  1. I just barely read The Alloy of Law and only skimmed through this thread about time bubbles. So if what I mention has been discussed elsewhere, I am sorry. Why are these 'time' bubbles being taken at the face value of time? These remind me of how Sazed moved when storing and using speed. What if these bubbles are extreme forms of that? Cognitive and all other bodily functions sped up to the point that it appears like everyone else is standing still? Atium showed the future movement of objects and provided the cognitive capacity to understand what they were seeing. So these bubbles could be providing The Flash type super speed to everyone inside the bubbles while reducing air and water density to help facilitate the increase in movement. If this theory has any merit. Then objects exiting the bubble would have increased air resistance upon leaving and hitting the denser air. This would slow the bullets down and throw them off course. If one side of a bullet hit the denser air first, it would slow down causing the bullet to turn for the deflection. The only way to avoid the deflection would be to shoot on a perfect line that originated from the middle of the sphere so that each side of the bullet exited at the same time. I feel like if it were really time and not just their perception of time. Then either Wax or Wayne would have had to adjust their pocket watch to the correct time. With all the banter between them, it seems like a simple thing that should have been there with Wax blaming Wayne for it being wrong. Wayne is always using 'time' bubbles to change disguises so his watch would frequently be wrong, yet he still checks it. Maybe I am putting way too much thought into that not being in the book helping lead me to my theory. Sorry if this should have been somewhere else. I didn't see another recent thing about time bubbles in my quick search.
  2. If you look at the map of Alethkar that is immediately before the prologue in WoK. You will see dotted lines that show the boundaries of the seperate princedoms. Kholinar is in Kholin. So most likely it is a city-state that was appropriated from Kholin. It rules Alethkar from inside Kholin territory but isn't subject to Khloin law.
  3. If it is indeed spren, then I have to agree that it would be lesser spren. Lets not forget that Shallan attracts swarms of creationspren just like Kaladin does windspren. At one point she comments on seeing more creationspren at one time than ever seeing around anyone before. Anyone else notice how the armor never just shatters and falls off? It always 'explodes' sending shards in all directions. Almost like the spren making up the plate disperse. Maybe a fabrial would do the same thing but I am not sure it would. When Jasnah and Shallan soulcast they bribe the spren to change their identity using stormlight. What if this is similar? KR are able to use stormlight to bind lesser spren into the armor. Then the regrowing of the armor is just paying more stormlight to attract new spren to the plate. When Kaladin was in the arena, "the winds seemed to urge him on". What if he has a small connection the the windspren through Syl because she is cousin to them after all. Maybe she could tell the helm to appear/dissappear or he could give small commands like that himself to windspren.
  4. I am not siding with either side on this yet, but I do have some interesting points to make that haven't been made yet. 1 - Pieces of the armor tend to crack after a hit or two, but no one mentions that happening to shardblades. This makes me think maybe the plate is weaker and is a fabrial and not spren. 2 - Shallan has Renarin try to scratch the keyhole at the Oath Gate with his shardblade from which she deduces that they are the same material. So either it is a fabrial or the spren don't have to be bonded in the same way as the blades to create other things, and the keyhole didn't scream when she touched it. 3 - If the armor is really just a fabrial then why after 100 desolations is it still so rare? They should have been making it for everyone and not just the Knights Radiant all that time. Some help is better than none. Taln was taking about helping them prepare with the making of weapons and armor. He dimisses the idea of steel because it would take longer than crafting them from bronze. By now he should know how to craft shardplate if it is indeed a fabrial. Even if he thought they could only make a few, I think it would have been worth mentioning in his ramblings.
  5. Thanks for pointing out that FFVII is not the same as FFXII. I am surprised there wasn't a longer list of editting mistakes for me to fix. Normally my posts are riddled with mistakes. Edit: See, this short post had several spelling mistakes.
