* I think I mentioned this in another thread somewhere already Oooh, also, water-skiing would be great fun, just pull yourself along with iron pulling (assuming we were in a world with speedboats and allomancy :S)

Elantris 2 here. I really want to find out how all the magic systems arise on Sel and how they are related to each other. Future Mistborn and some of the other books are a bit too far away for me to be too excited just yet.
