  1. Maybe it's a bit of a stretch. Or, perhaps I have really gone full potato and this is my way of letting the world know... This may get long, probably ranty, and as I've been wont to do lately will more than likely crash off topic not merely mid sentence, but the possibility of a word being left incomplete, because look! A weird bug! has been happening to me too much lately. Oh, and since I'm too out of shape and lazy to just bite the bullet and add a signature line (not only at the current moment, but also for the foreseeable future, because I just won't have the motivation, effort, or ambition and likely there is a woman somewhere who will drive to PA from Oregon to be my wife and give me lots of money, if I just cashapp her the $25 dollars she needs to buy enough gas to travel 3000 miles who has all of my attention at any given moment of my life), I'll just say here that I'm a tough pill to swallow, am very abrasive, and if you're offended by anything you read I'm not really sorry, since nothing is directed toward a real person (other than my self depreciation) and you should probably grow thicker skin. Everything isn't about you Janet. Idk if the upcoming thought has been touched on before, or if there's like, a super secret invite only hidden subforum dedicated to breaking this (probably reached for) tidbit down, and making it tick, fitting it into the story now, opposed to the last paragraph of book 10, just to have the claim to fame. Admittedly, this is the only Cosmere forum I take in... There's already far too much moving in my head to cram it with even more information about one of the few things to bring me joy lately.... Anyway... I spend some time each week staring up at the night sky (mostly hoping that an alien race finally shows up, and I can sucker them into taking off this dump before anyone notices them), as I'm in the middle of no where, I have a lovely view of the stars. (And if my neighbor ever installs a timer/motion sensor on his insane driveway light for his tenants or, someone does something bad like shoot it, the view would be glorious) I'm sure some of you are aware that last weekend was the peak of the Perseids meteor shower (jaw dropping out my way), so I've been soaking up as much of the show as I can get. And as it always happens, my mind floats to the showers radiant point, the origin. Inevitably that resparks the idea that I've always found it.... interesting? that a lost order of world saving knights with powers incomprehensibly vast should be called the Knights Radiant. And boy it suuuuuuure is coincidental that they shine like a star when full of Stormlight, and are wearing living plate. And each time my thoughts go there, and the coincidence makes me smile a bit, I remember that every time this train boards in the gray matter, I always end up under a table, with my tinfoil hat on, petting a cat that I've forced into a homemade outfit to make look like an Honorspren (totally kidding, but now that you've mentally seen it go with it!), telling myself that I need to login here instead of lurking and put my delusions in writing for you all to enjoy. So, without further adue; There's always another secret, right? There's NO WAY the whole "night radiant/knight radiant" thing is a coincidence, is there? Let's for the sake of discussion all agree with me because I'm always right anyway, and say that the name is hinting..... At something. WHAT COULD IT BE!??! What's the play on the words about? The end game? How does it fit??? Is it the beginning or end? I need to know! What do you all think? Let's put the heads together and figure this one out. Because, I'm turning 40 in about two weeks, and my family is.... Not known for their youthful appearances and about average life expectancy. I've got about 15 years left according to my math, which means... I'll never get to know how it ends. So, (K)nights Radiant is now the official end phrase/game/final secret for the Cosmere (according to me <and, as it was written above, I'm right. It wouldn't be on the internet if it's not true either>). So what is the connection??
  2. So, warning... Long road ahead. My thoughts are sincere, and I'm team Roshar here. I probably will have tons of grammar, spelling, and structural mistakes that I don't care enough to go back and fix like the grammar natsoc I normally am. Because this device is poo, and my back hurts, and I'm old, and you kids don't know how good you have it these days, I need a nap. I've seen the idea on a few threads lately that Preservation was a big ol jerkface because snapping is like super not nice... And it bugged me enough to pop in to opine. Also, I haven't seen what to me seems like a pretty logical point expressed, so sorry... You're stuck with me, and my crummy "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" point of view. Era 1 Mistborn... Mistborn have been around what, 1000 years by the time Kel is seen smiling in the field? I'm sure someone can tap in with the precise timeframe, but you get the gist regardless. From TLR taking the power at the well and giving his closest homies that little bead of magic mojo metal, how many generations do you think it took for Early Mistborn and noble families to understand that trauma potentially (but not always)=not being judged for drinking Goldschlager at 8:17 in the morning? Let's be conservative and say it took 5 generations, or about 100 years for them to realize when the awkward kid at the mansion three manors down got kicked in the dome by a horse, he not only didn't die, but was fine and had a whole new swagger about him? So, from that point, to the takedown of TLR, 900 years has gone by. Where over time people have forgotten "mistsickness" because superstition and ignorance kept people locked inside away from the mist which caused the mechanism of mist snapping to disappear from memory. Only to be replaced by "welp, the heir hasn't snapped yet, hold this belt and give me a bat" being essentially the only known viable way to unlock that conduit. Preservation didn't have a dark side (in this respect anyway...), the lust for power, positioning, court advantages, favor with TLR, and the fundamental ignorance of the latter generations caused a cultural decay to fester. Think about the concept this way. How many of you guys have a friend that when a mechanism, or remote, or phone, etc doesn't work after a try or two they don't sit back, reevaluate, ask themselves what could they possibly getting wrong, but instead the mash the button again, just harder this time. Harder than that the next. After the finger reaches maximum button press power level, they start yelling at or cursing said device upon each unsuccessful attempt. When all they had to do was take that nanosecond and say "oh crud, this door opens out instead of pushing in". If you haven't the faintest idea what I mean or can't think of a single person in your orbit who does that I hate to break it to you, but you're the extra hard 8th attempt and yelling friend that your buddies enjoy watching melt down. Pulling back on track here, 900 years of "beat the kid harder. He'll either snap or die, I'll just make another" is what people SHOULD be upset over. That lust for the edge over your rivals pushing you to murdering your own offspring is not only brutal, it's disgusting and speaks volumes about human nature. The brutality is in the less than perfect construct, not the creator. Now, where have we seen other magic systems where the "snap" to make the connection hasn't been referred to as brutal (yet, that ive noticed and feel is far far worse)? Stormlight spoilers: That's my rant. Any spelling or continuity errors can be blamed solely on this junk phone and it's inability to keep up with my key strokes. Phones fault! Hindsight being 2020, I should have outlined this, bullet pointing each section summary, then spoilering the meat and potatoes of each point I incomprehensibly made, keeping my thoughts and their articulation need and orderly. But I'm more of an organized chaos personality. Without the organization. So... Chaos. That's what it's called. If I was a nice dude, I'd go back and do that now... But I'm tired and it's time for breakfast. (PS, I'm clear minded and level headed, no need to have me sent back to the place with the flavored wallpaper). Enjoy your day folks, I'll post again in another 3 to 5 years or so. Hopefully one or two of you chuckled.
