  1. Just finished reading, and that was such an awesome book, when is the next one out? Characters: I loved a lot of the characters, Elhokar, the Radiant Spren (Syl, Pattern, Timbre), Adolin, Kaladin, rest of Bridge 4, Dalinar and like so many more. And Hoid. Characters I Hated: Moash, Amaram, Mr T, Venli. And somewhere in the middle is Shallan. Plotlines: I absolutely loved Dalinar’s story arc, it was totally awesome and emotionally super well done. I also really liked Kaladin’s not teaching the fourth Oath, because I think it will help pace out his story, and I liked how it forced other characters into the spotlight. For the Shalladin/Shadolin story, I wasn’t a huge fan. I feel like there was a lot of buildup, and not a ton of payoff - HOWEVER, I do like that it didn’t dominate the book, and it also helped progress both Kaladin and Adolin (but actually not really Shallan though). And just in general, I really liked how the book came together, I think it definitely met the standard the other books set, and may have even raised it (if nothing else, then in the page count department, because who doesn’t want 200 more pages of Stormlight?)
  2. I really, REALLY liked the chapters, and I'm so glad we got some resolution on the status of the parents. And the Roshone face punch was just like SO GOOD!! The only thing I'm worried about is if Kaladin is going to fall down the 'hating lighteyes, won't summon Shardblade' rabbit-hole. That being said, Sanderson is a much better author than this, and I doubt he would digress Kaladin's character to stretch his story out. I also doubt Syl will get too hung up about this, she'll probably give Kaladin an eyebrow raise or something and then all will be fine.
  3. Vasher because we wouldn't want any of Denth's Royal Locks getting it our pizza Who would be a better bridgeman, Miles or Vin?
  4. Well, it's been a while since I've read the original Mistborn trilogy, but from what I remember, there was a physical stab/slash would on Elend, which leads me to believe that he was hurt in the PR. This kind of makes sense to me because I remember reading that the Mist was the "body" of Preservation, which is synonymous with the Mists being his physical form. And to jump back to what @The One Who Connects said, Elend and Vin could see the mists, meaning that Preservation was manifesting physically even while Leras was interacting with Kelsier in the Spiritual? Realm.
  5. @Toaster Retribution Good point, I didn't think of it that way @Krios I love the idea, and if also fits with the vision being of Honor's worst case scenario, and this theory bypasses the argument about Tanavast not being able to know the people of the distant future. I assume that Dalinar's recognition of the eyes was just the Thrill in your scenario, right? My best guess would be that either Jezrien or Ishar is he champion. I say these two because in the prologue to The Wy of Kings there is some imagery for Jezrien that could be considered foreshadow, And for Ishar, he is the patron of the Bondsmiths, and they are supposed to be the ones who unite instead of divide and bring men together, and who better to corrupt than their leader? Also, some of Ishar's plans and ideas have been kind of morally grey.
  6. I really, REALLY want to vote for the Composite Surgebinder because I love the idea of a Surgebinder with all ten Surges, but the way the scenario was set up means that the Fullborn/Mistborn would win. The scenario demands that the Mistborn/Feruchemist would have unlimited metals, which means that they would be able to use duralumin and Nicrosil full time without exhausting their supplies. So all in all I have to agree with @Calderis This really isn't a fair fight - the Fullborn can increase their weight, and then do a duralumin powered steel push. This would definitely puncture the Shardplate, and it the shot went through the spine or brain, there would be no healing from that with Stormlight, and because so far as I know the Radiant must be conscious to use the Surge of progression. Also the Fullborn could use Feruchemy to increase their weight and musclemass then do an allomantic duralumin pewter punch and just destroy the Radiant. Decreasing friction (abrasion) would not be able to stop the force of this blow. Also, the Radiant has no defense against duralumin/Nicrosil powered emotional allomancy, which would just turn them into a vegetable. Adding in Feruchemical Zinc and Steel, the Fullborn could move faster than sight and process information much faster than their opponent for the entirety of the fight. And who knows, maybe the Fullborn could use a bunch of Chromium and get a super lucky strike in between the pieces of Plate. The Fullborn has so many powers, and with compounding, it's really not fair to the Surgebinder. The Radiant could lash the Fullborn upwards, but they could just decrease their weight to nothing until the Stormlight runs out, or compound healing and luck with duralumin and survive the fall back down. And I hear the argument that the Radiant could just soulcast the Fullborn into smoke, but as far as I'm aware - the plausibility of the transformation matters a lot. The same way the stick didn't change for Shallan, the Fullborn identifies to strongly as a them self. There is also the Surge of Division (Dustbringers) which may be able to put the Fullborn down for the count, but I think the healing should be sufficient. Probably the best case for the Radiant is the Shardblade/Shardplate/Healing argument, but in the end the Radiant would still fall to the sheer OPness of the unlimited metal and metalminds of the Fullborn. I mean, Shardplate is fallible to weapons, objects and even fists (I'm going off the Kaladin/Adolin duel scene for this). Once a section of plate cracks, it only takes one shot from the Fullborn to take out the Radiant. The Shardblade could work, but I doubt it. I say this because Surgebinders can heal from Blade severed limbs, and now when you consider how compounded healing is so much stronger than Stormlight healing, and maybe even Progression healing, I'd be willing to bet that the Fullborn could survive from a Shardblade through the spine. Now maybe if there was an Inquisitor who had spikes for all the surges... that could work, but I digress. What it comes down to is that there was a reason why Brandon made it so there can be no naturally occurring Mistborn and Feruchemists - they are simply too powerful. When a fighter can keep healing compounding gold and Atium until their oppontent dies of old age, you know that they are too OP to be put into a 1 v 1.
