  1. I'm not sure how you can argue he's not recourseful, Adolin is the most battle recourseful character we've seen to date. He's described as the best duelisthing in recent history. Doesn't stand when everyone else has fallen? He charges Szeth repetadly, even after his father has "died", even disarmed and proven inferior Adolin will not give in. When abandoned by Sadius Adolin I'd prepared to die with his men. Adolin doesn't run away and "remember" those fallen, he stands up and fights. Lift didn't save someone she "hardly knew" she went back to save an ally she went in with and that died because of her. If you way to compare the two that's a key difference, yes Lift comes back but Adolin doesn't run in the first place. When considering the words it's important to remember that the words themselves aren't important but the intent behind them. Radancy is a process, one that repairs broken individuals.
  2. I believe Syl was bonded to one of the original Radiants but escaped the recreance. She has "helped men kill before", and if Kaladin dies she will "go back to being stupid again". In critical reading, the use of "again" is significant. Without "again" the passage retains the meaning that death would cause Syl to go stupid, so the addition implies that this has happened before, likely multiple times. Unlike other spren, Syl has never (I believe) metioned the cognative realm. As Syl regains her memory it becomes clear that she's hiding, or withholding, information from Kaladin. Syl displays the ability to change form to a greater degree than other spren. Syl is currently the only Honorspren, having defied the Stormfather. As of WoR other spren had been described as deciding within their Orders, Honorspren seem to be directly ruled. Growth(?) Spren seem to follow the nightwatcher, but it is not as direct a relationship. If Syl was bonded to a Radiant that died before the recreance she would be among the oldest "living" highspren. With what we know of society in the cognative realm Honorspren and Cryptics are among the highest orders. Syl describes herself as "a piece of a god" and "spirit of nobility". So, we now have indication that Honorspren may be unique among Spren(splinters of Honor), and Syl is likely unique among honorspren. Honorspren are additionally directly linked to Tanavast and Jezrien furthering their significance. WoB states splintering is not permanent. While it's still early, Kaladin seems to be displaying some ability and traits beyond that of other radiants. My head theory is that having bonded one of the two "active" splinters of Honor he is able to draw more power than those of the past. I think it's also interesting that the only two active splinters have now been bound. "Unite them" is highly ambiguous, could further meaning be to reunite honor? From the start it was stated a champion on must be chosen to challenge Odium. Kaladin is the primary protagonist at this point, and I believe Syl may be noble among the honorspren. Could we be seeing the first steps in a reformed Honor?
  3. Reread WoK, Adolin is repeatedly describes as "too similar" to Dalinar, specifically in chapters referencing Dalinars indomitable will. "Kaladin also does not make his pet project to fix people. The only reason he tried to muster the bridgemen out of their torpor was to turn them into a cohesive unit so they can fight back: he wanted them to help him protect the," This is just incorrect, not much else to say. During Kaladins flashbacks it was repeatedly made mention that Kaladin could not stand to see his patients die, because he cared too much. Saying he doesn't form friendships and love his men is also completely false, specific mention of this exists. Yes, he distances himself because he sees that as the duty of a commander, but to say he doesn't love his men is disingenuous. Kaladins driving desire is to protect, which is why he is a windrunner, but Edgedancers are extremely close in principle. Additionally, it's not fair to compare anyone to Lift as we know next to nothing about her. He know the second ideal of the Edgedancers and a little bit about a 12 year old girl, that's really not enough to draw conclusions from, I mean she's not exactly elegant yet that's a trait akin to the stonewardens stubbornness. The Windrunners don't choose who to protect, they protect everyone. Kaladin has a flawed trait due to his past and that's what his entire growth is about. He's not a full radiant yet so to use his shortcommings as an argument is fallacious. Adidtionally, Adolin's leadership would place him close to the Stonewardens, that the Edgedancers. Adolin has never displayed healing and loveing can only been seen by reading into his actions from a third party. However, Adolin has objectively displayed loyalty, bravery, dependability, and recousefullness. I don't see how displaying one of the attributes for an order is a stronger argument that displaying both of another. Someone who loved their father would have accepted his will and done what they believed best. Adolin stubbornly argued and held his position for months until Dalinars visions were proven beyond a shadow of a doubt. Yet, despite Adolin's stubbornness Dalinar knew he could depend on Adolin to lead had he chosen to abdicate. Adolin may also love, but jumping into battle at the thickest point, vastly outnumbered and prevailing is am almost exact description of the Stonewardens. Recousefullness? Adolin organizes sneak attacks, adapts tactics on the fly, and rapidly varies personal strategy, I don't think he's ever won the same way twice. Admittadly, Sanderson Loooves Red Herrings, so we're probably both wrong.
