  1. I don't understand why you are arguing that about the left-handedness in combat. Sorry, but that's really stupid. It's common logic and knowledge, ask any soldier you know. You train in both hands, in case the main one gets damaged. Many soldiers become ambidextrous in the process. You telling me Adolin, or Kaladin, or whoever, hasn't trained with his left hand? At least you will have to switch the weapon from hand to hand. I can even remember adolin doing that a few times in his viewpoints. As Pathfinder said, someone would have noticed that Renarin is doing better with his left-hand. Also, you don't have to be a great warrior in order to be a great military general.... gosh.... Also, if you think you know so much about Renarin(without viewpoints and barely any reference to his day to day life), if he's not studying to impress his father and brother, what would he be doing? For all we know, he could be either studying from cooking shells under Rock to studying politics and warfare.
  2. I think you might be onto something here, man! From Kal's viewpoint is it explicitly said that he did hear only screaming, he did not hear any speech, as it would have been written down similar to Syl's speech and Kaladin would have understood it. So it's only screaming for him. Relis on the other hand... he ran off the arena screaming something in the lines of "What? I did not kill anyone(you?)" /I can't give the exact quote at the moment/. Remember that the Blade, in other words the spren, is bonded to his soul. Bonding is something on Roshar is a pretty huge deal. Pretty much half the books are emphasizing on bonding. That means Relis may heard the spren speaking to him even after dropping the Blade, at least that's the implication. The next day after his defeat, Relis is sent back alone to Alethkar in carriage. It is said that it is presumably to hide the shame of the family, but what if there's a darker reason in this. What if Relis continued hearing the spren and everyone, including Ruthar, thought he might be going mad, sending him back to Alethkar to remediate? What if Relis is the first person to walk the path of reviving and bonding a dead spren? Honestly, everyone, I would love Relis to do that. He is not a bad character and he seems smart and honorable. (Adolin was just stupid agreeing to duel 1 vs 4 and alethi take every advantage that comes to them.)
  3. Judging by the the Surges of Illumination and Progression and what we know at the moment about the extent of these abilities, I think this is the only order that doesn't have great raw fighting advantage in a battle. Brandon has WoB that one surge in two different orders works almost the same and that there is something little extra. That said, I don't think his Progression will work way more different than Lift's and I bet the difference of his Illumination would be that he doesn't have to draw/Memory anything, but use some other way of his. And about that little extra, I bet again that it's his 'seeing'. Renarin will be a leader, he has been foreshadowed as one in my own opinion. Maybe king? He did insist going to the lower class(Bridge Four) to study, something Nohadon did in a way, to dress as a beggar and walk through the people to educate himself about all social classes. /that last part was such a stretch, probably should ignore it at the moment/ I don't know, for all that could happen, he can become a traveling monk that preaches 'Let the sticks be sticks.' But I don't think he'll be a great warrior.
  4. I also think that Jezrien is the drunk man, fits the description quite nicely. About Ishar, I'll reread that when I get home, perked my interest there.
  5. But Taln's description is definitely not Jezrien's in Kalak's interlude 4500 years ago. A few years ago, this forum was convinced that the beggar with white and black beard(during the night on Gavilar's death), who was drooling is Jezrien. What happened to this theory, it is proven wrong by WoB?
  6. Szeth in Jah Keved. That was some high-level Surgebinding against practiced Shardbearers and some soldiers. Actually, I think this is the scene that hints how destructive one Surgebinder can be without a Shardblade. On second place it's pretty much all of TWoK and WoR... I just reread them for second time and I can't pick out a single scene to be my favourite, since everything is so good in its own way.
  7. A valid point, since humans can carry a disease/virus without being affected by it or even knowing about its existence. Plus, it would be such a nice funny twist on top of the Hoid mystery -> one of the most powerful beings in Cosmere bows down before a common cold!! I'd love that! A very nice theory that I like, good job OP.
  8. As far as I remember this is only speculation. Where did you get the information that Kalak is Nale's companion? A simple visual description does not make him Kalak.
