I'd say read it through. I had a great time with the series even if I did get bored sometimes. My favorite character by far turned out to be Mat, so if nothing else, read/listen to it for him.

You have to have a Radiant activate the portal from both sides, kind of short,I know, but there really isn't much to elaborate on. If anyone else has any ideas, post a reply!
