  1. Oh my gosh, yes! That was a fun conversation. It's so great to make connections with people.
  2. Aww, lame. But better to find out here than to repeat the question later and get the same answer. Thanks for sharing!
  3. Frist of the Sun: Fourth of the Dark Vorin: Seanesh (I don't really like how this looks, but I guess it sounds alright) Unkalaki: Kana'namanawa'pokole'okamalamalama (Kana for short, which is Sean in Hawaiian. The rest is a phrase that means "brief moments of brilliant light") Shin: Sean-son-Marcus (biological) or Sean-son-Blair (who adopted me) Sel: Shaon (I thought about just Sean, as Sea is an Aon, but it doesn't really fit me. Seon could work if that wasn't already a thing. Shao is Transformation or Change though, which definitely fits me more. I move a LOT.) Nalthis: Lightreacher Threnody: I just simply be "Fulgid" (This is actually an English word that means the same as my Unkalaki name, "brief moments of brilliant light". It's a pseduo-title I picked years ago that describes how I view myself.) @Firerust Thanks for doing this! I really like the idea, it's a lot of fun.
  4. Yes! I very much approve of this line of thought. Maybe someone could ask "Does Silverlight have a patron Shard?" Indeed! I'm the one on the far left (or stage right, for all my theater friends). How did we meeting? Anything I would remember you by? Oh!! Are you Zach??
  5. This makes me wish I was in Seattle. That sounds way fun!
  6. Was planning on it. I noticed those hadn't yet been transcribed, and wasn't quite sure how it was done. I've gone in and edited questions before but never started the transcription. I'm willing to give it a go though!
  7. What a fun event! I'm still recovering from the lack of sleep all day, but it was worth it! Was super fun to see @JoyBlu again (yay OB release friends!) and everyone else who came out for the wristbands and signing. In case any of you don't know, I'm the one who was carrying around the framed map of Roshar (pictures to follow). As a side note, I suggested to Issac that he do a foil print of Shadesmar as well, which he really liked! Enough to write it down so he wouldn't forget, at least. And I mentioned it a few times to Kara as well. So if that happens in the future, you're welcome! I got to ask a few questions as well, one of which was also from our OB release party group! Very happy I finally got to ask. Here they all are! Me: How many spren would it take to make a shard-trebuchet? Brandon: I'm not sure what a trebuchet is...but only one, if you have the right kind of spren. Me: Would you be willing to share the failed process Hoid used to attempt becoming an Elantrian? Brandon: Nope! RAFO Me: Wit said that failure is the mark of a life well lived. And in turn, the only way to live without failure is to be of no use to anyone. Is there anything that Hoid has failed at that we haven't seen on screen that you would be willing to share? Brandon: There are certain people he thought he was going to be able to help that ended up not surviving. Me: Hoid is not capable of hurting anyone, but in WoK we see him wearing a side sword. Is that simply for show? Brandon: That's just for show. We'll see him do this again in the next book as well. It's symbolic. Me: Wit states "Some men, as they age, grow wiser. I am not one of those, for wisdom and I have always been at cross-purposes, and I have yet to learn the tongue in which she speaks." Is he referring to wisdom as a concept? Brandon: (with a very sly smile) RAFO Me: Knowing both basic and advanced studies of Realmatic Theory are key to understanding how not just magic, but the very nature of the cosmere works. We already have some of the fundamentals, including - Three realms: Physical, Cognitive, and Spiritual - Shard aspects were made with intent, but the form they building blocks of much of the cosmere - Connection to a Shard is necessary to access its Investiture - Identity and Connection work similar to badge access for an individual to a specific building (Brandon said this is a fair assessment) Is there a more advanced concept of Realmatic Theory we don't have yet that you'd be willing to share? Brandon: No. It's too hard to say off the cuff what we know and don't know. So RAFO, but I will put them in the books when I'm ready to develop them. That's all of them. But also, here are pictures!
  8. I may have done a not so terrible thing and ordered one of these beauties. I can't wait!
  9. I just recently discovered you guys, but I love it!! I can't get enough. If I have any ideas I'll send them your way. Also, Nale is definitely "Nail" in pronunciation. And I've always said Elend with an elongated El at the beginning (so it's more El-end, rather than E-lend). Keep up the good work!
  10. That's a pretty good theory! I like the idea that she can make the friction so high that she can use it to climb, and can definitely see the benefit for other Edgedancers to have that ability. However, we know that Lift is more in the Cognitive Realm than other people, and can more directly interact with her Spren. Wyndle even states that she's able to physically interact with him, and he's confused by it. The friction idea probably helps, no doubt! But we know that she is able to physically grab hold of Wyndle as well.
  11. For a living Shardblade, I would imagine that it would be pretty devastating. When Wyndle and Nale's Honorblade clash in Edgedancer his comment indicates perceived pain. Which means a shattering or breaking of a living Shardblade would be very painful to the Spren, possibly killing them like a broken oath would. That would likely take a LOT of Investiture though, as Spren are Splinters of a full Shard. For dead Sharblades, it's probably going to be similar, but on a smaller scale. There's not nearly as much cognitive presence, so the perceived pain would be less and the damage would probably be pretty minimal. And with Honorblades not being made from Spren, the outcome for those would definitely be different.
