  1. Changes coming new coming changes 1202021
  2. “Roshar has something that so many other peoples in the cosmere want: free, portable, easy-to-access power.” Roshar=Arrakis The Stormlight must flow.
  3. I think we are going to get a twist that involves Navani and we won’t like her after. I don’t trust her. Never have. Prologue sets us up to sympathize with her and then...bam. Something bad. That’s all I have for you.
  4. Remember that WoT cover art (one of the newer covers) that had Elayne, Aviendha, and Nynaeve doing the Bowl of the Winds thing? I’m imagining something similar with Shallan, Veil, and Radient depicted making illusions or whatever the occasion calls for. Maybe V&R appear a bit more ghostlike. Yeah. Cool.
  5. I have slightly different problem. Myself, my two sisters, and my dad have all read Stormlight and various other Sanderson books. When we get into that violet wine during family dinner, we get crazy with the talks and references and it annoys my mom because she feels left out. I tried to get her to listen to Way of Kings via audiobook, but she only made it through ten chapters.
  6. No, my moral compass says no she shouldn’t have done that. As a reader, however, I love it because it illustrates Jasnah’s cold logic and gives you a glimpse of just how damaged she is. I can’t wait to read her book in the back 5.
  7. This topic has been fascinating. Can we talk about what would happen if Nightblood cut a shard? Like, Odium, perhaps...
  8. Mom of toddlers here , so I’ve already lost count of how many times I’ve seen Frozen II. Every single time I hear the “do the next right thing” song it reminds me of Dalinar’s answer to “what is the most important step a man can take?”
  9. Zahel! Please please please Major cosmere character, but pretty minor at this point in Stormlight.
  10. I could be wrong, but I always assumed that Shallan did something similar with Pattern when she was a child. Specifically, when she locked away the memory of killing her mother, she was denying a truth. My interpretation was that it sort of unraveled their bond and it made Pattern disappear for a time. Am I wrong? I’m curious to know how others interpreted that.
  11. The epilogue of Oathbringer! Wit makes a doll and awakens it to coax a little girl out because she refuses to leave her mother that was crushed under a building. He leads the girl to the woman that rocks the empty cradle and tells her to look after the girl. It’s so horrifying and hopeful at the same time. I’m feeling all sorts of emotions just from writing this.
  12. That TOR will not release part one prior to Nov. 17, 2020. That slow build up and the discussion on the Shard got me through each week that lead up to the Oathbringer release.
  13. I agree with the above statements and want to say (reiterate) that the Dalinar and Shallan parts were very hard to read for me (for various reasons), but they are so important for the character development that happens in the series. Oathbringer is worth reading because you get new viewpoints, very interesting reveals, Cosmere easter eggs that are really fun, new places that are explored, and the most epic Sanderstorm that has occurred in the series. WoR is my favorite, but this book took me on a roller coaster ride of emotions and it made me fall even more in love with the series because of the complexity of it all. Take a break if you need to, but definitely come back. Don’t abandon this journey!!
  14. Ah! Best news ever! My mind is racing!! What if someone gets ahold of Nightblood and figures out a way to copy him and manufacture shardblades?!
  15. I think that this could be accomplished easier through multiple POVs. You could have a single event that is experienced by multiple characters and you can present their POV of the situation in no particular order. They each have some role to play in the big climax and resolution (which the reader will know after the first POV), but you can explore how each person is affected throughout the sequence. Throw in some swords and magic, and I'd totally read that book!
  16. I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere (some update from Brandon) that the flashbacks are from BOTH Eshonai AND Venli. This was very recent, but I cannot remember where I saw it. I'll try to find it.
  17. There are a lot of quotes that I love...too many to list. One random one came to mind that is by no means my favorite, but worthy of note: the snippet from Jasnah's essay in WoR: “What is a woman's place in this modern world? Jasnah Kholin's words read. I rebel against this question, though so many of my peers ask it. The inherent bias in the inquiry seems invisible to so many of them. They consider themselves progressive because they are willing to challenge many of the assumptions of the past. They ignore the greater assumption--that a 'place' for women must be defined and set forth to begin with. Half of the population must somehow be reduced to the role arrived at by a single conversation. No matter how broad that role is, it will be--by-nature--a reduction from the infinite variety that is womanhood. I say that there is no role for women--there is, instead, a role for each woman, and she must make it for herself. For some, it will be the role of scholar; for others, it will be the role of wife. For others, it will be both. For yet others, it will be neither. Do not mistake me in assuming I value one woman's role above another. My point is not to stratify our society--we have done that far to well already--my point is to diversify our discourse. A woman's strength should not be in her role, whatever she chooses it to be, but in the power to choose that role. It is amazing to me that I even have to make this point, as I see it as the very foundation of our conversation.” ― Brandon Sanderson, Words of Radiance I just remember reading it for the first time and being like "Amen, sister..."
  18. I also just want to add that I think it is a sign of good writing that even the detestable characters are still exciting to read. Love me some Sanderson. And lay off Adolin. He's adorable. And simple. And should not have gotten the gir----I digress.
  19. Just wanted to pop in and say that I voted "other" (Ialai is my least fave.) I looked at the above list and felt so many feelings. There are a few characters that are detestable (Amaram, Moash, and Sadeus come to mind...but I don't hate them because they are still very interesting to read. Honestly, Shallan is probably my least favorite on the list to read right now and it's because I'm having a hard time with her mental struggles. I just don't like the way she handled things in the last book, but also see why she did the things she did. I certainly don't hate her, but I really just don't love reading her POV's like I did in WoR. Just my two cents.
  20. I think the fact that the character is an unmotivated college student is the perfect formula for a trip to Greece. Isn't that what millennials do? Take a year off to tour Europe to find yourself or some other BS excuse to dodge responsibilities. (Note: I apologize for generalizing millennials. I am one....and I've never been to Greece...or Europe for that matter )
  21. No ships, just wanted to say that I honestly just hope Kaladin gets laid. Forgive me for being crass, but I don't care who it is that he bangs.
  22. Oh! I also want to tell you guys that my 66 year old Dad loves Brandon Sanderson. He retired last year and had a lot of free time on his hands, so my sisters and I dumped a bunch of Sanderson books on him and he finished them all in a matter of months.
  23. I turned 34 today! I discovered Brandon because of WoT. When I began reading The Gathering Storm, I instantly loved his writing style. No hate on Robert Jordan because he is a master storyteller, but I prefer Brandon's portion of the series. After I finished, I had one of those sad periods where you don't really know what to do with your life after finishing such an epic series, so I decided to look into this Sanderson guy and began reading The Way of Kings. That was back in 2011. Wow! Time flies!