  6. I think this was skipped over too fast in this thread. This discussion hinges on how much real world mechanics you want to apply to this fantasy fighting. Fighting in movies is choreographed and is more dancing than actual fighting with all the flips and everything else. One of the reasons this was never popular in the real world is because it is easy to hinder yourself by having your weapons collide. Just look at how many people have trouble patting their head while rubbing their stomach. Now imagine trying to independantly swing two swords effectively. The amount of training you would need would far surpass the amount needed to master one sword. For this reason when a second weapon was used it was mainly defensive and much smaller like the Rapier/dagger pairing. You can find records that claim some people were proficient with two swords, but who knows how much is lore and how much is truth. The sais are small enough that the risk of them colliding is minimal, especially with the fact that they are piercing weapons and not slashing. So would you rather be like Cloud Strife from FFVII who wields an enormous blade that is around 6ft long? Maybe 2 sais that have shafts around 15in long? More of a sword and dagger combo? Wielding two 6ft swords would just not really be possible. So you are sacrificing reach to dual wield. In a duel this might not matter much if you parry to get in close and use your smaller weapons effectively. On the battle field where the shardsword can cut down four people at once like a scythe through a weat field... the long reach would be more effective. Just some issues to mull over if you want to sollidify a way for them to dual wield.
  7. We can't discredit anything because anything can happen, but I do agree it is a long shot. Rlain will most likely end up being bound as a squire. Which will then open up a whole lot of possibilities of cooperation between the 2 races. Others speculate that Adolin will get the honorblade. It is also possible that they will just try to find a way to lock it up behind a mechanism similar to the Oath Gate. You would need to be a radiant to get to it then. Syl warns Kaladin that it is dangerous. So I don't see him giving it away easily.
  8. While I agree that his killing Sadeas will have consequences in the next book(s) for him. I think this is also very telling... "Now, Shallan might be the most important person in the world, and he was... What was he?" So when he learns that both his father and brother are KR. He just went from golden poster boy to feeling useless. I can only imagine how hard mentally that would be for someone.
  9. The easy answer is that it is a cognitive thing like Shaggai said, but for the sake of discussion more theories are always welcome. I think an important part that we need to explore is how we think the blades themselves cut things. I am new here and have only read a few threads so if this is discussed somewhere else I am sorry. What if stormlight is a form of chi or life energy? All of the plant and animal life always is very active after the highstorm. This could also be why it makes them want to move when they are holding it in. This would mean that everyone has a small amount to some degree, but they don't have the ability to manipulate it. The spren are residents of the cognitive realm but they are able to manifest some in the physical realm. The shardblades are the spren themselves that have been bonded. What if the edge of the blade isn't in the physical realm but only in the cognitive? That could be why the blades only cut inanimate objects. They are spltting the spren/little beads and which makes cuts manifest the way they do. So with a living creature you have to sever the soul or flow of chi before the blade can make other cuts. I currently have no explaination for how I think the honorblades cut. Shardblades are imitiations of them so I am sure there is a difference. Regarding the list point about consuming stormlight - What if the spren acts like a valve for the stormlight? Syl might control the amount of the flow while Kaladin manipulates it. So without the ability or finesse to control the flow Szeth burns through it more quickly. Whereas Syl is able to help Kaladin by giving him access to just what he needs to accomplish what he is trying to do. Just an off the wall idea.... The connection to the wind that Kasimir brings up probably has to do with being bound to Syl. Since she is cousin to the windspren he might be able to read the flow of the wind because of the bond. This would help explain the arena with how he moves so fluidly while reading his opponents movements. He also seems to easily attract windspren just like Shallan easily attracts creationspren. Creations can represent fact or fiction. So the Cryptic could be cousin to creationspren with their truth and lies thinking. Aether mentioned actively directing the stormlight - Shallan did that too. She didn't do it to heal but she put some stormlight into Pattern as well as into the spheres in the lamps before activating the portal. I am finally done rambling after touching on many tangents. Feel free to point out all the flaws in my thinking so we can find solid theories... assuming you were able to survive my wall of text.
