  1. I didn't say that is what happened in the story--just that I had some bizarre recollections about it. I just re-read it and have no idea where my weird memories came from. Must really have been dreams.
  2. Would people worshipping Kelsier add to his power as a cognitive shadow? Like the more people perceive an object as a particular thing, the stronger it's soul/spren are in the cognitive realm? like would it give him more investiture or something? Does this same concept increase the power of the shards as well?

  4. I'm nearly done with part 3 of skyward (none of the novellas yet) and only just found out DE was related. I remember reading it way back when and thinking it was pretty good but bizarre that the "Phone Company" is the main space power from Earth. I also finished it right before falling asleep and my dreams must have taken flight from there because my memory of the story was shockingly different from the summary I just read about it. I do remember wondering what elysium really was and how he was protecting it. I'll have to read it again as I remembered there being less characters--maybe only 2 and the hero having to sacrifice himself and his ship to stop the bad guy (angel or AI or something) from discovering the secrets of elysium... maybe I'm remembering a combination of 2 different and separate stories... I also think the delvers are AIs gone crazy and that Mbot will be the cure.
  5. is Sadeas a Willshaper? Is he the uncut gem? Right after it talks about the Willshapers as uncut gems and how other orders dislike them: "And now, if there was an uncut gem among the Radiants, it was the Willshapers; for though enterprising, they were erratic, and Invia wrote of them, "capricious, frustrating, unreliable," as taking it for granted that others would agree; this may have been an intolerant view, as often Invia expressed, for this order was said to be most varied, inconsistent in temperament save for a general love of adventure, novelty, or oddity. —From Words of Radiance, chapter 7, page 1" It's followed by a scene where Sadeas asks Adolin if he likes his new coat with "uncut gems". Sadeas seeks constant adventure/novelty/oddity. He is unlikeable and unreliable. Other people have said that that chapter is mostly about Adolin and maybe that is describing him. I also found info about the Willshapers from the Coppermind website: "The Ideals of the Order of Willshapers all focus on individual freedom and liberty; the Willshapers champion self-expression and freedom of choice for all." So maybe not a good fit for Sadeas? What do you think?
  6. I also see a parallel to the current condition on Roshar. Honor is dead, yet all the people continue as if he was alive and commit atrocities in his name, etc. When Dalinar comes along like Derethil explaining how "God/Honor is dead..." what is everyone to think/do?
  7. I much preferred Eragon over HP films (as movies). I actually don't understand the negative reception of the Eragon film overall. It had a lot in it that I had been wishing to see in Fantasy movies and is almost the only one to deliver (well)--excepting LOTR and Hobbit. I agree that they messed up the adaptation in important ways including characters, plot, and some details (like the races), but those things could have been added/changed without fundamentally changing the film as it stands. If you look at the movie separate from the book series, it's actually not so bad. It had its share of lame moments--almost every movie does, but I feel this was within industry average tolerances. And I think the HP movies wouldn't be all that great as standalone movies without the books to back them up. They're not awful, and the adaptation was great, but I just didn't love watching them and probably won't see them again, whereas I've rewatched Eragon several times despite its flaws. So if you're talking about how well they adapted the book to film, I totally agree with the concern, but for the most part, Eragon was not a bad movie as movies go. Now the Shannara series adaptation was just all-around dismal--the adaptation, acting, visualization, everything. I agree with the Game of Thrones type approach to Stormlight. Stormlight definitely has a lot of visuals I'd love to see on screen if done well: the world-building, the shard blades, Shattered Plains battles, etc. Mistborn would totally have been the better 1st option. The Wax and Wayne would be awesome too but have a lot of spoilers to be firsts. Also, I think that the Sixth of Dusk story and Shadows for Silence would be great on screen, although they'd need some expanding and Legion would be a great mini-series.
  8. In Bands of Mourning, Sazed shows Wax a red force that he's keeping at bay and admits he doesn't know what it is. Perhaps that is related to Rust or Trell...
  9. I actually think the world building might be easier to show visually as you just show it and don't have to describe/explain it. I would keep some of the Dalinar stuff, though. His visions, etc. and the politics between the houses.
  10. Where is the letter mentioned here so I can go back and read it again?
  11. A couple of interesting links about his books' word-counts: http://loopingworld.com/2009/03/06/wordcount/ https://www.reddit.com/r/Fantasy/comments/3kwxga/a_chart_of_the_cumulative_word_count_of_brandon/ https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1bLYPHdhopXVh81lTy1KZHfKZX2voue3bukb90u2_Kyw/pubhtml
