  1. It's funny, the same thing happened to me when i tried posing the first time. Typing it again was a chore. Comparing sailor moon to the cosmere is just hilarious, never before would i have put those in the same sentence, but now that i think about it, you have a point. It is hard to imagine sailor moon to have a serious side plot that would have historical backing. Or maybe Brandon got his idea from here....haha probably not.
  2. For everyone who thinks Brandons concept of the cosmere is a great idea for a fantasy series but obviously is not realistic just like other fantasies, prepare to be amazed. Centuries ago, before Brandon was born (although you wouldn't know it from the amount of books Brandon published) there was a guy called Isaac Luria who conceptualized something called Lurianic Kabbalah. To keep this relatively short i will just summarize its contents. Once upon a time there was a all powerful infinite being. Then in order to create the being contracted himself (made in its omnipresence a void) to let something else exist, known as the physical world, and while doing this put all of its powers and personality into a vessel ("cup") to hold it together to relate to the physical. However catastrophe struck when the vessel for unknown reasons shattered into many shards and and dispersed all over the universe where they eventually landed places and got stuck there, drawn in and unable to escape and changing the places with their influence or vise versa. Then the world became chaotic once the vessel shattered. It is up to humans to gather these pieces and bring them together in order to recreate the vessel in order to bring balance to the world before the evil shards destroyed the worlds. There are a lot of comparisons: All powerful being=God beyond Vessel=Adonalsium Shards=Shards There are more but i am sure they are self evident. Also interestingly Luria's concept of a first all powerful being is very different than others have looked at it before, and I think it fits really well into the cosmere. Also Luria did not believe it magic and sorcery which makes this even weirder. There's a lot more to it but i am not confident enough to in my understanding to accurately detail all of it. The link to the sparknotes is http://www.sparknotes.com/philosophy/kabbalah/section9.rhtml.There are three small pages of the concept (so you will need to turn the page twice). Or you can just wiki it. I am not saying that Brandon formed cosmere from Lurianic Kabbalah, or that there is an even earlier source that they both borrowed it from, but rather saying to the public that the cosmere ideology might not be purely fantasy. It makes the cosmere a lot more enjoyable and entertaining now, doesn't it. If anyone has opinions or comments feel free to reply, just please look at the theory on an official website before starting to critique since i no doubt left stuff out and probably made a few mistakes. Does anyone else think they are similar, or is it just me?
  3. The only comics i have read are archie comics. I am not really a comic fan, but of course i will buy it and see if brandon converts me.
  4. Brandon said that matching names usually are not coincidences. Take from that what you will.
  5. Overmastery: According to Kenton it was more like the example of a builder or something that when he strains and pushes himself, yes he tires and feels exhausted, but soon after, once he recovers, his muscles are stronger and more experienced. Or something along those lines. Heres a quote. “Don’t you see, Elorin? It makes sense. The taboos against overmastery, they are all just to keep anyone else from discovering the secret! I’ve heard guards in the Tower explain to me that the only way to build large muscles is to exercise to the point that you’re sore, and when your strength returns you will be able to lift more next time. What if this is the same thing?” Perhaps Kentons theory is wrong, but the end result is the same.
  6. Yeah, but i thought that one: You cant burn other planet metals since they weren't made by preservation. And two: That the metals aren't invested at all, but rather they are a catalyst. Is my knowledge outdated?
  7. What do you mean? Why would he be able to?
  8. I know, thats what i said earlier, that its not about dodging but rather continuously avoiding. Master Elodin, I dont know where i came off as rude, but trust me i had no intention of rudeness. I was stating that Pathfinder made his point and convinced me, which is very hard since i am a very stubborn and proud person by nature. I am sorry for the misunderstanding.
  9. Makes perfect sense to me. Great find. I actually thought among the same lines, but quickly dismissed it since i did not realize that Crystals were part of the canon universe, but now told otherwise, great find. Up point for you Weiry Writer.
  10. Okay... you made your point pathfinder. Although how someone can dodge something far faster than a zinkall/arrow is beyond me. For a being such as in words of radiance to do so is one thing (telenair or however you pronounce it), but for a regular person, it seems impossible. And I don't know if a mistborn would know to burn chromium, but again, I admit that his abilities can easily counter the mages. I need to read white sand again. Just a small closer to my opinion, if the sand is impossible faster than a zinkall, then how fast is it? And would it be conceivable to believe that just anyone could dodge it? However these are questions for Brandon to reveal, not ourselves. But I will give way in this discussion until i can find a better reference to the sand streams properties and abilities. I just see the destructive capabilities far surpassing even an atium mistborns abilities, as we see Lord mastrell, while poisoned, kill hundereds of people in seconds in the ceremony. I just think that this destuctive power could prove troublesome for a mistborn. But think what you will. I will still be around for more pointers though if you want to speak about that.
  11. A sandmaster can last full power for about ten minutes if i remember correctly. Thats more than enough time. I did not say faster than light. My point is that while one can and has dogded coins and arrows, noone has ever dodged a sand attack. I understand ability wise, they are in different classes, but I rest my case with my last Statement. You Can Not Dodge Sand. Either Way, I will be away until tomorrow night. SO have a while to prepare your opinion on the matter before I return. Just imagine this scenario, regular mastrell with enough sand for 15 streams attacks a mistborn. How will the mistborn get away when the sand is faster than him? And keep away for enough time to successfully attack. Remember, I wont respond after this until tomorrow night.
  12. I know. But a coinshot can push a coin shot away, but can only push away a bullet if he is expecting it and prepares to push before the shot. A bullet packs way more punch than coin. But imagine a mistborn dodging it only for the sand to turn a foot away from him towards him, he cant keep dodging. The sand is too flexible and versatile while being as fast as an arrow.I said Vin vs Kenton. But even if regular Mastrell, imagine 25 ribbons telekinetic-ally rushing towards you average speed, try dodging it. Its not about dodging, but avoiding, which is impossible, unless you have atium.
  13. Thats only if they know, and the sand is still too fast! Even if slightly slower than a bullet, thats way faster than an arrow. Either way, a telekinetic arrow would be devastating to a mistborn if it wasnt metal. The only reason they dont die is because they can push them away, which they cant do to sand. In short, when the fight starts, the mistborn wont be able to dogde the arrow or even have time to make a counter attack. Even if they do get one attack off, the sand mage, who blocks arrows could easily block the attack and counter with the fatal unavoidable sand stream. Plus Vin did not have that ability.
  14. Exactly. I said in a prolonged fight a mistborn has the upper hand. But straight out duel style, the Mastrell can eliminate the mistborn before the mistborn has time to use his tricks. And while all of the points pathfinder said were mostly true, the sand is fast enough to kill the mistborn straight off. "Kenton’s little ribbon could cross the length of the Pit ""in the blink of an eye""!!!. It turned and doubled-back on itself neatly. Kenton wove it through the air, slicing through entire groups of ribbons in a single strike." It was quick enough to slice through 25 ribbons in seconds.
  15. yes. Its used to block swords and arrows. Although it was never tested against the darkside guns. Duralumin could be a problem as you mentioned but remember that a mistborn wouldnt use it straight out. They would wait until they had no other options. Since the Mistborn has no reserve after. By that time it would be too late. Yes A mistborn could win, But I really think that if they meet for the first time, the mastrell would win. However, bringing it up, would a coin pushed against the shield push the shield away? I dont know how much the shield would weigh. Although sand does weigh a lot.
