  1. I'd like to introduce my pet project Metalborn.io Metalborn.io is a character generator for Mistborn Era 2. Minor spoilers for abilities and characters revealed up to Bands of Mourning. Just input a name and gender and find out what Metallic Arts your character can use! I've shared it on /r/Mistborn yesterday, and 3700 characters have already been generated If you're unhappy with the default probabilities, there is also a page where you can tweak them! (Characters generated with non-default probabilities cannot be saved.) This is also a fully open source Haskell and Elm project for anyone interested. Please let me know if you find any issue! - Tam

  4. My take is that there is no Shard actually present on First of the Sun in the same sense as Cultivation being present on Roshar. And that "one of the 16 Shards of Adonalsium is represented and involved in First of the Sun" is the same thing as saying "Paalm represents the involvement of one of the non-Harmony Shards" and "Only Harmony is present on Scadrial".
  5. That was so much fun! @Overlord Jebus was the queue from noon till 3, when he was joined by @Aurimus_ and me. We met later with @Megasif, @Yata, SirCodey, @rjl and @Inkayaku. We do have a full recording!! The employee didn't let us leave phones but he let me leave my recorder. I'll upload it when I get home. Brandon saw us first, and last! He was jetlagged when he started and had more energy at the end of the signing. The store employee was bamboozled that we'd record the whole thing and ask so many questions, haha. We were booted from the store at closing time, so we just grabbed some snacks and got back at the back of the line. When we got to the very end Brandon had to sign the store's stock and had enough time to give us a Sharder Q&A. We've met lovely cosmere fans in the store and queue, including--maybe they'll read this and recognize themselves--our good company from the front of the line (hey @kalamitous_emoashions), who asked cool questions including why Odium is referred to as the broken one, which got an interesting answer, an adorable Renarin cosplay, and two ladies whom we think were mother and daughter (I wish my mom was a cosmere fan) and were so eager and fun. Some interesting questions have been asked; this will all come out in the 4-hour recording that I'll upload when I get home, but I'll give this in advance... (Oathbringer spoilers) And finally, the Sharder Q&A's bombshell that made it all worth it: The non-paraphrased transcript might shed more light on this.

  8. Tried to find this WoB and then I realised it was missing. Here you go: https://www.reddit.com/r/Mistborn/comments/3x84c6/are_there_any_black_people_in_scadrial/cy3853l/ edit: While I'm at it, I also found an entry lacking the Brandon Sanderson title before the answer: https://wob.coppermind.net/events/100/#e3622
  9. Going off of Glys's "He doesn't see what is, but of what is to come", my theory is that Truthwatchers have the same kind of visions, but of the present. Hence their name. And also, I think that's Truthwatchers' and Renarin's manifestation of Illumination. I don't think they can lightweave illusions. They have visions instead. This has been my theory for a long time but showing how Bondsmiths have fundamentally different uses of Adhesion and Cohesion reinforces my conviction. Spiritual Illumination? ... The problem with my theory is that none of the other surges we have seen are involuntary...
  10. He glanced to the side, then cocked his head. Was he looking at her-- Oh, no. It was just the book, which she was still sitting on. --- "You've been the hottest topics on the spanreed informant networks! Dalinar Kholin, the Blackthorn, has gone mad! He claims to have killed the Almighty!" --- "But this is . . . like their bathwater," Eth complained. "Chilled," Rock said, "with spices. Is good taste." "Is bathwater," Eth said, imitating Rock's accent. --- Dalinar grunted. "Your name is Lift, right?" "Right." "And your order?" "More food."
  11. I believe it's both a leftover from the Prime story arc and possibly an indication that there is a Fused-like business going on with the Heralds.

  15. Old thread... Am I the only one that Reddington reminds of Hoid?
  16. @King ColeFound the WoB I was looking for. Thanks @Pagerunner for helping me find it!
  17. Here's a relevant WoB! Unfortunately I failed to find the one I am thinking of so take that with a grain of salt but I remember Brandon suggesting he originally hadn't planned for Twinborn but got very lucky thinking of it for Wax & Wayne as it turned out more awesome than what he'd outlined. So it could be part of the explanation. Even if it was I think Brandon's worked out a really solid explanation anyway.

  20. Surprisingly I didn't find outright confirmation but just short of it.
  21. Different kinds of bonds/oaths grant different kinds of powers. Other orders don't need WoK because the kind of bonds/oaths that WoK makes you follow are Bondsmith-material codes. I was not saying that Squires follow the codes. I was saying that they have a bond/loyalty/informal oaths to a Radiant.
  22. It's a very good theory, I actually don't recall seeing anyone associate the in-world Way of Kings with bondsmithdom (though I'm sure that happened). One of the comments also pertinently raises the suspicious book that made that neither gender can both fight and read. I think it has more direct connection with following The Codes or any honor code being a form of bond/oath (than with Connection, although I'm sure it's related), as those seem to be what grants powers on Roshar. We know Seon bonds would grant powers on Roshar, bonding a spren which requires oaths grants powers, bonding a honorblade grants powers*, and it seems similar to how Squires gain power by bonding or loyalty (oaths of sort) with their Radiant, also explaining why Windrunners have a squire bonus. (One of Jezrien's two attributes is Leading, and becoming a Windrunner seems to require a personality that inspires followers.) *As a tangentially related addendum, I don't know how much people have focused on this but it seems reasonable to say that Honorblades can grant so much power without Oaths is because wielding one signs you up to the Oathpact, whatever its implications are.... scary.
  23. I think this is exactly what's happening. It explains why Bavadin blocks entry into Taldain (as Shards may want to influence other planets through worldhopping envoys), and why he involves himself much more offworld than on Taldain, according to Khriss's essays if I recall right. He gets involved, to reduce all Shardic involvement. I like the idea that Odium is a red herring for Autonomy as an end-game or later-game villain.
