  1. I am a science major and I think I can justify this. Feruchemy, as I see it is, influences neural processes and when you fill a metalmind you fill it with energy, ATP, that powers that specific process. In the case of steel where you are storing speed the neural system reroutes a portion of the energy generated for speed, which is simply the rate of contraction of specific muscles, to the metalmind. This does not affect mental speed as mental speed is related to the rate of firing of specific neurons which is also powered by ATP, and in this case that energy is being stored in zinc. Oxygenation is irrelevant as given enough energy you don't even need to breath. Also the body doesn't need oxygen to generate energy, although without it the generation is more inefficient and will not last long. Also it should be noted that 60% of the energy in sugar, that is to say glucose, is lost as heat. Storing or tapping speed could merely cause the rate of efficiency to change and therefore generate less or more energy. Storing speed could also work as simply as affecting the magnitude of air resistance on your body.
  2. When you're taking an exam and notice several palindromic words and wonder if your professor is secretly an ardent in disguise.
  3. We've also only seen about a page with Nightblood in it. I'm just postulating possible correlations between Gavilar's orb and Nightblood.
  4. I just had a thought. We know by WoB that foreign magics and investitures don't always manifest themselves the same on different shardworlds. So perhaps in the absence of Endowment, Nightblood is manifesting itself according to Odium's magic system and uses Odium's magic system.
  5. So I just noticed that there may be a similarity between the orb that Gavilar gives Szeth at the beginning of WoK and Szeth's description of Nightblood at the end of WoR. I saw this and thought that perhaps there was a connection between whatever is in the black orb, and what comes off Nightblood after he has stolen investiture. I've seen it theorized that the black orb is related to Odium's magic, so perhaps whatever comes off Nightblood is related to the nature of Odium's magic system. I'm not too familiar with Warbreaker or Nalthis in general. Thoughts?
  6. This is probably addressed in another thread and if it is feel free to redirect me there, but if the Bondsmiths only bond the Stormfather then who did they bond to before Honor's splintering? This is what I don't get: I have heard it said the Stormfather is Honor's cognitive shadow and Honor's splintering must have occurred after the Recreance since he tells Dalinar, but Pattern told Shallan So therefore the Stormfather must have existed before Honor was splintered since he was not splintered until after the Recreance.
  7. Perhaps Nightblood will become his spren. I believe that there is a WOB that says Nightblood exists as a shardblade on Roshar, and since Vasher is able to live off stormlight we know that forms of investiture on Nalthis and Roshar are at least compatible if not interchangable. This sounds pretty crazy even as I'm writing it, but a Nahel bond between Nightblood and Szeth would certainly be interesting...
  8. Cultivation may be splintered if Odium returns to Roshar, but I don't think it will be a simple matter. After all, why didn't Odium splinter Cultivation before/when/after he splintered Honor. In fact, why did Odium ever leave Roshar in the first place especially after splintering Honor? Assuming the the "Three of Sixteen ruled" epigraph refers to Honor, Cultivation, and Odium ruling over Roshar, then there was likely some sort of balance or agreement between the three. It may have to do with how the shardholders interpret their Intent, but I believe that the relationship between the three is more complex. A fun, little theory I have is that Tanavast and Rayse were brothers squabbling over a love for Cultivation’s shardholder. Out of rage Rayse killed Tanavast who was blind to the possibility of his brother killing him due to Honor’s Intent, much in the same way Dalinar was honor-blind to Sadeas’ betrayal. This would also explain Cultivation’s survival if Rayse cared for her. Regardless, the point is that the relationship between Cultivation and Odium is complex, and her shattering won’t be as simply as Odium showing up and immediately destroying her. Whatever held the balance between the two will have to be destroyed or circumnavigated.
  9. Seeing as Lerasium is "the power of Preservation itself" Hoid could be using the Lerasium to create a link to Preservation and fuel his allomancy on other planets.