  9. Yes, here's the quote: Q: So, why is it that there are only dead swords? A: That’s a good question that will be answered in the future.
  10. Well, it could be basically anything at the moment, since we don't know that much about Shardplates. You present a valid point that made me think, I forgot about the helm that disappeared on demand. We're missing some little trick, hopefully we will find out in Oathbringer...
  11. Sanderson pretty much confirmed my theory from 4-5 years ago with this hint that he gave regarding worldhopping: "Raoden has misinterpreted one of the Aons." That would be Aon Tia and it gives a way to worldhop directly from one point in the Physical Realm to another. Of course, that requires some sick level of mathematics (we know the boy that counted numbers in Elantris was kinda cool). Anyway, I know many of you still don't believe this one, but I am quite convinced in this. Another point in favor for this one is, in JordanCon Q&A. Sanderson said that when he is ready he might give us a star map indicating the position of all the Shardworlds. And everything of this sort in the books is written by the likes of Khriss and Nazh, which means that one of these knowledge seekers will be drawing it imo.
  12. I still prefer crem and Stormlight instead of spren and Stormlight. It's far more plausible, but both are possible of course. Also, Shardplate acts like living thing, twisting and setting around your physical build like plant. And all the flora in Roshar lives by using the minerals from crem (another Shallan reference). So, yeah... I'd rather go with crem until we find out.
  13. Doesn't it strike you strange that it the term used is grow. To grow the Shardplate by fusing it with Stormlight. To regrow a damaged Shardplate. Who else grows plate on them? Listeners. Where do Listeners grow their armor? In the highstorm. My theory for some time is that the Shardplate should be growed when a Radiant enter a Highstorm and probably use the crem from the rainwater and the Stormlight to grow the armor on him. It is probably not that easy, but I believe this is the general way of things. Crem is referenced consistently during the books as something that sticks everywhere you don't want it, also has a lot of minerals and stuff (Shallan reference) and is kind of hard in a way. The reason Kaladin/Shallan still don't have a plate could be that they are quite new to this and don't know the extent of Stormlight.
  14. Disregard that statement, I must have confused myself.
  15. It is still blurry how Shallan exactly lost his powers. Possibly by blocking the Truth from her mind, refusing to acknowledge what happened, hiding in her sketches and drawings. In her flashbacks and normal viewpoints we can see that if she thinks about something traumatic, something that is very big to her, she forced herself to think about something else. That is murdering her own father and mother, and Pattern called these things powerful Truths. I should add that instead that the system is based on the Knight's actions. It is based on their emotional state. Each time Kaladin because furious with revenge against Amaram and Elhokar, he changed inside and that's how he lost his bond anyway. Syl warned him, it's not about his actions, but more about what is changing inside of him. Shallan too, changed inside of her, forcing herself not to think about anything related to the 'blinding light in the strongbox' and etc. In the end, I believe it is about changing yourself, your emotional state, against what is important to the order or something in the lines. It's hard for me to describe it, since English is not my native language.
  16. I don't think we have much information about the black sphere right now. There were only three references as far as I can remember: 1. When Gavilar gave it to Szeth 2. [edit: i misunderstood something, disregard point 2] 3. Szeth hiding it somewhere in Jah Keved. I think we need more books in order for us to do any decent theories. So far, it could be related to anything in the Cosmere.
  17. JordanCon Q&A Session: Seems like there is more to just 'the default state'.
  18. Most notably in the fight against King Hanavanar and his Shardbearers. Szeth was such a beast in that fight.
  19. It doesn't have to have been happened before. There's always a first time. Also, if you look in the direction where saving Roshar(freeing Odium) at the end of SA5, would mean leaving other Shardworlds to be invaded by Odium. Then it could be said that the prophecy does not originate from Roshar, as 'one of them might save us'(might let Odium reign chained on Greater Roshar) and 'one of them will destroy us'(break Odium's chains). 'Us' meaning the other Shardword/s. It's a stretch, but Brandon's prophecies are a stretch by themselves.(check Mistborn)
  20. The Way of Kings Cover Words of Radiance Cover I am going to throw this here and say that these prophecies are not from Roshar, but instead are Terris Prophecies. Pure speculations, but it works in favor for some theories here.
