  4. My AP art teacher finally got me pictures of some of my recent paintings!! A bigger piece that took me forever: (watercolor/colored pencil) My reference was a still life set up I put together myself, using fake flowers and a plaster bust my teacher had. A smaller one I did quickly for a local auction happening in the area, we'll see how it does: (watercolor/colored pencil): The reference for this one was a photo I took myself in the area where I live. The lighting is always very warm in the pictures he takes lol . . . the colors are all a bit brighter in real life. I do have some character doodles and sketchbook stuff I could show, but that'll have to wait till I get home from school.

  5. My dad: You're obviously depressed and are showing symptoms like being tired all the time, insomnia, really low energy, aching, and low appetite, and you have a really hard time waking up and getting up on time for school on 5 hours of sleep on average. So how can I help you with this? Me: I don't know maybe anti-depressants and an actual structured routine supported by my parents, which neither seem to be willing to help with? My dad: Nope, absolutely not. If you don't try harder and just do better, I'll just send you to a military school for six months! That's obviously the solution! Me: (-_-)

  6. I totally respect everybody's takes on this, but I'd like to share my opinion: It's possible that I'm extremely biased towards Adolin because he's my second favorite Cosmere character, but I honestly, genuinely, don't see him dying. It just doesn't make sense. His arc so far has been about figuring out how to live in his current situation, and support his family. Dying wouldn't complement that arc, in fact it would completely negate it. Not to mention if Adolin were to die, both Kaladin and Shallan would fall apart (maybe even Dalinar). Specifically Shallan. Killing Adolin off would probably mess up four books worth of character development so far for several characters, and would go against some of the books main messages. SA is about rising above the past and moving forward, making the future better for those who will come after you. It's about change as a society and the slow path to becoming a better people. If Adolin, a young highprince with the power and will to change things dies, Brandon can't use him to convey that central theme. Adolin is meant to be different from his father in that he learns from his fathers mistakes and tries to do better, so that his children can do even better. Killing him would make it hard to convey that idea, and that theme. He can't live on to be a better highprince then his father before if he's dead . Not to mention, with Kaladin, Adolin is a character that emphasizes different people from different backgrounds learning to work together. While not the only one, Adolin is one of the noble/lighteyes that Kaladin actually trusts, and learning to trust each other adds to that central theme. If Adolin were to just die, a lot of that faith in each other that could have otherwise been built up on would no longer have impact in the story. I couldn't disagree more, as stated above, killing Adolin would hurt character development for his friends, not help it. Kaladin and Shallan are both on thin ice when it comes to mental health, maybe being able to move past a death is something Kaladin needs to do eventually, but not right now. Right now, that kind of death would ruin him. He was able to move on from being suicidal in RoW, but that doesn't mean he's emotionally ready to watch one of his friends die, same with Shallan. If Wind and truth is going to cover the ten days to the final duel, and perhaps the aftermath, there is not enough time (imo) for Kaladin and Shallan to become stable enough to except a death that close to them. (EDIT: I also just realized killing Adolin might also mess up any healing Maya has had thus far as well, ruining the point of his bond with her in the first place) Sorry for the rant, I just think he's one of the least likely to die. (or maybe I just really, really don't want him to lol) Characters I could see dying: -DALINAR (my dudes he's gonna go, I really think he is) -Szeth -Jasnah -Shallan (a little less likely but still an option) -Moash (I'm imagining a Darth vader 'redeemed through death' situation) -Literally any of the Bridge four side characters whose names I don't remember--these would actually be handy to kill off, because the reader knows them and their history enough to care, but taking them out of the story doesn't really hurt anything. That's what I was thinking

  12. Yes. Yes, because there would be no Preservation or Ruin anymore. There are some pairs of Shards that are just hard to combine and would push against their Vessel like what Sazed is experiencing, but others would be easier to combine. Ultimately we have only Sazed as an example of merged Shards and this is just my understanding of what's going on. But the fact that before the Shattering there were no Shards, there was just Adonalsium and all investiture was of Adonalsium points into this conclusion that Sazed should be fully united one Shard, with one power. No Ruin and Preservation should exist if he were able to properly merge those Shards. They are particularly difficult to merge, they are the most polarized Shards there are right now, so it's not truly his fault that he can't fully combine them. He was faced with an impossible task and managed to do something that was never done before. But in my opinion he is only halfway there.

