  1. I don't think that a physical description of Odium has been given yet, The general aesthetics are hard to place as there is influence from different cultures Alethkar seems to be more influenced by Chinese and Ottoman culture, the technology level isn't really medieval they do have fairly advanced technology in some areas it just relies on things unique to their world like stormlight
  2. Granted. a disease makes mulberry trees extinct (silkworms only eat mulberry leaves) I call upon the Nightwatcher to fulfil my boon. I wish for perfect timekeeping - I instantly know the time anywhere in the world and know exactly how much time has passed down to seconds
  3. I don't think shardplate is a spren, after all dead shardblades effect surgebinders but a similar effect with shardplate is never mentioned, but even if shardplate was a spren I remember it being said that people couldn't bond shardblades until a gemstone was added to the hilt, there could be something similar with shardplate that just hasn't been discovered yet
  4. thanks, that's really helpful I'll check out that thread
  5. hello, it's been great to discover this site as I'm a massive fan of Brandon Sanderson, I have a few head scratchers regarding the stormlight archive and was not sure where to post them so here goes. Firstly, from what I can gather when the Shin make someone truthless they exile them but also give them an honour blade, exile as a punishment seems understandable but giving also giving someone a shard blade seems incredibly irresponsible. They're unleashing a deadly weapon on the world, someone who will almost inevitably become an assassin. The devastating effects of this can be seen in Szeth who kills several world leaders leading to possibly millions of people being killed and displaced, whilst I understand that being forced to kill but be responsible anyway is part of the punishment that doesn't justify the number of deaths the only reason I can think that the Shin would allow this system is if they just didn't care about anyone who isn't Shin. secondly, I've been wondering about year lengths on Roshar in Arcanum Unbounded Khriss writes that the years are longer and a 1000 day two year storm cycle is mentioned suggesting that the days are 500 days each I've just been wondering whether earth years or Roshar years are being used, Roshar years would make sense (and Khriss also writes that stories from Roshar use Roshar years) but that would make all the characters older (Kaladin would be 27) this isn't much of an issue in fact it makes some things (like the young age of army recruitment or marrage) seem more acceptable but I just want some clarification. If somebody could point me to an answer I'd be grateful