  21. Here, I agree that statement and I will add that by the end of WoR, Eshonai fell into the chasms, separated from the rest of the Listeners. I always thought that to be a way (plot-wise) for her start redeeming herself. Also, remember who escaped into the chasms earlier? Her most loyal soldiers (Thude, Bila, etc...) and if someone knows how to survive the Shattered Plains, that's Listeners. Regarding Lopen... on the contrary, I will say that he is Dependable and Resourceful, which means Stonewards. Here are some examples that point out very clearly that Lopen has both of these attributes: + as pointed in this thread already, when Kaladin asked him to bring water, he brings Dabbid and Hobber, a litter, and a lot of waterskins + He started bringing new members to the Bridge Four, mostly cousins + He always has some cousin who can make/build/sell/provide something that is required + He is always ready to do what Kaladin asks him and more. - we were never hinted that he is the explorer type - he was never capricious, frustrating, unreliable. Instead he was always reliable and no one in the books felt frustrated of him. (The only person that frustrates people to the edge is Elhokar). And you cant' deny that he never has changes in his mood. Or simply, he is another square, but I think Brandon likes diversity and he would like to show us more of the world, more different characters.
  22. Good job, everyone for the interpretation. I will add a few things below, my own interpretations, nothing special. ~~ This leads me to believe that some/most/all of the death rattles are from proto-radiants. I can't find the reference at the moment, but not every person that dies speak a rattle.(I think) Jasnah/Shallan/Kaladin at some point in their life were able to access very mildly Shadesmar, just to take a peek the the Sun or the reverse shadow. ~~ This is probably yet to come reference to what I fear will become at the end of the First 5 books. A statement by a turncloak Herald. Victory! We stand atop the mount!(possibly Urithiru or antoher Epoch Kingdom Capital). Their homes become our dens, their lands are now our farms!(obviously they took over the lands) And they shall burn, as we once did, in a place that is hollow and forlorn. (Who burned in Braize/Damnation? The Heralds between the desolations.) I think a Herald(or more) forsake the humans as a revenge(or madness), leading the Voidbringers to conquer some of Roshar, with the last statement saying that humans will now burn, as they(Herals) burnt for centuries. ~~ Possible referece and possible evidence that Nalan/Darkness is right for killing Surgebinders as they bring back the Desolations, thus letting other people draw breath(live more). ~~ It's a Shin and he talks abouth truths. This rattle always reminded me of Szeth. We know shin has access to the Regrowth and that death rattles happen several seconds before death. My current theory is that Szeth was almost dead, saw the rattles (but due to Shin being strange overall, somehow he did not speak them like the sailor. He refused.) and he was revived with Regrowth. Subsequently, for some reason he decided to speak of Truth and they made him Truthless instead.