  3. I see your 14 words, raise you 88 precepts, and will be sending DM after submitting this reply.
  4. I just reread Dawnshard, and the and it reminded me the manner in which Lopen's Words are accepted bothers me, a lot. Whenever you see someone swear an ideal other than the first, it's a high stress situation where the power boost is needed. Twice, we see Lopen in a tight spot, say the words, and they not be accepted.... yet a short time later, talking about how they aren't accepted, they are, almost mocking him.
  5. That's what I was getting at; preshattering... I havent read any of the noncanan unpublished chapters, but I've never seen Hoid referenced as 'mortal'. In fact, for some reason I recall him stating something along the lines of "I don't believe/I'm not sure if I can be killed" (admittedly, I don't recall which book, or where, or context... I need to reread from WoK again.) I don't know if Harmony would gain all past knowledge upon taking up the power of Preservation and Ruin. In fact, I seem to remember Harmony mentioning there are things that he is still learning/uncovering as well. Perhaps he understands that Hoid didn't take up a shard, but if Hoid=Adonalsium (as my admittedly crackpot theory surmises), why would he take up the power of an individual shard?
  6. So, I read this in the wee hours of the morning... and my mind immediately put 2 and 2 together. I didn't want to immediately jump to a conclusion on a blurt out my thoughts without teasing it out... But the thought stuck with me all morning. So bad in fact that it troubled my sleep. Now, I haven't dove too deeply into the lore behind the Shattering, and though I've read all that's been published in the cosmere, there are people on this site who are far quicker to make connections and delve into the intricacies and theories and intrigue in this amazing universe. I may be nuts to think this, and there are probably dozens of threads arguing both for an against this very thought... But, based on the very first thing you said in your post.... who is the one character who happens to be in just the right place at just the right time? A person the Odium feels the strong urge to destroy (and admittedly, I may be reading what isn't there in this case)? Who was friends with the 16 at the Shattering, but wouldn't take up a shard even though (if I recall correctly) he could have had he wanted? More importantly, the person doing all of those things is traveling from system to system, collecting what he needs in order to use the different magic systems seen in the cosmere. There are several reasons why a person would want to collect all the different magics available... most leaning toward a desire for power/control/rule. But, Hoid IS powerful. And it seems like even those he rubs the wrong way tend to respect him deeply... Maybe I'm loony. But I think it would be pretty dang cool if Hoid was Adonalsium... and the cosmere story is showing us how he 'allowed' himself to be shattered, just to see if he could reconsilodate his power.
  7. Ive been suuuuuper busy since I posted this, anf just checked back in. Something almost opened up that day... it got NASTY here.
  8. The better half took this today in our yard... I kind of *head explode emoji* when I saw it. Zoom in a bit, the detail is out of this world.
  9. Maybe Im just focused too hard on the missing part of the coin, because it was mentioned but he doesnt search for it...
  10. I thought I read a WoB he was... but admittedly I dont spend nearly enough time here, and have no friends who are cosmere fans. Went back and reread the epilogue and I misread (twice [sigh]) about where his memory was stored... I still stick by my theory though- as half of his trick coin is missing... its not mentioned what it is made from, but it could be a coppermind. Speaking of copperminds, I found this on The Coppermind on Hoid's page... "However, he does have access to some unkeyed metalminds".
  11. I was kind of concerned initially and with my reread of that final scene. But reading through the discussion here, I had an epiphany. Hoid is a Lightweaving Feruchamist... and Odium is blind to him. Could he have "invented" memories, stored them in the coin along with some breaths, for the very slight of hand he rambles about in his monologue? What better way to trick Odium than by allowing him to steal fake intelligence?
  12. I like the idea of a Szeth/Vasher duel, specifically for the fact that Nightblood is aware... would Nightblood remember his "father" and refuse to act? (I seem to remember specific quotes of the sword telling people of the man who created him, but I could be making that up)
  13. My thoughts on the Windrunner 5th, granted from a Kaladin POV: And I hit the spoiler button eleventy times, for no reason...
  14. So... I havent been following the forum much... I dont know if its been mentioned... Kaladin's little brother, Oroden, will be Odium's champion. (In my humble opinion of course)
