  1. I mostly agree. If some of the interludes are dropped, the overall story just does not make sense. For instance, Lift starts as an interlude between Part 3 and 4 of WOR. Even putting the interludes as shorts which a large portion of the viewing audience will not seek out on their own may cause confusion.
  2. I read the story in a different way. To me "Defending Elysium" referred to his desire at the beginning to defend the other races from Humanity. It turned out that the other races were not so pure themselves and had dissidents escaping (one of whom almost killed him). I took his decision to release FTL to Humanity as based on an attempt to save the human race. These dissidents have already started to take over human bodies (with uncertain success). Releasing Humans into the universe increases the chances of survival. I wonder if the war is actually due to dissidents in human form. Most humans wouldn't have a clue if their "leader" is actually an alien in a human body.
  3. 2 questions: 1. Do we know for sure that atium is exactly equal to the chunk removed? 2. Atium is no longer created. The amount had to be quite small after Kelsier destroyed the Pits of Hathsin. Vanishingly smaller after the final battle in HOA. How much atium do you believe is still in existance and does this energy not need an outlet? Given that the atium did not always exist as a set amount in physical form, I don't know why people cling to the need for the physical aspect to be constant.
  4. I'm not sure this can be used as a standard. Humans on Scadrial contain "more" preservation than ruin. However, what this means is undefined except in esoteric terms such as "imbalance". In addition, I'm not sure weight (heavier/lighter) can be used as a measure. This could be more cognitive or spiritual. I'm not sure you can quantify it.
  5. Actually, I was not suggesting Nightblood contains atium. Merely that atium has a temporal effect and Nightblood seems to have difficulty with properly discerning the passage of time. Could some part of Ruin's investiture specifically effect time perception? Atium was specific to Scadrial. If the investiture is dumped on another planet (or object), separate from Scadrial (and we know Harmony is putting it somewhere) does it still have a temporal effect? As I said, I'm stretching here. Playing with ideas which may give a more cogent theory to someone else.
  6. I agree it is very unlikely. However, since you brought up Atium, and I like to play with ideas, Atium affects time...... So a metal that has a temporal effect, and a sword that doesn't have a clear sense of time........ Yes, I'm stretching here. But it may give other people a better idea.
  7. Your comment caused a radical (and probably wrong) theory in my mind. Is there any possibility that Sazed could be dumping excess "Ruin" into Nightblood? Alternately, Could Nightblood be a result of a inexperienced shardholder (Sazed) looking for an outlet (Nightblood) which just happened to occur?
  8. While I agree that it can be jarring at times, I think the interludes provide more context into Roshar as a whole. In addition, Rysn from interludes has already had an impact on the main storyline and Lift started as an interlude character. I read them now wondering if any of the other characters will become important at a later point.
  9. Well, obviously Jasnah is the only Kholin to have achieved Kolinahr..........oh wait, I'm mixing worlds again........ Seriously though, I think Jofwu has done quite a bit of research on glyphs. I tried to find a specific thread but could not.
  10. ...Clearly, I need an editor. "I would have to go with your second possibility. Like you, I seem to remember her putting this out as her Radiant order although I can't find the passage right now. This suggests that Odium is getting his information through spies. I will have to agree with Calderis here. He is relying on information not gathered through futuresight in this case and his spy network is rudimentary at best. Also interesting that the Ghostbloods seem far superior to him in gathering correct information. It should get very interesting in terms of information gathering." Apologies.

  12. This could be correct. Honestly, I grouped Rock more with Willshapers. I think there is a certain quality to the spren (e.g. choosing Eshonai/Venli although not fully confirmed) which leads them towards unconventional/experimental decisions. Choose a listener, then choose a listener hybrid. However, this could be more accurate.
  13. I'm kind of surprised so many think Shallan will survive. She is number one on my dead list.
  14. Void + Illumination = Volumination? ...........really bad joke. going to bed now.
  15. Honesty, my opinion of WOT was much the same as mattig89ch. I read book 3 and it was Matt that was the final nail in the coffin. I am glad that so many people enjoyed the books and I wanted to stick it out to get to Sanderson's portion, however, it was not to be.
  16. I think this is an important pivot point. How did Nightblood arrive? Is Vasher responsible for his handover to the Nightwatcher? Is Yesteel? Has Vasher actually communicated with Cultivation? It may be just backstory, however, it may not.
  17. I'm going to add that Vivenna/Azure is at least 6 years late to the party. Nightblood was (in my opinion) alluded to in Dalinar's flashback with the Nightwatcher/Cultivation. Perhaps Yesteel escaped (with Nightblood) and Nightblood was briefly in the possession of the Nightwatcher, or the "falling out" between Vasher and Nightblood occurred around their arrival on Roshar?
  18. Interesting. If that is the case, then the gemstone (or 9 more like it) could completely break the Oathpact. If this would also release Odium, it makes sense that this is his alternate plan after the failure with Dalinar. Alternately, one must wonder if the gem can be used to add a new individual to the Oathpact.
  19. Does anyone have any ideas on what the current secret project is? I will, of couse read it. Just wondering if there is anyone else who would like it to be a full version of "I hate dragons"?
  20. Elsecallers and Willshapers: It is not "a funny practical joke" to transport people to Shadesmar and leave them there. It is also not acceptable to agree to bring them back and leave them on a remote island or mountaintop. You have been warned!
  21. I am looking for everyone's input on how they believe Honor was splintered. Not the obvious "he was killed by Odium" type thing. How did it play out? Odium was restricted on Braize presumably since the final desolation, yet Honor did not die until slightly before the Recreance. Was Honor mortally wounded during one of the desolations (or even before them) and it took possibly thousands of years for him to die? Did one of the unmade somehow do it? Does Odium's splintering ability not require a physical proximity (only a cognitive or spiritual one)? I am just looking for thoughts.
  22. I am surprised by some people's reactions to the Sadeas murder storyline. We, as the reader, get to read the first hand accounts from Adolin, Shallan, Dalinar, etc., however, the average "in world person" would not. Sadeas was murdered, another noble was murdered in much the same way.........Another murder, and another........Shallan and bridge 4 chase off an unmade!(Re-Shephir) Suddenly the murders stop. Why would the average person in world (who knows nothing of the story behind the scenes) not cheer Adolin, Shallan, and bridge 4 and move on? Ialai is left without any possibility of popular support and Sadeas soldiers, whatever they believe, are now even further outcast for supporting leaders (at this point Ialai and Amaram) who look like fools given an Unmade has been discovered and chased off. What am I missing in this plotline?
  23. Two proto-lightweavers killed. I wonder if highspren have a beef specifically with cryptics.
  24. I guess I can understand that people wanted more/something else to happen. For myself, it was what I expected from the middle book of a series.
  25. If you wish to lock it down, go ahead, see it as straight forward. I do not. In Edgedancer, she thinks that her request was to "not change". Compare this with the WoB: She asked something very strange................ Not Changing is strange?!! Not Aging is strange?!! We have entire industries (makeup, plastic surgery, etc.) dedicated to making people appear ageless/changeless. Whether Lift just met the Nightwatcher (unlikely) or met Cultivation, I doubt it would have taken more than a few human visits for someone to request to remain "ageless" or "changeless". To me, this suggests she is an unreliable narrator. I base my opinion (and it is just an opinion) on her behavior. It does not suggest a 13 year old to me.
