  1. Ok I know I'm necroing here, but I have a question about this--why is it "especially obvious" to certain readers? (I've read all of Brandon's published cosmere works, but it didn't jump out at me... but I'm not particularly good at this sort of thing.)
  2. Where do you get 12 as the starting #, and how do we know more didn't regenerate over time? (How did the beads get there in the first place? Do we know it was a method that wouldn't create more beads over time?) I.e., how do we know that, in the time since the Lord Ruler used 10, that some new ones didn't show up? (And how do we know about 12 at the start?)
  3. If I want to find that again, how do I do it from the main interview DB page?
  4. I love the interview DB... is there a way for me to sign up for notifications when new stuff gets added? And, is there a way to browse it by date added? I can't seem to find a way, but maybe I'm missing something . (I.e., not just term search, but list entries by date?)
  5. There was one bead left... do you mean he snatched all but the last? I guess I should have read the alternate ending... I think I saw someone reference it somewhere and indicate that it hinted (or maybe showed?) that Hoid smashed those pottery discs. Which would imply that he perhaps snatched up some lerasium... So maybe it wasn't that a bead was left over (as the characters, including ascended Sazed, speculate), but that it regenerates over time (I forget whether we see more of it in AoL, and haven't gotten to SoS yet) similar to atium? Hmm...
  6. Ok, so in this thread: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/3098-physicalspiritual-aspects-of-preservationruin/ There is some interesting discussion. This explanation by Nameless One sounds reasonable to me: But, my question is this: what actually happened to the power contained in the Atium when Elend & co burned it? We know it wasn't destroyed (conservation of power law, I don't have a reference, but have read that Brandon confirmed it). We know it doesn't go away from Ruin permanently--otherwise people burning Atium over the course of 1000 years would have weakened Ruin over time. So where does it go? Does burning it disperse the power, but not put it immediately back into the spiritual realm as part of Ruin? (It will eventually leak back through at the Pits, but if it went back to the spiritual realm immediately as part of Ruin, then he would have won, right? He'd have his edge back...) So maybe it disperses the power somewhere in the spiritual realm, and then that power is slowly re-collected as part of Ruin, and then would again slowly leak out via the Pits? (Talking about what happens normally, over the course of the millenium of the final empire.)
  7. In the first result here: http://www.theoryland.com/intvsresults.php?kwt=%27hoid%27, Brandon says: So--"There are clues in the novels, however." Can anyone point me to any posts exploring what those clues were, and theories about what Hoid was up to? (I'm just wrapping up my Final Empire re-read in preparation for AoL reread + SoS (first time), and am very curious as I couldn't figure it out on my own :-/)
  8. Wait, so when I read that Yolin is where humanity originated, and also that humanity existed on other planets pre-shattering, I interpreted that as: - Humanity first started on Yolin - All humans on other worlds pre-shattering came from Yolin somehow. (Is that false? Did relatively identical humans also somehow spring up on other worlds pre-shattering? My mental model was that they somehow migrated to other planets pre-shattering.) - Humans created by various shards post-shattering were modeled after Yolin humans.
  9. So humans on Scadrial were created by Ruin + Preservation, and Preservation got to put a little extra in them in accordance with "the deal". (At least, according to epigraphs in Hero of Ages.) But we know that there were humans around pre-shattering, as Hoid used to be human and Hoid was around when Adonalsium was shattered. So does this mean Ruin & Preservation just happened to create humans that are pretty much identical to the existing humans in the cosmere? Or are all humans somehow created by them across all the worlds? (That doesn't make sense to me, as it implies these shards were distinct entities pre-shattering.) Are there any good theories or write-ups about this? (BTW I haven't read Self yet, doing a reread and am 2/3rds of the way through HoA, got to thinking about this.) EDIT: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/13733-about-humans-on-scadrial/ Sounds like the theory (or fact, I didn't research heavily) is that pre-shattering humans were on Adonalsium's world, and post-shattering the shards or whatnot all ended up creating life on their own shardworlds, and used the life from Yolen as a template (thus the similarities). Though in that case, what about Nalthis... didn't Endowment only arrive on Nalthis recently? How did humans get there? EDIT 2: After more digging (#19 here: http://www.theoryland.com/intvmain.php?i=977),it appears that humanity had some way to travel to other worlds. (Yolen was the original world that humanity sprang from, but also humanity existed on some other worlds pre-shattering.)
  10. In this annotation explaining about electrum, there is an editor's note indicating that careful readers may note that Brandon is holding something back. Anyone care to enlighten me or provide a hint? (I'm on a re-read before diving into shadows of self, and I can't figure out what the editor's note refers to...)
  11. Ah well, I can understand that. I'll enjoy the annotations that are out and maybe ask him if he plans to finish them when I see him during his current tour. And though I'm new to the forum, I'm not new to Sanderson--been reading him since he was first published, have read all his published work except Alcatraz & that short story about 2 people dining somewhere... I'll get to those someday too. I'd rather have more books than more annotations .
  12. I know this thread is super old, but has there been any further word on WoK annotations?
