  1. Happy Birthday wickedpissah

  2. From what I remember, it was Sazed definitely taking advantage of Brettin's death. It was uninvolved with the events of AoL, and just happenstance. Brandon never said why, and I think this manipulation of things is why Sazed rushed Soonie Pup into the position.
  3. Harmony's got a long view here. He can see some of the future, knows what's going to happen, and plans for the bad stuff to get fixed before they happen. It's the age-old answer to why God lets bad things happen to good people. MeLaan said it best when she said that bad things had to happen, and Harmony put the pain to where it could be borne. It's not ideal for Wax, obviously, but he can handle it. I think it hurt Harmony to have to do this to someone like Wax, but he knew it had to be done.
  4. That...that's what I said. I gave evidence for it.
  5. I posted this on reddit's /r/mistborn page, but figured I'd post it here since I hadn't seen anyone mention it. It was bothering me who Aradel was descended from. His name didn't show up anywhere in any previous books, but this was stated: It was also stated that he didn't have a drop of noble blood in him. So who was his progenitor? I was playing a game with my wife over the phone on the way home from work yesterday. She hasn't started either of the Era 2 books, so I was trying to hype her up by giving her hints as to people's families' fates in the new era. So she'd name a name from Era 1, and I'd say hints of how they were referenced in Era 2. She says, "Captain Goradel." I stopped, thought about it, and the lightbulb turned on. That's Aradel's ancestor. I did a google search of "Goradel Aradel" and came up with the user page for a 17th Shard poster named Aradel, whose uncle was the real-life inspiration for Goradel. On a separate note, it seems that Aradel's been groomed by Harmony to take his place as the leader of Elendel. We know that Brettin was killed somehow toward the end of AoL, and replaced by TenSoon. We don't know why he was replaced, but I surmise that Harmony was already planning ahead to have Aradel placed as the leader of the new Elendel government. He saw the opportunity for Aradel to replace Brettin, but needed time to have this happen, so he had TenSoon replace Brettin, giving them time to get Aradel in place as his successor. "Brettin" announces his retirement shortly after being replaced by TenSoon, Aradel comes out of retirement, probably prodded by "Brettin" to take over his job, and here we are...noble power has diminished tremendously by the end of Shadows of Self, and a good man, a man whose ancestor died saving the world (literally, without his death, Marsh would never have known to remove Vin's earring), who truly has the best interests of the people at heart, is now in charge of Elendel.
  6. Is there anything refuting Wayne secretly being a full feruchemist...maybe even not knowing it himself? I've always felt like his acting ability could be explained through the feruchemical use of aluminum, which he now has access to copious amounts of. He's got a thing for hats, too, which are somewhat commonly lined with aluminum to prevent being affected by emotional allomancy. I mean, he could put an aluminum bullet casing inside of any hat and fill it with an identity. And it's not just identity that Wayne is so proficient with. At the end of AoL, Wax internally remarks how well Wayne establishes connection with the constables (Duralumin). Wayne's always eating in SoS, potentially storing calories (bendalloy, which he rarely goes without). He falls asleep at the drop of a hat (badumtish), potentially storing wakefulness (Bronze). He "can't smell worth a heap of beans" (SoS, page 45 Kindle Edition), so he might be constantly storing smell, or other senses (tin). And he's constantly talking about his lucky hat, which I think is lined with Chromium. EDIT: He also says he's usually "only suicidal in the morning". This could be because he stores determination (Electrum). I mean, I know it's a stretch, but Wayne does all these weird little things that add up to a potentially bigger picture.
  7. Just curious, were you reading my post on the SA subreddit from a day or so ago? I usually post there because 17th Shard is blocked at work. I definitely think that the shadows going the opposite direction is due to the person's connection with the cognitive realm, so the Aimians probably have some ingrained attunement to Shadesmar that other races don't have. As for Shallan's shadow going the wrong way in Shadesmar, I believe that it was Pattern whose Shadesmar representation's shadow was going the wrong way. I can't recall off the top of my head if Shallan's ever did.
  8. Yeah, me too...I still feel like there's something here though...maybe. Does anyone know what type of projection these maps use?
  9. You're right on your points of course. First, it's really crude, as I did this quick and dirty in PowerPoint while I was at work. The point about the curvature of the planet is, of course, valid as well. Now, there's still a decent amount of degrees of freedom we can work with since the location of the Oathgate in the Shattered Plains is not precise on the map. I'll continue to play with it and see what I can do. I agree the mountains issue is a problem, but figured posting what I had now was better than beating my head against a wall on my own. Yeah, absolutely. Since I'm new here, just do me a favor and link to where you posted it?
  10. I've only been lurking here for a few days, reading the map Easter Egg thread, among a few others, so I apologize if this has been discussed already. I was messing around with the map myself and decided to translate the compass rose on the colored map to a location that had its tines intersect with the location of two known Oathgates. It was the irregular spacing of the tines that caught my eye. Anyway, the intersecting point of these tines on the compass rose, when placed in a way that include both Kholinar and the Shattered Plains, is right in the area that the scholars believe Urithiru is. This location also captures several other fairly important points of interest: Kharbranth, The Purelake, the heart of Shinovar, etc. Granted, there are sixteen lines coming off of the compass rose, but a number of those go southward, and some others don't go through any real points of interest, so some can be ignored. Thoughts? Also, I posted this on the reddit SA sub, so if you've seen it already, yes, I am the same person that posted it there.