  7. No worries @Calderis, it was just good for thought. But I will say, the fact that there are three Shards on Roshar doesn't necessarily mean that light isn't Cultivation. That being said, however, I agree with you about the nature of the Shard of Odium and how he wouldn't work with another Shard. Now my thoughts on past Dalinar are somewhat divergent from everyone else's. I think that yes, Dalinar may have been brutal in battle, but off the battlefield he wasn't so bad. Dalinar wasn't the one who was executing the leaders and putting their heads on spears, Dalinar wasn't the one branding slaves and raping the women - that was Sadeas and Gavilar. Dalinar's role was primarily as a general, not a politician. Also, when evaluating the morality of Dalinar's actions, you need to consider the time. Modern ethics do not apply to him. The Alethi are a warlike people, and Dalinar was just the best at it. Now don't get me wrong, Dalinar was a brutal warlord, but I think we are judging him too much along modern lines, and not accounting for his peoples' culture, which puts emphasis on violence and killing.
  8. Hey everyone! Long time lurker here, second time poster, so I read the first three Oathbringer chapters and I knew I HAD to post my thoughts. So I've read through the discussion and I have a pretty firm opinion on Odium's Champion with the eyes and stuff, so here goes: The familiarity Dalinar sees in the eyes is almost certainly The Thrill - and the reason it is so familiar is because he used to be practically addicted to it. Tanavast himself says that he can't tell how the distant future will play out, and we can assume that these visions were recorded hundreds, if not, thousands of years ago (after the Recreance at least). Therefor, it is unreasonable to assume that Honor could have known the exact person who would become the champion. And now for my tinfoil hat crazy theory on the golden light: For the most part, the people that have posted here have agreed on two separate things - one, that the golden light's description is very similar to that of the light in Dalinar's vision/dream at the end of WoR, and two, that the dream light was likely of cultivation. These two givens lead me to my theory - what if the golden light is the power/representation of the shard cultivation corrupted and bent to Odium's will? We know this vision is of Honor's fears, basically meaning this is the worst possible outcome, and what could be worse than the Rosharians having to deal with the combined might of two different Shards? There's a WoB out there somewhere that says there is Shard that is currently opposing Odium, and people have taken that to mean Cultivation is trying to push Rayse back. Now this assumption may not even be correct in the first place, but if it is true then maybe through some trickery Odium either convinced Cultivation to help him, killed the holder of cultivation and put someone there to help him in the short term, or he took up the power of cultivation himself (be it through merging the powers, or taking them seperately). TLDR Honor's worst case is scenario is that Odium is getting helped out by some currupted version of Shard Cultivation. *taking off the hat* That's my theory, give me thoughts/feedback, tell me if I'm being presumptuous or jumping to any conclusions, or if I'm just being dumb and missing something obvious. EDIT: Fixing Typos
  9. Ross from Friends - he was super whiny and annoying and really got on my nerves. AMARAM!! (Caps because I can't say his name without shouting and wanting to hit something.) I hope he gets stepped on by a Thunderclast and gets his Shards taken by the Lopen. Eragon - I liked him less and less as the books went on. And he was chasing Arya legit the ENTIRE series and he got shot down at least once per book! It got to the point where I was only reading because the dragons were so awesome. From Harry Potter the character I disliked the most was Cho Chang - she played like no part in the story, and when most characters develop and progress, she actually managed to do the opposite! She should just be excised from the series. And to jump back to the celebrities part, I have to go along with @Draginon, the Kardashians are just the worst. I mean like, why are they even famous? I don't get it! Do any of them have any special skills or talents? Even less than that, can anyone produce a quote of one of the Kardashians actually saying something intelligent? Hope you guys liked my rant, feel free to pick apart any of my arguments.