  13. Forts Board makes a good point and there is a question about how many side kicks. Moana has Pua and Heihei. Luke has R2 and C3PO. Harry has Hedwig and Buckbeak. Spin has a slug and a spaceship. Let me offer this other point in defense of 5th ideal (Stead). Brandon excels at world building. His works stands apart in the genre for the vibrancy and uniqueness of the ecology. Not since Tolkien, have the plants and animals been such a part of the story. I have this theory that there is an impending ecological catastrophe on Roshar. There are hints at this, Ashyn, visions, the very destructive nature of the storms. If the radiants journey ended back at connecting to the natural world it would be a pleasing convergence of themes.

  19. I also really hope that Dalinar in some way loses the contest and is made a Fused. Besides the fact that it would be really storming cool, I think this sets up an arc for Dalinar for books 6-10. I don't see him having any growth in those books without something major happening to him. Most of his emotional arc was fulfilled in OB, as well. In regards to what everyone is saying about Adolin... NO. More seriously, as @justice magician said above, Adolin dying would completely destroy Kaladin and Shallan's mental health. With this being the last book before the time jump, I just don't see there being enough room for either one to fulfill their arcs. In addition, Adolin is the only person in the entire Cosmere that has experience with healing deadeyes. He is integral to the entire storming planet at this point. As for who I think will die, it will be Renarin and Rlain. Taravangian is smart. He knows that Renarin and Rlain are able to mess with his fortunesight. With them gone, he'd be able to plan and he'd know the absolute best course of action. He'd even know what our main characters are most likely to do with those two gone. Finally, here's my list of characters I think will live/die. Szeth - Dead. Dalinar - worse than dead. Navani - Living. Kaladin - Fate Unknown. Adolin - Living. Shallan - Living. Renarin - Dead. Lift - Alive in hiding because I think that would be really cool to start book 6 with Lift in exile.

  20. Conversely, I really want that to happen. Dalinar leading TOdium's forces? Yes please. That's a way more interesting way for the books to go than any other outcome I can think of.

  23. This is definitely a matter of debate because we don't have any solid facts, but I was under the impression that it was Maya's link and connection to Adolin was what was healing her and making her conscious again (I believe someone once speculated it was like a backwards Nahel bond, but I don't fully remember). The prospect of Adolin's death did shock her into coming back more, but it's my opinion that his actual l death would really hurt her, if not make her fully dead eye again--because it was his connection with her that brought her back in the first place. That being said, I can honestly see it going either way, and I understand where you're coming from. Ah, I wasn't actually aware of this. Yeah . . . as much as I love him, it seems likely I honestly don't see the Contest of Champions 'going to plan,' so to speak. It's not going to be as simple as Dalinar Vs Odim's champion, with Dalinar winning. I'm sure both sides are going to find loopholes in the contract and exploit them to shift how the conflict actually works. Not to mention, I genuinely don't think Dalinar is strong enough to take down Odiums champion. Maybe I'm wrong, but he just doesn't seem powerful enough. Perhaps if he had more time to figure out his Bondsmith powers, but he only has ten days. I think it's likely that the contest will be interrupted, or the contract broken in some way--having it actually just happen and then work out is too predictable. That being said, this is entirely speculation so all of it is debatable. I mostly said Dalinar would probably die, because a lot of character arc has mostly already happened. He's realized his mistakes, and become a better person over the past few books. While he could definitely continue to get better and improve, his character is at a point thematically that if he were to die heroically it would be satisfying to the reader. (At least, that's how I see it ) I highly doubt Kaladin would die, seeing as his entire arc is about living on past bad things, and his character struggle (especially in RoW) has been avoiding suicide. It would be dissatisfying to the reader for him to die after finally coming to terms with living and moving on. I was under the impression the Flashback PoV's for Wind and Truth was going to be Szeth's backstory, but that could have just been a rumor? Or maybe your talking about Flashbacks PoV's in the second half of SA, then I would agree that that would be awkward if she's dead.

  26. Actually, Nalthis was planned fro AU1, but there was not a short story with which to pair it, and not enough time fro Brandon to craft a story for it before his deadline. It was left out and published separately on the website and in the Warbreaker Anniversary Leatherbound (but we are still waiting for Khriss' essay:)

The lyrics part isn't nearly as bad though, cuz I can words okay enough, but I don't think I have the confidence in my singing skills to actually sing the lyrics but oh well. It's still fun. Music is really cool.

