  1. Thanks Oversleep, Good news is it's a semi-solid theory. Bad news is I'm a year too late. Oh well...
  2. Possibly, but then what is the distinction between hallowed and unhallowed stones? In your idea the Thunderclast can only animate hallowed stones? (not trying to be offensive, just fleshing this out). Edit: Also where did you get that Shin belief info? is the WoB?
  3. Ahhh, didn't state that well. I know Jasnah is in the back 5 My thought is that Jasnah will espouse some or all her conclusions in book 4 with a few revelations held back for book 5. My guess is that they'll relate to the nature of certain surgebinding
  4. Not sure if this should be here or in Cosmere since it was Nazh who salvaged them. Jasnah instructed Shallan to take notes on her spren. "It will likely be your first writing of significance". So then, by that logic, Jasnah took meticulous notes and observations of her spren, Ivory. Maybe that can be a WoB qustion - Did Nazh save Jasnahs writings in a way they can be read by her ward? I suspect this is currently intended to be the Jasnah flashbacks in her book (# IV or V). I'm betting BS will work the answer in another way though. Probably through Jasnah explanations, though there may be a Roshar equivalent of Secret Histories. So my question is: where do you think the notes will surface?
  5. This theory is that the phrase 'stones unhallowed' has more to do with the worldbuilding in Roshar than thought. There are many lines, moments and opinions in Stormlight that suggest there is a deep (time lost) ideology directing the Shin to not walk on Stones unhallowed. I can go through the book if necessary, though I'm sure the members here are familiar with them anyway. My theory here is that the stones that are 'hallowed' are a way for Odium to connect to individuals on Roshar, in much the same way that Ruin used spikes to impersonate/talk-to various mistborn ppls and used the non-metal prophesies to manipulate the world. This theory is that the Shin live on stones 'unhallowed' (and that this is an actual ancient truth), but Szeth as truthless was given a 'hallowed' stone and commanded to obey the holder. I believe this is a similar corruption (as Ruin) by Odium. This is what allows Odium into his head aka the screams in the darkness. we have a WoB that the screams are real (to him at least). Since he died, Szeth hasn't heard the screams (please check me on this, but make sure he wasn't on stone at the time). He believes it's because he died, but maybe it's because he gave up the stone. A lot of this is hidden in the history of Roshar and I believe Brandon will unveil it in coming pieces and tie it into the desolations in the same way as Mistborn. If you've read 'Mistborn the secret history; you'll have a good idea of what I'm thinking. I'll add one last thing here. The Shin have the honourblades. If kept anywhere, shouldn't the cosmic design arrange them to be held where Ati can't see them? (yes I know what I did there). The Stormfather fades in the Shin land, stones are unhallowed and they have the honourblades? Coincidence? Or design? (My theory is design from when the Heralds were sane).
  6. Interesting idea Spool. As an aside, where did you find the math that it would require 500 billion cubic metres of air to get energy to generate water on an object? I point you to the last beer I had. Took it out of its case and it had moisture condensing on it. In terms of Roshar, Please look at the chapter where Adolin witnesses soulcasting (air into stone). The air rushes in. because soulcasting can change the density of a thing. That require energy, like any reaction. This energy comes from the stone used, but my theory is that it also comes from the surounding environment, i.e. the gem allows connection to the cognitive realm, while the energy for physical transformation exists in the physical realm. I like your spoiler theory, but I'd like to counter with one of my own. I'll link as soon as typed up. Basically based on the Shin idea of Stones Unhallowed.
  7. I always thought it was a bit simpler. Shardblades form a solid 6ft blade from nothing. Creating a solid from a reaction like that (in our world) requires energy. Basically the summoning of a blade sucks energy from the area immediately around it. In Roshar (a storm laden and perpetually wet world where we can assume a high level of humidity) the act of summoning a blade acts a lot like an AgN reaction. Precipitation is a byproduct. When the air cools, the moisture in the air coalesces (in simpleish terms). It also sounds good on page. This sort of action/reaction is also witnessed on the chapter where Adolin observes the ardents soulcasting. A whoosh of air inwards. Brandon has a propensity for looking towards the laws of Physics and using them like silly string (when convenient)
  8. Mmm (said the Pattern). Hello Mr Dweling in a Breath Bath. Nice to meet ya
  9. Should I post theories individually or bombard? I'm on my umpteenth reread (of Stormlight) and theories and questions for B keep popping into my head. I know that sounds frivolous but I'm happy to back up with references.
  10. Hi everyone, I've been around for a while. Lurked on a bunch of sites (Here, Reddit etc) and finally decided to say hello. I am loving this series. Got hooked via (WoT to introduce Brendon), Stormlight then Mistborn (Also Warbreaker). I have been through WoB a few times and now feel like I have a handle on things (mostly relating to Roshar). I have a couple theories/questions that I don't believe have been brought up and I'd like to discuss with people who have actually thought about this Basically, I wanted to introduce myself (am Australian) and find the best way to ask multiple queries. Should I post them individually? Or in a group? They're a bit erratic/all over the place, but hopefully interesting to you'all. Pretty much all my posts will be re: Stormlight, but I can discuss Mistborn, AU and warbreaker; and some Elantris.
