I'm definitely in the minority opinion lol but I miss the old FSY pamphlet. I'm weird in that I like to be told exactly what is and isn't okay, it just makes me more comfortable I guess. I'll need to get used to the new one and pray to be okay with some of the changes.
But yeah the talks so far have been great. I just got my endowment on Friday so I'm like extra noticing all the references to temple covenants haha
i’ve been catching up on the more recent arcanum entries, and can i say that it’s really exciting that Brandon has slipped from saying “if i get a movie” to “when i get a movie”
exciting times my friends
exciting times indeed
i went to both a concert and a rave tonight
the events were entirely unrelated and both entirely spontaneous
my hearing is destroyed
context for how they were both spontaneous:
”hey there’s a concert going on in like 30 minutes over at [place], wanna see if there are any tickets left?”
there were in fact tickets left.
then, driving home from concert: “wow look, there’s some sort of rig set up in the park. oh it’s a DJ. Looks like some sort of rave.” cut to me jumping out of friends car at a stoplight and joining rave.
pretty good mosh pit, 7.5/10
couldn’t find a wasp
my plans for tomorrow:
1. Go to my programming class
2. Do my calculus homework
3. go outside, grab a wasp from midair, eat it.
4. go get groceries
tonight is gon be lit
one thousand people have read something that I wrote and appreciated it in some way. That’s pretty dang cool.Spoiler
i think it’s a little cooler in that it’s number of people vs number of instances. like I have 2700 rep, but i’d be willing to bet it’s only from around 300 different people. With the vast majority of it coming from 50-70 specific people. whereas this is 1000 different people liking the same specific thing that I wrote.
not that i don’t appreciate the rep
rep does get a bonus in that I know and respect people here, and those are all from utter strangers. so it’s more meaningful in that way.
0 other sharders talked like a pirate on Talk Like a Pirate Day
how rusting dare you
this is the single most important holiday and i'm the only person that observed it
Avast ye dirty Sharders!
‘tis the most glorious day o’ the 19th of September!
belay ye lubberness n cast off ye long clothes, for ’tis time see that ye embrace the most peculiar lingo o’ the pirate, else i’ll be forced to see that ye dance the hempen jig like the bilge rat ye are.
hackertyper.net is my new favorite website
we’be all seen the memes, but in your opinion, what is the true “duality of man”?
you know the drill, spoiler your answers and don’t check other’s before replying.Spoiler
I’d say it’s:
The horror of being known, vs the desire to be understood.
also put as:
The deep existential fear of existing in another person’s perspective (which, once formed, is utterly outside your control and influence), vs the psychological and physiological need to be loved.
i was baited into making this, and if this horrendous thing has to exist now, i might as well get some internet clout for it.
ive never made a more shameless SUSpoiler
that’s not true lol
doing complicated math on a big old chalkboard with a nice soft piece of chalk is maybe the best thing.
i want to be a pirate.
pirates of the caribbean is a criminally underrated movie
and it’s very well rated already
can i switch my major from computer engineering to piracy
out of the 6 people in my new appartment
at least 3 of us have read Stormlight
this is so hype
pepper jack is the best kind of cheese
i am a slut for pepper jack
its so good ahgahgahgahgahgahgahgahgahgahahgahgahgahgahgahgahgahgghaahgaghgahgah
the queen dying is the funniest thing that's happened since the 2019 PSAT
i hate twitter
if you'll allow me to get ever so slightly political...
there's this massive sentiment online that simply having Right-leaning ideologies makes you a bad person
and i just hate it
i hate it so much
it's so binary too
like, if you tend to vote republican, you must be an alt right, nazi-loving, racist
and me, with my majority centrist opinions, feels very sad that people hate me so much
like, i agree with both the left and the right about equaly,
i just disagree with the right less than i disagree with the left. that's about it.
i've seen people attacked purely because they're a republican
i'm like "ok...well, did they say anything controversial? did they offend or hurt anyone? anything illegal or actually morally wrong?" and people are saying "no, but their leaked documents show that they voted for trump!!! EVIL!!!!"
it's gotten to the point where calling someone a republican is an insult in and of itself. The insults "trump-voter" and "nazi" carry equal weight.
it makes me genuinely, deeply sad that social media has caused us to become so divided
Like, i don't hate democrats. obviously. i don't hate anyone. i'm not out here trying to take away your rights or hurt you in any way. I just want lower taxes bro ;-;
i feel like if you are an adult on this planet, you should've been able to figure out by now how to disagree with someone and still respect them as a person.
that is all

I get it lol. Me and two of my friends were having debates over the us election a year back. It sucked. Honestly, I'm finding myself comfortable in neutral. Why can't we just agree on something. We should just try and make the world a better place, not seek to elevate ourselves into some presidential position or say our political party is the best.
Anyhow, I hate politics.