  23. Hello Everyone, I think I cracked the code of the Fabrial Endsheet Table(Now I'm certain it's the Fabrial Table)! It is possible that someone else already did it, for which I apologize and hope that I might bring some more insight on his theory. Of course, we need more canon fabrials, which we can examine with their proper gemstone types, but this is for now. EDIT: Resources for viewing in the spoiler tag. Rule Number 1: When you look at the table, imagine that the glyphs of the Orders are actually the glyphs of the 10 Gemstones. Each Gemstone is corresponding to that Order's Gemestone from the Ars Arcanum Table. From now on, when I say Amethyst, you look at Willshapers in the Table. When I say Ruby, you look at Dustbringers in the table. And so on. There are no Orders here, only Gemstones. Rule Nubmer 2: Amethyst and Ruby are opposite, and that is further indicated by the lightning bolt. In other words, this way we can actually check in the table, which Fabrials are Pairing Fabrials: Conjoiners are sensitive fabrials. They are created by splitting one gemstone - specifically, a ruby - which will in turn act as a whole, with the actions of one half affecting the other half. The most common example of this type of fabrial is the spanreed by which means communication can be affected over a vast distance. Reversers act in the opposite way to conjoiners and are created by the splitting of an amethyst instead of a ruby. The reaction of each half is the exact opposite of what one half undergoes; to lift up one half would cause the other half to be forced downwards. As you can see, both Gemstones have exactly the opposite effects. Altering Fabrials: Augmenters are fabrials which enhance something. They can be used to increase heat or movement, to warm a room or generate a breeze. The Half-Shard shields invented in Jah Keved are an example of an augmenting fabrial. Diminishers are fabrials which work opposite of Augmenters. They are used to reduce something, such as pain or heat. The device used by Navani to reduce the pain in the wrist of her nephew, Adolin, is an example of this type of fabrial. Again, we have Fabrials that work the opposite, but this time, as you can see, nowhere is mentioned that the Gemstones are split in two halves like in the Pairing Fabrials. Unfortunately, it is not mentioned in the books what type of Gemstones are used for the Painrial, Half-Shards and etc. If I remember correctly, the heating fabrial is with Ruby, but please correct me, as I can't open the book at the moment. That leads us to the next Rule. Rule Number 3: There seem to be two very important rules in creating a Fabrials: 1. Discover how to cut the Gemstone. 2. Discover the type of Gemstone for the desired effect. Rule Number 4: Some Gemstones have more pairs/opposites from other Gemstones, as you can see in the table. Sapphire -> Smokestone, Diamond, Garnet, Heliodor. Smokestone -> Sapphire, Zircon, Ruby Ruby -> Smokestone, Amethyst, Diamond Diamond -> Sapphire, Ruby, Topaz, Emerald Emerald -> Heliodor, Diamond, Garnet Garnet -> Emerald, Sapphire, Topaz, Zircon Zircon -> Garnet, Smokestone, Amethyst Amethyst -> Zircon, Ruby, Topaz Topaz -> Amethyst, Garnet, Diamond, Heliodor Heliodor -> Sapphire, Emerald, Topaz Rule Number 5: I believe, the Ars Arcanum Table is quite important in this, because the water-attracting fabrial is powered by Garnets, which are connected to Blood, all non-oil liquid. Attracting Fabrials: These devices were demonstrated in Words of Radiance. Navani used water-attracting fabrials powered by garnets to keep bowstrings dry during the battle against the Stormform Parshendi. Mraize also owns one of these, powered by a smokestone, to draw smoke through his chimney. Given the way most fabrials seem to be paired by their effects, repulsing fabrials are likely possible as well. By following the Pairs rule, we can get a Gemstone that instead of drawing Smoke and Gas, it would release Gas. Rule Number 6: It proves what Brandon Sanderson is smirking and saying around that one magic system doesn't really mean only 10 types of powers (Like Surgebinding), but more types and variety. Imagine the possibilities. Final note, we know that Sanderson classified the Magic System as 30 types. That leaves us with 10 types of main Fabrials, each with subtypes depending on the type of Gemstone. This is pretty much a rough explanation of the Fabrial Magic System. I leave the imagination to you, as I am a bit wasted by trying to explain all of this at once. Please, ask any questions and critizise. Side Note
  24. I have been thinking along the same lines yesterday. It makes sense to be about fabrials, since the gem in the middle basically screams it. I am currently at work and I can't remember correctly or give any quotes, but take Navani PoV when she was testing the gravity tower as a reference. It makes sense the surges to be half-inverted in this table if you think about it. Navani said that she needed two platforms that are opposite to each other. When you raise one of the platforms the other goes down. It is possible that the spanreed is also working in a similar way. Navani said that gems must also be cut in the right way, otherwise the fabrials wont work. Another thing to mention, a bit of a stretch, in Mistborn there were 8 metals at first and 2 god metals (lerasium and atium). In this table, Bondsmith and Truthwatcher are alone... two Orders, two Shards heavily invested in Roshar (Honor & Cultivation, Odium is not located on Roshar and we know he found a way to splinter himself somehow). So: 8 metals, 2 god metals ?= 8 orders, 2 special orders I have some other thoughts on this, but I need to think about it for a while, maybe do some research.