  12. Just throwing my two cents in here. I hadn't thought about the fact that #1 and #2 might actually be from the SAME person. It would very much be Brandon's style to do something like that. However, given the differences in the writing style between the two I am less inclined to support the belief. Also, noting the confident and almost cocky nature of #1 that was previously mentioned, and the fact that we have a WoB that states we've seen the world of this author, I'm willing to bet that it's mostly likely Endowment. The author of #2 mentions what I feel is a key phrase to their identity: "As the waves of the sea must continue to surge, so must our will continue resolute. Alone." This practically SCREAMS Autonomy to me. On top of that, there is the aforementioned admiration of Rayse and "his initiative", and we know that Bavadin is not opposed to siding with Odium. The author here seems pretty clear to me. As for the ocean reference, it's been stated already that water and land have opposite manifestations in the Cognitive realm. Half of Taldain is already water. But more importantly, if Autonomy resides on the star and not the planet, then what is primarily witnessed is Day Side where it would be almost all water in the Cognitive realm. What I want to know is what's going on with the last bit of the second response, particularly this part: "you should not return to Obrodai. We have claimed that world, and a new avatar of our being is beginning to manifest there. She is young yet, and - as a precaution - she has been instilled with an intense and overpowering dislike of you." Is this a new Shard bearer? And if so, then what Shard did they pick up?? If it's not Autonomy, that's the only likely explanation I can think of. If it's NOT a Shard bearer, then that just further justifies the idea that the author is Autonomy. The "new avatar" could be yet another manifestation of Bavadin, stationed on Obrodai.
  13. I figured Densities was Sel because the Investiture there resides in the Cognitive realm rather than the Spiritual, making things more dense than they would be normally. But dense pockets of magic works too.
  14. Oh, duh, now I look like a moron lol. I guess I didn't think about that very thoroughly. She wouldn't need a continual influx of Investiture, but that's because it doesn't deplete from her like it does from Vasher. If she has enough Breaths she could be effectively immortal, without the need to replenish it.
  15. I don't think you're alone, we didn't really see anything of Vivenna in the Stormlight books. She definitely started travelling with Vasher, but it's true that could have been hundreds of years before. She was always really good at controlling her locks though, so I don't think she would have changed the color unless she REALLY needed to, and we might have just missed her. I suppose it's possible she's still around, as she got over her aversion to using Breaths. Not sure she could survive indefinitely on Stormlight like Zahel does, though, without having a Divine Breath.
  16. They clearly had a falling out though. Pretty sure Vasher got fed up with Nightblood eating all his Breaths. Kind of hard to stay immortal with him hanging around.
  17. Definitely begs the question, though, of whether or not larger groups of people were active around the Cosmere in the past. Evidence of ancient cities on multiple planets, people on Threnody moving in mass exodus, and hints that Worldsingers and Worldbringers (from Roshar and Scadrial) are connected. I would not be surprised if there's something to this idea, such as people from Yolen leaving around the time of the Shattering (possible BECAUSE of the Shattering), and seeking out other people and places where the Shards settled. And maybe travelling between worlds to see each other and share in things, like building cities and founding organizations.
  18. I'm glad someone mentioned this, because it's exactly what I'm thinking. Highstorms pass and infuse gems with Stormlight. Sun shines on the sand and infuses it with...sunlight? Not sure what. But more and more things like this are fitting into a theory I'm working on that has to do with Investiture and Connection. On the current topic though, it's definitely not the inhabitants of a planet that determine what the realm looks like. It has to be a result of something larger than the collected individuals, otherwise it would manifest differently for each person. Or you'd probably see parts of it appear differently than other parts, depending on the ratio of what people believe. The only thing I can think of that would determine it would be the forces who created the physical location, their Intent and desire. Which might also be part of why Sel is difficult to get to via the Cognitive. There's no one there to keep holding it together. There's no Cognitive presence working to maintain that realm. And only people like Hoid, who are quite adept at traversing the cosmere and doing the impossible, are able to find their way through.
  19. That's exactly what I have thought. I'm not allowed to theorize about Dragonsteel related material, but it seems to me that many forms of magic could possibly have existed and still exist, but manifest in slightly different ways now. Lightweaving is the only one we have evidence and confirmation of, but why not others? That would actually make a bit of sense. Allomancy is of Preservation, Hemalurgy is supposed to be of Ruin, and Feruchemy is a middle ground between the two, being an end neutral art. It would make sense that you could combine concentrations of the two to make that possible.
  20. Lerasium wouldn't have given him Feruchemy anyway, just Allomancy. But I agree with you, I think he had it a long time ago.
  21. If I'm not mistaken, I believe from both Threnody and Scadrial you can see a bright patch of starts in the sky, which is supposed to be the same star belt. Not that that really means a whole lot I guess, as stars can be seen from near incomprehensible distances away. But given that it's not mentioned on Sel I would assume it's not near the other two.
  22. That's definitely something I'd never thought of. I always just interpreted that as the worlds Hoid travels to being modeled after the pattern of Yolen, by the Shards who hold the power that Adonalsium once had. I hadn't thought about it being possible for Adonalsium to have traveled to those worlds personally. That will require some thought.
  23. Do you have a quote or WoB about Adonalsium paying special attention to Roshar? Not that I distrust you or anything, I would just love to read that. It's something I haven't heard before.
  24. That's a great question, I'll add it to my list. That being the case, I'd like to know if there are any other pre-shattering magic systems that are still being used, and if so how is it that they are powered?