I love politics, cuz I like knowing what’s going on and I also like arguing, but so many aspects just make me so mad, or so sad, or so indignant. I very occasionally cry over the state of the country. It’s really upsetting how divided we are, and how unwilling to look at the other perspective. It’s also ridiculous the lengths people will go to just for a little power! I really, really wish we could get over this, but it takes everyone, and some people just… won’t.
episode 2 of Rings of Power is also banger
i'm loving each of these plotlines
one thing that I think this show is doing really well is taking very very classic tropes and twisting them
for example, we have the classic "yearning" type plotline
your classic "farmboy" type, right
"what if there's more beyond our little slice of civilazation" etc etc etc
so naturally the next step is a Call to Action
and lemme tell you, having a meteor crash, only to find a naked man inside, is one HECK of a call
it's not even really twisting the format exactly
it's just doing it in a very original way
and i love it
also i have no idea who that guy is
i feel like they're setting it up for a reveal
so we must know who he is already
i'm probably just not well versed enough in tolkien lore to figure it out
my first guess was tom bombadil, simply because he's fitting the "very weird old man" vibes
but iirc, tom was all about nature n stuff, so that whole "killing fireflies" thing wouldn't be his vibe really
also i think i remember him being like
some sort of higher eternal being
like he has always existed and always will
so the suddenly appearing from a meteor and not remembering anything doesn't seem to fit either
my next guess would be...some sort of wizard?
falling from the sky in a meteor does seem like the way a wizard would be born
i know that there's supposed to only be 5 wizards or something
and they're like maiar or whatever
maybe this is showing one of them being created by the tolkien god or smthn
he's just credited as "the stranger" so that doesn't help much
i feel like this is definitely something that could be figured out rn
i just don't have the knowledge of tolkien lore to do it
aaaaaaaaanyway this was supposed to be a review, not theorizing and speculation
i thought it was great
i am enjoying all 4 of the plotlines at about equal levels at the moment. they each have enough mystery or action that i don't really prefer one over another.
i am loving the lost at sea bit though
i love sea monsters
like, look at all the crazy megafauna tolkien has on land. dragons, ents, trolls, etc etc
imagine what crazy things would be in the ocean depths.
imagine if it was analagous to our own world, where we have pretty normal looking surface creatures and absolute nightmare fuel down in the depths.
Tolkien already has crazy nightmare fuel on the surface.
i want to know what's down there.
that plotline is another good example of them taking classic tropes and being very original with it. Galadriel is building a party. And the first member was met, not in a tavern, but by accidentally stumbling into each other in the middle of the ocean
very original, and very enjoyable
college food pro tips that i am absolutely authorized to give, I've been doing this whole college thing for aaaaaaages (like 6 weeks)
1. get rid of the notion of breakfast foods and dinner foods. this is much easier said than done. it's rather instinctual. like, don't just be ok with "breakfast for dinner", you need to completely remove the concepts of "breakfast" and "dinner" from your mind. This allows you to do the obvious, eat things like cereal and eggs for dinner, but it also lets you combine. eat cereal and chicken at noon. have eggos and soup at 10 am. This is an important notion to grasp, it'll save you money and time.
steal from your roommatesTry asking your roommates for things. if you only need 2tbsp of flour for something, don't go buy a whole bag, just stealborrow some!
3. get used to feeling like cooking is a waste of time. you'll spend like 20-30 minutes making some sort of food, and eat the entire meal in under a minute. it's important that you understand that this is necessary though, because cooking your own meals is healthier and cheaper, even if it's harder and feels like a massive waste of time. learning to meal prep can help, but in a college fridge there might not be room for you to save many leftovers. just get used to allotting more time than you feel is necessary towards making food.
4. if it can be done manually, do it. don't buy a bag of shredded cheese, buy a cheese grater. saves a lot of money at the expense of a little time.
5. limit indulgences. i've been following a rule where every friday i let myself buy an energy drink and a single sweet thing that's under 5$. (usually a pack of chips ahoy cookies ) but only on friday. helps you save money and eat healthier. i haven't had any sort of fast food yet. don't plan to.

All one thousand dollars of it, huh?
So it's worth a magnificent total of 1006$
any recipes you'd care to share?
This Joshua Weissman Mac and Cheese recipe is amazing and surprisingly easy. There's 3 in that video, I made the first one and it was great, even though I had to do a bunch of weird substitutions. I scooped spreadable butter out of the container because I didn't have any sticks of butter, I only used one type of cheese, I used skim milk instead of whole milk, and I just completely skipped the Crème fraîche. And it was still really good.
New LOTR show is pretty great
at least episode one is
before i started watching, i specifically thought “at the first thing that annoys you, pause it and take note of the time stamp, so you know how much of it was good before it starts to go downhill”
and i never paused it
it was thoroughly enjoyable the entire way through. excited to see where this goes.