  35. From the album: Stormlight artworks 2023-2024

I present to you my favorite men from Rhythm of War (from left to right): Dabbid, Teft, Kaladin and Rock! Bridge Four artwork in progress~ p.s. Syl is the best girl So, a little background: I promised to draw a big art piece every month, but February flew by unnoticed (let alone half of spring lol) and I had this sketch lying around for a long time, simply no move from a dead point. Today I decided to work on it and this is what it turned out so far! Dabbid turned out to be very difficult because he has no official reference other than the description in the book, but I imagined him as a sad-eyed, slightly intimidated, but attractive young man (younger than Kaladin). His backstory brought me to tears and his moments in ROW are simply wonderful With Teft and Lunamor everything is easier, thanks Brotherwise!! I plan to add other characters (except Renarin and Moash). I hope you enjoy it & hope to finish it by the end of the month

  36. That WOB says that that color is the relevant thing over molecular Structure for Gems in Rosharan magic specifically, and is another confirmation that draining the Color Does change the molecular structure (in that case Diamond/Ruby/etc to Quartz). He's said there and elsewhere that the issue is that several of the different Essences are all but chemically identical but that molecular structure isnt what matters To Essences. As far as just having Pure Gold that is grey, Nope, that's the whole point here: the WOB I posted is specifically saying the Spiritual Change from color does in fact alter the molecular structure and can be used in creative ways like charging batteries if the specific chemistry is favorable. Draining color from Gold will (apparently) force the material to transform into something else and leave you with a material other than Gold (or else Gold with a layer of something else, per Question #2), the question is more whether it becomes an alloy akin to White Gold or Electrum, some greyscale Oxide or salt Im not aware of, or will it become a greyscale element like Platinum meaning it's capable of driving an atomic-level change for alchemical-style transmutation. EDIT: I guess Electrum or Platinum would require at least some of the Gold to transmute to another element.

I think that you don't tap the nicrosil portion of a medallion, because it's a little alive and has its own identity, it connects itself to you and through that connection it grants you powers stored in nicrosil. 44. I have an idea. My dear Sharders, My dear Radiants and Allomancers, and my dear socks and bookies, and writers, and cyborgs, and snake monsters, and hobbits, and Fremen, artists, rangers, writers, and nerds. *Eddie stands up "Not Nerds!"* and nerds. Today is my third shardiversary: I am three years on the Shard today! I hope you are all doing well as much, or perhaps more than, I am. I shall not see you long. I have written this post to bring you all together for a Purpose. Indeed, for Three Purposes! First of all, to tell you that I am immensely fond of you all, and that three years is too short a time to live among such excellent and admirable sharders. I don't know half of you half as well as I should like; and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve. Secondly, to celebrate my shardiversary. I should say: OUR shardiversary. For it is a group effort. My time here has been one of joy and fun thanks to all of you. Together we are a community of great people. It is also, if I may be allowed to refer to ancient history, the anniversary of my second Shardiversary post; though the fact that it was my second shardiversary post slipped my memory on that occasion. I was bad at math then, and keeping track of time did not seem so important. Then I said "My third shardiversary and to more to come!" I now repeat it more correctly: thank you very much for collaborating with me on three years of the Shard! I wish to make an ANNOUNCEMENT I regret to announce that - though, as I said, three years is far too short a time to spend among you - this is the END. I am going. I am leaving NOW. GOOD-BYE! Okay, I'm not actually leaving. I don't think it's the right thing right now. It is 100% not the time to leave the Shard. I just really wanted to make that joke. Come on, you gotta admit it: that was funny. I joined the shard 3 years ago. Three years! can you imagine it? I was so much younger then... I hadn't even started MC role-play, I was a smol child, fresh with the opinion that I knew a lot about fantasy when I was and still am clueless. Ahhh, yes, those were the days... I can still remember exactly when I started. I was sitting in my breakfast nook, having just received my mom's permission to get an account. It was bright outside. Ahhh, to go back to that house with the old furniture and sit there while going onto the Shard. My life changed that day. I'd like to think that it was for the better. This community provided me with different perspectives. This community has helped me to realize a fundamental fact. "People think different than I do and that is entirely okay." I thank all of you so much for helping me to realize that and other things about the world and the people who populate it. All of you are wonderful people and I can't name everyone who means a lot to me. I love all of you so much (yes, even you). My PMs are open to anyone who needs to talk! Just know that I may ask that we wait for a little bit before talking because I'm an idiot who has terrible priorities. (Ie, watching strongbad instead of soldiering through Inheritance so I can read more Terry Pratchett and Brandon Mull). *raises jar of Root and slice of pumpkin pie* I have no idea how long I will be on the Shard, nor how long any of you will be, but this I do know. I lost the game. *Eats pie and downs Root*