  4. @maxal @Kaladin Al'Thor I belive you're making a fallacious argument by dismissing the stonewarden possibly through stubbornness. My reasoning is twofold. First, stubbornness isn't a primary attribute of the stonewardens, but a personality trait they commonly share. They are stubborn because of their dependability, they believe in themselves or the ideals they follow and will not break. You're comparing the primary ideal and philosophy of one order to a personality trait of another. Second, Maxl by your own reasoning we understand that Adolin's motives cannot be fully known, we are interpreting what we see from an outside viewpoint. Going into the duel Adolin wasn't attempting to prove his skill versus four opponents but two, so he would have no reason to be stubborn as the situation was different. However, when the odds were evened and Adolin given the opportunity to fight teo opponents he did so. He was both stubborn and dependable here, even weakened Adolin knew he could prevail over two opponents. As Renarins skilled elder brother it would be his duty to try to save him. He would not abandon his brother, and the stonewardens would never abandon their duty, no matter the odds. Yes, he displayed love but orders aren't limited to one trait, they just hold some higher than others. The flexible nature of radiancy is displayed in Kaladin, he seeks to remember those fallen, heal and save. Kaladin would fit the Edgedancers with little problem however, his need to protect supercedes the other traits. Adolin mag be loveing, but love isn't what he holds most important, dependability is.
  5. I don't think you can take Adolin trying to concede a duel as proof against, especially since that quote seems to be describing personality. In the same duel Adolin was able to overcome overwhelming odds. Once he realized they wern't playing around his attitude changed, he cod have fought through to concede but he didnt. In that duel he displayed skill and resourcefulness also, two attributes the Stonewardens were known for.
  6. I think Adoling will become a surgebinder, and I think the murder was necessary to trigger it. As we know "they were all broken" Adoling has to breat before he can be reforged. If not for the murder, I would say he would become a Windrunner. I don't really like the Edgedancer theory right now because he fits other orders better. I think people are making a mistake in not considering how the orders connect. I believe the closer the orders are on the chart the more similar their ideals. We can see this with Lightweavers and Windrunner being directly across from eachother, they are opposed in their core ideal though the means may be similar. Conversly, we see Windrunner and Sky breakers right next to eachother, they both intend to uphold Hobor, but go about it in radically different ways. From this, I think we can look the relationship dynamics in Kaladin, Shallan, and Adolin. I think in order for them to remain allies Adolin Will act as a bridge between the otders. For this reason, I believe he must be an Edgedancer or Stonewarden. Adolin is a God in the battlefield, and he often fights alone. Its possible he could become an Edgedancer, but he doesn't exibhit the same flighty personality one might expect from am edgedancer, neither is he shown to "remember" or be concerned with healing/saveing. Edgedancers do what they want, Adolin does what he must. For those reasons, I think Stonewarden fits better. Adolin is the first in the fight, and often the last one out. He doesn't give in no matter the odds, and even when down he stands back up and fights to the end. He's a leader, a trait shared by the Windrunners; he isn't afraid to deceive and do what must be done, like the lightweavers. Before Dalinar was confirmed as a bondsmith many liked the idea of him being a Stonewarden. The Blackthorn likely would have been, so why not the Blackthorn's heir? Some have argued Adolin is driven by love, but he has displayed resourcefulness and deoendability. He doesn't skirt from responsibility and gets things done. He's quick to adapt on the field, coming up with strategy on the fly and practicing tactics others wouldn't think of. He's a master of the sword and able to flow seamlessly between forms, yet he's not dependant on his blade he uses everything at his disposal to get the job done. I don't think we know enough about the Dustbringers, so I'll just state it as a possibility.
  7. This is mostly tin foil speculation, but I think their at least some evidence. Hoid is not a sliver or a shard, but he does have a deeper understanding of the Spirit Web than others and has existed powers from multiple worlds. Hoid is ancient/Immortal and has amazing powers of regeneration. WoB is that he "heals the soul" and wouldn't be hurt by decapitation via shardblade. We have WoB saying Dragons are on Yolen, Hoids home world. Common Dragon themes include glammor, knowledge, ancient power, long life/Immortality Early names from Hoid include Middius and Amethyst. This could be a reference to dragons greed/ gold hoards. When Dragons don't have long obscure names in fiction they are often names after natural items including gemstones. In Wok we have letters referencing "you old reptile", maybe it's a bit obvious and we don't know that it's addressed to Hoid but I found it interesting all the same. Thoughts?
  8. What was the sphere Gavalar gave Szeth? Was it a Breath infused sphere? If so, what's the significance, was it simply meant as proof of the cosmere to Gavalar?
  9. A few questions I have Q: How does the timeline work for world hoppers? Are they just hanging out for hundreds of years between events or is their a time delay in traveling? Q: We have seen that spren can hold stormlight, would it heal them? Q: Just how smart is Jasnah? Like compared to Taravangian's scale. Q: Is Hoid a Dragon?
